This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Movie theater.
An intimate, small movie theater with a couple of screens. They show more arts films as well as National Theater Live.
Bad movie
Wonderful venue for movies, excellent membership benefits, terrific local self-promotion videos . All around terrific.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about Amherst Cinema. This is my absolute all time favourite place to see movies. Not only is every movie they show here interesting, but the special events are the cherry on top. There truly is something for everybody here. The theatre itself may look small, but inside it doesn't feel cramped or anything. There's plenty of room to stretch out and the seats are really comfortable. All in all, like I said, if I could choose where to see a movie, I choose here.
Small local venue with off beat and major motion picture films
Excellent venue for fine films
Student discounts on Tuesdays!
Top cinema in the area
A delightful movie theatre with a nice selection of food & beverage options. "The Farewell" - a beautiful.family story of a Chinese family based on an actual lie. A heartfelt reminder of the strength & quirkiness we all share in our families.
Great small film theater
Really small theater. I had to sit in the front row but the seats are comfortable.
Looking for good foreign horror? AC has you covered.
Great movie theater
A great selection of films, quality snacks, and non-profit! Amherst Cinema is always a providing a great movie going experience, while also giving back to the community in many ways. A big fan of the smaller theaters and comfy seats!
nice theater, good movies. keep art alive.
Great small theatre!
Good movies.
really cute little theatre. comfy seats and good prices. I want to go back there to see a movie, the screens were alot smaller than most theatres and I thought it was really nice. it felt a little more cozy. but this may not be for everyone. I think it's a very unique nice theatre though. love the old building as well.
Great films, friendly staff, Woodstar Café molasses cookies, wine, beer, Italian sodas, jazz documentaries...it's a gem!
A special kind of theater. Real butter on the popcorn. Yeah, it's like that. They show films that other movie theaters won't. Very interesting.
Great indie theater showing current releases and classics alike - loved going for the events and special screenings. Tickets are priced very reasonably too!
Great Cinema!!!! Every female on the planet needs to see RBG, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who formed the rights that women have today. She has been working on our behalf for 5 decades. Cinema Fla up quickly. They let you in 20 minutes prior to showing.
LOVE this theatre. They always have a great selection of films. Small screening rooms with super comfortable seats.
Great member-supported, independent, movie theatre. Always amazing selection of movies.
Pro: Movies and concessions are great. Con: The "Storage Room Theater" or whatever they call it, of a theater is lame. It should be 1/2 the price of a regular ticket. Con: I don't know if the Cinema has a pre-movie reminder to shut off phones, but they seriously might want to consider reminding people that there are other people who paid 10 bucks to see the film too. Maybe it's an Amherst thing? Either way...Um, like you're not in your living room. Shut up and watch the film people!!
If there's a small distribution or foreign film that I'm looking forward to seeing, I can rest assured Amherst Cinema will pick that sucker up upon release. Added perks: craft beer available; large, comfortable auditoriums, festivals and screenings of older/cult films.
We love this theater--truly excellent art house, university-community space.
I am so glad that Amherst has this extraordinary cinema with wonderful selection of new and classic art house films at very reasonable prices.
Amazing independent movie theater with several screens and nice curated selection of recent independent and international films. Regular special screenings, speakers and unique programs. (plus excellent popcorn, microbrews and other concession goodies.)

This is a great art house. A couple of extra small rooms for really small files, and some large ones for typical art films. Great snacks, good teas. Warning: If you're coming for something "popular", come early: thing sell out, and you can also get a bad seat.
My fiance and I went to see the blackkklansman and the movie theater how to diversity of patrons the staff was very helpful and got us both in as we are disabled
In general I have really enjoyed this theater. They play movies you won't see playing at Cinemark, and have a concession stand with coffee, tea and tasty baked goods. Last night was a disappointment, though. After my wife and I got our tickets we couldn't find the theater our movie was in, and were informed it was in the studio theater which is a short walk from the main building. As it turns out, this "theater" is about the size of a broom closet with probably 30 chairs packed in front of a little screen. We couldn't get seats together which would obviously really put a damper on date night. I wanted a refund, but couldn't get one, so I took the only option, which was a credit for future tickets. I don't think that people should be expected to pay the regular full-price for a ticket when it is such a substandard experience compared to the main theater. I certainly won't make that mistake again.
Great! Small town cinema
I enjoy the indipendent and foreign films they play at this cinema!
Nice selection of independent, sometimes mind-altering films. Great community resource!
Great place to see a movie. Good sight lines. Staff friendly and helpful. Good alcohol and food selection. Prices reasonable. If you like typical cotton candy mainstream movies you'll be disappointed. If you like thought provoking indie movies, this is the place for you.
The Amherst Cinema usually has a great unique selection of films that differ from mainstream movie theaters.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Pleasant staff members as well.
Great place as it shows the more indie movies and every frday they show a cult classic which are always nice to watch in the big screen. Also excepts MoviePass.
Excellent for small indies and dramas.
Great Indi and art move theater it's clean the seats are comfortable and the staff great. My family goes there on average once a week to see all the top Indi movies. This theater is such a great asset to western massachusetts and the community ,so please check out a movie and support this theater.
Great American in Paris yet older Stadium seating
Downtown theatre showing less run of the mill films, like Met Live on Screen. Yummy popcorn too!
Great small movie theater with a wide array of films and on screen performances at all times of day. Comfortable seats, the usual snacks as well as beer available. Only the studio theater is a bit small so I try to avoid that one.
Interesting movies in a great small theater right in down town Amherst
Great local movie theater. A gem in downtown Amherst.
Great indie movies!
Great little theater specializing in Indie and art movies. Yearly membership is reasonably priced.
Well curated selection of films. As always food and booze served here pricey but that’s why our maker gave us brains: flasks, and nips. Always film specials or festivals present. It’s not cinemark +1
Good indie movies here. Nice experience.
I've been coming here for years and prefer it over any Cinema/theater in our area. We love the nutritional yeast option too! I'd recommend Amherst Cinema to anyone :)
Great independent cinema
Great films come through here, the staff is always delightful, and I enjoy the smaller and cozier theaters.
Very nice movie selection
I have only watched two movies here in the past 6 years. The screen is small and cannot compete with the new IMAX theatres. They do lay independent movies and documentaries that are cool. A lot of older population goes to this cinema hall.
If you're trying to see the latest superhero movie keep going down the road to the Hampshire Mall. If, on the other hand, you're hoping to watch something a bit quirkier, a little more heartfelt, or just downright weird you've come to the right place. Grab a late night coffee or cocktail at Amherst Coffee afterwards for a perfect date night.
So glad this place exists! I go several times a week for their first run films and oldies. Theaters are a bit cozy but they are very clean and comfortable and they have the best concessions I’ve had. Keep up the good work!
Awesome movie theater. They choose good films, the Audio Visuals are good, and the prices are fair. What more do you need?
I would love to try them out sometime does it does look nice on the outside and I have been inside to the lobby but they never have anything I wanna watch
Good cinema, but you can't enjoy the latest movies
Love the movies that the Amherst Cinema play and the cozy atmosphere!
Great movie selection.
What a wonderful theater! Unique screenings and really good popcorn!
A gem of a theater.
Amherst Cinema is an incredible non profit spot to catch independent films. The snack bar has a surprisingly expansive selection of vegan options and a great beer selection as well.
The Wife was very enjoyable and emotional.
Great movie selections, customer service, and concessions.
Cute Cinema. Great atmosphere. Fabulous movie watching experience. Yummy snacks
Great local theater. Small stadium style seating. You have to go in understanding the scale. The screens are smaller than you are used to but because of the small number of seats and stadium layout you get the same experience as a modern sized theater. Also you can buy adult beverages. This theater runs movies that are hard to see elsewhere. I have waited four years to see "Sorry to Bother You" and Amherst Cinema made it possible for me.
Great films, friendly location, interesting community work and dialogues with film directors - and a great pizza joint ( Antonios) nearby for after or before as well as many other good finer ding options. Thanks for re- creating this place after years of effort!!!
My ideal cinema size. Not too big☺☺
Spending summer in Umass internship, loving the Art Cinema, recommend to all.
Great selection of films
A little pricy, sometimes a little tight but wow do they show great movies
Great movies and even greater popcorn
A good cinema that has a great selection of films. I liked the varied offerings at the snack bar which featured old favorites and goodies that you dont usually see like coffee.
It's one of the old style cinemas, which plays various non mainstream movies. If you love some old style cinema, which keeps the ethics of art alive, this is the place to go to.

Delightful evening, as always!
Nice and small great place to watch a movie and prices are descent
RGB great film!
Best theatre and staff ever! Always incredible films and great popcorn and snacks.
Love it!
Staff always friendly. Everyone should be a member...great movies!
Movie Was excellent. Beer was warm. Staff was Cold. The Saturday evening crowd was sparse. A non profit looking to gain corporate sponsors should educate staff to wear a smile.
Absolutely wonderful place. Clean, good snacks, family atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Always enjoy this venue.
Good movies and concessions
I love the amherst cinema! they're always showing current indie films and also provide a diverse selection of cult classics. i would definitely recommend going, a true amherst staple!
Only arts theater around. Fine establishment.
The best cinema in New England
Always great film picks. The theaters are small, so get there early otherwise you may not get to sit next to your friends!
Great independent movie theater
Great independent cinema showing unique movies
My favorite movie theater ever! Great selection, great service. I love it.
It was the warmest movie theater i have ever been in..not great in July
wonderful, great films!
Great movies
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh yess poetic cinema
We love this cinema. In addition to the kinds of movies we want to see, the venue offers a very friendly staff, delicious snacks, clean and attractive theaters, and cultural events. We make the 45 minute drive to the cinema as much for the unique experience as for the films.
I am not much of a movie person, but I love coming to the Amherst Cinema. The movies that they show are great and the facility is very comfortable and inviting. We just became members and encourage others to join.
Local theater a walk from my friends house. I had an excellent time and saw a very cool movie.
Best documentary venue in western ma. A real treat at great prices.
An amazing theater with great movie selection and tasty, more natural popcorn! I just wish you still had a small theater in Northampton as well.
Experience quality kino and film unlike in a commercial cinemas theater
Beautiful little place.. excellent staff!
Nice theatre and screen; stiff seats
It's a nice, intimate theater, they show great films, but it is almost always crowded and packed. Most people arrive annoyingly early to save seats and what is left typically causes damage to either neck or vision. However, for many movies I want to see, this is the only option in the valley.
Awesome selection-- they're always bringing films I never thought I'd get to see in the cinema, like Kiarostami's stuff, and The Farewell!! So glad this place exists here in Amherst. popcorn is delicious too!
We always trust that offered film's are worth seeing.

This place has tons of character. Great foreign and indie movies with great themes.
Saw the story of ths Slits here. Really cool choices for movies. Great snacks too. Wine available. And gluten free cookies!
Beer, popcorn, and an indie movie, perfect.
Best. Movies Ever.
Lovely theater and staff.
Cool little indie theater
Amazing movies all the time, good snacks, rare and amusing previews and ads.
Very nice theatre.. small and homey, does not play big ticket movies, just B ones.. Very good for documentaries and such.. They also sell beer and wine which is awesome, and yes the usual candy and popcorn..
How the future movie theater will look like ...
Great movie choices
Great atmosphere
Aretha! Amazing! Grace!
I only wish they did their summer series' year round. Fabulous local cinema. Go to Amherst coffee after to talk about the films :)
Great staff and food selections, though not a lot of leg room for tall people!
Amherst Cinema is the only theater In Western Massachusetts where I can find the award winning cultural movies.
This place is one of the best things about the valley. They show stuff you can't see anywhere else and also have great membership perks and events.
nice tiny theater
Right in the middle of Amherst, this theatre has a great selection.
The perfect escape. Great film selection.
They show the films that you can't see anywhere else
Always has good movies compared to ciemark. Plus they serve alcohol.
Amherst Cinema is fantastic! I'm able to see the best movies and I can walk there from my apt. The customer service is always phenomenal and they serve cider, wine and beer! My kinda place!
One of the few movie theaters (in the area) that is still privately owned! Shows a lot of different films and documentaries you cannot find in other theaters.
Great place to see movies that you won't find at the major chains. Give yourself a little extra time to find parking. Popcorn with real butter! Cookies, drinks, what's not to love about this theatre? Get yourself a membership and save some $ on tickets!
Great movies, welcoming ambience, and beer and wine available at the concession stand. What do you want more?
This independent theater has great selection of new movies and special presentations!
Inconvenient sequel, Truth to power
Perfect conditions to see a film: view never blocked (important for short people!), good sound, comfortable seats. And there is almost always something playing that I want to see. One of the best things about the Northampton-Amherst-Easthampton area.
An exemplary local, member supported and operated independent cinema!
Great local theater with first run indie films, wonderful revivals, and occasional lecture series
A little far for me, but one of the few places to show quality movies. Pleasant well informed staff.
Great place to see non-mainstream movies.
Comfortable seating. Great staff.
Great small films and film events. Worthy of support. A gem.
Best art house cinema in the Valley. Locally owned, great staff and always a good selection of movies. Membership is a good deal too
If you want to see the really GOOD films - you know, the indies, documentaries, animation, and vintage movies - this is where you want to go. If you're a cinefile, and you're in Amherst, MA, check it out. The theaters are small, so keep that in mind when going, as seating may be at a premium. Be early, even if you buy your tickets online.
Never have the movies I want for long. But applaud their iniative to be arts cinema in valley
Small, intimate theater setting, comfortable seating.
Great staff, will be going back
Wonderful theater with a fabulous selection of films. Great concessions, amazing staff and beer & wine. Worth a special trip.
This is such a great place to see all kinds of movies (or films, if you prefer ;). They serve wine, beer, coffee & Italian sodas; popcorn, baked goods & candy. I'm not crazy about the separate studio theater, but the regular auditoria are very comfortable.
Wonderful alternative to Hollywood.
Cute place.
We are members of this lovely theater. Just enjoyed Victoria & Abdul.
A gem in downtown Amherst that should be treasured.
Like the small theatre
A theater with a rapidly rotating selection of both blockbuster titles and the lesser know or local films, they offer a great membership program that gives discounts on tickets and concessions.
Thank you for keeping film alive and thriving! You guys have the best selection, the best classics, and the overall best movie experience in this area. Cheers! B
