Great old theatre! Super bonus points for free coffee refills, the coffee was pretty good as well. Good seating and sound. The staff was super nice and were accommodating when I asked for an unhealthy amount of butter on my popcorn, which was local, from Shagbark. The bathroom and theatre were clean, as were the lobby and hallways. Also bonus points for some of the seating having fold away tiny desks. Great experience and I look forward to returning.

Quaint little college town cinema that plays movies that you may find "off the beaten path". Student loyalty card thing gets you a free movie for every 6 you purchase.

My 22nd time here this evening. How is it that I haven't written a review until now? Well, the Athena Cinema is a fantastic, historic, art theater in Uptown Athens. $7 for a standard adult ticket, snacks and drinks are reasonable priced. Definitely check it out.

Good local movie theatre uptown Athens with a variety of independent, smaller market movies. Always a place to sit and never sold out. Tuesdays are discount nights. Also have holiday movie specials for the families

This is a great place for catching indie films that don't often make it to the regular cinemas. Ticket prices are cheap and they serve local, organic popcorn at the counter. Highly recommended!

Historic movie theater in downtown (or uptown if you're a local) Athens. Shockingly inexpensive, Shagbark popcorn in the machine, and kept clean. There are typically 2-3, non-blockbuster, movies on the schedule. They also regularly have special features in collaboration with various Ohio University programs (e.g., the sustainability theme). The staff are friendly and often have good tips on upcoming movies. Certainly worth your visit.

Along with their very cheap show tickets, their offerings of movies are also very good. They show varieties of genres from classic to art films to documentaries. Nice for a weeknight relaxation.

i’ve went here 3 times since i came to ohio university. it’s really a nice place to check out if you visit. theatre is a little cold so i would suggest bringing a jacket. prices are good especially as a student but as well for drinks and snacks. i’ve enjoyed everything i’ve seen here !

Love this theater! They show movies we'd otherwise have to drive to Columbus to see. The staff are great. The prices are reasonable. The building is a wonderful Art Deco survival. The whole experience compares favorably with other art house theaters we've been to in other locations.

Old school cinema in Uptown Athens. Seating isnt especially comfy, but the atmosphere, movie choices, and location are worth it.

Almost always are treat to go to this theater. It used to be one screen, but they renovated about 2004 and put in side-by-side theaters downstairs and a single, fairly shallow room upstairs. If you're used to sitting back from the screen, re-evaluate that in all of these 3 theaters because the screens are unconventionally smaller and further away. Sit closer. Popcorn is a deal here, but if you ask for butter don't let them go crazy on it or they might put on so much it leaks onto your pants! Fun place.

This cinema looks small on the outside but when you go inside they have nice big theatres and it's very nice. They often play movies you wouldn't normally see in big theatres but also will play some of the new mainstream movies. It is pretty clean. They have all the snacks you need and the staff is usually friendly. It is a cinema that focuses more on cinema nouveau and golden oldies than mainstream movies, but it is such a gem and I love taking myself to the movies at this cinema.
