You will be able to see all the reviews of real people who purchase the services and products of Cinema Detroit (Movie Theater) near Michigan.
At present this business gets a rating of 4.7 over 5 and this rating is based on 229 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is almost the best one, and it's founded on a very high number of reviews, so we can think that the evaluation is very credible. If many people have bothered to leave their review when they've done well, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to place scores when these are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Movie Theater is included in the category of Movie theater.
Love this place, small but comfortable seating and good popcorn.
This is a great little place to see movies the bigger theatres don't show. Make sure to get there early to grab a comfy seat as busier shows may end up using folding chairs
Great
This is a great, independent, local theater that consistently shows an excellent mix of Hollywood, indie and art films, along with being a host venue for a number film festivals and other events. The auditoriums are small and have a cool industrial look. Image and quality are very good even without Dolby Atmos, Laser Projectors or other modern film presentation gimmicks. Prices are reasonable and the seats are comfortable though not entirely connected to the floor. My only complaint would be that there's no slope to the floor so if someone tall sits in front of you or if you're short, seeing the complete screen can be hard. The trade off, though, is that the front row is the best place to sit unlike in other theaters.
Great movies!
Great atmosphere and service.
...the most personable, down-home, hip experience since it was a Picture Show.
I’ve visited this establishment many times. I’ve dealt with the most uncomfortable seats in the world, the terrible sound affect, just this past winter a day after big snow fall there parking lot wasn’t cleaned of the snow Then finally this Sunday 10/01/17 Iwent to see the 530 Columbus movie and it was showing in the tiny screening room. The noise was so loud from the other theater you clearly hear it in The screening room. I went and said something to the owner (glasses semi bald guy) he said he would turn the sound down. He never did. Sound level was still the same. When the movie got out I complained to his wife Blond Hair Glasses about why he didn’t lower the noise. She rolled her eyes at me and said he did and was telling me something about the sound level this high dialogue this high, talking to me like a little child rolling her eyes. Weird thing is this doesn’t happen at The Michigan Theater or Main Art where you hear noises from the other theater. I didn’t enjoy the movie because of the noise and the owners weren’t concerned about my complaints they roll their eye’s at you and lie to you. I’ve spent my last dime at this dump.
Love this indy theater....it is quite charming & quaint
Well kept theater - never have any issues with booking , getting seats and everyone is very friendly.
Why buy tickets online if there going to sell the seat you bought anyway?
One of my favorite spots to see a movie
Small independent theater with great seats, sound and popcorn. Only thing that could be better would be adding an adult beverage.
Really cool indie arthouse theater. Single screen, small and cozy. Feels like if Mom and Pop opened a movie theater.
Creative, unusual and friendly venue. Affordable tickets.
Attended the short film showing for the FREEP film festival. Like the free adjacent parking and friendly staff. If you are short, suggest sitting near the front as the seating is all in the same plane.
Wierd, in a good way. Not the greatest seats or screen. But nothing new for an art theater.
Great folks, I love the feeling of this space, it’s a memory of the Martha Washington in Hamtramck ! The popcorn is really good, with Fargo pop.
The movies are great, but bring a blanket in the winter because you are going to get COLD.
Movies in Detroit.
I ain't been there yet but on my way tonight to see GET OUT!
The screening room we were in sat about 16 on a variety of couches and chairs. Obviously building still being worked on but bathroom was nice, it was clean and comfortable, price was terrific and snacks were very good. Probably not the place to see the next Star Wars, but was very comfortable and staff were great. Has off-street parking lot too.
One of the best movie houses in the area!
Intimate and low key vibe. Perfect spot to actually take in current blockbusters without the crowds.
Not fancy. Good theater will excellent selection of films
Fine, intimate artsy cinema. We were at the space for a premiere. I helped set it up and it was perfect and comfortable for the hundred people attending.
Excellent small theater. Super friendly staff, great location and overall great experience.
A kind of mom and pop art house theater showing smaller movies, not your blockbuster summer movies, but still very good. They serve soft drinks and ginger beer. Near the college campus in Detroit.
This a great little place to go to the movies. If you wanted to take a date to the movies I'd say this is a much better idea than going to AMC it some other giant chain, unless you are seeing some super special effects film like Star Wars. Great atmosphere, great spot pretty close to some good dining options. Staff was really friendly. I went for Rocky Horror Picture so it was also fun throwing things indoors and yelling at the screen. Definitely will be going back with some friends.
This was my best experience with a theater and I had a few... two beautiful projection rooms, a great service and a free pool in the boy's room... what else could you ask for? Nothing, that's right you dingus! So go!
Great little theatre. Very intimate. I like how they added the newer seats. This is my main theatre. I live the fund they choose to show there. VERY cheap concessions also. Go, you will be very pleased you did.
Love this neighborhood theater! Cozy and intimate with a good variety of films.
This is my favorite place to see movies
Friendly clean neighborhhood theatre. Intimate atmosphere.
Wonderful enviorment and great popcorn
Detroit's go-to spot for art films and foreign films. I enjoy the casual atmosphere and comfortable screening rooms. Ample, free parking is an unexpected benny given the midtown location. We parked there the other night to catch "Microbe et Gasoil" and then strolled over to the Jolly Pumpkin for truffle fries and beer.
Great place, great staff, great events!
Friendly staff, limited selection due to size of theater but they always have something interesting screening
Awesome little indie theater in Detroit. They actually sell candy for a reasonable price. Who would have imagined in 2019. They only show a couple films at a time, but if you like indie films, you'll assuredly want to enjoy them at this quaint theater.
I'm glad this place is here in Detroit. We need more places like it.
More people should come here
This place is awesome! The owner is extremely kind and it was a very comfortable atmosphere.
Very cool art house
Nice place
(Translated by Google) Very good selection of movies. It needs cleaning. A lot of dust everywhere. (Original) Muy buena selección de películas. Necesita limpieza. Mucho polvo por todos lados.
They call him Morgan was a great film.
Great films. Great staff.
It was great i will be back
Awesome small art house cinema
Fantastic local theatre in Midtown. All the best indie movies at a reasonable price. They serve popcorn, Faygo and varied candy snacks. Recommend seeing a film here if you’re in the area for the day or night.
I really enjoy seeing movies here. The theater is small which makes for intimate viewings. The showings are typically independent films or documentaries. I've heard people complain about the seating, but it hasn't bothered me. I also like that the concessions are more reasonably priced than traditional theaters and you can get LaCroix or gingerbeer as a beverage.
Tired of big box cinema? Quaint theater, comfortable intimate seating. Parking on site. Old films. New films. Adventure awaits you. Great restaurants in the area. A wonderful evening with friends.
The best little art house in Metro Detroit. They seem committed to honoring local film makers as well as indie films that might not make it to big screens. The small theatre and rooms make the movie-going experience more intimate and immersing and the owners are almost always there helping with snacks and tickets. It's definitely a place dedicated to the art of film rather than making money which I appreciate. Would recommend to anyone!
It was amqzing
Great little theatre. I always sip a can of Faygo red pop during the movie.
Had a blast at the Rocky Horror Picture Show showing.
Really cozy theater with good prices. I was able to get two tickets, a large popcorn, and 2 la croix and I didn’t feel like I was spending a fortune.
Only been once but really enjoyed!
This is a local independent cinema full of character and charm. Prices were reasonable and I would definitely go there again. Not a crazy crowded place - very low key and fun.
Very special movie theater, small and intimate. Movies are exclusively shown here. Clean friendly environment.
Small, art house cinema in Midtown. We were in the screening room for our movie, where the seats are a hodgepodge of vintage sofas and chairs. Picture quality is pretty good; the screening room could use some more soundproofing.
We need more Indy places like this!!!
Has a geniune neighborhood feel, a freshing change from branded boredom
Very intimate theatre with couches and small rooms.
Paula and Tim are the best! Great movie opening for 'Tiempo Compartido' with special guest Sebastián Hofmann...
great staff, cutting edge cinema, cool location
I just went there and it was an amazing experience!!! I took my high school AP class to see a documentary and they loved the atmosphere. The staff was amazing!! I will definitely be taking my classes back to see other documentaries.
Clean
Quaint theatre to catch a movie not far from home.
Good movies shown by good people. So glad they are in Detroit.
Cozy theater right in my neighbor hood.. first run films and superb popcorn!
Very unique, repurposed space. They have two screens. The bigger one is what you would most want to view something on as the sound can bleed into the other room.
Like paying to watch a movie in someone's living room. I'm glad they're showing the movies they're showing, but I could hear all the sound from the other theater.
Super cute and quaint indie theater. The staff was really nice and they had Faygo and reasonably priced concessions- always a plus! Hope to be back soon.
Intimacy, reminds me of the good old days when my mental capacity could flourish! The stone walls, part of the Wayne State campus. Very charming!!!
1 popcorn,drink and ticket cost 45 dollers
Nice place! It was refreshing to stay in town an see a movie and there only 9 bucks.
The theater operates out of an old elementary school in the Cass corridor. Good movies. A cool, eclectic, hipster experience if you're into that
We had a great time at the dog-friendly showing of Isle of Dogs! Fun event, friendly staff, great movie and snack prices! Will definitely be back:
Great small theatre with small films larger theatres dont usually show.
Great venue for independent artists.
It's what an art-house cinema should be: cozy but not polished, great programming, friendly owners, and an audience that appreciates movies.
This indie theatre has a great selection of films and reasonably priced concessions. They may not have the state of the art equipment but the seating is comfortable and they're super friendly. If a film is playing here I'd choose it over any big name theatre.
Unfortunately, there is a real problem with the sound quality. There is insufficient sound proofing in each theatre so you can clearly hear other movies playing next door which is way too distracting and ruins the experience. It makes you not want to return and drive all the way out to Royal Oak instead. It’s really too bad because everything else is great for an indie theatre and I’d rather support the small guys. The last time I visited was in August 2019 so I may try it again and hopefully be able to give a better review.
Love it yo
My favorite place for independent films. A Detroit institution!
Good local movie house. Need to tune the sound in the auditorium for better vocal quality.
An excellent alternative theater.
Interstellar Experience compared to traditional theatre.. heavy rains blackened the grid.. yet the show was ready. The Live Score and talented band ready.. the godfather of vampire movies.. LOVE. Support art and this place
Not at all what I expected, but it was a really enjoyable experience! We saw a movie in the smaller theater, seats for maybe 16-20 people? We sat on one of the couches and it felt like watching a movie in a nice home theater. Picture quality and audio were better than expected. Great prices and concessions and friendly staff. I was also happy about the parking lot, it was easy to just pull up and go right in. We can’t wait to go back!
Cozy, locally owned-feel Cinema. I went for Rocky horror picture show. They offered really good prop bags. They sold good snacks/drinks - no alcoholic beverages though. Staff was nice :)
Cinema Detroit has moved to 4126 Third Street
Great neighborhood theater. Clean bathrooms. Great snacks. Friendly staff.
A very strange arts oriented movie theater.
Its like watching movies at home. The vibe is cool. I like the choice of movies.
Good movies nice folks nothing fancy
I was really excited to check this place out. Ticket prices were reasonable, concessions were cheap and tasty, and it seemed like it was just a cool place to see a movie. HOWEVER, before the movie started (Us, 2019), we [the entire audience] could very clearly hear what must have been another theater, someone blaring their TV, or something like that. The movie started and this noise clearly was not going away. Understandably, I could hear multiple groups of people complaining about it and a few folks got up within the first few minutes of the movie to go ask about it. They all came back more upset than before. From what I could overhear, there was apparently nothing that could be done about the noise. I mean, it was legitimately LOUD. A film like Us is one that uses silence very well and strategically; however, all the theater could hear during those quiet moments was Investigation Discovery (or some other true crime show... from what I could tell). I was really disappointed. The theater desperately needs more soundproofing. It has brick walls, hard ceilings, and concrete floors. Very little acoustic damping or general insulation anywhere. Based on other reviews, it seems that our experience was unusual, but I definitely will not return until they've addressed the issue.
Nice start up theater venue. It's no Star Theater and that's a good thing.
One of the only theaters in Detroit that shows watchable movies.
I ok ok
If you've never been here, what are you waiting for? There is no place like this. Wonderful staff & great selection of films & events. Local businesses like this deserve our support.
Always a fun time...
The Best Indie Theater. Period!
Everything was great the movie was clear the sound perfect the selection wear outstanding popcorn great parking great love love love this cinema you should come
Pretty decent art house. Popcorn is made to order (so expect to wait a bit). Sound is awful - no center channel. Seats are in great condition - I’d say close to new, but it’s traditional seating, meaning if you sit in any row aside from the first 3-5 front rows, viewing the screen is horrible. No sound proofing or dampening on the walls, ceiling, or floor. This is as art house as they come. Staff was lovely.
I took both of my daughters and son-in-law to see Donnie Darko. We all loved the unique atmosphere of the theater with the exposed brick, and the comfort of the genuine theater-style seating. There is a cool lounge area near the concessions (which were super affordable, BTW), and it was a nice place to sit for a few after the film. Apparently, a couple from the area owns and runs the theater themselves, and from what I can tell, they are doing an excellent job. We will definitely be back! (Hopefully for Rocky Horror later this month!)
Went with my son to see Combat Obscura, the venue and the movie made a great treat for both of us. Some of the upcoming movies looked really interesting, I think I would go back to see them. Definitely out of the norm. Total Detroit feel to it in that it isn't gentrified and speaks to the artistic movement that started the positive growth. Good to see and be part of that.
A Detroit gem. Large theatre room and a small intimate theater Reasonable concession prices.
Amazing venue! Was our first visit there and we absolutely loved it. Comfortable and eclectic. Can't wait for our next visit! Saw the new "Lizzie" movie; highly recommended.
I really enjoyed my self I will come back again
It's the only full-time, seven-days-a-week cinema in Detroit proper!
This is a great place to see a film. The audience is always made up of polite, serious filmgoers. Friendly staff. Parking right outside the door. Support this gem!
When you go in, you need to remember small art house-style theater. The seating is a mix of couch, living chairs and kitchen chairs. There isn't a huge selection at the concessions stand, but the prices aren't outlandish, and there are some uniquely Detroit features on offer.
Was a nice theater Private and comfortable friendly staff
Intimate setting
Indie venue for indie films! Gracious and accommodating staff, comfortable seating and "healthier" snacking options than your traditional theatre. Support this great Detroit business!
Maybe the best place in SE Michigan to see Rocky Horror Picture Show!
Great place to see arthouse movies and documentaries
Two friends and I saw Loving here on Friday 12/15. We loved the movie and the Cinema Detroit experience. We are all residents of Midtown and live right around the corner. It's great to have such a unique theater so close by. It was our first visit, but we have made plans to come back again and again.
Comfortable friendly staff
Very intimate! Friendly, courteous staff
Go see a movie and support indie film!
Great theatre but it be dirty in there.
Great location and movie selection. Wish I had started going to this theater earlier. I can't wait to check out the sun dance film festival week.
What a lovely gem right in the heart of the city! Who says you can't see a movie in Detroit. Love it and I will be back.
