This Movie Theater is classified in the category of Live music venue.
Warm cozy atmosphere. Great acoustics. Comfy seats.
what a magical place, with an even more magical history...
I went to a Science on Tap event. It was a delightful evening out. Intellectually stimulating and satisfying. Neuroscience of Music. I don't drink, so that portion of the experience, was not for me. We found close, on street parking and it wasn't raining to hard, so that was great. The speaker was engaging. The visuals were interesting and the music was fun.
A fine venue to see live shows. Intimate. Charming. Not a bad seat in the house... On the topic of seats... They are... Not comfortable. As a person who has knee issues, the seat situation is a little rusty. Close rows. Narrow. Poor cushioning. Usually end up aiming for seats in the balcony.
Such a fun little theater! They have incredible live performances curated by a genius with a true love of the unique. The annual shows by Storm Large are one of my favorites. The chairs are older and still comfortable. It really helps that the aisles are wide with plenty of leg room. Meat or lentil pies are a delicious snack to go along with a brilliant selection of beer, wine, and cider. Take a chance with an act you're unfamiliar with and have a great night!
It's a great place to see live music.
Saw the Amazing Acrocats and the show was hilarious and super cute. The staff was fantastic and very helpful. The Very Important Cat People meet and greet after the show was fun too.
I like the size and feel, but the sound system is dated.
I wish the seats here are more comfortable. if you are above a size 12, I'd say you are going to have a hard time finding a seat roomy enough. I love the charm of the place but it's not a good venue for larger folks.
I hadn't been to the Aladdin in years. Right off the bat, the gal working the door was SUPER nice! And the rest of my experience there was consistent with that. Both bartenders were super friendly. Everyone there was super cool, the bar had been modified and was now wide open, and there was an outside seating area. The whole night was perfect for seeing one of my favorite bands in a really nice venue with super nice people. Fantastic experience.
The Aladdin theater is a great venue with a dance floor in front of the stage, plenty of seating and even a balcony for a great view of the show.
What a fun venue! Or was it fun because JJGrey was playing..either or, it was a night to remember! Food is great...drinks are too!! Dress light, as it gets pretty warm inside! The upper deck was even more stuffy...
Great happy hour
When you want to see a live show but you're too old to stand for 3 hours straight
Pretty good sound quality and good acts come through here. Took off a couple stars because most of the venue is seated. Prefer open venues for dancing.
Art Garfunkel. Amazing.
People are great! They show tons of love for my people with the can situation. The place is bigger then I thought and was very pleasant show.
OUTSTANDING PLACE GREAT PLACE GREAT PEOPLE WHO RUN IT
Cool Place, good view from most seats. It's a small theater at 600 so your pretty close anywhere. Restrooms are only upstairs so FYI. For events the basics exist such as pizza and snacks along with a beer or two and wine.
This is actually a pretty cool place. It kind of looks like a hole in the wall because outside is littered and trashy looking (maybe the whole neighborhood is like that I don't know, I live on the west side) but then you go inside and it's very nice. Old school I suppose but very comfortable. There's built in seating too, which I suppose all theaters might have but there is a spot in front where you're allowed to stand, maybe 50-75 people could comfortably fill in the space.
Classy and comfortable, but prepare to parallel park 10 blocks away in front of someone’s house.
There's not a bad seat in this theater!
Great size for a show, not to crazy, snack and beverages available.
Such a great small venue. Have seen many shows here. One very weird thing is there's staff guarding the one main level restroom and will not let anyone pass unless "handicapped". Not a single person used the restroom that night.
Nice little venue. For someone into rock shows, I wouldn't typically come here, but last year, Sleeping With Sirens played an acoustic show here, so of course I came to this. The Aladdin Theater is a seated venue. At the SWS concert, they had a small standing area. Gets packed easily. I don't know if that area is normally standing, but it was for that. The sound system was excellent. It's a very cozy, roomy atmosphere, and felt very intimate, especially as this was an acoustic show. All in all, would come here again if I'm feeling something softer.
What a great venue for live music shows. Saw Ramble-On & Baracuda. Great time.
Good sound, lighting and stage. Now all you need are ppl who know how to exit properly from a venue. Heres a hint: hang out AWAY FROM THE DOORS.
I love The Aladdin. Wonderful old theater with gorgeous architecture and a very lived in feel. The attached bar (The Lamp) is a great place for a burger, fallafel, or hummus plate before the show and a cocktail or beer after. My only complaint is that, given most of the seats are bolted in, there's not a whole lot of standing room for musical acts. Your either sitting (I recommend the awesome balcony) or you're in the pit. But hey, if you've got a great crowd, the pit is the place to be.
Watched Kill Tony here and the venue was amazing and the staff was top notch.
Great place to see lesser-known act or an act that you remember from a long time ago
Great music venu, love Junior Brown
Great little venue that's connected to the Gas Lamp bar. Also serves beer and wine in the theater section of the building. Has one set of men's and women's bathroom in the balcony level. On and off street parking, including the US Bank across the street if after hours.
This theater is so beautiful! Seats were a little tight for this plus sized gal, but I blame burritos not the theater.
Its venerable age and small size made the concert we attended more like a neighborhood gathering than a mega-event. You won't find Vegas headliners here; rather a continuous stream of musicians eager to please. The place is short on luxury, but long on enthusiasm and appreciative audiences.
I really like the venue. The last artist I saw there was Paul Gilbert. It's big enough to hold a decent sized audience, but not so large that being at the back of the theater requires binoculars. The acoustics are good and every act I've seen there has had good levels. If someone I like is playing there, I will never second guess whether I should go. Finally, there is no assigned seating, so count in getting there a little early to stand in line for a bit.
Awesome snowboarding video Road Less was the best this is the coolest
Nice old theater ambiances, Bar next door to theater is good.
Older style theater with good food and overall charm. The crew are great too !
Been here a few times for different events. There is plenty of seating and it is easy to see the stage. Everything sounds great within the theater. Only down side is that it can get a bit warm if it is a packed house, and the snacks are a bit overpriced.
Quaint venue. Interact with the performers! Choose your own seats!!
Clean, users do a great job during shows.
Bruh Together pangea was playing, I got in the mosh pit. The while thing was amazing
Great, intimate venue with friendly bartenders
Good acoustics, painful seats. Go when a band will keep you on your feet.
The seats are antique and very narrow. I am not thin but I am not big either. If there had not been folding chairs in the front I would not have been able to sit for the show. The seats are that narrow. I saw numerous people with the same issues. Some people didn't have enough leg room in the standard seats. The staff were great. The place was clean. The lights were well handled. Over all a good experience, but something needs to be done with the seating.
Nice old-time theater. Parking is a pain so get there early. Would attend events there anytime.
Great music venue. Loved the size as it felt more intimate and the sound here was great. Would definitely come back to see another show here. The only downfall is that, if you really enjoy being in the pit, there really isn't a lot of room to stand - but the seating still has great views.
I enjoy the Aladdin! The staff are sharp, watching over the visitors but they all seem friendly and aproachable with smiles. There is a bar with food and beverages and you can bring drinks into the show area. You can sit in seats or stand at the front. The show I was at recently was sold out but I didn't feel like we were stuffed in like sardines. It was busy/full, but not oppressive. I also felt like I could see from all the vantage points. Nice job Aladdin!
Great accoustics and the bands were giving everything to make Music Millennium's 50 years Anniversary as special as it deserved!
Great sound system for live music. The view of the stage was amazing. I will be coming back to this venue for other events.
Went there last night to see the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Great sound. We sat up in the balcony and had bird's eye view of the stage. Show sold out in like 3 days so get your tickets early if you wanna see something there. Staff was friendly and overall a great experience. Would definitely return there again.
Nice. Intimate. Divey in a good way. I'd sit up top next time; seemed less cramped.
Even the folding chairs are comfy :-) Great concert, underattended and intimate. Coffee at the snack bar is good and free refills. Alcoholic drinks are pretty steep, though. Sound system is excellent. Parking is challenging.
Aaron Watson was great like always. But the theater it self is small and out dated..
I love this theater I went to see a Aerosmith & Def Leopard cover band. I danced and sang all night! The bar there is fun too. I found the tickets online 2 hours before the show they were super affordable and a great spontaneous thing to do on a Saturday night.
Cool Theatre just weird that there are seats. Cool venue, good drinks!
Great theater. Every year we go watch the trailband
Lovely place to see a show. My favorite seats are the front-center of the balcony. But everywhere is good.
Historically fantastic! Place is groovy!
Funky and intimate venue for entertainment has survived the test of time.
Had a blast for the concert...but the seats are old and my butt hurt after two hours sitting there... other than that it is a great old place.
Small music venue that hosts many musical acts(current and past). Always a great time coming here. Very relaxed atmosphere! If you don't like crowds, their seating capacity is roughly 600!
Fun. Old school theater. Having a bar to get drinks before the show was great. Seats could use some updating. When someone had to get up and leave the aisle. Everyone had to move. There is not enough leg room to get by.
Fun place to see a show. Intimate theater. The seats are as roomy as economy on Jet Blue and as comfortable as a board. So, get to know your neighbor.
Located in the Brooklyn neighborhood of southeast Portland, the theater was originally opened in 1927 as a vaudeville house. Its name was changed to Aladdin in 1934. In the 90s it became a classic movie and live music venue. Place has quite an interesting history (google it). Recently visited it to see a concert. There’s a standing room only section down front but it’s mostly seating with a capacity of a little over 600.
Unquestionably the best music venue in PDX simply by the measure of the artists that perform here. The acoustics are surprisingly good for an old movie theater. I've been going to concerts here for 25+years, and in all that time very little has changed. I would suggest they consider replacing the seats, which appear to date from the original 1927 opening.
Cool spot, thanks for a good show!
Nice little venue in a city with a lot of nice little venues. The Lamp that’s attached has some good food and is a nice place to chill before a show.
Very fun venue, great munchies but the seats! Horrible, so uncomfortable!
A great venue for an up close feel. Lunch and dinner menus.
Fantastic intimate venue with good food and drink and friendly staff to boost your enjoyment of shows.
Good theater, reasonable alcohol price
Another year at the Aladdin with The Oregon Trail Band Christmas music extravaganza. This is a wonderful small venue for varied entertainment.
The sound is always incredible. I love going to shows at Aladdin. Even after all these years, it's still one of the best places in town to see a live show.
Pretty nice place with re entry. Beer isnt too expensive either. Sound quality is ok but besides that, it was a cool place
Seen a few shows here and always a good time. Good venue, nice and chill and have a bar next door, or small menu inside the theater. Pretty awesome spot!
Randy Hansen Awesome Janis Lives grooveee
Saw Paul Gilbert On the “Behold Guitar Tour” and our family had an excellent experience! Paul decided to not sell posters for this show but the venue had some printed up. The staff heard me talking to the merch guys and grabbed the poster out of the window then got Paul to sign it for me! We came in all the way from Spokane WA for the event and will definitely be looking forward to attending future events!
The venue is more intimate and has a great atmosphere. There are seats available if you would like to use them and during the concert I attended a medium size standing area near the stage. I believe there is a bar/restaurant as well. Employees are friendly and accommodating. The prices for at least some of the concessions are reasonably priced. I went to a concert about 3 weeks ago with my brother and his wife and we all had a great time. It was actually their first concert and the size of the venue was perfect for them and I. Definitely recommend.
Thanks for hosting Janis Lives! Fabulous theater!
Great venue for intimate concerts. Not a bad seat in this renovated movie theater. They bri g in a lot of acts that couldn't fill an arena. Feel very close to the performer.
I just saw Avi Kaplan at the Aladdin Theater and it was amazing. The staff was very polite and helpful and it's a beautiful venue. Because you could stand up front I got to see Avi up close and it was a very memorable night that I won't forget.
Sound was mixed a little poorly, but great overall venue full on consessions, and comfortable seating
This is an old theater but I felt right at home. The staff are amazing and so was the concert! Seats need to be updated to something comfortable. I will recommend this place to everyone!
The show was great. Staff were polite. Place was clean.
Great place good sound and nice people
This venue is great for folks like myself who are tired of standing for hours at shows. Plenty of seating, but there is usually standing room available in the front for folks who want to dance. The sound here is always incredible and I never regret going to shows here.
Took the kids to see ACDC cover band "Shoot to Thrill" here. It was their first rock show and we all had a blast! We snagged decent seats but stood up by the stage the whole time. It was actually a really kid-friendly environment imo and there were other people with kids there. The venue was nice, they handed out free earplugs, and the other patrons were really nice and let the kids stand right up in the front against the stage. The band also handed out picks and drumsticks to the kids after the show. What a group of stand-up guys! Also, gotta mention the music was really freakin good. And the snacks and drinks were very reasonably priced (as well as the tickets). I will definitely be going to more live shows here in the future.
This is a nice little theater. They have older smaller seats that aren't incredibly comfortable. Good accustics and good menu and bar. Not a lot of places to wait for a show.
It was a great show and the people there were very nice and helpful. Thanks!
Darlingside and River Whyless were incredible 7 ⭐ if I could. The review loses a star because Aladdin does not know how to use the lighting system. It distracted from the music.
Great music!! Dancing!! And Drinks!!
Awsome! Saw Ari Shaffir...hella funny
Great neighborhood venue
Great shows... beautiful theater. Surprisingly comfy seats!
Great venue space! Saw Golden Girls live there!
A classic portland venue, still hosting great shows after all these years! Pros: no bad seats, great lineup of musicians, good sound, friendly staff. Cons: long lines (especially for bathrooms), seats have that vintage (read: uncomfortable) feel to them. If a band you like is playing here, don’t miss it!
I've been here for 2 shows! The most recent one was for the lovely wild child. Such a unique venue. If you like concerts that you can sit down at this is the place for you, they also sell food, snacks, and drinks here during each show and are chill about it. Both experiences here have been great, and I will be definitely going back for future shows. Orginally was a vaudeville theatre, very cool history to look into for the place.
Great place to see a comedian! ~600 capacity means you can actually see the people on stage and their expressions! Love it!
Neat vintage venue. Balcony seating and floor seating with plenty of standing room in front of the stage. They have snacks, pizza slices, beer and wine, but also is the attached Lamp bar. The lamp has an okay limited menu and full bar. There's access to walk between both places without going outside and you can leave a tab open at The Lamp, so you can continue with drinks through the show. Had a great time seeing Freddie Ballard.
Enjoying the comic of Maz Jabrani and Tehran. Two great Persian comedians.
Lines are long based on shows. Maybe true heading there sooner
Great, intimate atmosphere. My family enjoys it.
Sound was awful as always....
Such a great theater, they have some really cool events!
One of my favorite venues. Intimate and with good acoustics. Seats can be a bit uncomfortable though.
Sounds good, stumptown coffee is yummy
Venue was great, employees were nice. Parking wasn't great. Uber of Lyft next time
Great sound every show.
It is historic. Avoid sitting in the balcony. It is always like an oven up there.
Cool old theatre. Great sound.
Cool old theater. Fun venue. I hope to catch another show there soon.
Sat in the back row and still had a great view. Acoustics were great. I'm a bit guy and didn't feel cramped by the seats.
Great venue for a rock show very well ran.
A great venue for live entertainment
Not a great venue for live music, will likely not be back despite the fact that it's in walking distance
Always love this venue! The Lamp is next door for good drinks and food. The sound system is incredible! Every show I've been to I've had a blast! Staff is GREAT!
Wonderful venue to enjoy an intimate concert. Saw JJ Grey in a one man show. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. The only down side was the concessions line was a bit confusing. Received conflicting information from two people working there on where to que up. One told me to stand just inside the auditorium door and pointed at the spot I should stand. Then a moment later the other person came by and berated me for standing where I was just told to stand. The first thing the second person said to me was, "I told you not to stand there" and made me move about a foot and a half. I guess it's true, power corrupts.
Such a great place to see a show. So many good memories here.
Great small venue.
Very cool venue!
Love the shows here. Always a standard for great shows. Here you will find a laid back mood and great service..
Great venue. No bad seats and great acts.
The shows are great and the atmosphere is post-modern-meets-super nostalgic with a great wine and beer selection.
Beautiful venue in south Portland. Good food, great bar. The room and stage are a bit boomy, but they tell me a packed house of 600 will mellow out the reverberations. I recommend the Gin 45 cocktail; make sure to bring 599 friends for optimal enjoyment
Saw comedian Kathleen Madigan. Great show. The theater is small and old but it was comfortable and the staff was really helpful.
Love the design and charm of this theater. We enjoyed dinner at The Lamp beforehand and took our drinks to our seats. I did not see any cup holders though, which made standing up and down for people to be sat kind of difficult. Small annoyance. The sound for the show was amazing and I was impressed with how well it was done.
Great space with good acoustics. It's small enough that you can see the performer clearly even from the back of the house. At my show, the middle section seemed to stand (and sing along loudly) but the side sections seemed to stay seated, and it was was easy to see over the people in the front of me . In the back sitting beneath the balcony overhang seemed to help muffle the singalong - if that happens to annoy you as much as it does me. The seats were still comfortable after over two hours as well.
Really awesome venue in an old theater! They always have great shows and attract a lot of good talent. Really chill atmosphere with a bar connected in the front. This is a great place to go even if you are just being a chaperone!
Wonderful venue for seeing live music.
We saw Fiji at the Aladdin, older building and a bit smaller than the Roseland but the location never matters when Fiji comes to town, Vinaka vakalevu tavale!!
Great show, relatively comfortable seats, can't take non-alcoholic beverages out of the building
Great place for live shows l!
I Always have a great time at the Aladdin. 15 of us went and saw Randy Hansen. He did an amazing job!! It can get loud!!!! Might want earplugs
Old school theater with limited seats = great, intimate concert! We heard Avi Kaplan here and really enjoyed it. The sound system was a bit loud for the openers, but the bass for Avi was intensely awesome. Drinks from the connected bar, the lamp, can be brought in to the theater. For standard beer and wine, the theater staff had three stations set up which moved the line along nicely. Only downside - this is an old school theater with smaller wooden seats. Next time I'm bringing a blanket to sit on.
I would quantify this place as a hole in the wall theater but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I saw Maz Jobrani and it was intimate and cool. The seats were alright, springy. Not a bad venue, a little off the beaten path.
Absolutely adored this place. There were definitely faults, but not worth docking any stars. The chairs are old and I had a spring against my butt all night, they are rather close together so hopefully you're okay with getting to know your neighbor. The wife and I went to see Ezra Furman and Pancho Morris. I'd never heard of Pancho Morris before, but I'm looking forward to his next album. He's amazing. As for the main event, Ezra is a life changing experience, and this place only added to it. His passion through his singing when solo, and band complimenting him only benefitted from being so close to everyone around you. It felt more intimate than any other show I've been to. When I first got inside and my elephant was stamped on to me, I was a bit skeptical as to why such an incredible person like Ezra would choose a place that almost looked rundown. Don't make the same mistake I did. This place has a certain air to it. Just trust it and enjoy your experience. You'll be glad you're coming here. Cheap seats, the nicest staff, and definitely the best bands/artists. You should come here, and you should start listening to Ezra Furman. I'm not good enough with words to describe the sensation being in this place gives you, nor a good enough detective to tell you why it happens. Just come here, and I know you'll get it. It's friendly, welcoming, cheap, historic, and it has a lot of personality. Just do yourself a favor. Support your local indie artists.
Simple theater with narrow seats, but great sound, aesthetics and great staff make it truly enjoyable.
Great old venue with good acoustics. Junior Brown was terrific.
Ari Shaffir showed out in his late show! It was epic!
Great venue. I've only seen mellow shows there and it was perfect for them. The sound is great, imho. I'll go back soon, I'm sure.
We went to see Avi. Lovely historic theater! The staff is friendly and helpful. If you get a chance to go here... Do!
Did not have a very enjoyable first time here. We ran into a few very rude employees. One of which we ended up leaving after interacting with her. The level of professionalism was slim to none. I tried to reach out after the incident and never got response. We most likely will not be returning. Such a shame.
Went here for Burger week 2019. Nice place, decent Burger.
Intimate venue!
The venue had great sound, but uncomfortable seating. Nice bar though.
Great venue fantastic acoustics
Staff great, accommodating. Savory pies are worth walking in for. Music satisfied and kept is there. Wished for ventilation, hot and stinky at end, dress light
Complaining about anything that happens here at the Alddin Theater is like complaining about your grandmother not knowing how to cook. Great times great venue✊
An old-Portland institution. The theater itself is a little rough around the edges but the staff are great and they have good beers. The little bar next door has surprisingly good food and great staff to put up with the pre show crush every day!
Excellent venue, you can leave at intermission.
Great venue, but security is way too intense and puts a damper on the mood. They should become cops instead of doing security for shows
Love the onsite bar with fabulous food (try the falafel fries) and incredible ciders on tap. Great to enjoy a venue with seating and quality drinks at normal bar prices
Great place to enjoy music and shows. Tickets are usually reasonable. Looking forward to going back. The Lamp is a good place to have a snack before the show and then you can get a wrist band to let you take a short line.
A good music venue with a lot of history and charm. But those seats... While the backs are surprisingly comfortable the width of the seats leaves much to be desired and this comes from a thin man with no hips.
Good venue for getting close to the stage.
The place reminded me stepping back in time with its original seats and decor.its a great place to see concerts.staff was very freindly and helpful.
Great time great place great food next door don't drink but there's a lot of different alcohols to choose from their kind courteous Festival seating in the bands are really good
