My son & I recently went to the Chicago Theatre to see Daniel Tosh, totally loved the atmosphere and overall appearance of the theatre. Totally loved the blast from the past era with a new age twist look the theatre had. I love looking at pictures of how buildings looked in their original design so I was in heaven on y'all lower level looking at the pictures from yesteryear I even been to alot of those places in my childhood, just being there and looking at those pictures made my day. Tosh picked the perfect place to have his show.
Beautiful location! I absolutely love seeing shows at The Chicago Theater! Gorgeous interior decor. I have never felt like I have had a bad seat. Parking is close by and there are often prepaid parking passes offered when you buy tickets.
Took the tour! Highly recommend it. Guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining! Loved it. His name was Sam.
The Marvin Gaye play was phenomenal. They took us to Church too. We met Tony Grant, after to show, who is such a humble person. We took a picture with him (smiling)
Kirk Franklin and Koryn Koryn Hawthorne were great. Love the side door entrance now! Made it fast to enter than in the past.
Good venue, staff is not compiled of people that want to ruin your experience, so that is a huge plus. Seating is kinda crowded but I mean you want to be able to house a lot of people and the theater is old so it makes sense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's still a good place to see a show
Saw phenomenal "Hamilton" musical. Book, lyrics, musical, staging, sets, and performances world class. Truly a unique rap opera that breathes life into our Founders. Highly recommend!
The view of the stage was good. Kirk Franklin was phenomenal. The bathroom and the chairs need an update.
Went to see; U-tuber's "Game Grumps" with my 21year old daughter, drove straight through from Minnesota To Illinois in less then 24 hrs, ugh-da!¿~ Unforgetable. The Theater is Gorgeous and Downtown Chicago is alive and living after Dark.
Must see inside to truly appreciate. Take a tour - the organ is so amazing! Such an incredible history, so beautiful. I can only imagine how neat it would be to see a concert or other event here. Be sure to check it out, even if you're not into theater.
Went to the Vince Gill show last Thursday. Excellent show, excellent theater! We had front row seats in the loge section. The folks that work there are very friendly and helpful. Concessions consists of popcorn, candy, water, soft drinks, beer and liquor. Several stations throughout so if you want something you're never far away. Anything you buy there can be carried into the theater. Parking right around the corner at Wabash-Randolph self parking. Big Walgreens on the corner between the parking garage and the theater. Great location! Great experience! Great show!
Iconic venue. Professional staff to help you at every turn. Attentive security personal makes for a safe environment. Drinks are priced fairly and made well!
Saw Massive Attack there. It was fantastic. Love them! And the Chicago Theatre is simply beautiful
Wow! I went here for a avant concert and i felt at home. Avant is so handsome. Nice place.
I've been to over 20 shows here over the years and never had a bad experience. Staff is always friendly, professional, helpful and quick. No matter how long the line is to get in it always moves fairly quickly as far as a Chicago theater their drink prices are not the worst. The theater itself is beautiful. The bathrooms are clean. The last time I went, Tom Segora, there was a bathroom attendant in there every time I went in continuously cleaning. That guy needs a raise.
Probably my number one greatest place in the world I've had the chance to work & be part of. Had the opportunity to be part of the iconic venue & be around the greatest people that make if feel like a team & most importantly like a family. Being at the legendary Chicago Theatre was never a job but definitely a blessing for the many years I was able to experience & spend at the theatre yet alone just to be part of the historic Chicago Theatre in the heart of down town on state street.. . Thank you to the Madison Square Garden Company for all the great years.
Always a great time. Staff is very nice and helpful. Typical Chicago prices on snacks ($10 for a bottle of water and Snickers bar) but that's expected downtown. Be sure to take time to walk around because it's a truly beautiful theater. The restoration is perfect.
A classic beautiful Chicago iconic theatre that has great acoustics. We loved the ally entrance.
Gorgeous theater venue! Classy, upscale, well maintained. Comfartable environment, User friendly. I was way closer to the performance than I expected to be. I plan to return to future performances here.
Such a beautiful and iconic venue in the heart of the city. I've enjoyed every show I've seen here and the ushers and bartenders all are very nice. Other than the initial congestion to get inside when the doors open, the place is spacious and ornate. I can never get enough of the the detail in the theatre ceiling and architecture. I'm no audiophile, but the sound seems to be really great too.
Beautiful theatre with good views and okay sound, but security was a joke. They were searching bags (fine) but had so few doorways that the crowd went down the block still at the time we were supposed to be seated. Seems like there should be a better plan there.
Gorgeous theater! Seating in lower balcony, view of stage was great!
The Chicago Theatre is a must for any music lover to experience. Please go and experience the tour firsthand. The guides are wonderful and the history is incredible. I was blown away. I saw Rise Against perform there the night before, from the front row, they played their acoustic set, Ghost Note Symphonies along with another punk rock favorite Face to Face. It was one of the absolute best nights of my life and getting to experience the tour the next day was an eye opening experience as well. There isn’t a bad seat in the house.
Gorgeous place. So historical...great venue to see a concert...
An architectural gem. Take some time to explore the many corridors and balconies. There are many beautiful moments hidden away.
The "Dancing Dolls" were fabulous Coach "D" was in rare form!! LOVED IT. The theater is old an every seat is not a good seat, choose wisely. The
Seats are uncomfortable not enough leg room or space even if you spend good money. One size fits all super small popcorn $5, water $5 small plastic cup mix drink $10. I purchased a popcorn, bottle of water, mix drink and they would not give mea cup for my bottle water. Washroom toilet seats super low, like for a child. I was truly disappointed. 3 stars for performances not the theater
I attended a concert here by my favorite singer in the world and that is Miss Diana Ross King was making and I have seen her now maybe 20 times and her career this by Fall was one of the best concert I've ever been to and I think it was because I had some great sheets I was in the fifth aisle 6 row very up-close-and-personal she was imperfect voice she always chat to talk with the audience this was the best outing I've had this year if you've never seen Diana Ross live in concert you owe it to yourself don't miss this great talent
This a long time establishment in the downtown Chicago area. Saw many a movie here over the years. It's a beautiful piece of Chicago history. I think anyone visiting the Chicago Loop should check this theater out.
Love the Chicago Theater. It was very easy to get in, their drinks and snacks available have a lot to choose from. They have Spirits, wine, candy, popcorn. Probably would appreciate if they had some healthier selections like Luna bars or some gluten-free options. There is not a bad seat in this house! The sound and Acoustics were excellent we saw Ben Platt here for his inaugural night in his multi-city tour and it was absolutely magical! We have seen other performers here as well and appreciate that there is plenty of parking right near the theater and lots of places to eat within walking distance.
Awesome craft work on the inetrior. This place is so grand and gives you the awe inspiring feeling.
Chicago born and raised and this was my first time coming here and it was great! Took my mom to see Pride & Joy: The Marvin Gaye musical for a belated birthday, which was wonderful! Will definitely come back.
wonderful crew at play, service is five stars what else I need on my weekend !! Netflix killer lol
Seats are uncomfortable. No leg room for people to get past you. Sound is amazing and it is a beautiful theater!
I found sitting in the balcony still had a good view of the stage. Visited before and had awesome seats on both occasion.
Beautiful atmosphere. Crowd of people range from the kind of music you prefer. Saw Boney James live. He was amazing! Most of the staff was helpful and professional. They have candy, popcorn and alcoholic drinks. The place was very clean over all. I will definitely go back again.
Every time I attend a show here, I appreciate this unique venue more. Entry is overseen by considerate security staff. Abundant ushers guide patrons to their seats. The concessions are adequately stocked, and overseen by competent and personable staff. There are enough restrooms, and they are clean and attractive. Aesthetically, the place is dripping with treats for the eyes. The sound is really quite good. Seating can be amazing. Tonight we were seated on the mezzanine, in a booth, and I highly recommend these seats to all who can handle a stair or three. We had great sight lines. Had the folks in the seats in front of us opted to stand for the show (and its duration) we would not have been forced to follow suit, as our sight lines were absolutely clear. These are just a few observations. I really, really, really recommend the mezzanine for unobstructed viewing. I adore the decor and am grateful everytime I enter the place that it has been preserved. I love the Chicago Theater and consider it an historical treasure, as well as, an exceptional venue.
I've been here countless times. But this time I saw Al Green here in box seats Section H. I enjoyed the space very much and would recommend this seating. Great sound. Al Green was flipping unreal!
Our production was a bit of a let-down (geared towards younger audience), but what we missed on the show, was more than made-up by the theater. We took a quick tour around while exiting afterwards, and it very well lives up to its fame. Grand historical gem.
Quality theater! Line moved quickly and staff were helpful. Theater itself was visually and acoustically pleasing. Parking is expensive but it is Chicago.
Beautiful place. Ancient and cool
Such a fun venue. So many different shows here for all ages and genres. The staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. Find a show to see here as soon as you can!
Absolutely amazing! The concessions were good, the building was beautiful!! I wish i could go back every week!
Saw Earth Wind & Fire there. The place is still beautiful and has such a nostalgic feel to it!
Went to the Chicago Theatre to see Nick Offerman (he is definitely not Ron Swanson). The show was wonderful, as was the venue. If you have the opportunity to see Nick Offerman, I highly suggest doing it, because damn. As for the venue, it is a beautiful building with a great deal of classical architecture. The staff were courteous and extremely helpful. All said and done, this is a great venue. As people who routinely see live shows of any type know, a venue can enhance or ruin your experience. The Chicago Theatre certainly enhanced my experience.
this theatre is absolutely gorgeous, parking wasn't too bad at all either. the shows i've been to here have been intimate and memorable and i can't wait to go back. it's a lovely setting to see your favorite bands in!
Saw HDTGM here & had a great time, probably need to do a better job checking tickets show started as people were still in the line to get into the building.
Great venue. Absolutely gorgeous. Only got four stars because of lack of signage... Incredible confusing finding seating and all the ushers looked stressed and overworked, almost everyone needed help finding their seat. Also looks like it could use a bit of renovation, pealing ceilings and walls. Other than that, it was a great place to see a show and I'll definitely come back.
This is a really pretty theater. It is a fairly intimate setting. We saw Diana Ross here recently and the the acuoustics were great (she was fantastic!). If you have anyone in our party that is handicapped or has problems climbing stairs I would recommend getting floor seats. they do have a couple elevators, but this place was built a long time ago so the elevators are small and slow. Otherwise we loved the venue.
The acoustics are great, sound system is very good, light shows can be overwhelming, but an intimate space where there's hardly a bad seat in the house. Some are just better than others.
One of my favorite venues. Saw Wicked here as well as a few concerts and comedy shows. Not a bad seat in the house unless you are near the columns. Sitting in the balcony can be challenging for some with vertigo. It's pretty steep up there, so beware.
One of my favourite venues in Chicago; it’s got an old world charm which really adds to the experience. Only caveat, chairs are not built for modern audiences - seating is pretty tight for the taller or more well built among us!
If your favorite band is coming to play here, you'd be a fool not to go see them. No bad seats, Great Sound, I think it's the best place to see a concert in the city of Chicago.
I was there for a Bryan Ferry concert. It is the perfect place for concerts. Good sight lines and great sound. I have attended many concerts there over the decades. I had also attended there when movies were shown decades ago. This is a grand theatre.
Attending special events at this theater is nothing to be afraid of. The building is beautiful, the staff friendly, and acoustics are perfect. Just be prepared for a slow exit as most aisles are fairly narrow and the winding staircases tend to funnel people into limited exit routes.
I love this theatre so much. It is old and classic and wonderful. It has such a good vibe. It's a good venue for live performances, and really pretty much anything. The seating is moderately comfortable, enough so to get you through an evening/event. There really isn't a bad seat, even if you're in the back. The decor has an older feel, which I find to be lovely. To me, it's one of the best in the city, if not the best. It's conveniently located and there is a bus stop that lets you off right across the street.
The Chicago Theater is a masterpiece. The sound was pristine. Van Morrison was utterly amazing. His voice blending with his fabulous back up band was mesmerizing. I wish we could go back there and listen to him in that special theater over and over again. Spiritual experience.
Beautiful theatre, check. Concession stand prices you'd expect, check. Tight seating but all views are good, check. Yep, it's an old Chicago theatre!
One of my favorite venues. Saw Wicked here as well as a few concerts and comedy shows. Not a bad seat in the house unless you are near the columns. Sitting in the balcony can be challenging for some with vertigo. It's pretty steep up there, so beware.
Had an amazing experience here at the Chicago theater.. very nice and elegant atmosphere. Came here to see Daniel Tosh.. Very funny.. Entry to the theater was very fast and the staff was very polite and helpful.. Will definitely be back again..
Beautiful venue, bartenders and staff are very polite and professional.
So beautiful, the best part about my trip to Chicago, a nice small theater with great acoustics. I look forward to the next show I see here. You can also eat, and drink alcohol here too.
Only ever see stand up comedians here but it's a good venue for that. Prices of most shows and drinks inside are little expensive but if you're looking to have a fancy night on the town and want to see a show it's a good venue and easy access from public transportation
My favorite theatre in the world! Simply magical and the best sound!
This place offers such an amazing experience. Absolutely beautiful venue, both internally and externally. We loved attending shows here, but also walking by it at night seeing everything lit up. Absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to go to some more shows here. 5 stars!
It was my first time here at the Chicago Theatre. I came to see Avril Lavigne. I absolutely loved the service here. They had popcorn, drinks, and merchandise. The staff was friendly too. I would definitely come back for another concert or show!
ICONIC!! CAN'T GO TO CHICAGO AND NOT VISIT THIS BEAUTIFUL ARCHITECTURAL PLACE.
Beautiful theatre built in 1921. Wonderful accoustics. Well located in downtown Chicago. Great selection of shows and concerts to see.
This theater is beautiful. Lots of stations for drinks, and the ushers are very helpful. Highly recommend.
It's a beautiful venue! I absolutely loved it! Excellent customer service, ambiance is perfect. I truly enjoyed the concert. I had a great time!!
Beautiful Theatre, first time at this theatre. We purchased 3 tickets at Box 1 seats 13-15-17. There are no speakers there and you could not hear anything at all from live comedy show. The sound directs only straight. We left the live comedy show in the middle of it because we could not hear the jokes, my husband spoke to the Manager Trey and he very kindly seated us in the middle where you could hear the comedian. I sincerely cannot thank the Manager Trey for turning a disappointing night into a positive one. We were able to hear the other half of the comedy concert and I am truly appreciative that he cared enough to not let us leave and make sure we enjoyed the rest of the comedy concert. Thank you!
Great theater and easy to get in and out of. Good location in the city. Seeing Pod Save America there was fantastic!
This place is visually stunning and Mark Knopfler performance was exceptional.
It was awesome seeing Ben Rector here in the fall. This is an easy theater to get in and out of, you never feel squashed! The theater retains the beautiful architecture and style of when it was originally built. Great venue for smaller concerts in the heart of downtown Chicago. Near many restaurants and shopping.
Just to be around this place makes me feel great, it’s really touchy building and energy. Love the shows that I have seen here. Always a celebration when come to this place. Definetly a benefit of the Chicago city
I love the architecture and the details in the theater. I sat in 2L row S on the main floor and had a pretty good view of the stage.
It was BEAUTIFUL. My friend and I arrived for a concert and when we got there we didn't realize the merchandise line started 20 minutes before we got there.. And it wrapped around the whole building. While in line we noticed how beautiful and old everything was. It was a really pretty place and I highly recommend going if you're ever in Chicago! (go see a concert or play!)
Beautiful and any ticket you buy you'll have an amazing view
A Great Place To Go See Different Kinds Of "Live" Stage Shows. You Get Concerts, Comedy, Arts, Children, Etc. Lots Of Security & Bars For Drinks. Great Ambiance & Friendly Outgoing People At A Price You Can Afford.
Beautiful theater, kept up well throughout the years. However please please please enforce the cell phone policy. I just went to see Bryan Ferry and while it was a wonderful show I did not pay $200 to watch the show through someone else’s tiny screen.
great show. the theater is beautiful. all the details on every post, pillar and ceiling. the box seats are awesome. great view of the stage and sound. they have ample parking in the area so even when your driving in you can find a spot quickly. 5 stars all the way!
Beautiful theater. Just enjoyed the Earth Wind and Fire Concert recently. Awesome seats!!
Went for a tour with Richard. He made the tour so much more interesting and was so knowledgeable. For me, he made the experience memorable.
Saw JVN here and was blown away by the beauty of the theatre. I work for a historic theatre myself so I could appreciate the hard work they put into it. Congrats! Bartenders were outstanding and ushers were more than helpful.
I recently attended a sold out Bryan Ferry concert. Seated three rows back, center section, end seats off the aisle, in the second balcony. (The seats would have been great had it not been for some dingbat in front of me who must've thought she was in a talent show. The arm waving and gestures were too much!) Aside from that, the acoustics were VERY good, and the lighting was awesome. Snacks and beverages were available for purchase before the concert. Popcorn, candy, beer and wine. As far as the theater itself goes...an overall good experience.
Amazingly beautiful theatre! I know this place doesn’t need any reviews. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Good views. Great venue in a great location.
The marvin Gaye show was excellent. Also the ushers were helpful. We had good seats to see the show.
great place to visit. really good build up schedule over all those years . impressive
The classic theater for touring acts seeking crowds of a few thousand. This is where the best national comics play when coming to Chicago. Lots of other artists perform here as well. Amazing classically decorated with ornate gold woodwork. Can’t be beat.
Our experience was great but floor carpeting is old, ugly, & dirty looking. I'm sure such a prestigious establishment can invest in new carpeting. Besides, it's long over due
The theatre is phenomenal. My big concern is the balcony’s safety . I was at the Avril Lavigne concert and the ground was floor was moving with the people , I thought we’d were going to cave in ! Is it safe? Other than that it is so beautiful and well run !
A Chicago Landmark But definitely could use some renovations. This building has some great architectural features but is not the most comfortable place. Had seats on the main floor and the cushions were almost level with the floor....the padding is pretty much non existent. The process for getting everyone in the building and into the seats seems to work pretty efficiently and the staff were smiling and friendly.
Love Nick Offerman. This theater is also so beautiful.
Missed the first half of the show because they were letting people in 45 minutes after the show started. People talking very loud disrupting everyone else, ushers running up and down isles telling people to turn off there phones. I have seen thousands of plays and have never experienced anything like it.
The Marvin Gaye Musical, Pride & Joy was great! Beautifully Executed !! I enjoyed every bit of the show. HOWEVER, there were no programs, as to identify who were the singers/actors. Wait, it gets worse! Tickets issued to Terrence Coon?? I have no idea as to who he is!!! We sat in section LOGEIR BB 104 A and 102. The Venue was disgustingly dirty!! The carpet is in need of replacement., No it can not be cleaned! Flooring around the carpet showed a long time accumulation of filth that would take a professional more than one treatment to remove. This is not just popcorn trash left by the previous show attendants. This theater should be closed !!!
Staff was very nice and helpful. Seats were easy to find. I had a wonderful experience.
This seems to be the venue for nearly every show I attend lately. Granted, this is apparently due to the fact that the podcasting community has spread the word as to its quality. Sound and sight lines are good, theater is clean and the ushers are helpful, polite and plentiful. Concessions are predictably expensive, but that seems to be any venue these days (at least they take cards). Only negative is that the restrooms are limited and in need of modernization. Otherwise, a great venue.
This place is magic! And Richard, the guide, is amazing. He explained us the history of the theatre, show us the backstage and even the signatures of artists that have performed here (Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Prince and many others). Really, one of the best things of chicago
Service team are so polite and cordial. My only complaint is the women's bathroom. It's set up like an on display stage while every one in line is watching you. No privacy. Your facing a line as soon as u step out of the stall.
The Chicago theater is absolutely beautiful! I had seats a bit higher up and still had a great view of the stage! They serve alcohol which is always a plus! The men's bathroom was very clean as well. The ornate detailing of the ceiling is a treat in of itself. I would highly recommend seeing a show here. Kathleen Madigan was awesome!
Beautiful theater. Not s bad seat in the place
Occasionally the theater is more impressive than whatever's on stage. Truthfully, this theatre is always worth seeing, especially if you're into architecture. The city would not be the same without it. Whether you see a show, or take the tour, you owe it to yourself to see this place at least once because they don't build 'em like this anymore. (The security staff can be a bit unpleasant sometimes, but I guess that's part of the job.)
Have thoroughly enjoyed every show I've seen here! Parking seems plentiful in the area and not crazily priced when it’s only for the evening. Prices for drinks could be lower as is the case at most music venues.
Great venue to see artist but seats are pretty small, tickets are a bit pricey.
You really have to go inside to appreciate the truly unique architecture of this theater. You could spend hours just looking at all the fine details. Will visit again.
Theater was beautiful. Even as a balcony monster, I could see the stage clearly. Only complaint is the Bathroom but it might have been just because the late show and upper balcony seats, but the floor was piss covered and sticky.
Acoustics were great...seating was good although we sat on the back row but on the main floor! Can see the stage perfectly well,,,but bring your binoculars if you want an up close view!
Moderately small venue with excellent sound and a great light show.
I have watched a few concerts here over the years. Always worth it. One of the top videos I've ever been to. The wine wasn't the best but I'm not a wine drinker. Cocktails would be nice. Lol. And don't buy your tickets from scalpers in the streets. The Chicago PD is not too nice about that.
We visited the Chicago Theater for the first time to see NPR's Wow in the World show live. The theater was beautiful! I was surprised to find that in addition to light snacks and soft drinks, they also served beer and wine. Theater seating was good; seating comfortable with enough leg room for me (6' 1"). Acrostics were excellent; we could clearly hear the performance even from the back of the room.
We love this venue. The architecture is awesome. All around a great place to see a show. I have been there a couple times never had a bad seat.
Went to a concert and was a little disappointed in the sound quality. The music was great but I was often frustrated with the vocal mikes and monitor output. If I didn't already know most of the songs, I wouldn't even know what I was listening to. Makes for only a semi enjoyable time. Also, if you sell drinks in plastic cups, there should always be lids available upon request. Also, Handicapped seating should be available upon request when purchasing tickets online.
Gorgeous theater! Even the top balcony seats were enjoyable!
I attended a recent play - Pride and Joy. The play was awesome! However the bathroom situation was a little crazy. I went to the lower level and the wait was 20 mins. Suggestions: remove the attendant-there is no value in that-that took up time and space it didn’t move the line faster. Put in more stalls, please. The Chicago theatre
They made us go through metal detector, which caused a long line outside. The theater is in very poor condition, the floor is uneven. The seats should be updated. The carpets need to be replaced. It just doesn't look nice at all. I was sad to The Chicago Theater in such a state of decline. I've seen so many amazing artist perform there over the years. And I away admired the beauty of the venue but not tonight at the Gladys Knight show.
Huge structure with elegant chandeliers and great sound system. However, there is only 1
What a fantastic theatre , the architecture is great to see , a building with a lot of history which looks to be well maintained , it could do with a bit of money spending on the bathroom facilities which don't look period they just look old and run down . Overall though a great theatre and well worth going to if your in town to see if someone is appearing that you would like to see as we did , we ended up going to see the band squeeze who we had never had the opportunity to see in England and they didn't disappoint .
