Cant beat the price, super nice employee
The Howell Theatre is a great place to see a movie with the kids without breaking the bank. It is an old theatre, so the screens are a little smaller, and the sound not as cinematic. Overall, the price great, the theatre experience is decent, and the staff is friendly.
Nostalgia buffs will love this theater. No frills with reasonable prices. $4 movie, $4 popcorn which is butterlicious, $4 drink. Seats are comfortable, but too close to the row in front of you. No knee room. Staff is friendly and personable. Would go again in a heartbeat.
Very cool place, friendly staff and theater sound/visuals were good.
They're great. Cheaper than most because they get the movies a little later. Been coming here my whole life.
Great
Love love love...this place is a showcase of small town history. The employees are extremely nice, the prices are great and the showcase of old movies is the best idea ever.
Classic old school movie theater. Food stand adequate. Seats ok. Won't see current releases right away
Just left seeing Beauty and The Beast. The movie did start rather late but was worth the wait. Theatre always clean and people are rather friendly. The movie was awesome, I laughed and cried in between every scene. Some singing was a bit long though. Any way I'm giving you 5 stars. My first place to go to see a movie has always been Howell Theater.. been coming here since I was a little girl. And it's in walking distance from home.
Great place to hangout. Enjoyed going w/my cousin. Good clean fun.
Love it, come here every few months to see the great movies!
Great place to catch a movie! Comfortable and you can't beat the ticket price!
Prime spot and good price on the tickets. Ended up paying $20 for 5 ppl and 27.50 in popcorn combos. Still 47.50 is okay. Just watch out for the snack bar that will beat your pockets before you see it coming.
The perfect place for introverts who don't like crowded theaters plus the huge bonus of 4 dollar tickets and decently priced consessions. It's an old theater but I find it appealing. Love to go here.
I appreciate keeping the time gone by less expensive movie experience
Loved it!! My granddaughter had a great time!!
Had such a great time with family for a smaller cost than normal!! Thanks.
Great price for afternoon movie $4 per ticket
Very nice for the price! Only $4!!
It is an older theater, so don't judge it badly. The staff is always friendly when we go there. Our favorite time to go is Summer Days when two movies to choose from at the 10:00 A.M. movies are only a $1.00. Popcorn, candy, and drinks are still at the regular price. Make sure you get there in plenty of time to find a parking spot. There is very limited parking especially during the week during the day. It's around the court house so, it is very busy. Bathrooms are small so, be prepared for a wait. Sound and picture are good. You wount be disappointed when you go.
I love the vibe of this old theater, it reminds me of my movie-going youth. Both times I've been there, though, some kind of technical difficulty has occurred. (Curtains not drawn all the way back and three major stutter sessions) Don't let that discourage you. The manager cares for customer satisfaction and really does try. It's still worth the low ticket price ($4 evenings with plenty of close free parking and concession deals) .
They are making it work. Vintage feel. Good shows. Great price. I like this place!
My family recently moved an hour away and still prioritize coming to Howell whenever we can fit it in. The family friendly value, laid back atmosphere, and fantastic attitudes of staff are reason enough but they also bend over backwards to anyone in need and that's priceless.
My family and I have been going here since I was a kid. Great movies at a great price.
A great atmosphere, very family-centric. A good cheap date night idea or family outing
This is pure old-time nostalgia movie theater experience. The movies are cheaper concessions are cheaper and it just has a nice Hometown feel to the whole experience while getting to watch movies that have been out for a few weeks. The second that the movies are released from the neighbouring first-run theater they come here. Love it
Loved this older theater. It was nice and seats very comfortable. Prices good.
Things have changed. Used to get drink, pile of popcorn and Skittles in a carry tray plus movie for $4 for summer. Now small box of popcorn, drink, fruit gummies and movie. Better deal at SS Cinemas, less the fruit gummies for $2.50.
I love going here because of the history of the building. The staff is always pleasant, popcorn good. I rarely go o another theatre now that I've been here. It's old timey and the seats are comfortable and recline. I love coming here!
Very cute theater, reasonable pricing and seems like a great place to bring small children for their first movies
We love, love, LOVE Howell Theatre! The staff is FABULOUS, the interior is clean and I couldn't IMAGINE not having this place close by!
We love this theater!
Great price, nice seats! This was my first time visiting the Howell Theatre. Myself, wife and 2 kids had a good time watching Ferdinand. I was surprised by the seats in the inside. From the outside looking in, I thought the theater would be a little outdated, but it was surprisingly pleasant. The seats looked like they were recently replaced with nice leather looking seats. Looks like you are suppose to pay for your movie ticket at the front window, but you have to go to the concession stand on the inside to purchase the tickets. They also have seat boosters for small children. The movie ticket was $4 per person. Concessions were reasonably priced as well.
Clean, well-maintained, friendly service the real old school theater experience
Clean.... great sound system.
Great prices, friendly staff, and a very unique Cinema experience. In a world of huge 20 theater megaplexs / restaurants, it's nice to get a more classic quality experience.
Great old theater. The theater rooms are smaller than newer places. The prices are great!
Best theatre in NC. The owner is just awesome. There is a lot of history in that wonderful old building. Y'all have to try the popcorn just Wow!
Great for the price. Dont expect a newer style theater. But for $4 u cant beat it and confession are well priced.
Great little theater. Good prices on snacks also
First time at this theater. Cozy but modern. Screen sound and seats are good. Good job renovating the classic theater.
We had a wonderful experience I will be going back with other people too. It's only $4 to see a movie, you won't find that anywhere else. It's very clean and the people are very friendly. Try it you'll like it
Very small. Manager not nice. He made me feel like I was a burden because I wanted to buy my son a poster out front. Made a comment that I bought the poster before I had it in my hand but didnt know I was supposed to find it since it was written in the list of 'Available' posters. Never got the one my son wanted. He was very rude.
Great place to watch a movie!
This theater is a jewel. Great seating downstairs! Upstairs is very hard on tall folks or people with knee pain. But the old charm and beauty is worth the drive from Garner. Best popcorn around. It is a delight to bring the family!
It was a cool little place, popcorn could have used a little more salt but loved the ventage feel of it.
This is a small town style theater that shows recently released but not new release movies. Ticket prices are about $4 per ticket and concession prices are relatively cheap compared to other major theater brands. They have two downstairs screens with recently renovated seats and two upstairs screens that are smaller with older seats. A really good deal for a good cheap night out. Definitely worth checking out.
This theatre is an old theatre; it is quaint and sweet. If it weren't for the newer movies and screens you would feel like you had gone back in time. All ticket prices are the same; $4 in December 2017. The price of the concessions is a little cheaper than most small theatres but is definitely cheaper than big, new theatres. The atmosphere itself is a great reason to go. We loved it!
Prices are great. Popcorn is old a lot of times. And the upstairs theater's are so uncomfortable
We love the Howel Theater. Everyone is always very nice and helpful! Very inexpensive.
Historic theater with great prices ($4 admission, $10 concessions gets you a lrg drink, candy and popcorn!) and super friendly staff. Very clean and we'll kept. Remember when going to a movie was fun and affordable? That's What This Place is.
Smelled very funny and the employees were extremely loud while the movie was playing
I love the Howell theatre. Great prices, good staff and outstanding experience. If you haven't been; it's a must try. I admit I only go to movies showing in there upstairs theatre's. I do not enjoy the lower levels as much.
First, the movies are only $4 each for every age, snacks are probably the same as other theaters, and I like that I purchase the tickets inside at the snack counter where I can pay for snacks and tickets together. The employees are friendly and helpful, too. There are 4 theaters, 4 movies to choose from, 2 on the second floor. Times vary, so I suggest going to the Howell Theater website for listings. Also, I am fairly certain it tells you which movies are upstairs if you have trouble climbing. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I would like to have seen Aquaman in 3D, which they don't have. However, the sound is great, the seats rock and are comfortable, and there's a cup holder for your drinks. Like home, but a lot more fun!
My favorite place to watch a movie. New? No. Fancy? Nope. Right price, nice people, and snacks for good movies? Yep.
Great prices and best popcorn
Good price for a movie. Nice, comfy chairs downstairs. Old, narrow chairs upstairs.
Great hidden treasure. Love this theater. Prices are AWESOME including food and snacks. Better than the big theater's in my opinion. Small theater charm from back in the day
Love this place!
Price of tickets fantastic. Staff were okay. They cut the credits short and some people like to watch the credits.
Love this home town movie theater.
Great place to watch movies. They are very reasonably priced unlike most theaters. You may have to wait a little while for the movie you want but for me, I usually don't mind the wait. It's a locally owned small business which I prefer to spend my money at. Usually smaller crowds and much shorter lines at the concession stand. We love going here.
Great place to see a good movie for cheap! The staff is great. However being an older theater it has some quirks, but the owners are trying to fix them!
Cheap movie prices but concessions too expensive
Quaint vintage movie theater
Great little theatre , nice and quite, prices you can’t beat. Very nice and been around a long time. Best around!!!
Enjoyed the movie in a quaint setting, quiet and clean! Enjoyed the popcorn, too! Look forward to going back!
Cozy small town theater, good prices great popcorn
My family and I have been going to Howell Theater for years! It's truly a hidden gem. The staff are always wonderful: friendly, helpful, and funny! REAL, fresh popcorn, perfectly carbonated sodas, and all the candy your heart desires! The theater is always spotless, and you can't beat their prices!
What can I say, their prices are cheap and people who work there nice. Perfect move theatre.
Very clean facility and very friendly staff. The upper theaters have a vintage feel which is a unique atmosphere but feels a bit tight if your on the taller side. Overall a great experience and an absolute bargain at $4 a ticket. We should all strive to patronize local businesses, I definitely go back!
It's a great bargain however the upstairs theaters need a slight upgrade. The seats are very old, close and could probably use a good cleaning. The popcorn is awesome!
This is a cool, old fashioned theater. Prices are fantastic and the staff are great!!! This place is a hidden gem!
i love going to this theater. it reminds me of a different time. it definitely makes me nostalgic of a time i never knew. i love the fact that this theater was built in the 30's and it is still up and running to this day. its amazing. imagine the history in those seats. i love it!
It was nice old timey theater with a lot of class. Staff were polite and amazing and the seats were actually pretty comfy
A good place to take the family. They play movies that are out of the big theaters .So if you miss a movie then go to the Howell theater and the price is a bit less. So for a big family this is more affordable movie price . So go and enjoy yourself. I know I will again.
Staff could be a little more friendly and helpful.
Wonderful old theatre, that has great popcorn and awesome admission prices!!
Friendly service
So many memories... I love taking my kids here. Seats are really comfortable too.
Its ok. Maybe should lover the price back to 2 dollars.
Great experience for a local theater. Only 'complaint' was the seats were a little narrow for my frame. But hey... $4.
Good environment. However, popcorn was a little off.
Always a great family value
We absolutely love Howell Theatre! It's a treat for our 5 year old! The theater is small but we love the atmosphere and the cost!!
Only place I know of where you can still catch a new movie for 4 bucks. The old place is kept clean and we'll maintained.
We love going to Howell Theater. Such a Nostalgic Theater. Takes you back in time to the much simpler days. Great movies at a reasonable price.
Wow what a great old-time experience. Nothing fancy just a straight-up snack bar good movie and friendly employees.
It's a great theatre for catching up on those action movies that you've been wanting to see on the big screen, but missed the earlier opportunities to take the time. Now's that second chance! What's even better is paying around half the price for admission for an impressively well kept historical theater with an updated seating for comfort that exceeds expectations.
Good with price to watch the movie. High on price with foods and drink. But overall great place.
A great place to watch a movie. Downstairs has very comfortable seating, upstairs is "period" to when the theater was built...makes you appreciate the downstairs. Always easy parking close to front door. We drive from SW Raleigh and find it quicker and easier than going to Brier creek or north Raleigh. Doesn't have new release first run films, but if you don't have to be the first to see a movie this is the place to go.
Good family night out without breaking the bank.
Great prices. Good location. Highly reccomended
Great price and good people.
Not enough food selections my daughter has braces and doesn't eat candy or popcorn. And she has a dairy allergy other than that it was great not crowded no loud people..I actually watched the movie it was awesome ..
I took my wife, sister-in-law, and her husband here last night. I've been in the past, but they had never been before. We all had a great time. Despite the remodelings that have occurred over the many decades of this theater, it still maintains the historical feel. The prices are perfect, and well worth checking out. We look forward to going again in the near future!
All movies $4 great home town feel, what could be better!
I love this place. Been coming here for ages. Always sweet people and decent movie selection.
Our daughter is 3 and we took her to the Howell yesterday for her first "big movie" experience. Selfishly, I chose the Howell because if she didn't last the entire movie I'd only be out $9 for the 3 of us! But having not been there in years, it was really awesome - like going back in time to when I was a kid and that was "the" place to go see movies. Everyone was super nice and she was congratulated by management with a lollipop after the movie for being such a good first timer. The theater was very clean, restrooms well kept and the snacks were great - awesome price point too. She was well behaved and enjoyed the experience, so I see more matinee afternoons in our future. Thanks for keeping tradition alive and affordable!
We are so thankful to have a theater like this so close by. The prices are fantastic, the employees are friendly and the movie viewing experience never disappoints. Much love for the Howell ❤
Man what can I say this place is super VERY good prices so.e place to go to a old school theater where you can take a date for $20 with popcorn and drink. Best deal in Johnston County
Love going to the movies & the price is right
Great place, great staff but bathrooms were a little small!!
Always a great place to see a cheap movie!! Popcorn and drinks were on point!!
Had my daughter's birthday party here. Party room accommodated 12 kids easily, with parents. Old theater, with lots of history. Tickets very reasonably priced, and if you pay a little more, included popcorn and drink for the kids. Definitely got out cheaper here than other party places. I'll do this again, and have already recommended to friends.
I love this little theater! Its a break away from the big movie theater industry and takes you a step back in time. P.S. The seats are amazingly comfortable!!!
Went to see Small Foot. It was awesome. Seats are comphy.
Great place to watch a movie! Reasonable prices with an old time theater feel. Great customer service and traditional movie snacks. Cost my husband and I $20.00 for two tickets, two sodas, and a large popcorn! Loved it!
I always love going to the Howell! It's neat, interesting and fun! You'll always get a good show for your money!
Great little theater
Loved this theatre. Great atmosphere. Hard for my friend who is 6'4" because the seating was a little cramped. For normal sized people, it was tight, but comfy.
Enjoy the modern and the original design and the atmosphere
Great experience
Great selection of movies for 4.00 each person. Clean theater, big screens, dolby surround sound, very nice people working there and super comfortable seats that lean back! The regular theater was going to cost us 65.00 for 4 people to get in thats not even popcorn?!?!?! For $22 we got 4 seats and a large popcorn with 2 extra bags for sharing and we throughly enjoyed our family night out. Best theater for the price.
Great Movie House and great family value
I love this theatre, wife and I moved to Smithfield a year ago and occasionally catch a movie at the Howell. The staff has always been friendly, prices are GREAT and you can get all the same things you can from larger, more expensive theatres. Being right in the heart of old town Smithfield you can quickly find parking and head to this quaint theatre for a show, feeling like you're back in the 50's walking down main to catch a flick. I highly recommend!
Yes the bathrooms are small (but they are clean), no there's no 'designated' parking (but there are options)... But when it comes to price this theatre has the others beat 'hands down'. Tickets are only $4, & it kills me when I see reviews that say concessions are priced high - compared to the big movie theatres, are you kidding me? And the staff listen to what your concession needs are and then offer the best option of specials. Also, in following on Facebook there are chances to win date night packages and they strive to stay in touch with their community.
I have always loved this place. Sadly, it has lost its charm. It is generally too noisy to hear the film, either from the large number of children or the bleed through sound from the next room.
It's a great place to enjoy a really good show for minimal expense. I don't think there's anywhere else in the area that's as good as this.
Good place to take the familynto see the latest movies when you're on a budget
Took my son to see Ant Man and Wasp for $21..2 tickets 2 Large Drinks and Large PopCorn...definitely worth the value...
Great comfortable seats!
Wonderful theatre...awesome movies...great price. Beautiful atmosphere!!❤❤❤
Charming old-fashioned theater with $4 movies in downtown Smithfield. Like all other movie theaters, the snacks are outrageously priced, but the building is really nifty and the ticket prices can't be beat, if you don't mind waiting a little while after the release date to catch a particular film. It's my favorite thing to do downtown!
Nice little local theatre. Can't beat a $4 movie in a cool theatre on a hot afternoon. Staff aims to please.
Friendly staff, comfortable seats, and the most reasonable prices around! Three tickets, two candies, and one drink cost $20.
This is a good ole fashioned movie theater. It's $4 per person per movie. They have 4 different movie theaters showing different movies at the same time. They of course have snacks available too. You can have birthdays here or other events if you'd like. They have a party room..check them out & bring the family.
Good place to take a date. Nice little theatre.
Great spot to catch a cheap movie that's out of the big theaters. Old school movie hall layout, somewhat refreshed seats but great digital picture/sound. Never seen it too crowded either.
Great old (takes me back to my 1960s teenagerdom) theater. Good movies. Cool ambiance! I go whenever I can!
We used to enjoy this theater. Now the girls are rude.(like we're a nuisance) While watching the credits one pushed past us and began to vacuum. No customer service skills at the counter. Sad to see. We have given them several chances in hopes for just a bad day. I hope they go back to how they once were. Also, just having one register open to sell tickets and concessions, makes a lot of people miss the beginning of their show.
Love that this is a family owned movie theater. I won't go anywhere else.
Comfortable and very clean. The price can't be beat. I will definitely return.
Great movie and service. Water on bathroom floor caused me some concern.
Old fashioned hometown family-owned theater. It will bring nostalgia to older folks with an authentic vintage retro vibe. Current movies at discount prices.
One of my favorite places to visit. The price is right, and you get first run movies just a couple of weeks after they hit the expensive theaters. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they have the best popcorn in town.
my granddaughter and I had a blast watching Mideah
Great value, great staff and seats downstairs are great!
Old establishment which is part of the charm. Prices for matinees have gone up slightly but still very reasonable. It is NOT handicap accessible for the 2 upstairs theaters, only stairs. Seats are in narrower than usual due to age, and the bathrooms are very narrow and very small. Good food deal for kids at certain times when you buy combo. It is part of Smithfield history though.
Good overall experience but seats are low in some places and I can mack it hard to see
Best theatre in town for a good price. Rather pay $4 for a ticket than $8+, while also contributing to historic preservation as well. The owner is a joy to talk to.
Great price $4.00. Old but remodeled and very clean and comfortable.
Went here with my best friend to watch Pirates of the Carribean on 7/8/2017 and had a great experience. 4 stars for great service and reasonable price on refreshments versus regular theatre. Hope to come back. Thank you. B+
Great home town movie theater! Reasonable ticket prices and you won't get gouged at the concession stand. A large drink, nachos with cheese and a large box of candy was only $11. One adult two kids was only $38 for tickets and snacks! We love coming here to save money over the big chain movie theaters.
Great prices, very polite and friendly staff, and comfortable seating. After attending a movie at a Regal Theater a few days ago we went here for a showing of Jaws, which I had never seen in a theater before. The experience was awesome! Popcorn was cheaper and tasted better, and the overall atmosphere was a throwback to my childhood.
Awesome spot and awesome people!!! Best shot around to go watch a movie!!!
I love this old timey place!
Always a good places Spend a couple hours
