Great spot for any event. Friendly staff. Clean and cool bathroom. You'll know what I mean if you visit. Nice venue.
This place is gorgeous and quite an intimate venue! It is decorated in a lovely style that's what I've been told is a nod to Shakespeare's wonderful play, "A Midsummer's Night Dream." And the lady's room... worth the visit alone!!
The is a unique place. Well worth the time to visit
A unique and defining feature that adds greatly to the community, the Music Hall is a wonderful venue to experience everything from Warren Miller film fests to symphonies and traveling performances and guest speakers. Worth the visit
Worth a trip for the bathrooms alone...seriously.
Layer. It's biggest drawback is you don't know whether it will be hot or cold.
Great venue, great shows. Be careful when choosing your seating some views very ubstructed.
This place is a treasure in the heart of Portsmouth bringing amazing performances to the Seacoast in a venue that is incredibly beautiful.
Special place with broad selection of programs.
Love it, great place, great service.
Cool concert venue
We sat near the back of the balcony and still saw and heard a great show. Don't think there's a bad seat in the house.
Only one because of Scott Kelly. A little pricey. I was glad to see that Scott Kelly has so many people interested in him.
Awesome venue and a great time. Best drinks you can get at a theater. On a side note... Those bathrooms are freaking amazing
Great service for my father-in-law who needed an elevator. Need more cashiers working concessions.
Awesome old theater, great movies, pleasant staff. I mean wow this is truly a hidden gold nugget of Portsmouth. Given the new roadwork supporting a very touristy place Portsmouth nightlife is moving upwards. Those new pillars & arch.
Awesome experience, great show. Saw the musical White Christmas with loved ones. Truly a great show put on by the Ogunquit Playhouse Theatre Group and guest star Sally Struthers. A memorable time was had by all. Staff and ushers were very helpful and informative.
Elf the musical was amazing! Beautiful venue! We can't wait to go back.
The Portsmouth Music Hall is a gem in the seacoast. The building itself is fabulous- comfortable, classy, inviting. There are so many great movies, shows of all types and you can have cold drink and many great places to eat nearby.
Enjoyed a lovely concert by the Porstmouth Symphony Orchestra!
Beautiful old theater.
Went to see Elf, which was wonderful. The seating is very tight and unfortunately for my 6'6" son, it was very uncomfortable. There really should be seating for big and tall people.
I have been to a handful of musicals here. The facility is very welcoming and old school fancy with the large red curtain and intricate wood designs. The seats are the folding style with a good amount of leg room. In the balcony there is a good angle to the floor and seats are offset row to row so you have a good view wherever you are.
Set in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, this historical theatre will transport you back in time. I've been here many times over the last twenty years. This is the first time I've been since the Chestnut Street renovation. They really did a wonderful job with the exterior of the theatre and the surrounding street. In the past the entrance really just look like it was down an alleyway. But now with the new Archway on Chestnut and renovation of the street, it has a much more welcoming appearance. Sounds in the theatre is great. The interior of the theater is clean and very beautiful. The bathrooms, which had been recently renovated, are absolutely spectacular. I know that's a funny thing to say about a bathroom, but you really must see them. A plus is they have full bars, so you can order mixed drinks, wine and beer, and they smartly have plastic glasses with snap lids that can be consumed in the theatre during the performance. If you're looking for a nice night on the town with some entertainment definitely check out the Portsmouth Music Hall
There on a historic Portsmouth ghost tour.
Steve Rogers. Great show!!!
Juston McKinney Dec. 29, 2018 A++++
Great spot for any event. Friendly staff. Clean and cool bathroom. You'll know what I mean if you visit. Nice venue.
Ports mouth Music Hall does an amazing job of mixing history with current culture and style. Not to mention they're diligent pursuit of Excellence in conscientious customer service. The Music Hall provides excellent contemporary art (music, film & expose in a historic & unpretentious setting. PORTS MOUTH is blessed!
Super location, great sound, really nice volunteers!

Really nice venue. Great place to take in a concert. Plan to come early, as parking is always at a premium in Portsmouth.
What's not to like? Classy old theatre, very well restored and maintained. Friendly volunteers helping everyone, great selection of shows at fair prices, etc. Wonderful experience every time we go.
Beautiful venue, excellent for the TEDx event I attended
Beautiful, freshly remodeled facility. Good drinks at the bar. Every seat is a good seat.
Good lineup of talent and events, good space and right in town. Easy to walk to but good luck with Portsmouth parking
Incredible place for a concert! We saw Snarky Puppy there with House of Waters recently (2019). Great sound, nice atmosphere.
The music hall is one of the reasons I love Portsmouth. So many great shows and experiences over the past decade or so are owed to the Music Hall, as will many years more. The service is fantastic and the venue is beautiful. The music hall has truly enriched my life!
Cool historical theatre. Was in town with an artist performing at the theatre. Loved the room and the crew. Everything top notch. Intimate, sounds great, not a bad seat in the house. Go see shows here and experience it for yourself!
What a beautiful place!!
Perfect venue for an intimate show. Wish the sound was a little bit higher difficult to hear in the back rows. Staff and volunteers were wonderful and friendly.
What a great concert hall! Enjoyed the entire evening and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Asheigh and her crew are great! Easy and fun to work with!
We went to see "Leisure Seeker" this past weekend while we were visiting the Portsmouth area. What a gorgeous venue! We looked up at the ceiling and admired the painting on it, as well as all the ornate decor around the stage area. The staff was very helpful too! We will go back again in the future!
Unbelievable experience... classy, sassy, classic.
Great place to watch a performance.

Beautiful space with great shows. Most beautiful ladies' room ihave ever seen.
Such a nice place - very old school. We went to see Lewis Black the comedian, not a bad seat in the house!
Great place to watch or perform!
Cool historical theatre. Was in town with an artist performing at the theatre. Loved the room and the crew. Everything top notch. Intimate, sounds great, not a bad seat in the house. Go see shows here and experience it for yourself!
Lovely place with lots of history.
Beautiful scenery but the lounge is a little small
Loved how modern and unique the lobby is! I felt transported back in time while walking to our seats in the theater. Having a beer while watching the performance really topped off the experience! They even come with lids.
Gorgeous theatre, excellent programming (been there for my favorite band, the Indigo Girls; took my niece to Mary Poppins a couple of years ago; tonight got to listen to the incredible mind of Pulitzer Prize winner Jared Diamond..... so good!) A must see, must do in Portsmouth!
We ventured to this renovated auditorium a few years back to see the group Gaelic Storm perform. We were blown away, not only by the group, but by the beauty of this century plus old facility. It was updated without skimping on any details. My wife and I were most impressed by the marble walled restroom facilities. We both felt as though we were in the home of royals, it was so well outfitted with marble, etc.
Lovely historical theatre that presents movies not available at chain cinemas as well as staged events, marred only by a bizarre (Capt.Nemo themed?) lobby.
Great intimate venue with phenomenal rest rooms!
Great band, ward Hayden and the Outliers
Small quaint venue. Perfect for Boz Scaggs
The face of the building is tucked away on a side brick street but it's the interior that is pure art. Even the bathrooms have supposedly been heralded the second best in the country. The main hall itself is small and cozy. It's a raised stage, as many of them are, so the front row puts you at eye level with the performers' feet. But depending what you're there to see, they're still not bad seats. The decor; the friendly, if aged staff; and the full bar all make this place amazing.
They bring shows into the Portsmouth Music Hall that you just can't find anywhere else. Definitely keep your eye on their calendar because there is stuff worth seeing! This night we saw a band, I believe they were from Boston, Who provided the musical backdrop for a vintage silent movie. Absolutely stunning! I will say that if there is no intermission the seats can be a little tough on the hind end... but a small price to pay for a wonderful evening
Great movie selection!
They have done a fantastic job restoring this theater. This is a great place for any event from watching an old classic silent movie to Lincoln Center Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis. Located in the center of downtown Portsmouth just steps from some of the finest restaurants in the area.
A beautiful historic building. The Music Hall offers great shows and movies. The Loft their smaller venue is also good for smaller audiences. Love the Christmas collaboration with the Ogunquit theatre. We have been members for many years.
Unbelievable service, beautifully constructed space. I brought my son to see the play elf and even though I had trouble with my tickets the service desk employee went above and beyond for me. The ushers were very professional and the staff at the food counter were clean, professional and courteous I would certainly go again.
Good acoustics and sight lines. Tight seats with limited leg room.
The show was great. Staff was super friendly. A lot of hard work went in to the planning. Job well done.
Beautiful venue! Was worried because so many ticket options offered "limited or obstructed views" but once inside I saw there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I look forward to more performances here!
Absolutely beautiful interior, amazing productions and friendly staff. Very clean and well kept both around the building it's self and inside.
It’s a cool place. The actual theatre is beautiful, but kind of cheesy social decor by the bar and bathroom.
Great place for a concert & I'm sure a play or movie. Downstairs bar & upstairs concession. The bathroom situation, a couple of stalls would help, otherwise a gem of a place!
The comedy show was the best.
This is a wonderful old and historic theater and the perfect spot for an evening of entertainment. The staff was very friendly. The quality of the production (White Christmas) was superb. We had a very pleasant evening and look forward to returning in the near future.
Fun night out really good place
I remember when this place was a hole in the wall. WOW!!!!!! This place, inside and out, looks fantastic! I went to see the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" , which the audience applauded the movie at the end. The lighting and decor of the interior was impressive. The theater was well maintained and not cold or hot. I sat in the upper balcony and enjoyed the view. I thought the screen was a little small for the venue. I got to talk to the projectionist. She was polite, also very pretty, and asked if I enjoyed the film. All the staff were well dressed. The men's room looked clean and maintained, but, it was crowded so I could not use it. I am looking for another show so I can visit the theater again! The street out front is now a walking area and it looks great! Update: I saw Spike Lee's Blackkklansman in October and I enjoyed the movie and experience. Friendly staff, comfortable temperature and ornate decor. I actually was able to use the men's room. It has to be the nicest lavatory in downtown Portsmouth. Just don't use the washbasin as a toilet, as I overheard one fellow say he almost did. { I guess the soap dispensers and spouts didn't give away any clues.}
Great venue... Wonderful staff
Really cool venue. The style/layout of the the interior was great. Watched a touring movie on the screen that came with an interactive emcee on stage. I didn't get to the balcony, but my experience on the main theater floor was great. I'd absolutely go back.
Would get a 5 star rating if it was in a town that wasn't so liberal and they had straws not sippy cups for drinks. Not everyone is 5 years old .
I ran into a former lady friend from 30 years ago.....she didn't recognize me.... I wasn't sure it was her anyways.....maybe that's why she didn't recognize me.... I was too emotional from the violin performance by Simone Porter, so didn't approach her. However, the Beethoven performance was excellent. Best $34.00 I've spent in a while.
Love everything about this place
Thomson Square and location was great. So inexpensive too
Would get a 5 star rating if it was in a town that wasn't so liberal and they had straws not sippy cups for drinks. Not everyone is 5 years old .

We went to the music hall with a group of friends and had an outstanding time! This is a very small venue and very interactive especially with a comedy show. They also have a bar on the upper and lower levels that are your typical bars.
Great!!!! Must take in the offerings at this theatre!
This was a nice mid sized theater. Well technically appointed with professional production quality. While the proscenium and hall are neoclassical/ greek influenced, the lobby is an interesting hobbit's den and the bathrooms (if few for the number of seats) are fun.
Easy parking options, beautiful venue.
Great venue, First time at the Music Hall, I seen Melissa Etheridge. Best time ever!!!
Lovely theater, decent bar. I saw Christopher Titus tonight and had a blast. I plan on returning!
Loved this venue very clean beautiful good sound reasonable prices!
The Music Hall has nice acoustics, but the seats are tiny and packed close together. I found it painful to squeeze into the seats, and they were so close together that I was brought into intimate contact with the people next to me. It was an altogether uncomfortable experience that I would not wish to have again.
Wonderful production of "Elf the musical" the set, costumes and all involved were really amazing! The Music Hall itself it a great venue, quite beautiful with a good mix of a traditional theater with a few well thought out modern updates!
Great venue but they charge you for tap water
Small, intimate venue. Went to see a speaker, so I'm sure experience is different with a full show. Sat far in back of house, but able to see and hear perfectly fine. Seats are pretty old, but the whole place feels like walking back in time, so I enjoyed even the small feeling of the chairs.
Beautiful place. Glad they had an elevator even though it was a tight fit & tricky driving for my son in his power chair.
Beautiful place. We enjoyed the Portsmouth Symphonic Orchestra Holiday Pops show. I only wish they sold assigned seating since getting to the auditorium was a mess. The foyer is too small to make lines and in the end it doesn't matter if you got there early to get good seats, the people just entering from outside are going in before you.
Great place to visit. A lot of changes since it was the Civic Theatre that I went to as a kid.
Such a historic gem to have right here on the seacoast. If you haven't been before I highly recommend it!
Wild bathrooms! Mosaic, branches, stones, mirror, worth going just to see them. The auditorium is beautiful and seats are comfortable. Great show!
Great venue for a concert
Awesome sound for Andrew Bird concert. Would return if given the chance
Historical and treasured experience
Great venue,good acoustics, comfortable seating
Top notch entertainment, outstanding venue with no bad seats, beautiful historic Portsmouth, NH. Parking can be challenging, though.
Awesome location to take in a show, many places to catch dinner before hand. The cleanest rest rooms ever!
My mother and I both thought that the seats were kind of small, but otherwise we had a wonderful time (we attended the Bohemian Rhapsody singalong)
Great venue. Excellent seating draws you into the action.
Beautiful theater to watch a film play or concert. Nice concession stand and a bar. Lovely clean bathrooms. If you have a tender back bring a support pillow. The ushers are great and will help. There is also an elevator to the main lobby. Ushers are volunteers.
Wonderful venue for all kinds of shows.
Great place to see a play!!
Intimate show and great acoustics
Steely Dan ok
Beautiful venue, great acoustics, lovely staff!
Beautiful theater but parking in downtown is awful
Awesome movies, concerts, and events. The selection is impeccable.
Great old classic venue...not a bad seat in the house. So many great diverse acts, talks and concerts! Be a member for more perks ☺
Supporting community and the environment! The Music Hall is an incredible example of how a successful business can also support the community and care about the environment!! I love seeing that they’ve eliminated plastic water bottles!! The shows and performances are stellar too!! We saw ‘Elf’ and several other shows last year, the line up is filled with great shows. The staff are also super kind and genuinely happy to be there and assist!!
Amazing ! I loved the decor! Should take a picture of the bathroom!
The best place ever
Just attended a comedy show here. It was great! The bartenders were very kind and had great senses of humor. Once we entered the theater we got help finding our seats but we were told to sit in the wrong spots twice by two different people helping with seating. We figured it out on our own and found it a bit funny. Definitely not something thay would ruin the evening.
Three great Christmas shows over the past three years in partnership with the Ogunquit Playhouse.
Saw a film in the afternoon at the Music Hall. Excellent film, relaxing experience. The only stress in Portsmouth is finding a parking space where you don't have to walk a long distance.
Remarkable restoration makes the theatre experience a remarkable memory.
A great theater! Small enough that there are no bad seats, big enough to feel like you’re in a large theater!
We went for the Banff movie premiere!! Holy cow this place was neat, the bathrooms were a work of art and I loved drinking beer out of the sippy cup!
Beautiful building selection of shows is a little bit disappointing
Hilarious show! Great place
Great evening out. Always a good show
I attended a book signing and reading event here, and it was really the perfect location for that kind of thing. It was large enough to hold a good size audience without making it feel like a huge stadium. It's an old New England theater so the inside is gorgeous! Also, the bathrooms are awesome. It sounds weird, but you should definitely go in there. I would love to go back and see live music or a play.
Always a great time with great shows and people. Joe Jackson tonight.
Great hall. For the size of the orchestra they do quite well. Their collaborations with artists and local schools is really nice. The conductor is friendly, animated, and has a good sense of humor. The programs are usually well put together and have a good mix of popular favorites and interesting pieces that are less well-known. Drinks can be expensive, but are generally worth the cost.
Beautiful building
Always enjoy going to the Music Hall... And the Bohemian Rhapsody sing along was awesome!!
Historic theater with great seats. Saw a film festival there and really enjoyed it.
Historic venue with excellent content
Always love the Music Hall. Great acts, funky and elegant, and BIG DRINKS.
Beautiful old theater which brings in national acts in an intimate setting, as well as showing independent movies you don't get to see in national chain theaters. A cultural bright spot in seacoast New Hampshire. I'm grateful this place is around. Check it out!
I love everything hosted here. Intimate setting for concerts, theater and movie screenings. The addition of the basement lounge makes this classic theater feel even more retro, and ability to bring food and beverages into the theater makes it a great venue for kids and parents alike. Park in Portsmouth Parking Garage for a quick walk.
Grand old theater. I saw the Warren Miller film here. It was comfortable but very loud as you might expect.
Great old classic venue...not a bad seat in the house. So many great diverse acts, talks and concerts! Be a member for more perks ☺
Amazing venue with so much history. Just a beautiful gem in downtown Portsmouth which is such a joy to visit every time!
Great place to see a show
Lovely but...bathrooms inconveniently located
A little piece of history downtown with the best entertainment in the area. Great refreshments. Coolest bathroom ever! Great staff. Always my first choice on a night out.
Portsmouths side street diamond! A perfect night out. Awesome venues!
Well run and variety of programs

Lovely venue! Small seats, yet period. Staff was incredibly attentive.
First time here courtesy of my employer. Saw and thoroughly enjoyed Elf.
Amazing venue Love Post Modern Juke Box!
The Music Hall was built over 100 years old but is one of the most intimate, classic place to hear great music. The Lone Bellow did great.
Great place and well run- just wish the seats where more comfortable!
I went to a concert here, and it was wicked awesome- the employees were cool, and the opening act was bumpin. My only complaint was that the performer didnt show up for 30 minutes- so I left. But the opening act was really, really good. The sound system and performers that they have are really talented
Saw White Christmas, a co-production with The Ogunquit Playhouse. The show was fabulous and the venue warm and beautiful. We really need to go to more events there.
Beautiful venue. Felt cosy and intimate with writer and NPR host.I will return.
It's always a delight to take in a show at the music hall. The location of course is excellent, and the re-done street in front of the hall looks great with all the bricks (and a fancy arch). It's right downtown, so there's ample dining both before and after a show. The hall inside is beautiful as you would expect from a building when they built stuff to form as much as function still. Oh, were those still the days. Being a small (500ish?) theatre, there really isn't a bad seat in the house, even the closest rows of balcony to the stage will still get you a decent view.
Great intimate venue, love the sippy cups.
Such a beautiful place! From the lobby, to the auditorium, even the bathrooms!
Great venue and beats the cookie cutter movie theaters by far! Cinema Strangiato was a great show from the balcony!
