REVIEWS OF AMC Uptown 1 IN Maryland

Carine Jemia

Great theater. Love the view and huge screen. Only down side is the seats are uncomfortable.

Binaya Paudel

Not much facilities like reclining seats!

Sue Schumacher

Does not have stadium seating. Street parking onky, but right at the Cleveland Park metro stop

Kat Kealy

Seats are falling apart a bit like in many older theaters, but I'd never been to a movie theater with a balcony and sitting in the balcony to see Thor on a really big screen was great!

Malek Massoud Riahi

We are very fortunate to have one of 11 I believe CINERAMA’s left in the US from the 60’s

Jon Saunders

The screen is too dark, even with 2D movies.

Raymond Takor

My favorite theater in DC. Good low key theater with a huge screen and awesome overall location.

Marty

I've been to just about every movie theater in the greater DC area and this one is my favorite (AMC Courthouse theater in Virginia is amazing too with the big seats). The old theater style of this place is top notch and really fun sitting in the upper balcony. If that isn't the best part then I would have to say the size of the screen. This thing is big. And I've been to real IMAX theaters and not those fake ones in Georgetown or Tysons. This place has a massive screen that is great for any big movie. Only draw back to this theater is that they only play one movie but it is usually the #1 film out at the time. They also don't have a ton of showtimes which can be an issue to some. I've never eaten there but I normally don't at a movie. The seats are just your standard type and the lower level has the old style of rows but its not an issue seeing over the person in front of you since the screen is massive. The seats in the balcony have stadium style. Prices here are great for a matinee ($8 or $9 I think) and the evening shows are about the same price as anywhere in the city. Definitely worth stopping by to catch the latest film.

Matthew Jordan

Nice historical theatre to catch a show. Big screen, lots of seating.

VC Nickels

It's the Uptown, that's the only reason I didn't give it a 2, or even a 1. Nostalgia goes a long way. The seats are uncomfortable and entirely to close together. The concession stand on the first floor is small and frequently causes a backup in the lobby. There's one on the second floor but they never seem to open in.

Gregory Goodwin

Excellent place to see a movie. An old time single screen with a balcony. Huge screen is great to see blockbusters on.

Dylan Sweeney

Best theater in DC. Been coming here for 30 years and don't ever think I'll stop.

Toan Tran

They definitely do not make them like this anymore. Movie premieres used to be held here and for very good reason. The screen is amazing and the sound system is awesome. Try to catch a movie here if you can.

Neil Hendrick

I like this old fashioned theatre because it has just one large screening room. The balcony seating gives you a great view of the large curved movie screen. It is a little old and beat up, so some of the seats are lumpy or damaged. Very convenient to the red line metro.

Andrea Heymont

Great, classic theater!

Karina Valverde

I first came to Uptown to see the Batman movie (with Heath Ledger as the Joker). The huge screen makes you feel like you can dive right into the action and so it was with this movie. I literally was jumping and cringing in my seat at all the special effects. In one suspenseful moment I got spooked and had the popcorn fly out of my lap--which was comic relief for my companion and those sitting around me. Anyway great space for action thriller movies.

D B

Standard movie theater experience. The seats are huge and you kinda sink into them. Which isn't the most comfortable. To give a sense of how enormous the screen is (which can be great depending on the film), if you sit downstairs you have to crane your neck up to see the screen, even from a distance.

Andrew Sharp

Great theater with one large beautiful screen. I use my AMC Stubs a less pass and it worked flawlessly the staff was really helpful. The only downside was that when I stepped out mid movie to get concessions there is nobody anywhere to be found otherwise I had a great time.

Marcus Brooks

If it's a popular movie, get there early. Screen is massively curved and I saw La La Land, which I do not think was optimized for the screen. I'm pretty tall and leg room was decent but the seat backs only came up to my shoulders.

James Ostmann

My favorite theater by far. Has been for years. Looking forward to seeing Sniper. 2001 A Space Odyssey was one I will always recall, among others.

Reed Carey

The theater is great as always, but the volume seemed unnecessarily loud!

Ayana Aquila

Always a wonderful experience. Made our mother's day Avengers End Game viewing extra special and brought back a lot of fond memories. Any film fan has gotta love the vintage restroom lounges that are so reminiscent of The Shining,

Craig Thackray

Great for event films with friends

Seg Son

Great place to get the grand experience. Took a group to see Black Panther.

Michael Ada

one of the older theaters in dc...but they have a balcony which is pretty cool. nice staff.

Daniel Turner

Huge huge screen. Old style theater. Seats could use replacing but man, this is a great theater.

James Harwood

Best venue to watch any movie

Monica Andrews

I love that this theater has a huge screen and balcony seating. The extra legroom and more spacious seating make this theater stand out above the rest. Though you might have to sacrifice film variety with only one screen, it's totally worth the trek to Cleveland Park for a classic movie experience.

Bob Grannan

I love this theater. As an every day consumer, I've had the chance to attend some blockbuster premieres here, and it was an amazing experience. But as an event planner, I also had a chance to throw a huge event. I wish their AV guy had brought more cables, but we threw the best corporate event in our company's history, and the on-site team was helpful and friendly through the whole thing.

Yvonne T

In if the few old time theaters with a balcony. Has updated curved screen. But no recliners yet as some of the suburban AMC theaters have.

Walter Ellis

A great experience on a wonderful screen. Sometimes they have had a bit of trouble with the focus or 3-D alignment. I wish they pay a bit more attention to detail for this "flagship" theater should not just rely on size alone to be great.

Richard Stempniewicz

One of the last few remaining large format single screen theaters in the area. Excellent venue for watching movies on the big screen, the way they were meant to be viewed.

Warren L

The last of the old-style big screen theaters!

Jon Schulman

This is an old-school movie house, with boat-loads of authenticity. The screen is AMAZING, but the seats are….not comfortable. Do yourself a favor, and get there early enough to snag a spot upstairs in the balcony.

Andres Mendoza

Best place to see Star Wars and I have seen them all there

Marcel Philliphe

Perfect place to get a cold in the summer. Bring a jacket or you will freeze to death

Brian Piotrowski

I love this theater. From the old-school matinee out front to the giant single screen inside, this place oozes nostalgia for a moviegoing experience that is all but lost in the past. Despite the lone screen, the selection of films on offer never seems stale or limited due to a relatively dynamic schedule of showtimes. Conveniently located mere steps away from the the Cleveland Park Metro, this theater is truly a treasure.

Will Campbell

A spot in DC I love. This old theater has a really cool vibe. Definitely worth checking out.

Classic large format, movie theater. Great for blockbusters.

Matthew Jordan

Nice historical theatre to catch a show. Big screen, lots of seating.

Gregory Goodwin

Excellent place to see a movie. An old time single screen with a balcony. Huge screen is great to see blockbusters on.

Dylan Sweeney

Best theater in DC. Been coming here for 30 years and don't ever think I'll stop.

James Douglass

THE theater to see a blockbuster movie in DC. It's been around since the 1940s and has a single, two-story high movie screen. There is a balcony level to watch the screen from! The seats are comfortable and the snacks are standard movie theater fair. Locals know this is the place to go for exciting movies. There is a nice array of restaurants and bars across the street, so this is a great spot, on top of the Cleveland Park Metro, for dinner and a movie.

Toan Tran

They definitely do not make them like this anymore. Movie premieres used to be held here and for very good reason. The screen is amazing and the sound system is awesome. Try to catch a movie here if you can.

Nice place to catch a movie

Sam Little

This place is DOPE. Super retro experience I love it. It is annoying when they play the same movie 3 weeks in a row but W/e I go to 5 dollar move Tuesday so you get what you pay for.

Oliver Peckham

The AMC Loews Uptown 1 is a quaint, adorable little theater. The seating isn't the most comfortable, and the snacks aren't the cheapest, but the construction of the thing is lovely -- just visit! -- and the projection was good. Great location -- if you time it right, you can walk out of the movie into the farmer's market!

Richard Stempniewicz

One of the last few remaining large format single screen theaters in the area. Excellent venue for watching movies on the big screen, the way they were meant to be viewed.

Warren L

The last of the old-style big screen theaters!

Mike Clarke

Pretty quiet little theater. Went there to see Black Panther.. Line went around the corner but amazing they got everyone in their seats on time! Getting tickets was easy due to online ordering. I would give it 5 stars but the decor looks old and the restrooms are located upstairs.

Jon Schulman

This is an old-school movie house, with boat-loads of authenticity. The screen is AMAZING, but the seats are….not comfortable. Do yourself a favor, and get there early enough to snag a spot upstairs in the balcony.

A Google User

Decent screen and seating. Concessions are exceptionally expensive.

Steeve _

They have plenty of seats and a balcony view

Stephen Bent

After all these years, still one of the best movie venues around.

Damon Dyer

No words. Love this place. I usually go on off days in the middle of the day just to get away..

M Sams

A must see former 70mm theater with curved screen in the DC. Easy access from Cleveland Park Metro Station. It has since been converted to digital projection. So this expands its film formats, including 3D.

Heidi Kurniawan

Love the balcony seating here. I’m so happy this theater exists. It’s historic (look up how many screenings have happened here - amazing!) and has a great neighborhood vibe. Even the bathrooms on the second floor have that charming, retro feel. The screen is much larger than you’d expect, and the prices are decent, too. You can’t beat those weekend matinee $5.50 tickets, and $5 movies on Tuesdays. This is a great theater to catch a movie at.

dcdave357 .

This movie theater is about 10yrs past due for a renovation.

Dylan Joyce

Love that this charming one-screen is in my neighborhood. Packed on a Friday night, so get there early. Extra seating on the second floor.

Victoria Garzillo

Clean well kept theatre. Restroom tidy and clean. Comfortable seating. Pleasant experience.

Adam Mele

I believe it was Godard who once said ‘the cinema is lies at something something framed per second.’ A provocative statement, especially when placed next to the extremely popular saying ‘this is my truth.’ Well, which is it? The truth is, the answer may vary from person to person. What matters is that movies are a thing and you can still watch them. True beings of light, immaterial, existing only in time by courtesy of the most state of the art LCD projectors. Will we ever reckon what is real and, to quote the Stone Temple Pilots, ‘what’s for sale’ while watching a movie? Of course we won’t. However, we may find out who Grindelwald is and what exactly his crimes are. That’s not nothing. I saw a movie called Halloween here. Initially I was disappointed, but it was only because there are so many other holidays without movies to call their own and to be played at this establishment. I looked at the popcorn. It seemed delicious.

LaShana Calloway

Nice vintage looking theater that they've kept in good condition. One theater building but really crowded on major release days and kind of cool going to see a movie and knowing everyone in the building is watching it

Angélica Garcia

Been going to this theatre for years. I love the balcony seating and the funky, eclectic vibe of the place.

PATSY LYNCH

Movies on the big screen with comfortable chairs

Nicholas Walenga

Historic Theater in the middle of cleveland park heppenings. I think this was a performing arts theater converted into a film theater. So it has an oversized screen and amazing soundsystem, and could probably be an imax it it was more traditional. One screen gives the place a really cool vibe, as everyone is watching the same movie and the staff are all working for the same screen.

Marta Garcia

Staff was great! And it is a great theater. The ADA seats are not great however.

George Annrella

Comfortable seating good sound

Stephanie Hellerman

With its enormous wrap around screen and balcony seating, The Uptown is the place in NW DC to see all the great movies.

Raphael Tisch

Huge screen uptown, rivals big screens of other major market theaters. While they're only showing one or two movies at a time (only one screen) it's always a great experience. Plus, they have a balcony!

Marissa Ditkowsky

I am disabled, and this theater is technically accessible, but not really. The main bathrooms are upstairs, and there is no elevator. There is only one single accessible stall downstairs, which is not great for a movie theater (the goal is to NOT miss significant portions of a movie, and when everyone, disabled or not, is incentivized to use a single stall downstairs, that's not great). The seats are not on a very steep slope and not on steps, so the situation is not ideal if you are short. The sound quality is also inconsistent throughout the theater.

Daniel Eling

Great place, but make sure you are there to see a properly epic, cinematic movie.

Reno Carlitti

Line moved quickly and theater interior is newly renovated.

Jan D Thomas

Tons of seats with a great location

Cristian Simon

Ridiculously awesome theater. It is worth every penny for the two-story high wrap-around screen.

nirav desai

Not alot of shows but love the old school balcony seating.

Michael DiDomenico

Fun old movie theater with a balcony. The art deco styling is just kind of fun. There is only one screen, so make sure you know what's playing before going! It's not very crowded on weekdays. The $5 Tuesday AMC movie deal is a steal.

Nathan Callahan

The best theater east of the Mississippi River.

Eric Golden

It was all good. thanks

Kevin Sheffield

Projector goes out 10 minutes into the movie and the entire theater sits in the dark for 35 minutes before anyone from the theater comes to talk to us. Worst theater experience.

Charles Tomasello

Great old, historic theater. Screen is nice and crisp. Food is typical for movies but good. Well worth the visit.

Christina C

Great cozy theater with options of places to venture out to after your viewing. This location typically screens 2-3 shows at a time so definitely check viewing times. They might not have what you planned to see.

Karen Saucier

One of the few single screen theaters remaining in the area. Nice big screen with a sloping floor and a balcony. Many fine memories of midnight showings of Harry Potter and Star Wars movies. Wished they would show classics from time to time. Saw Lawrence of Arabia, Vertigo, and the Sound of Music there and it was fantastic.

Steeve _

Sarah Steele

This theater isn't fancy and doesn't have seating that prevents people from getting in your way, but it's a great place. It has sort of a old fashioned, family owned feel (though I don't know if they are family owned)

Margaret Bamber

We always go to the Uptown for movies like the Stars Wars series and Jurassic Park/ World to see them on the largest screen in the metro area.

Heidi Kurniawan

Love the balcony seating here. I’m so happy this theater exists. It’s historic (look up how many screenings have happened here - amazing!) and has a great neighborhood vibe. Very nice small cinema with good experience of movie watching.

dcdave357

Kristian Perry

A beautiful old theater. Two levels of seating and a massive screen. A great place to see a cinematic spectacle.

Dylan Joyce

Love that this charming one-screen is in my neighborhood. Packed on a Friday night, so get there early. Extra seating on the second floor.

Great service from staff.

Big ol' Uptown has the hugh screen great sound.

Tommy Lawrence

Fun, old school, single screen theatre! Air conditioning was on full blast though, and they played 25 minutes of trailers! Plus the screen is curved (which is nice) but the projector is not calibrated to match so the aspect of the films are warped. Other than that, fun visit!

Glen Clatterbuck

A single-screen theater with plenty of seating in an urban residential area near downtown D.C. at a red-line Metro stop (Connecticut Ave. NW). It seems well maintained but does show its age here and there such as some restrooms on a different floor. I've used street parking when I drive but it will be up side streets. Projected images and sound were fine, even for 3-d. Food service is limited to traditional snack-bar fare but there are several nearby restaurants of various kinds. Near the national zoo.

Tim Faass

great theater and the balcony seating is prime

Cristian Simon

Saw my first DC movie here and have been smitten ever since. Just a wonderful theatre to see a movie. Go!

Nathan Callahan

The best theater east of the Mississippi River.

Rob Loring

Fantastic theatre!

Eric Golden

It was all good. thanks

Ronald Huskey

Old, grand theater with a balcony, but not great seating for kids. Great place to see a movie, however.

Justin Turner

The best experience possible when seeing a movie. This theater is known for it's amazing, large, single screen. But they also have great staff and concessions. I try and see as many movies as possible here, despite being a bit of a ways away from home - it's worth the trip.

Jennifer Fields

Best theater in DC for a movie!

Jolfre Rodriguez

Even tho it's an old cinema, it's great.

Andrew Reid

Great old-school picture palace with one enormous screen. One drawback, there's no kiosk for picking up on-line tickets -- print it out or line up at the wicket.

Andrea Kennard Richter

I'm told this used to be a great theater. The key word is used to be. The seats were comfortable and the theater is close to a metro but that's about all it has left going for it. The sound quality is very off and gives movies an oddly hollow sound. Additionally, the movie I was watching experienced 3 power surges that shut down the projector and sound to the movie, leaving the movie watchers in a dark, silent theater for several minutes before restarting the movie.

Anna

Cute old movie theater. Had to wait 10 minutes for one of the items on the menu (cinnamon buns or smth like that) because it was prepared right there and then but, otherwise, a good experience.

T S

A local staple for a great movie experience

Fabricio Castro-Canas

Old school style theatre and great and friendly staff!

George Valdivia

This movie theater rocks. My first movie here was Star Wars when I was a child. I have since brought my own family here to watch many a movie and have traveled to do so. I wish there were more theaters like this around the country but I highly recommend it. The ambiance cannot be beat.

Angela Kleinmeyer

The theatre entry way is a must visit. Go up the escalator and look at all the quotes below!

Rory Harper

Favorite theater in DC. Ageing, but still great place to watch movies.

Hugo Olivares Caire

Very friendly staff and the rooms are delightful and comfortable!!

Salome Ann Trocino

Middle class theatre. I can't complain much since they do have good services. Though its physical condition isn’t in the best shape.

Allison Cook

It's an old movie theater but it does what it needs to. I don't really love the seating, but the staff is friendly and it's usually a little cheaper to go here than the fancier theaters. Also they only have 1 theater so there isn't a huge selection, but if you plan ahead you'll be able to see the movie you want to see!

John Baker

This place is great! I love the old school feel and the giant screen. It's so big you can watch from the balcony as well.

Athena Canjura

Super nice, big theater

Richard Robin

The best classic movie house in DC

Fernando Cs

Last old school big screen movie theater! Great place to watch a movie.

Edward Jin

It is getting old but all the history makes it worth it. Even though parking sucks, inside decrepit and seats uncomfortable.... the nostalgia of the place makes the visit worthwhile. I remember watching the opening of Star Wars when i was young thinking that this was the grandest theater i ever been. Of course I was 8years old.

Ronald C

The place is beautiful and clean. The service was great; however, I am giving it 2 stars on one simple, but major inconvenience, the seats. The seats are so very uncomfortable! I understand that this theatre may be trying to preserve the old "movie theater" feel but the seats or stiff and rigid! They do not tilt or bend at all! I have never been in a movie theater with seats this uncomfortable! I hope they do reservations, otherwise, this was my last visit.

Emanuele Gissi

Great old cinema!

Brian Burrell

Quick and easy entry, parking can be tough though. Screen and sound is one of DC's best

Samuel Yu

Only 1 movie screen, but it was a great place to watch Black Panther! #wakandaforever

Matt Roberts

Awesome place to catch big Hollywood films with explosions and lasers and such. One big screen, and has great balcony seating, like in movie theaters that we hear about from before most of us were born...

Justin Turner

The best experience possible when seeing a movie. This theater is known for it's amazing, large, single screen. But they also have great staff and concessions. I try and see as many movies as possible here, despite being a bit of a ways away from home - it's worth the trip.

Even tho it's an old cinema, it's great.

Andrew Reid

Great old-school picture palace with one enormous screen. One drawback, there's no kiosk for picking up on-line tickets -- print it out or line up at the wicket.

Rebeca M

Great

Ryan Shevchik

Best Theater I've ever been to. Amazing screen and great picture quality. Good sound. Surrounded by great restaurants. Won't go anywhere else.

John Baker

This place is great! I love the old school feel and the giant screen. It's so big you can watch from the balcony as well.

I hope they do renovations, otherwise, this was my last visit.

Nicholas Delzingaro

Best movie theater in DC by far. It only plays one movie but it is usually the best movie release during the week. Love this movie theater.

Erin Weber

Love the balcony! It's a fun place to catch a movie, if they're playing the one you want

Stephanie E Walker

Convenient, quick and has one of the largest screens in the area.

Ahmed Ibrahem

It is great best theater ever

Andrew Berghoff

One screen but plays new and 3D movies! I love watching movies here. Arm rests do not go up, and no reclining chairs, but seats are otherwise comfortable. Best seats are on the balcony.

Tony Senerchia

I love this theater. I've gone here since I was a kid. Once you're in your seat, it's 5-stars. But getting in, (especially) getting refreshments and the restrooms could really use rethinking. Still, if a movie I want to see is playing there, it's on the top of my list.

James Clark

The Uptown is fantastic. The screen is huge and the theater is always clean when I've gone. The employees also seem nicer than I expect, a nice perk.

Jonathan Dagle

The best traditional cinema experience around. 3D, IMAX? Who needs them. The giant old-timey screen is the largest around -- it cannot be beat. You'd have to kneel 12" in front of your 50" flat pannel at home to get an experience 1/10th as good. On the down side, get there early because the large theater holds a lot of people.

Paul Uppole

Classic old school theatre. If you want bells and whistles and reclining chairs this is not the place. But is has s huge screen great sound and huge mezzanine

Joseph Lash

One massive theater with a balcony overlook. Excellent.

Dana Booker

Crowded but it was Star Wars! Clean place

Hugo Day

Great theater with plenty of seating.

Naoual Jidal

Beautiful vintage cinema!

Nia Frieson

This is my absolute favorite single screen theatre. The screen is the perfect size for all the epic sizes movies. When I want to watch a movie on a television sized screen...I stay home. When I want to have the "movie experience", I go to the Uptown.

Maria Limarzi

Almost certainly the largest, non-IMAX screen in DC

Devin Foether

If you are a tall, rotund person like me, you are going to have trouble getting comfortable. Otherwise, very nice theater.

Brett Harris

Built in 1936, the Uptown theater has a mezzanine level and a huge screen with excellent sound.

J V

Amazing character, crummy seats, good sound and gigantic screen, ok popcorn, many restaurants and bars super close

Bucky Buckminsterfullerine

First time here in forever and still the same. Great staff. Very clean.

Carl Dahlia

Very little air conditioning and uncomfortable seats.

True Story

The best theater experience in Dc

Rick Yorgey

Wonderful BIG screen theater!

Vincent Guilpain

Great atmosphere, big screen, balcony. I was on the ground floor but the seats are not comfortable when you're a six footer

Christopher Warren

Classic theater. Nothing else in the area comes close to pulling off that classic feel. There's also a coca cola freestyle machine.

Tiffany Alexandra

Ok place old some character

Geet Jeswani

One of the few balcony seating theaters in DC. Every time I come here, there's always room for midnight screenings. Love this place.

David Woodhead

The screen us immense in this historic theater. While great for viewing larger than life scenery, it was cold on this particular day, and felt a bit dated compared to renovated AMC theaters with recliners, expanded concession stands, etc.

Steven Nichols

This theater offers a classic movie going experience. There is only one screen but large enough to be seen from the main floor as well as the balcony. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of AMC's more modern theaters such as seat reservations, digital Dolby theater seats or IMAX offerings.

mc harris

My favorite childhood movie theater

Andrew Huber

Best theater in Washington DC. Huge screen, amazing balcony.

mike haley

Best place to see a movie in DC!

Crystal Robarts

Huge screen, comfy seats, balcony seating. Cool place.

Spencer yearous

I go to this theater most often now because of its proximity to my house. There are usually tickets available to the movies I want to see and I can book my seats online before I go. I also appreciate that the seats are leather and reclining. The concession stand line can be rather long however if your trying to catch your movie without a 15 minute pit stop.

Tanya Covington

No frills theater, Regular seats .However ,a quaint well located venue. Nice area with plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. Woodley Park and Cleveland Park Metro Stations are accessible. The theater is also on the L2 bus line .

Joshua Cohen

Classic single screen theater with a balcony. Giant screen, but quality of picture and sound could be better.

Kate Bigam Kaput

The Uptown is my all-time favorite theater, & I eagerly await the days when they switch to a new movie. With just one mega screen, seeing a movie here is a treat - & I'll go see just about anything they show here, no matter my interest level, because the experience is just that good. I'm a big fan of the balcony seating, & I love seeing midnight premieres here. Seeing a movie at the Uptown is a quick trip back to simpler times, when movie theaters weren't multiplexes & the film was the focus. Want to make a night of it? Grab dinner beforehand at Indique or Pho Le or Spices or anywhere, really. Arrive a little too early? Grab a drink at Uptown Taphouse or the Cleveland Park Bar & Grille or Nanny O'Brien's. Arrive basically on time but don't want to pay for expensive movie food? There's a CVS across the street & a Walgreens down the road to grab snacks, too!

Ron Costigan

One screen, old style theatre nice sound. Watched: Batman vs Superman! 3D

Erin Weber

Love the balcony! It's a fun place to catch a movie, if they're playing the one you want

Amy Bailey

Love the theatre but concessions are a nightmare. Waited in line 15 minutes and bailed because there were still so many people ahead of me and I didn't want to miss any of the movie!

Stephanie E Walker

Convenient, quick and has one of the largest screens in the area.

Sam Horn

Decent screen and seating. Concessions are exceptionally expensive.

Andrew Berghoff

One screen but plays new and 3D movies! I love watching movies here. Arm rests do not go up, and no reclining chairs, but seats are otherwise comfortable. Best seats are on the balcony.

Tony Senerchia

Stefan P. Berg

This historic single screen theater offers an excellent viewing experience from the floor and the balcony. Now part of the AMC theater family, Uptown has perks including Student night on Thursdays, and is typically showing the hot new films, although sometimes for weeks on end.

James Clark

The Uptown is fantastic. The screen is huge and the theater is always clean when I've gone. The employees also seem nicer than I expect, a nice perk.

Paul Uppole

Hunter Bokus

5-Stars because it is intrinsically amazing, however... We need to tell AMC to put some money into its historic refurbishment. How long has the neon letter "O" in the sign been out? A LONG time. Bulbs in the marquis down below need changing. These things are basic upkeep. There is so much more that could be done that would keep the lines going around the block for years. I certainly have ideas. They need to know that this is a valued historic neighborhood gem that only needs polishing for it to be a destination for movie-goers from across the country. Weigh in, folks, and let's see about getting it back to its original splendor!

Maria Limarzi

Almost certainly the largest, non-IMAX screen in DC

Devin Foether

If you are a tall, rotund person like me, you are going to have trouble getting comfortable. Otherwise, very nice theater.

Matt R

Historic spot and I'm glad it exists, but they keep it FREEZING inside.

Brett Harris

Built in 1936, the Uptown theater has a mezzanine level and a huge screen with excellent sound.
