This Movie Theater belongs to the category of Movie theater.
A beautiful old theater that has interesting programming.
Up to date small theater with very friendly staff in a great little town.
Last time I went to the Greenbelt theater was 1975
Cute little place, love the unusual films they play here, things you can’t see anywhere else. The place is clean and the staff don’t seem very uptight.
Old stuff
Even though the movie we saw this past Saturday was in the "Pop Up" temporary location, I enjoyed seeing the original facade of the theater. Will definately go back to experience the renovated theater when completed. The temporary theater is probably not a great idea. Uncomfortable, not dark enough, felt like I was back in elementary school with no desktop to lay my head down.
Wonderful, great theatre!
Classic old movie theatre that plays documentaries, classics, arthouse, and family films. I've watched My Neighbor Totoro twice on different Miyazaki themed series, and this is probably the best place to introduce your family to the catbus.
My favorite movie & snack venue!
Restored Art-Deco classic movie theatre
this theatre is not just a theatre but an experience. They make a good effort to show good thoughtful films and the best of indie and foreign films in the area without charging an arm and a leg.
Great movie selection
A Greenbelt treasure. It just keeps getting better. We love the old films and family films. The concessions are great.
Only non-profit theatre in Maryland. Restored a few years back--just lovely. Relaxing atmosphere, wonderfully friendly staff, great popcorn, reasonably priced, thoughtful selection of movies. I believe they play animated children's movies at 1:00 on Thursdays (and maybe other days as well.
Great place for entertainment and good customer service
So this is a neat venue. opened 1938-39. not luxurious, then or now. but clean. a single screen in a large brick room, 4k digital and 35mm screenings. 6 speakers on the left& right, 4 in the back. some screenings free, others $6-8 (much cheaper than the 10-13 norm on this region). the snack bar and bathrooms are nicely done though simple art Deco. barely heated in winter, but clean and dry. the seats are like a 40s era public school. this is not a nice theater, but it is a neat theater, and besides being known for being old and in Greenbelt, it's mostly known for special events. ET 30th anniversary? I'd expect it here. archival films for a local event anniversary? here. otherwise top shelf films. there are other far nicer theatres in the region for special events (national gallery, AFI, every college, less so Atlas and Landmark-brand theaters), but each has its own editorial interests. Old Greenbelt should be on the film enthusiasts RADAR.
Classic movie theater very clean and big angled screen you don't see much any more. We loved it.
It's like going back in time.
Friendly staff and wonderful service.
Been there for years small but homey
Nice place, super cute. Not sure why I'm just discovering it now. The inside is very old school vintage vibe.
This place has a lot of character. Very reasonable prices on tickets and snacks and plenty of seating in the theatre.
Great theater in a great little neighborhood. Polite staff and a nice rotation of movies. Love this place!
The selection of movies shown at the OGT is great. As a member, I pay only $6.50 for Oscar level movies. My friends and I love this place. Easy to get to. Free parking. Great atmosphere.
Great old theatre...I am 67 years young and a theatre like this one reminds me of my childhood....friendly and caring staff!!! PS
Hidden gem
Love this Art Deco cinema but it is under renovation now. The pop up next door had a small and the seats uncomfortable.
Old-timey. Really good popcorn. Good movies. Totally dedicated to the movie experience. Staff are wonderful. Location is to be cherished.
A lovely restored theater, an ideal place to see a movie! They often feature special showings, so paying attention to their schedule is a must. Their prices for admission and condiments are lower than average.
I LOVE this place. Old-school feel and the nicest people. Great snacks. The hot chocolate is good! Old movies on the big screen are the BEST!
OGT is such a wonderful space! Renting the theatre out for a movie party with friends was an amazing experience! Would definitely do that again!
Nice place to eat or just to stay and chill. Big lake to walk around and very nice and clean park.
Awesome part of our community. Great staff and ambiance.
This is my favorite neighborhood theater.
We saw Mr. Holmes recently at the Old Greenbelt Theater. What a great time we had! The theater, recently renovated took all of us back to our youth and a simpler time of one theater, one movie. The new interior design is fantastic and the ambiance is small-town, traditional theater. Clearly the Old Greenbelt Theater is a gem and should be a destination for those who prefer tradition over modern, mega-plex buzz and light shows!
I love this theater! Excellent films mainstream, foreign, and independent. I can't think of a better theater anywhere.
Looks great with the remodel, it'll be even better when the seat upgrade is complete. Old school feel, friendly staff.
My favorite retro movie theater

Wonderful little movie house. Never change.
Great atmosphere , ambiance, it’s one of a kind!
Old school theater, no need to say more.
"The PROMISE" The Father, The Son, The CEO! A Phenomenal documentary Premier! A must see! A nice quaint independent theater in Old Greenbelt where anyone can host an event. There's plenty of parking. Been to other events there. Would definitely go back!
Wonderful restoration of this community-owned establishment.
The newly renovated and recently re-opened Old Greenbelt Theatre is a wonderful art deco theatre, and under the new management it's starting to become a lively community space. I attend screenings here about once a month, and volunteer there frequently. They've had a number of first-run independent films shown--Mr. Holmes and The End of the Tour most recently. And this is more than just a movie theater; they host post-screening Q&As with knowledgeable experts on the subjects of the film, invite community organizations to hold events in the space, and so much more. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they care deeply about your experience as a movie-goer. It feels like going over to a friend's house to watch a movie, not the anonymous experience of a multi-plex. While they've only been re-opened under the current management (a non-profit, community-based organization) for three months, I think we can expect great things from the Old Greenbelt Theatre in the coming year and beyond. If you're looking for a better movie going experience, you need to check it out.
I thought with the recent talks about a renovation and a grand re-opening that the insides of the theater would be clean. I was sorely mistaken. The theater itself does have a nice curved screen but it smelled like poodles. The seats were old plastic theater seats - some of them cracked- and not clean. There was dirt gathered in the cup holders. Really, it was just a week ago they had the re-opening; how can the seats and cup holders get that dirty in a week? The smell was so horrible, I almost left before the movie started. I have no idea what they renovated, but it wasn't the part of the theater anyone sees...
Very nice. Movie theatre is old and smelled bad
This movie theater is great. Has that classic feel and I hope it stays around for as long as possible.
Always a treat.
I love the Old Greenbelt Theater . Super movie selection, renovated theater and, most importantly, great snacks. A win-win-win for movie lovers.
Love the vintage style of the movie theater I love how they keep it super cool with the snacks that they sell and free movies for kids in the summertime
A great and quiet place to watch good movies
They should be good movies and it's a good place to take the family
I try to support this theatre whenever they're running a flick I wanna see. It's as old as the city its in... part of the community.
clean and beautiful place for night out with someone special.
Snacks!
Ols school fabulous clean amd friendly loved it
Loved the movie “Farewell” and the pop up was nice can’t wait for the reopening
The Old Greenbelt Theater is a hidden gem of the East Coast. Run by culture savants and haunted by the essences (and cardboard cutouts) of the Roosevelts, this place offers access to terrific films, educational programs, and yummy snacks. Don't miss out!
Great place.
Friendly service and a nice variety of films that other theatres don't show.
This is a classic art deco theater. It's a really great to see new and old movies in.
One of a kind theater. Huge screen, old time decor. It's going to be renovated in 2014, which will be nice. They often run classic movies and also have first-runs in the evenings. Great prices, great popcorn. Nice neighborhood with the New Deal Cafe right across the courtyard - free music and nice pub and Lebanese food! Go to the early show and then visit the Cafe.
I never been to this movie theater before cause didn't know they still have it in Greenbelt I've been to the one in Beltway plaza mall all the time I didn't know they play old movies.
A blast from tge past! I absolutely love the area, love the theater, and love their selection of movies! Went their to go see "The End of the Tour" and, aside from the little punk they had working the box office who acted like I was inconveniencing him by buying my ticket, it was a fantastic and lovely experience. I plan on frequenting and telling friends. Hopefully some staff is just summer help!
Nice
Excellent selection of movies, more thoughtful, less blockbuster. My favorite theater in the area.
Best community theatre in the area!

Love this beautiful 1930s retro theater!
An amazing local non-profit theater, run by amazing people.
Best local theatre ever!
A gem. A landmark. Concession stand has local treats. Prices much lower than at mainstream theaters. Awesome selection of films. Support. Enjoy.
Since the renovation and new management, this theater has become a gem in Greenbelt
I love this theatre! It's been restored and spiffed up nicely! They show wonderful films, old and new! Even documentaries sometimes. And the popcorn is excellent too!!
Awesome crew, superb historic movie theater and fantastic movie choices. We love the Old Greenbelt Movie Theater under the guidance of Caitlin McGrath!
Great theater. Beautiful large old fashioned and well maintained. Love seeing movies there!!
Loved the OGT! Looking forward to seeing more classics there! Amazing Grace was everything! Glad I brought my tissue box! It was soul stirring and the pop corn was bomb!
Better than any MultiPlex!
Wonderful historic movie theater
Great movies, great community service!
Best community-based, non-profit cinema in the area.
Piece of history Good preservation efforts Deserved a serious renovation and much better maintenance
I had a great time watching E.T. there!
I love the warm, friendly welcome, and the home town movie theatre feel from my childhood. I asked and there are over 300 seats...with places for wheelchairs...you can always find a good seat. I look forward every week to their listings. This is my new favorite movie theatre.
A beautiful old one-screen movie house, showing interesting first-run films at a reasonable price. The theater is a non-profit, and you can be a member and get significant discounts on admission as well as support independent film.
I just love it.....
I drive from Rockville regularly to come to this historic theater. First, it is located in a quaint community location, with park benches and friendly people. It has new first run films, the prices are cheaper, parking is free, concession prices reasonable. You do not need to get advance seating because it has 380 seats, a 40’ CinemaScope screen, and a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound system. Yes, the seats are old, but the films are good
The screen is big; the movie choices are excellent; the staff is friendly; and the coffee is Zekes What more could you ask for!
The way theater going should be!
I'm so glad to have this theater in Old Greenbelt!
Great local theater showing quality films and owned and operated by non-profit. Worth supporting. Good restaurants right next door.
It was nice and clean and the people were great.
A great place to see a movie, friendly staff.
Good selection of non Hollywood films.
My favorite place to go to the movies! The staff is always friendly and they show the best films!
Love this theater, clean and easy parking.
Has a big screen and they hold community events at the theatre
It’s the spatial restaurant, I love their french fries and hamburger
Love the historic feel I get there. Friendly Staff
Excellent projection & sound! And can't beat the price!
A lovely, restored 1938 non profit theater that chooses activities and films in a thoughtful and community building way.
The best non-profit movie theater in the area! And they also have very cool events now and then! Definitely recommend it. Plus, the whole community can't be cuter. Going to New Deal Cafe to have dinner and watching a movie Saturday night have already become a new routine for me. The staff are super friendly as well. LOVE WHAT THEY ARE DOING!
A very nice movie theater but the front seats are very near the screen not easy for a person to watch comfortable
I am obsessed with this theatre. It may be in need of some new seats as others have stated, but I think they are working on getting funding on that. For right now the new lobby and bathrooms are fantastic and beautiful! They have great concessions too. Gourmet popsicles? Zeke's Coffee? Local baked goods? It's like hitting up the farmer'a market on the way to the movie. I love it. Their movie selection is on point. With a mix of indies, family throwbacks and cult classics. I have seen Goonies, Princess Bride, Jurassic Park and Die Hard there! Plus resonable prices - no $15 tickets here! - and even free shows! To sum: The screen is huge, the people are nice, it's got a sweet movie selection and yummy food. You need to check this place out, if only because I want it to be around as my personal movie theatre for many many years to come.

Love this movie theatre. Lots of old-time charm and character. Wish I still lived close enough to visit it frequently.
Nice place to watch movie and food options are nice. Price is fair and they have many deals. Big screen good sound quality and nice seating arrangement.
Love the place
5 star rating.
What a great fun movie theater to attend or visit. An old style movie theater from the 30's. Big screen, art-deco concession stand. Viewed "The Women" (1939); great fun.
This is a hip and historic single-screen theatre with smart independent movie choices and lots of intelligent and fun community programming for all ages. And it's in a really cool ca. 1930s green Utopian community of Greenbelt. One of my favorite places of all time.
A smallish single screen community oriented theater. Plays mostly 2nd run and classic theater. Very nice atmosphere.
The theatre is old school and great for renting out for an event..staff are friendly and service oriented..bathrooms are very clean. Theatre could use a little refreshing but it functions just fine.
Very nice historic movie theater ! Friendly staff, plenty of seating.
I love this theatre, lots to do with kids. Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month there's Storytime on Screen a free event for kids hosted by Miss Nancy. If you're not familiar. Storytime starts at 10:30am-11:30am. Kids love receiving little boxes of free popcorn on entering. Nancy reads books projected onto the movie screen, there's a short movie that follows and a craft outside in the atrium During the summer for the no napping kids there's free movies on Thursdays at 1pm.
Really good antique movie theater. The place has great feels and is well maintained for it's age. The screening is good quality. It sometimes has really good, non-commercial movies on display, which is great. I went to some arranged by the UMD, it was good. Also their Ghibli series of movies were an awesome screening, especially for anome fans.
Fun little theater that is now undergoing a remodel!
The movie selection and staff are fantastic. For a theater with only one screen it manages to show more movies than I could imagine. Their various old film series throughout the year are a real treat, and it's right in the heart of Old Greenbelt. I love it. If you're in the area and looking for something to do for an afternoon check out what they're playing here. One side note: please serve nachos again. I miss them as part of my movie watching experience.
The city of Greenbelt and the Friends of Greenbelt Theatre have beautifully restored this lovely deco movie theatre from 1937. Big screen, delicious locally made snacks, and a mixture of new and classic movies. One of the beautiful old cinemas of the DC area.
Wonderful place to watch a movie.
A classic large-screen neighborhood theater.
This theater was renovated and opened with new management in 2015. They are doing a great job with first-run features, cult movie nights, family features on Saturday mornings, and special events!
I LOOOOOOVE this theater!!! It's a wonderful place to see first-run movies, old classics, children's shows, themed series such as Film Noir, Leading Ladies of the Screen, Stage on Screen (including David Suchet playing the leading lady in "Importance of Being Earnest" -- who knew?!). One of the best things about this theater is that often there is a guest speaker to introduce the film and give some background on it and to also lead a discussion afterwards. These are a special treat that enhance the movie experience even more. The variety and quality of the films shown is astounding for a one-screen theater. The concession stand has great choices, including a variety of more unusual snacks from local small businesses, and great popcorn with several choices of toppings, including Old Bay (YES!) Parking is easy, and there are several eateries in the same plaza as the theater, so you can easily grab a meal before or after the movie. Do yourself a favor and check out this hidden gem. You'll be so glad you did!
Pretty
It's not your average duburban movie theater. They show an intersting mix of indie films, art films, and foreign language films. If you're tired of the latest superhero movie being shown at the local multiplex, give the Old Greenbelt Theatre a try.
Nice neighborhood theatre that plays independent films
Historic. Great, obscure films.
Great local arthouse theater.
Awesome place real history
A wonderful historic single-screen movie house which opened in 1938. Beautiful Art Deco design with a classic theater marquee. A must see for movie lovers and those interested in local history. Recent renovations have really brought the space to life.
An absolute treasure! They engage with their community and value their customers. The classic theater vibe is charming and it's nice to sit in a theater that doesn't feel like one of those money-grabbing mega-chains. Prices are affordable and their selection of movies is impressive given their size. Worth checking it out just to get a sense of the history of Old Greenbelt and the first theaters in Maryland.
Specialty film programming and tasty, diverse concessions. If you are a lover of film you should check this place out.
Great place to go out and enjoy a meal with a friend and then see an independent film. The theater is currently under action so the pop up theater is a room with relatively comfortable chairs and the concessions are next door. It was a positive experience.
Great to have this classic theater right in town. The new management has brought in great films, yummy new local goodies at the concession stand, and the renovated bathrooms and lobby are really fantastic. Proud to be a member of the theater!
I love having this old, historic theater right down the street.
The old time big screen theatre is great. Good film selection and reasonable prices make this my new favorite theatre.
Really cool site. Good kids movies. Yummy concessions. Great cause.
Very good theater in which they take care of the clients. The movie selection is very good, including a lot of independent movies. The personnel is very nice.
Affordable, excellent local treat options, and is a great way to see good movies and support the community
Very Cozy
Had never heard of this gem before, the whole area is a wonderful spot. Got a chance Saturday to see the last movie before the renovation closing, Rocky Horror was so much fun. Cannot wait to return in the future.
Love this movie theatre. Lots of old-time charm and character. Wish I still lived close enough to visit it frequently.
Nice place to watch movie and food options are nice. Price is fair and they have many deals. Big screen good sound quality and nice seating arrangement.
Love the place
5 star rating.
This is a hip and historic single-screen theatre with smart independent movie choices and lots of intelligent and fun community programming for all ages. And it's in a really cool ca. 1930s green Utopian community of Greenbelt. One of my favorite places of all time.
The atmosphere is great. A goodlittle community theatre.
The place to be. The right people and atmosphere.
Specialty film programming and tasty, diverse concessions. If you are a lover of film you should check this place out.
Very Cozy
