This Movie Theater belongs to the category of Movie theater.
This is the finest movie theater in Lexington. Earlier upgrades have made the Kentucky's picture and sound state of the art. It features a wide range of offerings from art house to first run blockbusters, from art installations to concerts and shows. The Kentucky Theater is supported by a devoted group of patrons and theater goers and is a beloved Lexington institution.
I love the Kentucky Theater. It may not have recliners and all the bells and whistles, but they do have a beautiful environment and movies that aren't offered by the big corporation owned theaters. It's beautiful, it's cheaper and it's history!
This place always amazes me when I walk in. Ticket taker could be more professional and not display their personal views (stickers on their personal laptop) and look a bit moe professional. There was no surround sound as in every theater only direct sound from the screen area. Don't know if it was a maintenance issue but theyshould definately have it fixed soon. Service was good at concession and served up my new favorite. Woodford and Ale-8.
It is very quaint and old school. Prices here are cheaper than at other movie theaters but parking sucks.
The Kentucky Theater is a classic. It's the best place to see a movie especially when they show old movies. It's also a great place to see a concert and they have an art gallery too! And with beer and wine at the concession stand you can't go wrong.
True classic
Great theatre with a good selection of films.
The Kentucky Theater is the best theater in Lexington! A unique atmosphere with a constant revolving line up of current, classic, and festival films! Always clean and kept up by a wonderful staff! I go out of my way to see films here!
The Kentucky theater has been a treasure for generations of Lexington families.
Really a beautiful building, and a fun place to watch a movie (including some old classics, how cool is that?!). They've done a great job with renovations/restorations. The price is definitely reasonable, the popcorn is good, and the staff are really friendly. What's not to like?
I love this theatre. It's beautiful. They have concessions and offer different beverage choices. They're always showing interesting movies or documentaries. Sometimes you can even catch a free documentary. They also do a screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show a few times during the year, which is always so fun to go see.
This is such a great theater to see a movie. It feels good to watch a movie in this historic building, and I don't think there's a bad seat location in the main theater room. Concessions are great. People are friendly.
A nice theater-always great movies, some old some new.
A great place for a evening out. They have cocktails, beer and wine and snacks while you watch some great movies. It's an old theater with a lot of character.
Best place to see a movie in Lexington!
Always got to love a local "art house" theater. It's the only place in Lexington to see certain movies on the big screen. They occasionally have "blockbuster" movies but they tend to stick to more artsy fair. The concessions are great and reasonably priced. Ticket prices are much lower than the big theaters. The theaters are fairly updated, and seats are relatively comfortable. But the best thing about this place is that its local and caters to the community!
They always show the UK games for free, great place to have a drink and watch movies, great restaurants in the area, truly a mainstay of life in Lexington.
Beautiful building showing cool movies. Their concession stand has wine and beer too, which is neat
Great venue for theater / movies events. Very nostalgic.
We Loved it.
Beautiful theater. Saw Mama Mia 2 was awesome. A must see.
This is a great place to see a movie. The prices on popcorn and drinks are the best in town.
Old fashioned theater. Great place.
Lovely venue
Is there anywhere else to see a movie in Lexington? I don't know of another one. The Kentucky is absolutely amazing, you can't help but fall in love with it as soon as you walk in!
A super fun date night location! The Kentucky Theatre is a super cool place to see in general, but the fact that it's still up and running is even better. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the audio echos, since it's such an old building.
Love this Beautiful place.. staff was very courteous
The best service in town! Beautiful place, very well maintained. Everyone should experience a movie here!!
Historic theater. Watch Repo Man that followed with a Q and A with Alex Cox the director. HDS Film Festival
Although I loved the theater itself and the snacks as well as the prices the seats themselves I found very uncomfortable and would rather just go to another theatre if you want relaxing seats
Beautiful theater, absolutely can't miss
It is the oldest theatre in KY and it is wonderful! If you love some history, beautiful places or looking for a cool new date place this is the place for tou.
My favorite Lexington movie theatre. A wonderful spot to view classic and contemporary films.
Good theatre.
We enjoyed it. Especially the organ player, it was really neat to see.
It was an interesting experience to to go to Kentucky theatre an old fashion movie theater. It gives you the the feeling of going to a play. The sound and seating are great.
Quite simply the coolest theater in town. If you want a pre megaplex experience this is absolutely the place to go, what real theatres used to be like, and what new ones should aspire too. A fine cinema experience that everyone should have, especially appropriate for one of their many retro screenings.
Catching a flick at The Kentucky is such an experience. I always feel like I'm transported back to the golden age of movie theaters. I try to see as many movies here as possible!
Only theater I like to go to in Lexington. Hurray for the Kentucky Theater! Huge, appreciative crowd for Quentin's latest flick. Great place to be!
Love the ambience in the heart of heart of Lexington! Nice seating and responsive audience along with great snack bar! Ample parking!
Greatly enjoyed Fiddle on the Roof.
Bohemian Rhapsody was great here!
Really like this theater. Glad there's a place in Lexington that will show the more artsy movies that usually only play in larger cities. It looks and feels historic which is also nice. Overall a clean establishment. Feels a bit like going back in time. It's also a good idea to sit closer to the screen rather than farther away.
Any evening at the Kentucky is a great experience.
Real nice experiance.
One of the most historic movie theaters in the state beautiful ceiling great venue for concerts
Love this theatre. Watched Gone With The Wind and Rocky Horror here. Good selection of movies throughout the year.
Old theater with different movies sometime. Where else can you have popcorn and a Kentucky bourbon.
The Kentucky Theatre is a Lexington mainstay. It often plays "art films" that don't show elsewhere in town, and it seems to curate its selections to include more thought- provoking movies. My favorite part, though, is that it hosts exhibits from area artists, and more than one I've been able to meet a talented exhibitor and acquire a wonderful new piece. All together, the Kentucky Theatre is a cultural icon, and I'm happy that our city seems to value the contribution it offers to the community.
What great old movie theater. Reasonable prices, good popcorn, good drink selection, movies are clear and bright, sound is great, excellent summer series of classic movies, current hits... what more do you want?
Love this place. Working to get organ restored, so excited
Place and staff are fine. The new Chucky movie sucks. Don't waste your money.
Always has a great selection of movie. While the sound and picture isn't as good as most modern theaters the atmosphere makes up for it
It's was a great theatre, and the older man told us about the history of the place!! He was a amazing man!!
Love the ambiance of this restored old time theatre. Eclectic films as well as some new releases. Also summer film series is great fun.
Historic theatre wonderfully restored The Summer classic movie series is a fun event. Not your typical theatre. Nice lineup of intellectual and artistic films
You can't beat the Kentucky theater. It's one of the most beautiful theaters I've ever been to! Great time with the family.
Had a great time at the theater just wish you all had more up to date movie's.
An awesome local spot I was thrilled to discover when I moved here. They show a mixture of full and limited release films. It is often the only place you can view some of the movies in Lexington. On top of that, it is beautiful on the inside...plus you can buy wine and beer there!
The Kentucky is always a great spot for any event. Emily Miller's art exhibit was my reason today and it was beautiful. The art, the people there to celebrate it, Emily and the whole atmosphere were all lovely. I'm so glad I went.
The Kentucky is one of our favorite places to see movies. They almost always have the small house movies playing that aren't showing at the larger theaters and their summer movie series (where they play a variety of "older" films) is great fun! I always recommend seeing a movie at The Kentucky if you can!
Charming and beautiful historic theater. Always caters to wide variety of film genres.
This is a beautiful historic place. They show an array of Indy films, classics and favorites. The staff is laid back enough to make careless mistakes, but also forgiving enough to make things right. I love this place. Check it out, I'm sure you will too.
The magic is still there.
It's the finest way to see a movie in Kentucky. Unparalleled.
Seats very uncomfortable, needs renovation. Other than that, love
Everything is great here.
Great place to go to it's nice and not that many people know about it. Only area of concern is the concession area food wise sometimes I feel when I get something like candy it tastes a bit off, maybe it's old idk and wish the popcorn was better but other than that no complaints
Shows a lot of great classic films, the architecture is astonishing and well maintained. The tickets are a little expensive though, $17 for two tickets for a movie that is very old.
Cute little old fashioned movie theatre
The Kentucky Theatre is Lexington's most historic movie theatre (by far!). They offer an eclectic array of movies at a gorgeous setting in the heart of Lexington. For those interested, alcohol is available along with popcorn, Raisinets, and other typical movie-house fare.
Beautiful theatre. Great summer series of classic/cult films.
Always a fun experience
Theater is beautifully decorated and a sound is great!
Excellent place great snacks clean
It's a beautiful historic building and we love the classic movies they show in the summer!
You go here for the atmosphere and to support local. The theaters are obviously very dated compared to the large, contemporary theaters of today. It's a very cozy place to watch a movie on a date night. We love coming here every other month or so. If you are seeing a blockbuster maybe try another theater. If you are watching an indie film, this is the place.
Love going to this theater. Every thing is great about it.
Luv this place!
Great place to see a movie. It's a grand ole theater! Reasonable price concession and you can even have a cocktail if you wish while watching the movie
Beautiful renovated old movie theatre. People are friendly. It's not your typical big cushy chair theatre. It's artsy & shows mostly small film festival type films. If your looking for a nice experience of history meets art this is the theatre for you. Close to pricey restraunts & in a quaint downtown atmosphere its a once in awhile place to "experience". If you prefer large screens & lounge chairs with easy parking go elsewhere.
I love the Kentucky Theatre. Fantastic and friendly staff, great independent films, in a gorgeous historic venue. Always a wonderful experience, without fail.
The Kentucky Theater is a historic cinema in downtown Lexington. As opposed to Hollywood blockbuster type movies, the Kentucky Theater typically shows independently produced films. It has a concession stand that serves cocktails and beer in addition to the standard movie snacks of popcorn and candy. I always enjoy going to see a movie at the Kentucky.
Lovely and iconic theater. Always good movies and often ones you won't find elsewhere.
Went to see the Oscar shorts on their auxillary screen. Staff were great, prices are good, and the theatre was relatively clean. It's great to support this downtown theatre. We will definitely be back.
Saw Sound of Music in this theater the year it was released with my Father and Mother, brothers & sisters. And now, The Greatest Showman with my own family. Life comes full circle. If you've seen the movie you know what I mean.
You gotta support our old historic theaters. This one is a gem.
Super cool, old timey theater.
I love the Kentucky. Great selection of films, local art, amazing selection of healthy and local snacks and beverages. A Lexington staple!
Lovely atmosphere. The staff is very helpful
Love the Kentucky Theater. Nice to have a historical place like this in downtown Lexington
Great theater, friendly staff, VERY clean, good popcorn and great prices!
Love this theater, been going to it all my life. Thank you Mr. Fred!
Retro classic movie feel and look, clean floors not stick with soda and food. Elegent styled theater.
Good place I liked it!
A local treasure that also serves wine?! Yes, please! Newly renovated. I love visiting because it makes going to the movie an experience. Plus, it isnt anymore expensive than other area theatrs.
It was nice.. my first time being inside the theater.. it was a little chilly, but most theaters are.
Beautiful vintage theatre. Classic gem. Lovely wine and spirits. Gorgeous art films.
Nice large comfortable
A great classic movie theatre. The staff is very friendly.
Beautiful old time theater. Wonderful experience seeing the midnight premiere of Momo: The Missouri Monster here.
Nice and clean place. Interesting interior design. Good sound of movie
Beautiful theater with glowing antique ceiling really nice employees our little guy got too sleepy to watch the entire star war movie so they gave us refund tickets for the next day
Best retro film line up in the region. Well maintained and the seating to screen height keeps heads out of LOS and anxious feet out of ear.
It's a historical landmark. The theaters are beautiful. The tickets and concessions were very affordable. I've gone to different things here. I know my daughter has come to their monthly Rocky Horror before. It's just a neat place.
Historical theater with a LOT of character. Manage your expectations...this is not a modern movie experience with the usual audio-visual technology. Choose your movie accordingly.
This is one of my favorite places to visit. Always super clean and friendly staff. Prices are less than your normal theatres. They have a list of summer movies. I will be back soon.
beautiful theater that keeps its antique appearance and you can tell it has definitely been taken good care of. You can buy wine and other alcoholic drinks at the concessions at they have popcorn refill for jut 50 cents! Main room is pretty big so don't sit too far behind or the screen will seem small
The main theater is very nice. Wish they’d upgrade and use real butter on the popcorn.
Beautiful theater. A step back in time while still being provided all the up to date modern conveniences of top rate cinema. A true theater experience. Plus an art gallery featuring local artists and their work. Win win win! Turn an afternoon into a wonderful full day by visiting the tradition of downtown Lexington encompassed by Art, great food, shopping and experiencing the Kentucky Theater before or after... Or both!
Offers some insightful movies more offered by larger mainstream theaters
Friendly staff and great atmosphere
An historic theater, with an organ. On some shows there is an organ player who plays music relating to the show, and it is awesome!
One of the gems of Lexington! Beautifully maintained and managed--and the manager is also a gem. He greeted us personally last night as we came in to see Loving Vincent, and shared his own excitement about the movie. Always a wonderful experience!
Awesome place to see a movie.
Love the new snack bar. Always a class place to see a movie. The ladies restroom was roomy and clean. Will definitely be heading back to see more movies there.
My favorite movie theater in Lexington. I like the movies that they show and I love the popcorn and soft drinks. You can get wine as well. The seats are comfortable and the sound is good.
A REAL TREASURE!
Without a doubt one of the most incredible places to be. I may be biased since I love the movies and I love the history of the movies. You'll watch some of the most incredible independent films as well as plenty of classics. Moreso, the concessions are varied with the classics of popcorn and candy alongside wonderful cocktails. Like I mentioned, I may be biased because of how much I love the movies but I've literally never had a bad experience here.
Only art movie house in Lexington. Good popcorn. Beer, drinks at concession. New comfortable seats. Fred Mills is a great impresario.
Always love coming to this theater! The newly remodeled concession stand looks great!
A historic place for Lexington; a landmark with wonderful owners and a great place for events or to see a movie.
It's a significant Historic Landmark, but it was an awful place to watch a movie. It was cold (in Dec) and the echo made it hard to understand the dialogue in the film. I know they have more than one theater in there so maybe that was just the one I was in. I feel guilty only giving it three stars, but just trying to be honest.
Jamaya and I enjoyed the very good Mr. Roger's movie this afternoon. I laughed and cried. The world needs many more Mr. Rogers. He left this us in 2003.
Theater is beautiful. Price was great. Movie was an oldie but a goodie
I love coming here. The atmosphere just can't be beat. The seats are the fancy recliners like some places but boy does it make up for that. The staff is great, is usually fairly cheap, snack selection is great and unusual. To top it off you can order alcohol if you choose. For sure a great place to go.
It had a very vintage feel. While I went to watch a movie, the screen was big and the stage was surrounded by curtains for plays. They serve beer & alcohol here, which is nice. The seats were comfortable. I went @ 7pm and it wasn't crowded @ all. It was noisy either.
I loved it
Clean and fun, like stepping back in time,
Beautiful theaters and the owner has great taste. Rocky Horror is always a blast.
I love this theater the retro movie experience is just a fresh experience in the world of overpriced large cinemas. The theaters themselves are breathtaking to even just sit in. I want to see all movies here.
The Kentucky Theater is a Lexington classic. I love this theater. From the downtown locale, gorgeous marquee and the beautifully painted theater rooms a trip to the Kentucky is a short trip back in time. It is by far our family's favorite place to watch a movie. It's also the only theater in the city that is going to be showing something different from the other Box cinemas. If you live in Lexington you need to visit the Kentucky Theater. It's truly one of this city's real treasures.
The Kentucky Theatre is such a cool place! The ambiance of the theatre is remarkable for special events and small concerts. We've been here for a few movies. There summer movie series can be a lot of fun. My only complaint would be the movie selection. There is rarely movies that we want to watch, but I wish they'd have more.
Such an awesome place in our city if Lexington!!
This is a beautiful old world movie palace but with newly upholstered comfy seats. We love this place whenever we come to Lexington...and we see first rate new movies. What could be better than sipping a great bourbon sold at the theatre while comfortably enjoying a first run movie...unless you hit it on classic movie night. This is a winnet experience!!
Lots of fun...
I love this theater..just watched a film in the Rosa Goddard film festival
So happy the Kentucky Theatre has been saved. What a beautiful landmark. Fred Mills so such a pro for all the efforts he makes to keep this place so beautiful. Thanks for a great evening and such a special heartwarming movie. It's a wonderful world. So touching. Thanks again Fred. It's November 27, 2018...Fred Mills recognition day. Congratulations.
They show both classic as well as contemporary movies. My favorite is the organ player before the show. Tip: do not get there too early as you may not be able to go in early if another show still playing and the lobby is small.
One of my favorite places to go see a movie. Better movies than you get at a multiplex.
Always have a wonderful experience here. Great current big titles and they often have things you can't see anywhere else. Plus they always look for ways to support the local community and the arts.
Great theater with a unique selection of movies. The old theaters are ornate and beautiful. This place used to be a performance theater, but was converted to show movies. They serve alcoholic beverages and movie theater snacks at reasonable prices.
Awesome place. I saw the Mr. Roger's movie and it was wonderful.
Love the KY Theatre. It feels like a theater should feel.
Best Rocky Horror Picture Show shadow cast!
One of the best theatre houses in the USA. Built in the 1920s, ornately designed this theatre is well kept since the mid 80s. Great prices wonderful staff.
Good for a date night, different than the regular movie theatre
Rocky horror picture show every Halloween. Love it here
The Kentucky Theater is a magical place full of history. By far one of my favorite things about Lexington.
Best theatre in Lexington for my entire life, by far. Thanks to Fred Mills and staff, this is the place to see movies. Always always our first choice for a movie!
The best of Lexington! A real jewel of a theater with reasonably priced concessions! I love this place!
Very quaint and historic! My wife and I watched "I, Tonya" in what looked to be an Italian alley way and everything was great. I had a beer, we crushed a large popcorn like two starved pitbulls, and watched Tonya Harding (not) bash Nancy Kerrigan's knee cap in. The Kentucky Theatre is truly a treat!
This is a beautiful place to go. Enjoyed the H.D.S. FEST and Lucy Jones does a great job!!
The looks of the theatre was really cool Angel really like the movie interesting place to go
Best theater in Lexington.
Beautiful tradition
Love the Kentucky! Such a great community place that shows great films!
