REVIEWS OF Coolidge Corner Theatre IN Massachusetts

Anthony Vickers

So much fun! Eclectic. Tasty soda. Beer and wine. Awesome movie selections. If you're a film buff or a movie theater buff definitely join their members club.

W Barber

Improved over last decade or so. Main piece of that is helpful, personable staff. I'm sure there is a lot of turnover w people selling tickets, working concessions...btw, not typical movie theater food. So maybe the real change has been in management, setting tone.

Maddie Conway

One of my favorite places to go see a movie. Their concessions are great, good selections of natural sodas, beer & wine, popcorn, candy, and even ice cream. Their email list is worth it to be on, to find out weekly what's playing. I make it a point to come here and always have a great experience, whether it's seeing a new film or rewatching an old classic on the big screen. Easy parking in the Centre St lot behind the theater (up to 4 hrs and free after 8PM/on Sundays), and plenty of places to grab a bite before or after the show in Coolidge Corner.

J Hoffman

My favorite theater in the area. It's an old building and worth going once just to see the old architecture. Plus, they play films you won't find most places (foreign and older movies are common)

Chris Heald

Cool little screening room with about 50 seats.

Cecile Braun-Jones

Great independent theater that deserves your support. Great movie selection and you'll be seated in the gorgeous art deco theaters that take your experience to the next level.

Small theater but the quality is great. They have full concessions and it feels a bit like being in a big living room.

Ellie Guerm

I've only been to this theater once and I loved it. Very authentic old-school experience: you can imagine how your grandparents and parents used to see the movies. Very good selection of films too. Will certainly come back.

Alyx Harper

Awesome, small theater that features screenings from beloved films and serves wine & beer! Lines can wrap around the building for single screenings of films, but don't let that deter you! Once the theater opens getting inside is a breeze, and the drink/ snack lines move quickly. Great for groups of friends or a fun date. Love this place.

Matthew Keithley

Another great independent theatre. Always showing something interesting.

You might see first run movies. You'll always see first rate movies. A classic old neighborhood theater, painted ceilings intact, that serves real butter on their popcorn. All viewing rooms feel intimate, even the largest; a place you can bring your out-of-town friends and family for a fun experience.

Great theater showing good eclectic movies... a pillar of the community

Laura Bergheim

Love this vintage art house theater with so many films and events on tap that you can see something new every day (sometimes multiple times a day). Circa 1933, they celebrate their roots with vintage refreshment promos and more. What's not to love?

Eric Cheng

Nice old school theatre. The seats aren’t any of those new recliner seats but they show pretty unique movies that you can’t find elsewhere so it’s worth it.

Sarah Bohannon

Really cool theatre with great concessions and amazing ambiance. Favorite detail: they're nonprofit, so all shows begin with a simple slideshow of future offerings and one or two previews. Shows start right on time. Be sure to check times and call ahead for tickets, as they often sell out.

Jeff Wachter

A neighborhood (and regional) gem in the heart of Coolidge Corner/Brookline. A beautiful old movie theater. The main theater space has great historic detail. The programming is always diverse, well thought out, and very well done. I love the events where a live band/musician "scores" a film. The kid events have been a huge hit. Midnight movies are always fun and they still bring through all the current films as well. Happy to be a member and support such a great institution.

Mike Hart

I love this theatre! From the snazzy interior to the comfortable seats, the unadorned movie viewing experience is a joy itself. But wait, there are wonderful accoutrements to enhance the experience. Would you like a draft beer from a selection of several craft taps to enjoy during the show? Here you can flaunt puritan tradition and scandalously imbibe while gathered in public! Would you like your popcorn buttered with actual butter instead of butter flavored soy oil? Gotcha covered. Would you like to see some of cinema's classic back catalog? Here it is. Would you like to see some off the beaten path modern films alongside the regular blockbusters? You've found the spot. Enjoy.

Old style theater in the heart of Coolidge Corner. I love the vintage showings! They play a great collection of new, old, and unique films. I would recommend joining and becoming a member for the special events benefits you get.

Nathan Marshall

This theatre harkens back to the days where, you went to see a movie, you sat in a palace. Not some dark auditorium where vested teenagers sweep popcorn from sticky aisles. This place has class, it has personality, and the Coolidge Corner Theatre is a wonderful place to spend an evening.

Richard Adams

Great little theatre, that shows a lot of independent movies. On Wednesday, seniors and disabled, can see a movie before 4 o'clock for 6 dollars. Off st. parking. And behind theatre, meter parking.

Claire B

Fun atmosphere with other movie goers. Tiny theatre rooms that make it hard to see small screen.

xiaoyu chen

Classic spot for indie films. Always a good selection and sometimes there are special events. Selection of alcohol is a bonus!

Bobby Haskell

My favorite local theater. Amazing environment with history. I try to make it to as many events as I can.

Jenny Masterson

Magical movie Mecca! The staff are fantastic and the schedule is crammed with an array of genres, from classic cults to new independents. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Svetlana Vinogradova

Best theater in the area

Emma Sutter

Despite it's age, this theatre has charm, great staff, and awesome films. Can get busy. Being a member is very worth it.

This is a cool and unique little spot. It's tucked away in a cute area with tons of fun shops and eateries.

Matt Dursin

Amazing place to watch movies, old and new!

Annmarie O'Toole

Exquisite, remodeled old time cinema. Just a gorgeous place to go. Many special events, raising $$ for the upkeep of this Treasure in Coolidge Corner. If you haven't been, then go. A great experience.

Nicole Pesce

Always a great experience! The theater is beautiful and the movie selections from the past are great! The "After Midnight" movies are really fun. Great date spot!

Art Deco and Mr. Rogers. Does it get better than this?

Humza Jafferji

Cool theater. Definitely worth a visit to watch a movie or any of the other events they have there.

it was an honor to photograph Johnny Depp on the red carpet of Black Mass...thank you Coolidge!!

Camilla Sutter

Great old cinema, beautifully kept up. Love that they show all of the independent movies along with some old classics and an occasional new hit. Even better, they have a great bar for wine and beer (allowed in the theater) and really good candies and chocolate. This is a wonderful place and a big part of our community. Membership is easy and gets us into almost everything free. And where else can you see all of the Oscar nominated shorts?

Colby Peterson

It's the best.

Marjorie Keyser

i wish i didn't have to post a "negative review" as I've lived in the neighborhood for years and always thought highly of this cool art deco indy theater. But I had a really bad experience with a few ticket sellers. I was so psyched to see Echo In the Canyon a few weeks ago. But when I got upstairs, the "Gold " Theatre was almost full with only seats in the front row. To me, that is not at ALL a comfortable seat for watching a film - way too close! I left almost immediately and explained. My ticket was refunded, albeit with a dismissive scowl.. A few weeks later (tonight) I noticed that there was no record of the refund on my bank statement. I'd kept the refund receipt, so I returned to your theatre and asked about it. Apparently I was mistaken and the ticket was refunded. (The transaction wasn't recorded, and that's why I was mistaken.. honest mistake) . The thing is, I really think your ticket vendors should be aware when the theatre is so full that seating like that is all that is available - I mean i had no idea it was a tiny theatre that would be full like that - I would not have spent 14 bucks for that. I did let the one of your ticket sellers know that this is how I felt. He said something like "we don't know what seats are left, there were seats, and all we can do is refund you if you don't like it. People sit in those (front row) seats all the time.." I'm pretty surprised that this is so.. It seems unreasonable to me, but I guess you don't think so. Agree to disagree.. The thing of it is, the ticket seller was arrogant and condescending. And I'm not someone who complains often, and I am polite. If he had maybe just said something like "I'm sorry it didn't work for you..", or showed even a little bit of interest or care, I wouldn't feel like I have to sit here and write this now lengthy remark. At all. I mean this is the first time Ive done this. But he made me feel badly. Coolidge Corner Theater is so well regarded and interesting and cool. But that doesn't mean your staff is above treating patrons kindly and with respect. I feel like some of them feel that they are. The guy who I talked to probably thinks he was perfectly nice, and the girl sitting next to him, who glared at me as well. Arrogant people often do feel blameless. They're so into themselves they don't see the person who is talking to them.. I get that they have to sell a lot of tickets quickly, maybe he was tired... It just left me with a bad feeling, it really did. I hope you will take note of this. I mean you get tons of great reviews.. I'm one of the many people who have (up until now) often sung your praises I hope my bad feelings go away and I'll want to go to another film there (Ive been to films before and it was all good).

A.J. Golash

Cute, well- preserved relic with a variety of movie & entertainment offerings, both mainstream and arthouse.

Great place to go. I live in CT though only about an hour away so I'll come early explore Brookline, watch my movie and spend the night. Prices are good and has a nice selection of beer (both normal and craft), drinks and snacks (some of which you can get chilled). Anyways fun place to go, nice looking theater as well.

Anya Zakiewicz

A very nice old theater, not too hard to get to by car. Parking lot close by, a few coffee shops and other eateries close to theater to grab a bite. Snacks a bit high priced, but not higher than the average theater. Very good selection of films. Comfortable stadium seating. Rest room could use cleaning. Service could be a little friendlier, but over all pleasant.

Susan Stange

Love my local non profit movie theater. Old fashion nostalgic comfort showing first run independent films.

Owen Quilty

After seen the movies of the seaport with all the luxury it's a little tough to be cramped in an old old almost a 100 year old theater

Kim Grzybala

This is my favorite theater in the Boston area. They have great programming in a fantastically restored theatre. I especially love the theaters with the small seating options. They have the basically arm chairs instead of the classic squeaky seat.

Lenek Adams

The Coolidge Corner Theater is a legendary facility. It has a number of screens ranging from the grand theater from the Golden Age of films to intimate and casual screens with a dozen or two seats. While some mainstream films are presented, there are so many more from indie sources that would never be seen in the Boston area without the Coolidge. Even though some of the facility is well worn, it is imbued with a history that can't be acquired, but has to be lived, as the Coolidge and its patrons have done. Good discounts, online ticketing and a pretty good snack bar only adds to its charm.

Alex Reganata .

What! A great movie theater, I got the chance to enjoy one of the best creme sodas I've had while watching "Once Upon A Time in Hollywood". Anyways - go to this theater!

Sean Burns

Incredibly cute theater, with reasonable prices (for Boston) and friendly staff

PunkAndOtherStuff -

Great intimate theater and comfortable space

Rune Koldborg Jensen

What a fantastic gem of a cinema. The people working there seem to care about the movies, the main cinema is absolutely beautiful, the old-fashioned spots before the film gets you in the mood perfectly, no commecercials, just two trailers and the movie starts. Looking at their program, they also screens amazing classic movies and have cool events. This would be one of the main reasons to revisit Boston!

Samuel Markwell

Great old theater. Lots of history, unique viewings, cool staff.

Madlene Hamilton

This is a charming movie theater in the space of and old classic performance theater. Very cute.

Taylor Smith

Beautiful old theater

Brittany From Boston

Great independent theatre - love going there! Good selection of new and classic movies, fairly priced tickets, good snack selection with local treats. They also do fun community events. The Coolidge is a must-do in Boston!

Mario Lozano

It's a throwback to how movie theatres used to be. It was refreshing. Quaint and Cozy. Great ambiance n aesthetic. Showing movies you won't/can't see anywhere else.

Dan Maude

Old movies. New movies.

Rebecca Dunham

Fantastic selection of films. Great people. "Big Screen Classics", "NT Live", 70mm special events, and more!! Popcorn with real butter. Beer and wine. What's not to love?

Mary O'Connell

Perfect space for WBUR sponsored screening of the moving and sobering documentary Chasing Coral.

Hunter Feeney

A beautiful theater, with a unique and charming decor and atmosphere. Theater sizes range from standard, large, and smaller ones with a more intimate and unique viewing expirence. Shows a variety of films : underlooked, indie/foreign, 'mainstream' and older films. Best theater I've attended

Boris Efroimskiy

One of my favorite movie theaters in Boston- great selection of foreign and independent films

Sean Griffin

Great experience. Reminds how much the old school theater seats suuuuuuck! Plan on bringing the kids to show them all the nostalgia and how good they have it!

Laura Spencer

Amazing atmosphere and service.

Pamela Sorrell

Wonderful subtitled films.

Liam LaMountain

Awesome all around

Emma Yeager

Great movie selection

Susie Foster

Great theater! Wide variety of films and great concessions plus a bar.. what more could you want?

Joyce The Voice

Great theater.

Spitfire Fitness

Saw Dunkirk here. Picture and sound were absolutely incredible. The decor creates a beautiful and fun atmosphere. I'm addicted! I can't go back to new theatres anymore. Plus Coolidge Corner Theatre plays the classics. I can't say enough good things!

Stephen Lafko

Awesome

chi zhang

So surprised that they didn’t have the Avengers on their list......

Michel Hilani

Great theater! Shows movies that are not necessarily very "mainstream" which is nice.

Marissa Farmer

Absolutely gorgeous theater with a lot of heart and wonderful variety of movies and events.

Ed M

Love science on screen . They always have great guess speakers to relate the science to the movies.

Jennifer Rajaseharan

Very cute lil theatre. The picture quality was pretty good.

Alex Linne

You can' t go wrong seeing a film here. One of the few theaters I'll attend despite them not accepting my MoviePass. In particular, if you have the chance to see a 70mm presentation here... DO IT. The projectionist spoke for a few minutes to the audience I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey with, and it was wonderful. I also love being able to get a fully decent cup of coffee for two bucks before I sit down for a show. If I could give 4.8 stars I would, merely because they don't refill large popcorn containers... :/

Toilet Brush

Small cute place. They have beverage and pop corn, restrooms on every floor, movie is on time. Parking available

Lucas .

The best movie going experience in boston. Try the beers!

Lacy Berman

Gorgeous arthouse cinema with classic and Indy films.

Marie Campbell

Gorgeous theater. Excellent films! Great staff!

Jonathan Erdman

They clearly seek to distinguish themselves as a theatre that serves the community as well as their own artistic interests. That's a lofty goal that they can claim to accomplish more often than not.

Gideon Coltof

Awesome, beautiful art deco theater showing art house, classic, and cult classics. Check it out!

Mike S

Watch your midnight movies here! Great classics shown regularly ON FILM! They also have new releases, but the best thing is seeing a movie in a theater that came out before you were born.

Alexander Taylor

Very classy joint. Upon entering you'll get a feel for the homey, retro-styled non-profit organization that runs it. Different counters sell popcorn and other snacks, and wine, beer, and cider. The screens range from large to small, with seating areas sized accordingly. If you're seeing a less popular picture, assume you will be in a smaller room with a smaller projection screen. The smallest of these could be called cozy, but the seats are comfortable and patrons tend to be more respectful than patrons you'll find at big chain movie theaters. The theater has capability to show 70mm film in beautiful detail. The movie selection is above average. They have series with different them - old Kung Fu movies, old sci-fi, documentaries, classic films, and newer fare. Tickets available online for some showings.

Juan Castillo

Classic Movie Theatre for people who are there to focus on the movie!

Benjamin Engelhardt

Best theatre in Boston proper

Emily Z

So cute and cozy! I want to come to the movies here all the time!

Monique Zasi

Enjoyable movie about Luciano Pavarotti very interesting

Alex Reganata

Matthew Bufalo

Went here to see a movie that wasn't playing in any other theaters. I loved the charm of this place. They have a good selection of indie films.

Evie Conkling

Get tix online or at door. So friendly, they let us swap our pre paid tickets for an earlier show when we arrvd early. Good selection of indie shows & classics in clean comfy theaters. Costs more than big chain theaters, but worth it to support a local enterprise & see a quality new or vintage film. They also offer talks on film history & craft.

Riccardo Panella

The perfect place for any movie lover!! Very nice lineup, not just the usual commercial movie theater, people here know and love movie and you can tell from their selection. Very very very recommend (ps the location is astonishing!!)

Tyler Condon

Great vintage cinema complete with all the red velvet trimmings of yesteryear that shows both classic and modern movies. Check the calendar for movies you won't see on the big screen anywhere else.

Tony leahy

One of the best theaters in the city. The staff is super friendly, and the place oozing with charm. They have great programs and play some of the best cult classics in during their after midnight program. One of the few places in the city that has the ability to play movies in 70mm film. Grab a slice and a beer at Otto, then catch a great movie at the Coolidge!

Eduardo Caminos

Nice theaters. Good environment, but seating in the small theaters are kind of hard to get out of. Still good though.

Idella C.

Love this local, independent movie house. The room I was in had 27 seats. Prices are reasonable at the concession stand. Parking can be tight especially on Thursdays when the farmer's market is operating.

Ameya Hate

Good looking vintage theatre. They play classic movies here. Check the schedule!

Michael Collins

Always a great movie going experience.

doug mayo-wells

The main room is large and gorgeous, the second largest theater is also pretty big. Great concessions (good beer, wine, sodas, real butter on the popcorn). Great place for small run new releases and eclectic repertory.

Ellen Stein

It's one of my favorite places but it's not for everybody.... I don't think young people go there

Jennifer Mulready

Great Little throwback theatre with an eclectic collection of movies they show.

Elizabeth Trainor

I love the Coolidge Corner Theater for both the experience of sitting in a beautiful theatre as well as the opportunity to see independent films.

Scott

One of the last remaining old-time independent movie houses, lovingly restored and curated. Love going there. Make a night of it in Coolidge Corner...lots of great cafes, restaurants, and shopping options!

Eugene Trainor

Ambience. Good movies. Excellent refreshments and a pleasant and knowledgeable staff.

Ian Charold Herriott

One of my favorite places to watch a movie, anywhere.

Richie J

This place is awesome!!

cat wu

Really wanted to like it, but it is so not worthy for $14 for the quality of screening, sounding, and seating. Same price I can get much better quality in any other theaters. They only have two "big" auditoriums, the others are tiny like living room sizes. And the seats are very tight and uncomfortable.

Joseph Michela

This theater is fantastic! Every year they have a showing of Jaws. People dress up, there are contests for most permanent scar; it's a marvelous time. Coolidge Corner Theater works hard to stay engaged in the community they serve. Instead of giant summer blockbusters and any garbage film that Hollywood pushes out, they show the meaningful films that have something to say. They have after show discussions. Go here. Watch great films. Spend a little on good beer and popcorn. CCT is an institution worth preserving and supporting.

Jake Green

Best theatre in Boston. They host fun events and movie series. Great for a date night especially if the movie you're seeing is in the historic movie house #1.

Peter

Classic old school theatre. A good mix of new and old movies. They have midnight showing every weekend. A must for any movie nerd.

Chris Gerry

Wonderful independent theater with great concessions!

Emilia Brasil

Great movie! Small room, very small.

Faith Girdler

One of the only 2 classic theaters left in Boston! AND the ONLY fully restored Art Deco theater , certainly in MA, maybe all of New England!! The only place I can also see classic films with a LIVE audience... remember that??

Samuel Mushnick

A very nice little alternative theater located in a unique part of Brookline

Lixue Tu

Loved their free kids booster seats there.
