The movie screen is great but small the sound is ok, not like newer theaters. The chairs are awful. If you have back problems be warned. It's really old and not nice. All the ceiling tiles had water stains I just cringed at the thought of mold. Plus it's still $10 to get in, just drive 25 minutes to Shelby or somewhere nicer for the price. The seats aren't even side by side there's huge gaps where they're not put together right. It was the only place still playing Peter Rabbit but we won't make that compromise again not worth it.

We went to the 9:45 showing of Spider-Man. At around midnight, before we got to see the end credits scene, the whole theatre went dark. Someone could have been hurt! Looked like an automatic thing because there were no employees left. We had to use our phones to see out. (It wasn’t a power outage, the games and signs were still on) from now on we will take our business elsewhere.

Post apocalypse vibe. Creepy, totally empty theater on a Friday night. Missing seats, torn upholstery on the remaing seats, missing ceiling tiles, dripping water.... we paid full price for a first run movie but never got to see it - film froze during the previews and never restarted. Poor lone employee was overwhelmed. Amazed that this place is able to stay in business.

They put a stupid child play area in front of Cinema 1 and it's impossible to hear the damned movie with brats screaming and banging on that garbage. Absolutely miserable night at the movies. People's unruly crumb munchers ruin everything for everybody. And I despise people who chat in the theater. If you wanna act like you're at home, stay the hell home. Jackasses.

Popcorn is amazing! Building is old, but don't let that fool you. Picture and sound are great! Employees are very friendly. They even came outside in the rain to escort us in with umbrellas!

It was such a crazy evening I just had to post. The tickets had to be purchased at the popcorn stand. It took forever! I was not buying any food etc but had to wait while family's bought tickets and waited for there orders. So we sit down and there are no previews....OK I could let it go but then the movie started 20 min late! I will say the picture was good as well as the sound. When we went to leave my shoe stuck to the floor. I'm all about supporting local business but come on! Pretend you care about customer service.

Me an my husband made a trip here for date night about 8 months back during winter time and we froze the entire movie. There was no heat what so ever. We decided a couple of days ago to try it out again because it's summer time and we figured they might have made some improvements. That was not the case. Everyone was really rude, the bathrooms smelt like straight urine, the floor of the theater was trashed like it hadn't been cleaned all day long. It very run down and I would not recommend this to anyone.

Really wish I could have given this cinema 0 stars. Absolutely awful place. The player was having issues and after being moved theaters and waiting 45 minutes we were finally able to watch the movie. The staff was rude and I walked out to the bathroom to hear them loudly making fun of and complaining about customers. The bathrooms had 3 stall, two of which were out of order and the third was clogged. A very low-class cinema.

This hometown theater has been preserved for everyone to enjoy. They have been doing renovations over time and I was pleased to notice that they had new seats in the the theaters. Very comfy! We enjoyed a good movie (good visual and sound quality), great popcorn, and even better hospitality. It isn’t new and flashy, but this theater holds a lot of memories. In fact, I watched my first theater movie here nearly 35 years ago. Thanks for hanging on to a piece of my hometown and preserving so I can bring my kids to watch a film while we are in town visiting the family!

The place is super run-down. Maybe if they could fix it up, it would be better. It's really just an eye-sore and I would rather drive all the way to Shelby for a movie instead where the screens don't have issues and the seats don't seem to be falling apart. The popcorn was stale the last time I went, (a few weeks ago), the staff wasn't as friendly as they could be, they were all just kind of laying around instead of cleaning the place (which it is in desperate need of.) This place used to be the highlight when I was a kid, but not anymore.

Simply, a bit dated, but a convenient spot for some of the popular movies out there. I'm hoping improvements to the interior will continue. It really is showing it's age. Other than this, Retro 4's the most economical of the nearest theaters.

If you clean it I will be a loyal customer. Clean it! and keep it clean. Is that mold coming from the air vent? I see black dust spread across the ceiling from the air vents. Please have a professional company which cleans and UV's the inside of the ducts and maybe a mold team to test for suspect pieces of debris. I would like to come to your theater so hopefully you will take a look at these things.

If reviews were bases solely on the owners and workers attitudes this place would get a 5. I gave it a 4 though as of now because of how ran down it is. I realize the struggle that they are going through and when everything gets all the much needed fixes I'll change this review to a 5. If you live near forest city and like me, don't like driving to Shelby for Movies. Than support Retro and don't forget to buy some consessions. Everyone knows that is the only way a theater makes any money. The chairs aren't great, but the screens are big and clear and the sound is great. If you want this place to get better and not shut down, start supporting it a little more.

Over the years we have supported this theater, but I'm so sad that some young friends of mine were accused and treated so disrespectfully after unwittingly using a side entrance to retrieve something from the car. They were accused of sneaking in, which is completely understandable--BUT, after their tickets were produced, the owner did not apologize and continued to speak to them very rudely. They were all upset, obviously, but the owner definitely should have apologized after my young friends proved that they paid. Owner, if you would like to make this right, I can give you the contact info.

I had this theater rated at 1 star before I realized just how much the owners have sacrificed to keep this place open. So to them I apologize for giving the one star. I remember going to this place when I was a kid to see inspector gadget. That was about 20 years ago back when the mall was still trashy but far more alive than it is today. I always remember going to that theater. So when we finally moved here 4 months ago I was appalled to see chairs just sitting on each other broken, no carpet, a shopping cart in the theater.. The outside falling a part and clearly the inside. The ticket prices were what you'd pay at an imax. The only good thing I saw was the screen was very clear and big, and it was cold inside. I just felt the tickets were way overpriced as the inside was filthy. Coming from Raleigh where we have a 1.50 theater this place was just run down. I figured the owners were being cheap and not putting a penny into it. Instead the truth is they purchased this place in 09 and have put every last penny they have into it.. The guys even raffling off his car to get much needed money for upgrades. They are doing everything to keep this place afloat and from one business to another I appreciate that and recognize their struggle. I'll be coming back, the owners are trying to make it better and I'd prefer to give them my money rather than Hendersonville or Shelby. I can't give this place 5 stars.. Heck there was a bicycle sitting in the chairs!!! But I can bump it up a couple more stars for all the heart and effort they're putting into this place.

I was a more than a little unhappy that they pulled the movie I wanted to see with my son but still have it listed online with showings. I screenshotted. It is a bit out of my way to go to FC or Gaffney. I try to support more local. So I missed the showing in Gaffney to see the one here. Now I will have to see about online I guess. I go at the end of showing period because less likely to have my autistic son bother anyone. He loved seeing StarWars our last outing. Really Bummed.

I actually enjoy comming to this theatre, and im so glad they kept it open. I just wish the county officials would find some type of investor for a update/renovation though. My teens enjoy comming here with there friends, and for a local resident you can't really beat the price or location. Now the chair did drop while I was watching a movie one day, but that's beside the point. Other than that, I'll be returning.

Theater 1 and 2 are great. 3 and 4 need new seating. More than half the chairs have signifant damage to their coverings in 3 and 4. Ceiling tiles are missing and stained throughout whole cinema. Bathrooms need repair due to exposed plumbing. Movies do not always start at right time.

Cant tell if its being remodeled or what. But when you walk in the theatre you can see the plywood on the walls and on the floors. The tickets are pretty cheap considering the condition.

Went there with my fiancé and we got there 10 min before the start of our movie so I ran back to the car and my fiancé let me in the exit side the owner got in my face and harassed me and my fiancé and the theater is already run down they don’t need a owner like that to keep it running

Family owned by great home town people who meet no stranger. Seats are comfortable, screens look great, and theres a little play area for the kids to play while your waiting for the movie to start. Highly recommend this establishment whether you are from here or just in town for short stay you will be treated well.

This is not the newest Cinema you'll walk into however the restrooms are pretty clean, the theater seats are comfortable, I've never walked out with anything stuck to my shoe and as with most theaters you can get overpriced popcorn candy and soda here. If your main interest is seeing the movie on the screen with your family and be comfortable doing it, this theater has all you need.

The owner is a Grinch. Projector failed within 30 secs of the movie starting. No refunds whatsoever. No apology. Stole our money and ruined our afternoon. How this place is in business is beyond me. Theaters have no working heat. Over half the chairs are ripped to shreds. Don’t ever give this establishment a penny, hopefully it goes out of business soon so others don’t have to experience the awful service and decrepit building.

Worst broken down theater I've ever been to AND paid full price! Screen was old and blurry, carpet was filthy, curtains in theater were thread bare and actually stapled to the walls. Plywood flooring?????? No wonder everyone drives to Hendersonville! Brought my parents and was thoroughly embarrassed! Don't open your establishment until you can provide quality entertainment! I have a better picture on my tv at home! Never ever again!!! What a dump!

I have watched movies here when it only had 2 screens. When Carmike announced they were closing it, I though, what a shame. The cinema was in poor condition before it was relaunched. The new owners have WORKED hard to better it in many ways. The improvements I know cost more than I can imagine. I know the past few times I was there, they were always working on improvements. The last movie I watched there was the Boyscout Zombie movie about a year ago. I know now with my MoviePass card that just came in today, my son and I are going tonight. Even if I have to walk past construction, I will be watching many more movies here, since it will only cost me $10 a month. I can watch every movie they get and I don't have to pay any more. The good thing is Retro still gets all their money and won't loose any. This way they can continue to improve our hometown cinema.

My family of 5 showed up to watch the Sherlock Gnomes movie at the 2pm posted time. When we got there we were told it was changed to 1pm for a birthday party. The workers said they can't do anything about it but I could purchase the 4:30 pm show tickets early. This is rediciolous and not the first time this has happened. So after driving 30 minutes to watch this movie we are going to have to drive all the way to Shelby to catch the 3:00 show. I would call ahead to ensure your movie times haven't changed before going to this theater! Bad business practice.

Horrible experience slow service outdated theater and to top it off they forgot to start the movie so 15 people sat staring at a blank screen for upwards of 15 minutes until the gentleman in front of me called the theater and complained... step up your game or shut down.
