I love old theaters, especially this one! Also, they have a Guinness Book of World Records Record for the oldest operational theater! Now I guess it can be a tourist attraction if you ever happen to go through Washington, Iowa.

Let me get one thing straight, the atmosphere at this theater is perfect. It's a classic theater, and boy do I miss the days when all theaters were like this and you could watch a nice silent movie for only a nickel. Although it costs a bit more than a nickel now, it is still a much better deal than those robber barons in the big city of Dubuque. You can watch the most current movies and boy did the concessions get me excited! Fresh popped popcorn, a wide selection of candy, and my favorite: dippin dots. However I did have one complaint. My SPAGHETTI was far too buttery and salty! At first I was excited that they served it in a classic popcorn bucket, but I soon realized they didn't give me a fork! My SPAGHETTI quickly became cold and nothing is worse than man handling cold SPAGHETTI! All in all a great restaurant with a neat concept, but their SPAGHETABILITY is severely lacking. Overall I give it 5 and 13/16 starfish.

Beautiful theatre. Great place to watch a movie. My only complaint is that I can't go more often. This is an old building, and has been preserved, or at least it's made to look that way. Always a good time when we go.

Visiting a friend that lives in Washington and we went to the movies. Easy to say that this is the best theater I have ever been to. The staff is very friendly, and I was very impressed on well maintained the facility is.

State Theatre in Washingtion Iowa is the oldest movie theatre in the WORLD! It has been completely remodeled and it is beautiful inside and out. Reasonable prices as far as quanity/value go. They offer 2D or 3D movies.

Best home theatre hands down. It's a single original theatre with great sound quaility. Unlike the boxy new multi theater's in Iowa City that have terrible audio that is usually turns up way too loud . This theater's audio is always on par and you can't not love the theater's beautiful original charm.

Having come to Washington IA from a big city out west, I was a little hesitant to go to the State Theatre, thinking it would be too small, run down, poor quality. I was wonderfully wrong! It's a beautiful theatre! I'm happy to say I don't miss all the bells and whistles of big city movie theatres. This theatre offers great picture and sound quality, leg room, comfy seats, it's clean, and the popcorn is delicious. The staff are friendly and efficient. Best yet, it's affordable. I'm used to $12+ ticket prices and outrageous concessions prices! Imagine my surprise when my total for myself and my 4 kids was less than $40 for the movie and snacks

Much more than I expected from "the oldest continuously running movie theater." Ambience is nice. From time to time the front staff have been a little grouchy, but it's easy to overlook, considering they always have great, current films playing here.

I haven't been in that theater since the 90's. The seats are nicer, along with the bathrooms. Great sound system, but the center voice speaker sounds muffled. There shouldn't be heads walking through the projector's beam either. I'd recommend this historic theater for value over the cinematic experience.

While being able to see movies right in town. They take advantage of people by having a insanely priced soda and popcorn. Not to crazy about having to pay $12 for a small popcorn and a large soda. At that price might as well start sneaking in your own popcorn and soda for a fraction of the price. Will give them more stars when they decide to make their prices more reasonable.

This is a local business and we like to support locals. This theatre is the longest running theatre showing motion pictures in the country. It has been revitalized to as much of its original grandeur as possible. The seating and sound system are top notch and just setting in the theatre takes one back to a simpler time when life was slower and sweeter. This theatre is nostalgic and melancholy and the decorations are from another century that was part of Washington county and Iowa's heritage. It just feels good! Management is friendly, and who doesn't love movie popcorn!!
