REVIEWS OF Clinton Street Theater IN Oregon

Alyssa Shelton

I love this place so much!! I wish they wouldn't shut it down. I have had such great memories with my family and friends.

Jon Pauletto

Caught the game of thrones season finale for free! It was awesome and they do have shows. Community feel.

Sasha Brown

Great place for movie.

Evan Trimble

Despite living in the neighborhood, I hardly ever go here. Their choice of films interests me only infrequently, and too often I'm booked for the week by the time I notice there's something I want to see. That said, it's a nice little theater, and I'm delighted it's in the neighborhood.

Conan Magnuson

Cool location. Uncomfortable seats.

Ross Hammer

Great indie theater that really cares about local community and social improvement. Longest running nonstop showing of Saturday night RHPS, too, which is pretty fun.

HACHETOOTH

Always an excellent time.

Kathryn Hoffberg

Super fun to watch rocky horror!

Monique Chambers

"The Amazing Bubble Man." He haa shows there a few times a year.

Joseph C Rossi

Classic grind house theater. Low quality has a lot of character. I love it . Big lebowski Christmas eve!

ella meyer

Pretty good

Rob Melton

This small, 222-seat theater is the oldest continuously running movie theater in America, and is famously known for its 39-year weekly showing of Rocky horror picture show at midnight every Saturday. It also hosts live events, which is what we attended. Great snack bar, clean, and well maintained. Take a look at the schedule on their web site to see the community-centered events, performance, and independent movies that make this one of Portland's hidden treasures.

Jordan Galle

Fantastic environment, and wonderful service. Their hosting of the Annual Guignol Film Festival is a feat in and of itself! And free movies every Monday? What's not to like? Check it out today!!!

Nathan Williams

One of the last true unapologetically independent theaters. Programming is wildly adventurous.

-h-serf -Vu

This place in kut yo. DJ Wicked's documentary was showed here.

Stasia Bliss - The Kundalini Queen

Great old theater, longest running shows. I saw the Bubble man here with my kids. Super old Portland sweet spot.

Brandon Michael Scarth

A VERY NICE place to go and watch a film with friends! Me and a friend of mine have spent a couple weeks viewing the films they have their, and they REALLY ARE pretty good!

Bella Haynie

A great Portland landmark. They do so many amazing showing of a wide variety of movie genres and stage performances. Of course they have one of the longest running Rocky shows in the country but their other projects and shows are great too. Nice concession options and comfortable chairs. Nice for a night out with friends or a date.

Tim Bledsoe

I love independent theaters

Adam Vargas

One of the best indieyrevival theaters in Portland. Always a treat every time I go.

Aaron Ross

Came to see the Monkey with a Hat On Mystery 10 Minute Play Festival and loved it! The theater is definitely retro and was great for a live performance. Concessions are reasonably priced so get a couple GRAPEFRUIT ciders and go to town. I cannot speak to the quality of the projector since I didn't see a movie.

Benjamin Yang

Great, eclectic films and live shows. A huge variety at the snack bar too!

Dennis Puetz

If you love old, very old neighborhood theaters, this is for you ... !!

Aaron Kelly

Awesome because it does Rocky Horror cabaret. Highly overrated otherwise.

Just Right

Best place for RHPS in the world.

Andria Garriott

Best Place To See The Rocky Horror Picture Show You Will All Fit Right In Literally They Make You Part Of The Show So Have Fun

Ariel Unfolding

Cool little theater that is so nostalgic and fun! Real butter on your popcorn. Wine, craft beers, sodas, etc. Love it, going back. Parking wasn't too bad.

Genifer Wallace

Was very entertaining. What a treat. Would have enjoyed more if the seats were a lil more comfy. Thanks.

Great independent theater. Sanely priced concessions, including pizza, beer and wine.

Jake Matnick

I went to Rocky Horror here and it was wonderful. The staff was extremely kind and helpful when a man tried to start a fight with me. A wonderful experience with wonderful people

Brian Lacy

Love this theatre

Jake Carroll

First time here and we got to watch Big Lebowski!!! Not much trouble finding parking nearby. Cool little historic theater. Seats are modern but not the newest plush seats. Still comfy enough to enjoy the movie. Average snack bar. One awesome thing I noticed is that they had a water cooler with cups available. Was able to grab a quick drink without shelling out $5 for a soda I didn't want. We got popcorn and candy as well.

N F

The second oldest theatre in Portland; simple & beautiful, you can feel the history as you sit. Unlike the chain cinemas, you watch good local adverts drift by on the screen before the feature starts. Donations given for free film Monday supports different local charities with a good list of classic flicks. Staff are really friendly, & prices for snacks are good.

J.R. McLain

Rocky Horror, local artist, plays, and more. This place is a community treasure!!!

m n

Nice, small. Local indie film

Mehmet Vurkaç

From the hilarious 10-minute-play festival to a variety of math and science talks, the Clinton Street Theater has been a venue for great community engagement for decades.

Rakashael O'Morgan

This was the first time I'd ever gone to see the live show for Rocky Horror. It was one hell of a good time, even though we were soaking wet from waiting in the rain. If you're a fan of Rocky Horror, or other cult classics, this is a great place to be.

Daniel Chambers

Oldest theater west of the Mississippi. Committed to local theater, music, and film.

Brenna Miaira Kutch

Great retro, independent cinema!! Come here for rocky horror or one of the many other showings or events

Summer Bailey

It's so wonderful there, feels like home all the time. Nice place for the out cast who feels or gets judged at other places, to go see a movie or something(especially the rocky horror picture show) ❤

Chris Stone

Rocky Horror every Sat... Love it.

paul norberg

It's a landmark theatre, that feels like you're at a movie theatre. Very different from the corporate brick and steel mall Cineplex

Loren Thompson

The staff here are such sweethearts, and the historic venue is beautiful in its own very quirky, unique, Portland sort of way. Rocky shows with the Cabaret are a blast too. I have never been to a show or screening here and had anything short of a great time. Plus, free/benefit retro flicks every Monday? Awesome!

Carmel Willis

Good show nice staff

Dave keckes-chartrey

Caught a great brass band here! And they still show Rocky Horror! What's not to like?

Ruth Lopez

Love everything

Reesey Campbell

A quirky little date night destination if I ever saw one! Love the history of the place, as well as their variety of entertainment. I went with friend to see The Big Lebowski just before the holidays. Would definitely recommend! Also, plan ahead to arrive early. There is limited street parking and typically not many tickets left at the window!

Mike Mathews

Attended the 48 hour Film Festival, a friend had entered and exhibited. Nice, casual place with a great selection of films. One of the oldest theaters in Portland, from 1915 (I think that's the year).

Tim Aguirre

Let's do the time warp again!!!!! This place was so much fun! The cast was a little inexperienced, but we had a blast!!!! Getting pulled on stage and sing and dance was too funny! Bring a group of friends and have a toast!!!

Karen D

Great Rocky Horror Picture Show experience! Comfortable seats.

Alood 511

We had a great experience at this theater. We saw the AMAZING Bubble Man. It was a lot of fun, intimate, and the perfect price for the five of us.

Prentiss-Jane Fabela

Definately worth attending rocky horror at least once here for some good but definately not clean fun.

denisse moreno

Beautiful Theater!

Rick Fletcher

Fun community theater with live shows and presentations such as Science Pun.

Lawrence Williams

Affordable ticket prices for quirky movies in a quirky theater.

Tony Watson

Quaint, nice to drink beer while watching a movie.

Edit name

Outstanding community-oriented cinema house.

jeff shannon

Best place for Rocky horror picture show

matt marino

Great spot

adam madaradam

Cool place

Eli Lynch

Worst RHPS ever. 2 hours late..and ridiculously bad..and not in that "good way", more like that "OMG please let me out", way. I've been going to RHPS since late 80's elsewhere. PDX can do better. BUT I do rec. Seeing other shows there and buying tickeys at the box office. The online set-up is a joke. If you like old independant theaters, try this one out.

Brandon Hampton

Saw Pigeon People perform an epic performance here!

Nik Dax

The atmosphere is perfect: divey yet clean, pushing the boundaries yet still a safe space, fun and friendly. They have cheap beer, cheap candy and cheap thrills! Clinton Street Theater is one of the few remaining institutions that absolutely oozes early 90s alternative culture with a heavy splat of 70s every Saturday night during the Rocky Horror Picture Show midnight viewing. The cast who put on RHPS are a riot and the emcee is dandy, even with the first-timers.

Jodi Huckaby

Old and cool! They have beer too!

Jadea H

Nice place I think more people should go.

Dan Kaufman

Portland's oldest continually operating theater playing world's longest run of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Michael Williams

Love this place! It's older and well loved. But, very clean. They show just about every genre of movies. But RHPS Saturday nights is still my favorite!!!

jason allen

This place is a Bedrock of Portland Community, history, activism and cultural enrichment. Thank God for the Clinton Street Theater!

Wyatt Freda-Cowie

Great atmosphere, and good food. A little dingy

Brian K

Uncomfortable seats, but otherwise great local theater with MANY events. Always a good location for something to see that's outside the mainstream vibe.

Jonathan Graham

We came here to show my wife the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Not only her first time seeing the movie, but we ended up on the night where people come in dress us, and act it out too. It was a little much for her for the first time to follow the movie, but she had a good time.

We Like Women Pride Army

Beautiful women at the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Vince Alarid

Love this place

Heidi B

fun run down theatre. love it!

Raymond Lusk

Small independent theater showing interesting content.

theresa mitchell

Love the sheer vintage quirk, the posters, the beer...supports KBOO...my favorite!

Jackson Flowers

Saw rocky horror there and loved it! So energetic and fun, defitnly go when they have the shadow cast it's absolutely worth it.

David Johnk

There is nothing like this place in all of Portland. It's the last haven for real fun.

i g h t

Most fun and energetic atmosphere you'll ever have with the rocky horror picture show night!!

ssqtch O'Harris

Great whole experience how movies should be watched

ira castaneda

This place is a Portland institution. The biggest underground theater in town. This place should not be. If urban planning had its way, this would be an underpass for the Mt. Hood freeway. Most Portlanders dont know this but if it hadnt been for a local non profit, this historic property and all the surrounding buildings would have been leveled for a freeway. Come and enjoy a show here and show your support for small business and the Portland way.

Brad Michael

The oldest operating theater on the west coast! Don't miss the donation-only Monday night series, with a great selection of charitable causes and fun flicks. Wayne's World was twice as fun with a theater full of fans laughing and singing along!

Michael Wilson

Movie house with social conscious.

Yao Taipei

Old style theater. Not very fancy but looks historic.

Kayla Marie

A solid theater with a decent drink selection and intriguing events and shows. I've gon to a few science lectures here and have enjoyed the ambiance each time.

Rachel Leavell

It was great! Rocky Horror was so much fun!!

Paulina Bartnik

Went to Clinton street theatre to see documentary film called Tomorrow, it was great, a film on climate change on solutions. They said Clinton theatre will be closed and people need to donate and support it to keep it open. I donated and I hope you will too. It educates the public like no other theatre in Portland. -Harmony & Dulce

bethanne bane

Great performance with Rocky Horror Picture Show. Nice theater.

Ness

This place has a lot of potential. I enjoyed it, you could feel the history in the over 100 year old theater, which wasnt always a good thing. We had a packed theater on a hot summer day and the heat was nearly unbearable at least one of our party had to leave because it was too warm to keep breathing. Made the movie experience difficult to get through. I'd like to go back but I'll probably wait until cooler times of the year.

Keith Koenig

Always a great time at the Clinton Street Theater. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is always a blast!

Lonnie Rewa

Great old theater venue. Nice snack bar. Comfortable seats. Fun venue.

Garett Chong

Small historic cozy theater. Expensive snacks.

Andrew Jones

Resistance cinema series puts on free movie mondays

Bruce Reiter

Nice thearter with great popcorn!

Douglas Delsoldato

Bubble Man was fantastic !!!

Dacoda Nelson

Great place to catch the Rocky Horror Picture Show performed live with a regularly changing but always skilled and enthusiastic cast on stage and the film itself playing on the screen. It's a trip and a laugh riot. A word of warning, if you've never been, get into the spirit of things and just enjoy the atmosphere; it's not supposed to make sense. You'll have no idea what's going on in the actual film, but that's half the fun anyways.

Linda Strange

Omg rocky horror picture show u got to go see it

Wendy Wood

Great show and generous owner to make the space available during holidays.

Mz. UnDerstood

Showed up a night early for the Rocky horror picture show. Was really bummed we weren't able to see the show but Austin in the front was very understanding and totally awesome. I will be returning for the show because of the pure awesomeness of the theatre and staff. Can't wait to see the show.

Linda Beasley-Freeman

A fun, cozy atmosphere...attended a storytelling session. Loved it!

Pops1122

We came here for the first time for the Rocky Horror Picture show! It was OK. My buzz wore off after the first 10 minutes since drinks weren't allowed in the theater. (The bar heading into it was cool and had great drinks... that place gets 5 stars) There are definitely some interesting moments. I laughed, I chuckled and then I just got annoyed by all the antics... then I remembered, this is what it's all about! Rocky Horror indie vibe! Maybe I'll go back on a night where they allow cocktails...

Jeremy Mueller

This is one of the oldest operating theatres in the United States. Offering many indie movies that you can't see elsewhere.

Hunter Bronson

Best place to see Rocky Horror!!

Derianna Mooney

I love small woman owned businesses who explore topics of interest in an eclectic community for the enjoyment and education of all who come.

eli gallegos

Family-friendly great place to watch a movie have a beer. Loads of free events always a fun time #datenight #portland

Jessica Thiessen

You want original, out of the box, thought provoking entertainment? THIS IS THE PLACE. I especially adore the Monkey With A Hat On productions - all original theatre locally written, cast, and produced!

Daniel Quasar

Small and beautiful. This little theater is a fixture in SE Portland and deserves more business. They feature theater based work, movies, and film festivals. My friend recently premiered his film there and many others have held festivals and plays. Please give this place a chance for a place to stop, or your next event.

Wed to Wanderlust

Enjoyed the Guinol Movie Fest!

Steven Williams

Community theater, accessable, fun.

David W

Absolutely loved this place when the family went here for the bubble man show! Fun family friendly atmosphere and reasonably priced concession stand that didn't try to gouge us for popcorn and drinks (they have beer :) Excited to be going again soon.

James Brown

Saw FIX- The Ministry Movie tonight. Outstanding show! Director, producer, and Paul Barker from Ministry were there. The movie plays for a week here before it busts out big time. Check it out before everyone else does, and you can say you saw it first. Very worth the watch!

Frankie B

Funky old timey theater with a super bohemian and activist vibe

Elouan Cade

nice space, lovely staff, kind of a surprising amount of leg room?? good stuff

Andy Morrow

Awesome venue with a great staff. Fun shows all year round.

Natalie kammerer

This theater is so much fun! It's the place to see retro films or local film festivals. Enthusiastic film buff staff is very friendly. Concessions are basic and a bit hard to access as they're sandwiched in a hallway. There are plenty of bars and eateries within walking distance. Parking on the street can be a challenge, so arrive well before show time. It's always a blast to visit this Portland icon!

James Lycan

Had a great time small theater but comfier seats.

Auddy Groom

This is a fun experience for the most part. I looooove the rocky horror picture show movie. We came in for the show to celebrate a friends birthday. The games in the beginning are hilarious and the cast and staff are so creative. However, we left shortly after the time warp. My boyfriend and I couldn't handle the screaming. It was constant. I wish there would've been a tad bit less and I couldve enjoyed it more. If it had just been the cast acting it out and a few random obnoxious jokes/comments I wouldve been fine. I also didnt like that they had us watch some political videos before the actual movie. Popcorn tasted amazing though and the cast was great.

Kenneth d Estes jr

Was great

Jonathan Hoffman

Funky cool old theatre right in the middle of hipster SE Portland! Great movie experience with a White Russian

Aaron Warren

Watched a 10 minute play fest. Really fun.

Merrily Haas

They host a variety of shows. Ticket prices vary but sometimes go to a non-profit.

Tony Arsan

Charming old theater with a stage. Warning to the wider folks, seats are pretty snug

Eric

One of the oldest cinemas this side of the Mississippi. Amazing Staff and management. Good selection of non typical cinema movie snacks. Although I should point out after my last visit it looks as if the projector bulb needs to be replaced.

Joseph Augustyn

This place is pretty awesome! Old posters on the wall are always good to reminisce.

annamaria singer

Fun place old timey

Tami Stover

Amazing. Go!!

McLayer

Went to see a few live gigs there. Great atmosphere

Emily Mcgee star

Wonderful thought provoking shows. with live music by local musicians. A Must visit place

Chip Larouche

Quaint but cute.

Ivonne Rivero

This is a community non-profit.The kind of place where you use an honor system to get in., really Portland-style. Use it often. You can contribute to their presence in the community by using the place, giving a few extra dollars for your tickets and getting your popcorn and drinks here. You can also rent the place for birthdays, parties, political events.

Christopher Tallmadge

Rocky horror picture show! Actually, it was the storytellers guilde! Lots of fun!

Robert Heydenreich

Great event. Pete Seeger celebration on what would have been his 100th birthday. Sponsored be Columbia Riverwatch.

Victoria Taylor

Went to see the rocky horror picture show last night, it was god awful. The games were really fun and the opening, but once the show started it was a disaster. It looked like they had never done it before never rehearsed and just asked some fans to try it out off the bat. Every time they had scripted lines they said it all at different times so you had no idea what anyone was saying. Through the show the actors were constantly yelling jokes, but it wasnt planned and it was all at once as if be the loudest and youll be heard was the motto. I felt like I was watching a middle school play the whole time would never ever recommend going to see the rocky horror picture show at this theatre.

Richard Garcia

Awesome time. Great atmosphere.. cool employees.

joe feuerborn

An essential place in Portland. Plays great movies and has a great feel.

E Parnon

Fun place to go for shows

Andy Idsinga

I love this place. went to their annual showing of The Big Lebowski on Christmas day.

This is a really great theater for the most part. Great environment and employees buy the front area is really cramped and I only saw one bathroom with a huge line. Had a great time here though

Jaimie Tisdel

This was my first show at the Clinton Street Theater and the employees were amazing. I will definitely be returning and recommending shows here to my friends and family.
