This place needs new flooring and chairs; it smells awful. Also, Magic johnson sold it YEARS ago. This is an AMC theater and they need to do better! UPDATE: 5/29/19 The theater has new flooring and it smells much better. Chair upgrades and better concession service will raise the rating again. Now 3 stars instead of 2.

The crew member working the concession stand was super friendly and hilarious. We had a good laugh, it was a great way to start off our movie date. He also signed us up for the AMC membership, told us about the benefits, and also gave us a tip about a trailer that will play after the credits. I wish we caught his name, but he provided one of the best customer service experiences I've had in a movie theatre to date.

Nice clean theatre with all the latest movies always available. We went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't really crowded. Food is regular high priced movie food and fresh. Concession lines can be long at times but that is expected. Make sure you join AMC club for some good deals every now and then. If you look around you can find parking up the block sometimes.

Only drawback is that there are always issues with the cleanliness of the female restrooms. Inoperable toilets, no tissues or hand towels, and urine on seats or the floors.

Great neighborhood movie theater. Pretty clean. I haven't caught bedbugs yet here. When watching movies there's no one smoking weed like I'm some other ghetto theaters. Be careful when you buy tickets in advance in the atom app or whatever, people tend to sit wherever and you might have to kick them out of your seat.

Went to see the avengers end game the movie was great but u had kids making noise teenagers having loud conversations and vaping weed! And people sitting in other people's seats! And people phone screens bright and people using they camera lights all over the place other then all the distractions after wanting to leave after a while I got threw the whole movie! Omg...popcorn is from a bag so it's definitely not fresh it's more like stale. Almost every time we go SOMEONE is sitting in our seats. It's just stressful to go there. And I can walk there. If we do go to the movies, we take cab to 84th st instead of going there.

Little was a really good movie. Great for families and adults alike. Bathrooms were relatively clean. The seats are new but do not recline like other AMC theaters. Overall okay theater. I typically go there when supporting black films. Just feels different. Will go back again.

My experience was terrible at AMC Magic Johnson theater. The movie was supposed to start at 8pm, it started at around 8:10... their was no previews of other shows. After a few minutes of started the movie the lights still remained on....Lastly after the movie I couldn't believe how disgustingly dirty people left the place...whatever they ate and drank was just left on the floor..I have never experienced such lack of disrespect for others. Their was no regards for the young men and women who have to come after ADULTS to clean up after them. That was my 1st and last time I will be visiting AMC MAGIC THEATER!!!!! TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING..

This is my go-to movie theater because of the location. While it is being slowly renovated (new carpet, Dolby theater w/reclining seats) - it's still never clean. The self service areas (drinks, butter, napkins) are consistently dirty or not working. The bathrooms are always dirty. (Stalls broken, actual trash and toilet paper everywhere, sinks covered in paper towels and who-knows-what.) The staff / service is up in the air. Sometimes it's great, other times you're just a bother. If you have issues with disruptions during a movie - forget it. I've never seen rowdy people removed even when they were an annoyance through the entire movie. But, hey, at least it doesn't have bed bugs (not sure on mice) like the Times Square AMC!

Better experience than expected. I liked the ticket counter right at the door upstairs. Decreases loitering and folks just hanging out. There were new "leather-like" seats and the floor wasn't sticky. I was rather comfortable in my seat. Also, the theater #9 didn't smell moldy. Overall good experience.

When I went to get my ticket to see a movie on Tuesday a dark skin lady that was working on the register was vary rude and had people skip me on line when I was an AMC Prime Membership Holder... I left and went to call the movie theater to complain and no one pick up the phone... I even called the next day in the morning and still the same... So I don’t recommend going to a place that is nasty and has bad customer service.

On Saturday April 21, 2019 I was at this theater with my family to see Little. I have no complaints about the movie I recommend it 100% .. The theater experience however was ATROCIOUS!!! I was in theater 7 and it was completely filthy! throw up on the floor, popcorn from a previous movie and the floors were severely sticky. The theater was Overcrowded and no one was sitting in the seats assigned prior to entering the theater. The concessions line was ridiculous and there too was a huge mess of popcorn and slushie cup lids, there was only one cashier who was moving very slow and one party had about 13 people in it. I had to wait in line 10-15 minutes just for a drink resulting in me missing parts of my movie. I also wasn’t expecting there to be so many toddlers in the movie as the movie was rated pg-13. I WILL NO BE RETURNING TO AMC MAGIC JOHNSON AGAIN as this was my worst movie theater experience.

This AMC is best during morning hours. After that it can be a mad house. Check your seats, never know what's lurking around from pop-corn, soda or little critters (no bedbugs suspected.) Food stand moves very slow so I recommend you purchase a membership so you can skip through all that.

This theater is in a great location. Its many windows offer a great view for people watching on the busy 125th street. Food choices are great. Reclinging Seating has been upgraded in some theaters but not all. The lines move quickly some days but most days the food time waiting is long. Overall great theater.

Nice neighborhood movie theater that generally have the latest movies I desire to see. They offer great refreshments, but they are kind of pricey. They upgraded one of the theaters in the back, putting in Dolby surround sound, plush seats that allow you to really lean back and prop your feet up. The rest of the theaters need cosmetic renovations. Used to be nice theater but after 15 yrs of wear and stare, its time to upgrade

This theater has come a long way from what it used to be. However, it still needs a bit of work. There should be more people working the snack counters to avoid creating long lines. There should be a line for people who has already paid for their seats and those who has purchased them at the theater. Also, I've stopped purchasing seats in the standard theaters because people will literally sit anywhere even when their seat is labeled on their ticket. This has happened way too many times and even I've gotten into an altercation with a woman for refusing to get up. Security should be posted in packed theaters to ensure that this isn't happening.

It’s so many things wrong with this movie theater and I’m just in awe. First of all why is the garbage over flowing outside the theater as soon as you get off the escalator? Second of all the bathroom is so discussing, toilet tissue all over the bathroom floors in every bathroom stall with no toilet tissue, hand soap or toilet seat covers! Third of all why is there napkins sticking to the floors all over when you’re ordering your food with that dirty a** carpet that haven’t been cleaned god knows when and the biggest problem is HOW YOU DON’T HAVE COURTESY WATER/SELTZER WATER?! I have never heard of an establishment especially a movie theater not having Courtesy cups for water and I’ve been to some upscale movie theaters! Last but I’m sure won’t be the least is WHY THE HELL IS THE AIR-CONDITIONER BOOMING HIGH WHEN IT’S 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE?! Magic Johnson come and see what’s been going on at your theater in Harlem because this theater need a upgrade all around including customer services! Movie theater is in my neighborhood so it's nice to be close to home for late night screenings. It's not always the cleanest and folks will sit in the wrong seats until security comes to settle it but it's an AMC and I'm a stubs member so i take advantage of the discount tickets on Tuesdays. There's only 1 dolby theater and i try to book tickets for it wherever possible! They should make Dolby the standard!

This theater does not give you that new movie excitement feel. It’s very small the staff are very rude just talking amongst themselves, make you late for the movie and sometimes are not even at the counter. I took my daughter there she loved the movie but again she would of loved watching the same movie on our smart TV with homemade popcorn. So if I were to influence you to come here I would be wrong. Please save your money don’t waste it at least not in this theater. Also, the theater was not clean, the seats smelled so bad I really could not put my back on the whole seat I felt like something was going to crawl on me I was so relieved when the movie ended.

The women at the Concession stand had attitude, as if I was bothering her. She would not come over to me she was working on something behind the counter. I am sorry, this theatre needs a serious upgrade!!!! From the smell of inside the theatre to the seats, to the people managing the lighting and previews and showing of the movie. Lets not forget the stale tasting popcorn. This place needs a huge upgrade. They ruined my whole movie experience. As for something they cant change the customers and how filthy they leave their surroundings maybe this is why the theatre is ran the way it is.

This theater is highly problematic. Beginning with ticketing system and ending with the consession stand. We had to wait over 10 minutes to have our ticket scanned to enter. When we went to pick up our express concessions they were not ready. People were pawing through the bags and putting their hands inside. The bathroom was dirty and no lock on the door of the stall I entered. The floors are sticky, so much so my shoe got stuck to it several times. The soda machines were empty and needed refill cartridges. There was absolutely Noone at the customer service desk. To top it off there was a couple who snuck in food and lot up the whole row with their phone just to look at the food. They talked through the whole movie and it looked like they were fooling around as well. I had to tell them to shut up several times. Do yourself a favor and skip this location.

Magic Johnson theatre is a historical place to watch movies with pictures of legend and icons of all genres backgrounds. As soon as you get to the third floor you will be like wow. Very clean place and staff members are very helpful and polite. I recommend you go here to watch a movie with family or friends you will love it. Etc...

Hey, Honestly, this theater needs to be renovated. Badly! My seat was broken! I almost fell into the row behind me. Thankfully, this isn't my home location. The staff is good. No issues with them at all. 3 stars because my movie was good. That's it. I had to sit with a seat between my kids and I. Very frustrating.

I went to the theatre with my partner and when we approached the ticket handler he stated that we had to wait outside the door where they collect tickets being that our movie started 30 to 40min. We asked why do we have to wait outside the door, because he did not give an explanation as to why we need to wait until I asked. He claims that he has allowed others to sit down and wait and then people would roam around. I have gone to this theatre for years and loved it until now. Additionally, majority of the time I have gone to this theatre there are long waits to get snacks. Many who have been there can attest to that. They need to figure this one out.

The new reclining seats theater is great, but all the money was put into that room and not into fixing the oven or the drink machines. So it's nice to have a great viewing experience, but I would like the full menu to actually be available :) I had the popcorn, curly fries and water. They fries and popcorn were delicious

I have to say even though I'm giving this place 3 stars, I still go here often. It's within waking distance and convenient. The movies are great. Unfortunately the place is never clean and the bathrooms are lacking in maintenance. Try to see movies in theater 5. That's the only one with reclining seats and surround sound!

They lured me to this theater by the name. I believe in supporting African American businesses. To my surprise once I bought my expensive ticket and food and drink; I learned the truth. Magic Johnson sold this theater and his others to AMC Theaters years before I came there! I think this is false advertising when they used his name on the marquee and his picture in the concession area. I went before the remodeling and it was okay but a friend went recently and says it's even better.

Expect to arrive to a missing seat. Bought tickets on the AMC app to Widows. When I arrived to the packed theater the seat I bought in the back row #12 was taped up with yellow caution tape when I arrived. Too bad it was so dark I would show you the pic. Regular theater, nothing special. Good for catching a movie in your neighborhood.

Always liked coming here. I live way downtown but will happily support the MJ theater when I am uptown. The staff is great with the exception of the ticket lady. She talks way too much and a line forms quickly. I had to use the ticket dispensing machine to be sure I got to my seat in time. Also, time needs to be taken to clean the theater floors, since they are sticky. Particular attention needs to be given when PG movies are shown since the "little people" can make a mess. Thank you Magic Johnson for investing in Harlem!

I went there to see Addams Family with my kids. I had a bit of an issue so I asked to speak to a manager. He came over promptly, was courteous and resolved my problem very quickly! Awesome customer service- never had a bad experience there but now I'm truly impressed. Wish I had asked the manager for his name because he deserves to be recognized!

I wish there was a negative star option. We went on a Tuesday night which is a discount night. There was only 1 elderly lady working the ticket booth. She was working both lines. That was TIME CONSUMING AND FRUSTRATING. But the theater was extremely DIRTY. The girl at the concession stand had on gloves that she did NOT change in between taking cash payments and making people's food. That was DISGUSTING there was a dried up juice stain on the floor there was a wet floor sign beside it. However the spill had DRIED up so now its STICKY/GUMMY. Then at other AMC theaters you can enter the theater 30 mins before the movie starts. NOPE not here...We literally were able to walk in and the previews were already playing. Now once we got to our seats...smdh...they still have the OLD seats. I was SHOCKED AND CONFUSED. The reclining seats are REGULAR for ALL movies at Bay Plaza AMC as well as Fresh Meadows. I don't know why both the AMCs in Manhattan FORCE people to "pay" for the reclining seats. The one in Times Square has this same problem also. Needless to say I will NEVER go to Magic Johnson theater ever again in life. This was my first and last visit. We did NOT stay for our movie we left. The seats were too UNCOMFORTABLE and I REFUSED to pay for a "upgrade" mind you the movie we went to see was NOT showing in the "good" theater. Both AMCs in Manhattan should be ASHAMED. This is no way to host people who come to NYC to visit.

This movie theater is located in the heart of Harlem. You can easily spend a whole day to shop and enjoy a movie at night. The environment is clean and inviting! I have been there a few times already and have nothing negative to say about it. Definitely reccomend if you do not want to be in a crowded neighborhood such as times square.

Very turned off from this theater again, arrived at 1646 and waited in line for 25 minutes with only 5 people in front us to see a movie at 1700. Head cashier or person with keys, stating he was not the manager closed one line with approximately 40 people waiting to purchase tickets. Was not able to purchase anything from the concession stand because the movie was starting. This theater should be a place that myself and others around the community support without question, with the current management of the Magic Johnson's theater my family and I will have to enjoy movies at the AMC theater on 86th instead. As a former employee of Cineplex Odeon I was ashamed at the customer service provided by this theater!

I wasnt allowed to see my movie as an A-List member because I didnt have my ID. I had a picture of my ID but was told that wasnt valid, they needed a hard copy. As an A-List member that pays for it monthly, that should have been enough. I mean, it was me.. I ended up missing my movie as a paying customer because they didnt want to accept the version of my ID that I showed at 10 PM? They need to lighten up on that a bit. Especially later in the day like that. I pay for it after all.

My favorite theater. It's best if you get your tickets online first but the lines are not that long really. I've been going here for a long time and I haven't found anything to complain about. You can grab a bite to eat nearby. I love the wall of historic actors as you walk in.

nice theater but if it was not kept clean i felt my skin sticking to the arm rest and now i remember how the inside of my gym sneakers smell in a theater looks like the rugs have not been cleaned for years it needs upkeep. The people behind the counter need a course in customer care, only one guy stood out older guy of course he served 3 people and smiled while every young person served one with a sad and upset look on them lol. not the beat experience

A couple of months ago, I went to see “Black Klans Man” in Theater 8. When I stepped foot in the theater, it smelled like urine that has probably been sitting around for days. The whole theater was lit up. Last night, I went to see “Us”, the 7pm show in theater 1. This time, the theatre wasn’t clean and as I was watching the movie, a mouse was running throughout the entire theater. Then, I went to the restroom and the restroom looked filthy. Tissue all over the floor and stains on the toilet. Soap was hardly coming out. And popcorn was on the restroom floor. This may be the last time I go to this location.

They have assigned seating nd those self serve soda machines with a million options. My suggestions: Buy tickets online so you can skip the lines nd on $6 tuesdays

My boyfriend and I went to catch a movie here. The screen failed and we had to wait for over 30 minutes, but still didn't work and they cancelled. Good thing is, we were refunded in full, and given 2 extra tickets to watch a movie of our choice at our convenient time. We couldn't stay angry. Lol. That was awesome.

I love this place so much. It's one of my favorites because they have recliner chairs, it's very big, it's a nice place, and the workers are very kind. I strongly recommend this movie theatre.

3.8 actually. The place itself has nothing fancy. It's clean and nice. The personal is cool but can be slow or too busy at times. I liked it each time I went there. The arcades though...sucks and some are no longer properly working taking your coins .

First AMC theater I ever have gone to that is so filthy. And this was everywhere, the concetional stand, bathroom, cinema. I felt uncomfortable just seating at my seat. the armrests where all sticky. I had to get some napkins and clean them up my self. Ask an employee about the filth everywhere and he responded "we don't have time for insignificant things " I gave it two starts only because as most AMC theaters the layout and decor is very nice. But other than that the rest was horrible. I don't think I will ever go back to that theater unless they do a massive reform on how to keep a business clean.

Went last night to see Spider-Man (Animated joint centering Miles Morales) and it was pretty dope although they didn't have my favorite Salted Caramel Popcorn... (Addictive once you began to eat it.) The theater itself is surprisingly peaceful during the evening compared to how people claim how ratchet it can be. I'll give em 5 stars next time they have my Popcorn. Enjoy peeps!

Well...it USED TO BE a nice theater when it opened 20 years ago...not so much anymore. Concession stand actually TRIED charging me $6.52 for a SMALL cup of ice. No beverage. Just a cup of ICE. Option 2 was a bottle of Poland Spring water...$4.75!!! The counter person quoted these prices with a straight face.

The Movie was amazing!!! But the ladies bathroom is disgusting, the condiment station looked like it hadn't been clean in days. I was worried just to get my drink. I'm sorry but for someone who is a manager its very disappointing that such an amazing establishment looked that bad. The workers looked miserable and the service was slow. Never again.

I liked this movie theater very very much. I went during the early hours, and it was my first time. I like the location firstly, because it seems like everything is so close. The theaters are big and the staff is friendly. I did like all of the decorations that were in there. Seeing the old movies posted all around made me excited to watch my movie. It was really big and did take me long to get to my theater. Nothing major tho.

This theater is surprisingly good for an AMC. Some showrooms are not excellent but are usually clean and reasonable comfortable. The Dolby showroom is pretty good.
