REVIEWS OF The Senator Theatre IN Maryland

Faith Lucas

Very nice clean and the employees are very friendly

Lydia DaCosta

My first time at The Senator, it was WONDERFUL! I purchased food from Clark Burger (located inside theater) and the burger

Roni Richards

It was dirty and smelly. The drinks were watered down. But they had seats where every other cinema was sold out so...there's that.

Annette Hayden

Love this place can go there and relax and it's quiet that's a big difference thank you love it

Lemuel Dominguez

This is the place you want to go when the blockbusters come out. The crowd in the main theater really gets into it, which is always fun. They play older movies here on occasion; check the website for info. Beautiful theater with an old-timey feel.

Ben W.

Great theater!

Carl Butler

I've been coming here since I was a kid. Now I bring my kids. Great theater.

William Bracone

Always been a favorite movie theater since my days at Tows on.usually gets first run films shown on big screen. Old fashioned movie going experience. Worth a trip.

Kyle Wili

Best theater and best crowds every time

Nichele Belton

I like the location but they could include more food menu options. I understand they need to keep the theater nostalgic but I would prefer newer seating.

Clark Miller

Best theater in Baltimore if the show you want is on the main screen. Other screens are not worth it. Shockingly reasonable popcorn prices ($5ish? Is that reasonable these days?) And beer and wine to boot.

Jennifer McClure

Historic! Main theater is beautiful, the other screens are small. Small alcohol bar inside, or can take in drinks from Clark Burger next door!

Sue Tyre

Beautiful old theater...have only been there twice but a wonderful experience both times...

Jamie Suthard

Beautiful theater! Definitely worth seeing any movie in the main theater!

Frank Williams

Offers a good variety of classic, new, and independent films. They also allow food from Clark's Burgers which is phenomenal.

Christa O'Connor

Saw a one time viewing of a documentary. Really nice staff. Lovely old building. Safe area

CDiane Thompson

Love this theater!! In my neighborhood and a treasure

Michelle Kistner

Best old time large theater! Ahh but sorry, no reclining seats

Rob Washington

Nice location, very intimate and a pleasant environment.

shanika cole

The theater is nice and have a vintage look, the service was so so and the concession stand didn't have much to offer but they do have a bar lounge with top shell liquor and beer

Kaitlin Konecke

Beautiful, historic theater.

Marc Alcarese

One of the highest quality theaters in Maryland. It has specific seating for eating. It allows alcohol and food from it's neighboring restaurant. It also has the most comfortable chairs in any theater I've been in.

Daiselle Hobbs

I'm very excited about my visit to the Senator theater. I'm also glad that it's in my neighborhood. Just a walk away.

Jamison Ousley

Baltimore has a lot of spaces like this that have unfortunately been allowed to fall into disrepair over the years, but the Senator is a lone holdout. It has a great oldtime feel, but also a rewards program and all modern amenities. You can also have beer and wine without the occasionally unruly audiences you encounter at the megaplex. It's a cinephile's paradise. They also do revivals of classic movies pretty frequently.

Clyde Tilmon

I really enjoyed myself and for it to be so close to my house. There are plenty of places to eat around there the movies are up to date and it's real easy to get to by car or public transportation.

Karen Oakjones

There are always tickets available to the latest shows, it's nostalgic, great places around to eat. So much nicer than the mall!

Derryck Holston

Great, historic theater with it's own flavor! Enjoyed It!

Eugene GEINZER

My favorite movie theatre in Baltimore. The Senator shows the latest and the more exotic off-beat films. Never close again!

Debbie Boeren

There's no better place to see a movie! Biggest screen around!

Kristina Peles

Great atmosphere for affordable show tickets and few crowds

Elisheba Gonzalez

It's clean, comfortable & nostalgic...We didn't do the concession stand but I hear it's pretty decent.

Henry Farkas

Nice movie theater. Street parking. Good popcorn.

Omar Assadi

The Senator is a dope little art deco theater opened in the 30s. The interior is beautiful with the original floors and murals, rainbow prisms in the ceiling, and exterior lighting. Seating visibility is mediocre at best. Fortunately I am 196cm/6'5" so I was the monster ruining other people's time instead of vice versa. The actual chairs themselves, though, are comfortable and I had no issue sitting for hours on end. The screens are also large and beautiful. Also, for what it's worth, the crowd who tends to show up there is definitely a more interactive one than what I am used to here in Russia. Don't be surprised if if people cheer or laugh. Honestly, though, it's a good time all around; initially, I watched Black Panther here and I know it is a movie that I would not have enjoyed had it not been for the amazing crowd watching with me.

Anne Kennedy

Convenient to northern Baltimore showing both movies and film.

Crystal Spence

Watch it's a wonderful Life here over the holidays and love everything about the experience

Stephanie Klima

Beautiful historical theater that shows new as well as vintage special shows like The Breakfast Club recently. Limited parking but worth it. Have been going for decades. Will always go here.

Tim Stuples

Top notch all the way

Mathew Ridge

The senator is a great place! I much prefer the main theater over the secondary one but still great viewing for a good price

Dave Taylor

Just the best place to see anything on the big screen. This restored Art-Deco theater has private balconies for parties, fresh made popcorn, beer for some showings, and a cool restaurant next door that serves poutine ! Keep an eye out for special showings of classic movies. Watching 'Back to the Future II" on the date that Marty goes to in the future was extra special, as was taking the kids to see the original Planet of the Apes in full 70mm glory!

Marqia Holland

I love going here! The only downfall is parking especially when it’s a popular movie playing. But Clark Burger is right next to it and you can take the food inside the movies with you.

fatimah steffanoff

Love the cozy and nostalgic feel to this place. Friendly staff and that local business feel

Shirlee Rucker

I was very impressed as to how the main theater looked, very nice with a antique look.

Jim Turner

Such a cool theatre with great history.

Laurie Brown

Good theatre. Serves alcohol.

Kayla Garner

Love that this theater is small and still reasonably priced. It's our go-to, as it is close to home. The great architecture is a bonus!

C. Woody Butler

Great place to watch a movie, nice seats, lovely big screen and the best sound in town. Good popcorn too. The people that own it take good care of it. They have some fun old movies too, in addition to the first runs.

Jeffrey Raymond

Lots of good places around Baltimore to see a movie, but nothing like the big screen at The Senator.

Kang Zheng

A very nice renovated theater.

Fr. Martin Burnham

How can you not love a classic theatre that shows current released films? The Senator is my go to place to see any current films. This is the way going to see a movie should feel. Thanks for keeping this gem up and running!

Nice atmosphere, vintage movie theater. The new owners kept the details of the original theater .especially in the main auditorium and lounge/restrooms

derrick Odoms

In walking distance from my house, theater is always clean and comfortable.

Menhefen Rasberry

Great theater with classic atmosphere and the best matinee ticket prices.

myles poland

Great theater.

Jared Thomson

Where have you been all my life? Classic style theater with an incredible main theater and weekend bar inside. Definitely call ahead to see what is playing in the big theater.

Dominickolas Walters

It's a nice old theater, but not as great as I remembered. Its big screen is not as big as White Marsh. Parking is across the street but not clearly marked. It does not compare favorably to the uptown theater in DC. Monday pricing is a very good.

Jordan Prichard

Clean, fairly priced for a none chain and keeps up with latest movies as well as can be done witb 3 theaters. They have a sybiotic relationship with clarkburger next door that really plays to the atmosphere. My only mild complain is that due to its historical construction if your not main theater, it is rather tight space for a theater.

Elisabeth Budd

Nice large space where they offer alcohol. Plenty of seats to pick from but limited movies and small lobby with dreadful parking. Get there early enough to park!

Kathleen Souvertjis

A great setting to watch new movies in an authentic old fashioned cinema . Thank you community for saving this great work of art .

Ethan McNary

Really classy feel to it. I am always excited to see my favorite movies on their huge screen!

Lynn Holthaus

Great old school theatre. The large viewing screen is awesome. Ladies lounge is so retro-love it.

Colin Freas

The Senator is easily the best place to see a film within probably hundreds of miles of the theater. Only The Uptown in DC comes close. Reasonable prices on everything, easy enough street parking (but pay attention to the signage!) Snacks are old school movie standards: popcorn, candy & soda. You can get drinks and food at Clark Burger next door though. Make sure the movie you want to see is on the big screen and don't bother seeing anything on the small screens here. Check it out while you can. Places like this are always in danger of disappearing.

Travis Laird

My wife and I bought tickets for Marvel Infinity Wars, planning on taking my 6 year old son. After we bought the tickets online we spoke to a friend who told us the violence and content for this particular film might be too much for our son. 30 minutes before the start time I went up to the theater and explained my dilemma to the manager Andreas (sp?)... He was very polite and gave us passes to see another show. This made our night! We're going to see the movie tomorrow, without our son, and judge for ourselves if he can handle it. If so, we'll all go together as a family next weekend. So instead of 3 ticket sales, the Senator will get 5 because of their great customer service! This is my favorite theater in all of Baltimore! Thanks again Andreas (sp?), you rock!

Gregg Palmer

It's a great theater. Seats are great picture is large and a great sound system. The staff could use a bit of people skills. The person selling the tickets looked like he really didn't want to be at work. The person selling popcorn was far from friendly. Such a task working the snack bar. The ceiling in the main theater could use a bit of tlc. So sorry to see it showing a bit of neglect.

Peter Wayner

Amazing theater with a big, big screen.

Denise SmithWilliams

Always been a nice theater.

Dolly Phoenix

Historic theater, wonderful staff, love this place!

travis taylor

AMAZING service and dope place to see a movie

chester Frazier

Our favorite movie theater. Classic art Nouveau.

Nathan Allen

Very cool theater in a great part of town. They also appear to screen classic flicks regularly.

Joe O'Brien

Projector broke halfway thru a 3 hour movie. They gave refunds but I'll have to sit thru the first 1.5 hours again now. And I won't be doing it at the Senator.

Matt Cushwa

Great sound, great history, big screen in the main theater, beer and cocktails available, tray tables I'm back of main theater.

Adam Goodwin

The theater is huge! Which means great for showing up right before show time on opening night and still getting a decent(ish) seat. Plus there's a bar!

Whitney Novak

Great to know that this lovely old theater will be around for years to come. Saw a show in one of the smaller added theaters and there was some sound bleed from the main theater in quiet moments, probably also because the main feature was a musical, but the smaller theaters are comfortable and the selection is superb. Service was also friendly.

Kausik Datta

Local movie theater with Ye Olde Worlde charm.

Delana Gregg

We had a wonderful time seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark (on the big screen, so cool). The staff were INCREDIBLY attentive and helpful. My 7 year old daughter had a bad cough, and they helped up find a pharmacy, volunteered to get her hot tea, and settled on allowing us to watch the film from a small room where we wouldn't disturb the other patrons. My hats off to the Senator Theatre staff and manager. Thank you for a fabulous experience and such a beautiful landmark.

Declanmaura Angela

Small but very neat and has a welcoming environment

Josh Marx

Amazing classic theater with ornate ceiling and inexpensive snacks!

Beth Allen

First: you can get a craft beer & burger here. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, comfy seats, and stellar sound. Plus they're into hosting events for the neighborhood. Love.

So, I went to enjoy a nice time at the cinema with my daughter, Emily. Originally I was enjoying my experience especially when they allowed me to bring my Bush’s pork and beans into the theater. After, enjoying a nice Honest Tea brand unsweetend tea, I obviously had to take a wee. However, after entering the Gentlemen’s lounge and walking to the urinal, I found 3 separate pubic hairs lying on the urinal. So I proceeded to scoot over to the next urinal. There I found 7 PUBIC HAIRS on the urinal. And finally when I went over to the THIRD URINAL there were more PUBIC HAIRS. So then I had to demasculate myself and PEE SITTING DOWN ON THE TOILET. This experience really grounded my gears.

Quinton Spratt

A great place to catch a movie while experiencing the best of Baltimore!

john brooks

Helpful friendly staff, glad it's still here, very nice movie experience, I keep coming back

Charlotte Minor

I love the Senator. Very safe area awesome staff movies are always first run. See you guys very soon

Frank Henry

There is no better place anywhere to see a film than The Senator. The Parkway is great too but nothing beats the big screen at The Senator.

Frank Gunzburg

Reminds me, somewhat, of the charm theaters used to possess. Friendly staff. Good aura.

Dave Mason

Great theatre. Better and less expensive than the other ones out there.

truelyfe2

Pretty good theater with a bar. If you want food tho you have to get it from next door which they work hand in hand together.

Ashton Menefee

The main theatre is the best and the other theatres nice, certainly better than the small Charles theatres. Just a nice place and neighborhood to have dinner or drinks and see a movie. The concession stand is lacking a bit but adequate. A much nicer atmosphere than the big theatre chains and a step above tiny art house theatres.

Denise Huthmacher

Cool historic theater. The main theater is cool but the smaller ones are odd. I would only go there for the main feature. I would recommend checking this place out.

Tom Rutigliano

Classic deco era big screen theatre.

Richard Herbert

Classic movie theatre. Has a great Art deco design. It cost alot less to see a first run movie than any other theatre in the area. Food and drink is cheap as well. The screen is huge and the sound system is great.

derrick Odoms

In walking distance from my house, theater is always clean and comfortable.

Classic deco era big screen theatre.

Anne Haddad

Beautifully restored historic theater that includes some revival films and special events, as well as first-run blockbusters.

Dustin Thomas

Every time we go, we have a great experience. They put on a spectacle for big weekends. Eating Clark burger in the back during a movie is one of my favorite experiences and a great date night.

Carol Peterson

So happy I've finally come to the Senator. Loved the old Hollywood decor, bar and architectural details. Will definitely come back.

Zach Cloyd

This isn't your humdrum Regal or Hoyts. It's a classic style theater. They show new and lesser known films, as well as classics and special interest peices. The price of a ticket is worth seeing a film in this historic location.

ObzedatM!ST!K

It can be chaotic when the doors open and everyone is lined up, but otherwise a fantastic movie theater with all the newest movies and some blockbuster throwbacks now and then.

Tyler Gaines

It was a pleasure to be in such a comfortable place.

Darby Pelton

By far the coolest movie theatre around! Beautiful and ornate with a bar

Liz Hauck

Beautiful, comfy, elegant, great staff. Always a pleasure. Pretty much the only theater I want to go to any more.

Kelly Gray

very cool how the renovated this theater from the 1930s - but yet still kept so much of it the same! already can't wait to go back !!

Preston Davis

Not bad. Good sound. Good view of screen. Ample parking but you have to hunt a bit. A bit chilly for me close to the entrance (back seats) of theater. Good eats nearby. Would visit again.

Tracey G

Despite the higher prices of the movie tickets, I love coming to this historical theatre. The staff is always friendly. The theaters are clean. The seats are plush. The popcorn is delicious.

Kathy McAuliffe

Nice theater, nice employees, comfortable seats, good sound system, nice neighborhood. Highly recommend this historic place

Eric Adams

Theater is a bit dated at this point. Prices are fair for both tickets and concession. A unique experience visiting the theater itself but its presentation can't compete with the amenities of modern theatres.

Jason Ritterstein

The iconic Senator... a piece of Baltimore history and still a great place to catch a flick.

Marvin Mason II

The experience is greater then the actual accommodations. The theater is old and nostalgic at best, which works to its advantage. It has artwork that recall the cities history. The seats variance of size and staggering could be a little off putting to people accustomed to more modern theaters. They are smaller, a reflection of a time where people packed on less pounds. The quality of the screens and projectors is below average and everytime i saw the rainbow like banding in the corner when the projector could match a gradient I noticed. But the intamacy of the theater and its all over personality made it forgivable. The staff was friendly and accomadating. The theater gets some indie and award season selections so keep it in mind for those times.

Bill Poulsen

Akways love this place, especially the big screen in the main theatre. Very reasonably priced refreshments and great staff. This is a historic theatre, a must visit.

Karen Lancaster

I love the Senator. Lots of choices of movies to see. Old world atmosphere. Friendly staff. Clean. Great bathrooms!

Love this little theatre! It has the old time vibe which is super cute, and serves alcohol which is absolutely brilliant IMO. The only time I prefer a newer theatre is for action movies, where you can tell the difference in sound quality. But every other movie is made more awesome/authentic by the senator!

danielle lohan

Excellent theater that is somehow always empty!

alicesbeloved .

A historic grande movie theatre alnost similar to the days when The Hippodrome was a movie theatre (downtown). Miss the theatrical curtains, and yes the screen is still grande...but not quite as. ------- But in practical terms: took my nephew to see " The Predator " ( my rating for movie: C+, so it passes but not quite an A or even B. My nephew & I still enjoyed watching)----- the air conditioning was not sufficient, the sound was too low & definitely Not theatre like probably due to lack of sufficient volume, and seems like a seating upgrade is past due. So yeah: Movie Theatre quality kinda flunked. Not to mention: No fresh popped popcorn?

Michael Garvin

A beautiful place to see movies

Reggie Shaw

Great old school Cinema black panther was a hit there

Selena Schreyer

It's a classic place to see some of the most loved films! I always love goin here especially on a rainy or snowy day it's very comforting.

Jerome Quickley

Love this theater! Spacious, great experience all around!

Paul Ranger

Great older theatre. Multiple screens and a cool vibe. A refreshing change from the flashy multiplex

Piper Watson

Another great local movie theater - pretty nice renovation, decent prices, and GREAT that they formally connected to the burger place next door to offer in-theater service on the weekends I think?? Also, really good revival schedule!

Heidi Krumrey

What a great theater! There's a full bar inside. The theater holds tons of guests. They show old movies every week too. It's an old theater and is beautiful inside. I can't wait to see another pic there!

Basil Bradford

Convenient and a classic venue to view a movie. Compared with more modern theatres, the seating is an issue. Nevertheless, it is totally worth going.

Nia Patterson

Good theatre...Always have tickets for movies ! Snacks and drinks are good and cheap !

Nick Sheridan

Want to experience one of the grand old movie theaters with an ultra large screen, but with contemporary movies? This is the place

Richard Abraham

A throw back movie theater and my favorite in Baltimore

Carla Williams

I enjoy the whole experience

Scott Sokol

Terrific historical theater! Worth going to see tons of movies here. The atmosphere and ambience is cool! I wish they showed MORE independent, artsy, foreign films which I think they can accommodate given the four screens. Regardless, it’s still a tremendous theater!!

Katheryn Jennings

A great art deco theater in my neighborhood. The atmosphere provides a great movie watching experience. Also, the popcorn is delicious and affordable

Tracey G

Despite the higher prices of the movie tickets, I love coming to this historical theatre. The staff is always friendly. The theaters are clean. The seats are plush. The popcorn is delicious.

A Baltimore institution that strikes an important balance between blockbusters + key classics / deeper contemporary films. Wonderful main theater

Pre-ordered tickets, missed my showing, contacted them and they sent me tickets in the mail redeemable for any showing for the next year. I always liked this theater but they really went the extra mile here.

The Senator is a great old theater that hearkens back to a bygone era when movies were events to dress in your Sunday finest for. As such, the main theater is beautiful and antiquated, with an incredible amount of seating. The other plus side of The Senator is that, due to its larger amount of seats, it's not too hard to get into showings even of popular new releases. The downsides are predictable for such an old theater. The screen isn't as massive as you may be accustomed to with newer high-end theaters, the seats are not as comfortable, the sound system isn't as percussive, and there is no stadium seating. Regardless, you can't go wrong with a film at The Senator - a real experience.

dale olsen

Experiences may be good in the main theater, but the small ones are not as good as a TV.

Ron Samuels

Classic Theater venue in the heart of Baltimore's Govans community... Great intimate setting for first run movies...

Fernando Quijano III

Just like I remember, except less comfortable seating & fake butter

Tunisia W.B

Love the idea neighborhood theater. Saw black panther here but I also Love the reboots they have been showing.j ust took my son to see ET. They are playing Casablanca next week.. and you can bring g in food from the burger place next door..

Chazz Greene

Great old style theatre. A Baltimore landmarkm Try to see whatever's playing in the main theatre for the full experience

Blair Sullivan

Love this place, very cozy and reasonable prices.

Mark Stepney

I was in one of the small theaters next to the main one. We could hear the explosions from the main theater. Other than that it was a nice experience.

Susann Schemm

Been going here for many years. Love the renovations. The main theatre is a fabulous reminder of its history

latanya gordon

Great movie experience very kid friendly

Stephen Novak Jr

My New go to place for movies. Love the smaller theater experience. But, the big theater is magnificent

John D Benoit

Great ambiance. Historic theater.

Damenia Smith

Jessamyn Abel

Why wouldn’t you come to this amazing old theater? Great place to see a movie!

Aleishia Barber

Awesome old theatre. We loved it. Wanna go back as much as we can. Also the burger joint next door is good and has delicious boozy milkshakes.

laleh apollo

Best theater in town!!!

Delmar Smarr

First time there. Enjoy family time there

M Lillian

One of Baltimore's true gems!! Classic art deco movie theater with a box office out front and a beautiful lobby. I took the family to see Hidden Figures last Saturday. We arrived just as the movie was starting and were still able to get good seats. The way the screen is , I would not be worried about ever having a bad seat or view from the main auditorium. The popcorn and soda was tasty, not over priced... And I was even able to get a glass of wine for me to enjoy. The ladies powder room is HUGE, much like a hotel with a nice seating area. I would highly recommended it for a date night as there are several lovely restaurants within walking distance of the theater!!!

Alex Barron

Awesome vintage movie theater. It's always fun to catch a flick in the huge main theater, and they frequently show old classics so you can see them as they were meant to be seen. Side theaters can be slightly cramped.

Joe Fleischman

Got to see my favorite movie at my favorite theatre. Amazingly fun experience.

MARV V.

Love this place. This will be my regular local theater.

Anne Lansey

Always a pleasant experience

Adam Cornish

Always a great time! Lost my wallet and an associate helped me find it.

Matthew Wolfe

Great old traditional theater. Been going there to see new releases and have never been disappointed. There is a nice burger joint down the street which is amazing. Often many people bring the food into the theater and nobody bats an eye.

I'll Rise Forever

It was hot inside on the day that we went.

Louise Faire

Always a great experience.

Lin Romano

Historic theatre with updates for modern expectations. Nicer seats with decent risers so even those of us who are shorter have a chance to see the screen. Renovated restrooms and a bar to augment the regular concession stand beverages. Beautiful lobby, old-fashioned ticket booth, and easy area parking. Lots of nearby restaurants, too, if you want to make it a "dinner and a movie" night out.

Ebony Kenney

Clean, refreshment options, waiting was awkward in the lobby but the price was less expensive. Comfy.

Mark Kirschner

This is a wonderful old theater made Modern. Very clean and the staff very friendly.

Kathryn Fuller

Historic movie house with some updates. Enjoy the art deco design of the main screen area and lobby. Three smaller modern theatres have been added recently. It is a must see for any movie on the big screen in the main theatre. Comfortable seats, great sound system, and high film qualify.

Jock McClees

We saw Marigold Hotel 2 there last night with some friends. It wasn't in the main theater but still pretty sizeable. Not like some where you might as well be at home. We really liked the renovations. The lobby and foyer were always grand, but needed some TLC. Now they sparkle. Plus, they have added a small bar and in the main theater there are some seats with tables in the back. We ducked into the main theater. It been a while and we had forgotten how large it is. They have replaced all the seats and they are very comfortable. It is nice with the extra theaters there now because you have more choices of movies to see. We live nearby, which makes it convenient and we don't have to wait as long to see a movie we are interested in since more are playing.
