REVIEWS OF Cinema Village IN New York

xiao hello

A very fun place to see an independent movie. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon recently to see "Laugh Killer Laugh". The theatre where I saw the film was small and probably had forty or fifty seats. There were only seven people at this particular showing, so it was a very intimate experience. The sound was really good and not too loud like you find in so many modern cinemas. The seats aren't that comfortable (they don't recline) and this is my only 'complaint' about my entire visit. The concessions are cheaply priced for a cinema. I had a fountain Pepsi and a small popcorn for five bucks. The old style vibe of the cinema and the great selection of films will definitely bring me back here in the future.

I attended a world premiere here a week ago. The acoustics were great and so was the film, whose selection I thought showed the venue's courage in presenting challenging material. I guess that's the advantage of independence.

The Corcoran Group

One of our favorite spots to catch an independent flick. The theater is super small and cozy, so be sure to arrive early to get seats.

Great service, very clean and good selection.

The tickets for a mid-afternoon, mid-week session cost 12 dollars. The theater is small but comfortable. The popcorn was 4-6 dollars.

Old school. Time to revamp.

I went here to see "The Dawn Wall" and I was really impressed. Their customer service is exemplary. I bought two tickets then realized I couldn't go for the day I originally bought them for, and they helped me change the tickets to a different day. I loved the small theater feel and really enjoyed the movie. I will definitely come here again.

Henry Rüsch

Fantastic phone service at the box office. The young lady even called me back to let me know that the film was to be extended one more week. Yes, there are a few places in New York which provide friendly and courteous service, and Cinema Village is one of them.

Meg Smith

Old school theatre. Convenient location, interesting films. Seats (legroom, sightline, general comfort) aren't the greatest. Staff is friendly.

Nice quaint theater

Lufa's Assistant

Laughable. The employees said they hated working here. The seats are uncomfortable and seem like they were pulled from 90's themed garage sale that just so happened to have theatre seating.

If you're looking for a throwback to classic 70s New York cinema. Then are mondernized but can show 70mm film.

Mohamed O

The lobby in the theater scene clean sold in the bathroom to stop was decent even though I felt like they kind of forgot about us in theater 2, one of the other customers had to ask what happened to the movie and they started the movie nearly 10 past the start time. As far as the picture quality and the sound it most definitely felt like a 90's movie theater, the sound quality with standard and the seating was a bit uncomfortable. I would most definitely go again but only if I get the tickets at a discount price like I did with Groupon.

Small but very intimate theater. I enjoyed being able to watch Alien:Covenant with other movie goers that found the humor in the scenes. It was a great date night.

A beautifil hidden gem of a movie theater. Small and a little warm (wear layers so you can adjust accordingly), but nothing beats the nostalgia of seeing a good movie in a dusty Greenwich Village cinema where a large popcorn is still just 6 bucks! #buylocal

One of the few movie house with intimate, small-ish rooms in comfortable settings that show indie films.

Mark B Borg Jr

I've been seeing movies at Cinema Village since, could it be, 1997? I came to New York to complete my final internship for my doctorate in clinical/community psychology and was working at a community mental health clinic--The 5th Avenue Center--right around the corner (10th and 5th). Oh how we all needed a break from the mayhem (patients included, we'd sometime run into them there). Happy that your still around!

Always something interesting on any of the 3 screens!

Jorge Alvarado

one of my favorite theater in my vertical island!

Daniel Munro

Hilton Webb

Nice small theater with three screens. Numbers one & two are upstairs and number three is downstairs with the bathrooms. It's not very large and the seats are a bit narrow for a fat man but at $8 for seniors, kids, and students and only $12 for adults how much can you compkain? At those prices walking downstairs to see Roseamund Pike in "A Perfect War" was well worth the trouble. Since theater three is only seventy-one seats buy your tickets early and arrive early. The same advice is probably good for theaters one & two. Enjoy!

Jordana Schacht-Levine

Great variety of films in the heart of greenwich village.

steven Rosner

It's spartan. But,it's well maintained. It probably, has more esoteric films, than any movie-theater. Even,in Manhattan. It's may not have the decor, of the nearby Quad Cinema. Still,it certainly, deserves to flourish.

Mushtaq Choudhury

They have exclusive titles. Good if you like to avoid the crowds and like indie films. Small venue nice staff.

Jonathan Mazza

Awesome movie theater. Great price!

Eric Moore

Excellent place to visit that has a lovely atmosphere beautiful scenery lots of activities , with a diverse cultural background of cuisine places to dine at. Excellent activities for the kids .

Jacob Pedroza

The selection of films are impeccable. However, the people who seem to work there really don't care about what art is playing or not, they swipe the ticket and that's it. I tried to have a conversation about the films and I got blank stares, weird for a movie theater catered towards independent and art house films. The seats are uncomfortable except for the main theatre which is fine and beautiful, but for the other smaller ones, they are extremely cold and have terrible seats. Such a weird experience. You'd think they'd hire people who care about the craft and the films, but it seems like they really don't care, you're just money walking in and out, and they don't try and hide it by being nice.

Erez Yaron

The setting is nice and intimate for a screening and the Q&A after, no need for mic to chat with the panel

Stephen Nichols

a little small no leg room

Ava Brown

I went here in College and it is nice that it is still here. You cannot fault a place which gives discounts to seniors, students, and children of its own accord. We saved $30! At least! The popcorn was delicious and the staff was polite and kind. The movie was good and there were not 40 minutes of previews and commercials. It was not too loud-just right. Truly unique and independent. What a great place-we will probably try to frequent it as often as we can!

Chris Clark

Smaller theaters, but fine. Picture and sound were great-neither too loud or soft. More of a hub for independent films, great for that since it was literally the only theater showing the picture I wanted to see (in Darkness). Worth it.

Harshal Alurkar

Technically flawless intimate, indie, inexpensive movie experience!

Aurelia Braxton

Small but nice. I went to see my niece in her starring roll as Angel in Night Comes On

Aminah Taylor

It's a pretty small place but there there are nice small films and you get to meet the creators at times

Marshall Shaffer

I've never been so hot and stuffy as I was watching a movie last night. Do they have air conditioning? If so, they should consider turning it on for the sake of the filmmakers - watching my movie became significantly worse for the sweltering temperatures. I don't intend to come back here unless they are showing something I can't see anywhere else.

Stephen Chase

Worst cinema in the Metro New York area.

Will Rocklin

The worst popcorn. I love popcorn but don't even bother. Tasted like salty stale chemicals. Orville Redenbacher would be spinning in his grave. Good turn off your cell phone PSA, though.
