We've got the opinions of real people like you who have information of the products and services of Gene Siskel Film Center (Movie Theater) in the area close to the state of Illinois.
At present the business gets a rating of 4.7 stars over 5 and the score is based on 460 reviews.
You may have noticed that the average score it has is virtually the highest, and it is founded on a high number of feddbacks, so we may be pretty sure that the evaluation is quite credible. If there are many people who bothered to give their feddback when they are pleased, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place evaluations when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Movie theater.
So lovely. I know I’ll be back!
Where you can watch old movies, foreign movies and other classics. Love this place right in the center of downtown
Lovely there, all the amenities
The best! If you're interested in film this is the place to go. Conveniently located on State Street and there are films of all sorts.
Not the most comfortable or spacious of theatres, but it does have a much better selection of films over the standard Hollywood fare.
Great smaller theatre
Great venue in Chicago for all the films you will not see in the commercial theatres. Great viewing conditions and concessions.
Great place to see some excellent movies with a snack bar.
Comfortable movie viewing, great popcorn.
It's like a more conveniently located Music Box.
Biased bc I work there..
I watched Spirited Away here and I didn't know the movie would have such a new feeling watching it on the big screen. Wonderful memory
Saw a movie it was really good. Super small. Would go back on a date or with a friend.
Underwhelming, & had a strong odor of piss.
Great place and very cozy. Saw Miles Davis there and it was great. Easy place to find and safe.
Great place to see unique films The film that we saw was sold out but they put us on a waiting list because some people who buy their tickets ahead don't show up so we were able to get in for free, the staff there are very accommodating
Great place to see documentaries and international films. Last week was my first visit to the theater, I found the staff personable and the theater clean. I will definitely return.
It was difficult to find cause my gps was acting stupid.
Fine films, often presented with talk-backs with directors afterwards. Comfortable seats, helpful box office staff, affordable memberships, nice snack bar.
I was pleasantly surprised that they had the Breadwinner. This was the only theater that was showing it in the whole Chicago Area. Will definitely come back. I like that you can link their calendar with you google calendar.
If you are looking for foreign or indie films, this is the place to go.
Almost intimate setting. We had fun viewing an awesome Agnes Varda film!
Fun! Saw the film of Fleabag. Even our back row seats were close enough to see the whole screen. Also a nice incline so I could see over the tall people in front of me. My tall husband had enough leg room too.
Saw the Spock documentary For The Love Of Spock. His son skyped to the theater afterwords. Was a great experience. Staff was friendly. Everything worked.
Quality movies Universal audience great atmosphere
Great place to showcase young artists work,We loved it. Our Grandaughters, Thesis Animation, from SAIC, was shown their and we were their to cheer her on.
Spend - Wonderful experience of film "War at Home," and a panel discussion. Clean and spacious facility. Small theater good for discussions. Plenty of room where you can meet with a group before or after your film. Staff were great and resourceful. Nice selection of snacks, drinks, and popcorn. Reasonably priced for a theater and a beautiful facility. My Raisinets were kind of old though (that is my only critique.) Make this your next date night. Give me a thumbs up if you found my review helpful.
This is one of my favorite places in the city. They have movie you can't get anywhere else. They also have great art exhibited which is a nice bonus.
Keep being an awesome outlet for real cinema
Great people and wonderful location.
My favorite place in the city for independent and foreign films. Best membership too. If you like movies become a member. Best money spent supporting a great organization.
The best in film!
Small and intimate theater. I was here most recently to see the Toni Morrison documentary. It was lovely.
Pretty artsy fartsy theater. Good vibes.
Great films you won't see anywhere else. Good concessions too.
Saw the cat rescuers. Comfortable, intimate theater.
Great mix of high-quality independent films. Comfortable setting. Old seating, but place is undergoing renovations this winter.
High quality premieres
Amazing customer service, thanks Jake!
Women of the Now at the premiere of Rendezvous in Chicago.
I love this theater. They always have the best art, independent, and foreign films. I'm always recommending it to friends.
Awesome place.
Great selection of movies, but get there early if you want a good seat. I mean, really early!
My favorite place to see independent films and right in the heart of Chicago. They also sell some alcoholic beverages which is nice. Crowd is always respectful and nice. Atmosphere is classy and not stuffy.
Great movie theatre offering unique films. Highly recommend!
Nice, ambient theatre and a great place to watch documentaries and indie films
Conveniently located in the Loop, this is a wonderful place to see a wide variety of unique films you won't find at your local multiplex.
Nicwe theater overall!
Never got a chance to see a film here but the entrance view from the street caught my attention. Beautiful nostalgic sign and facade. Very historic looking.
This is my second time here and I really love this place. It's the perfect setting for unconventional films.
Went for a film festival. The new seats are incredibly comfortable.
Nice place for independent and foreign movie fans
Great place for off the circuit movies. The theaters are great.
Nice movie theater, kinda vintage.
No place to park I had to spend over 50 in parking..in AMC you get your ticket validated not here
I really enjoyed the inside! Interesting to have a theater on the second floor. I like the cafe style tables, and the theater itself have very comfortable seating. The only downside is that the movie screening rooms are on the smaller side...but I enjoy the variety in films offered here! A great spot to visit!!
Attended the Black Harvest Film Festival this year and it was simply wonderful. I seldom eat popcorn but for some reason I couldn't stop eating the popcorn there. I like the idea that they keep the ladies bathrooms clean too no matter how busy it gets.
Great for those rare and hard to find art films. The staff is friendly. Be sure to get to the box office earlier on the weekends and for limited runs, as tickets go fast, and the theaters (only 2) are small.
Great movies not shown elsewhere.
This theater is run by the School of the Art Institute and is exactly what you would imagine from that institution. Lots of good contemporary, foreign, experimental, and classic films and documentaries. Some of the movies are overrated and the artist programs are hit of miss either very inspiring or pretentious and dull. Overall this is a reasonably priced small upscale theater.
Great host of the Black Harvest Film Festival
Close to the train in the beautiful Chicago downtown. A perfect comfy place to watch excellent movie selection.
Great selection of movies that you won't see at the major theater chains. Fresh popcorn, candy, soda and beer available.
It's a wonderful place to see outstanding cinema.
Maybe I'm crazy, but when I am paying for a service, I expect people to be a lot friendlier to me. The staff here are not that wonderful. I only recommend going to this theater if you can't find another one in the city playing your movie. On the upside, at least they serve wine and beer to help you forget about the awful service you receive.
Good for limited release and festival movies, dated amenities but I guess that's expected for art house theaters
Great place for foreign movies if you are tired of Hollywood
Smaller Film Center that shows more indie, classic, and foreign films (as well as documentaries). Very cozy and nice place with reasonable pricing for most showings. Saw a documentary film that included a Q&A with the Director afterwards. Two thumbs up!
It's one the best cinemas in Chicago. I'm never disappointed by the quality of the movies that are shown here. Easy walk from work to catch a nice indie film.
Obviously the main appeal here is that they show movies that you aren't going to find at other theaters. Coming here was a great experience overall. The seats, although not flashy, were comfortable enough, and drinks were not particularly overpriced. The bartender and host were both corteous and professional, and it was extremely enjoyable viewing original art while in the lobby.
So fun and quaint. The seats are comfortable and the popcorn doesnt cost $37 for a small, I think it was $8 for a large box of pop corn. Crazy right? I got a mocha for the movie for $4 and she made it on the spot and poured it into a bathtub sized to-go cup. It was awesome. Theater quality was great and the movie line ups are very good. This will be an ongoing date night for my wife and I.
Very nice theater showcasing foreign and independent films. Highly recommended to catch a good film and or documentary.
Small theatre that showcases unique films that you won't see in the bigger theatres. This place is close to several parking garages, but the best way is on the train Lake/state stops. It's across the Chicago theatre.
New seats! Same wonderful atmosphere! I just love the staff! Follow them on IG @filmcenter
Wonderful movie experience. Can't get screenings of a lot of these movies elsewhere. I'm very thankful for the opportunity to attend there.
Quaint, intimate theaters with stage area & podium for after screening interviews with movie producers, directors, actors, etc., at front of theater screening rooms. On site Ticket booth for purchases & will call, refreshment counter for popcorn , water, soda, limited beer & wine selection, ADA elevator for wheel chair accessibility & accommodation.
Good movies -- independent films, foreign films, one-off screenings, 35mm -- friendly staff, laid-back atmosphere, decent selection of beers and wines at the concession stand -- plus popcorn, coffee, tea, and popcorn. Plus projectionists who know how to project films.
Great for independent movies and cheap ticket prices. Good for dates, grab a coffee before a movie and check out the gallery on the second floor.
Best Movies In Chicago are shown here!
Helpful staff, great movie, nice facility.
Like movies black culture
good independent and foreign films, comfortable lounge, sophisticated audience
It's a good place for school fields trips and my experience was goid. Not very cozy seating for a theater.
A great place in the middle of the Loop to catch interesting and unique films. Clean and spacious theaters with excellent projection and color; sound quality is not a problem at all. Lots of areas for post-viewing receptions or just waiting. The restrooms are quite tidy. I come annually for the Black Harvest Film Festival. Customer service with the ticket counter staff could improve quite a bit, though.
This must be a new arm of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and I like it! Right in the heart of Chicago's theater district, the location is on point. They offer a great diversity of commercial and indie films and the theaters are smaller and more cozy. I went here to see the Paraguayan film "7 Boxes" and would consider coming back, for sure!
This is a little jewel in the heart of the city for movie fans that are looking for really special films-NOT your blockbusters. It's definitely worth joining to get all the discounts!
This is one of the good theaters that show documentaries and movies that are meant to watch. This last time we came to see brimstone and glory and we won't have seen the documentary anywhere else. The place is welcoming. They have a cafeteria and chairs to relax before or after the movie. There are two screens and the chairs are comfortable. They also offer discounted parking near by. Will come and see more movies or documentaries.
Nice theater, terrible online ticketing system.
Movies you would never get to see otherwise
A cozy little theater for mostly independent films and events. A wonderful space and tribute to Gene Siskel. The variety of movies is great, since they show a lot of indie films, documentaries, and films that aren't typically shown along with blockbuster hits. The location is great as well. Transportation, shopping, and restaurants are nearby so you can make a day (or night) of visiting the film center.
They show films other than the action studio blockbusters. Gives us a good choice of viewing options
I have been here with my family a couple of times, and it was wonderful! First of all, the location is fabulous. Across the street is the Chicago Theater with its huge light-up sign. Right next door to the Film Centre is a local news affiliate, where you can watch the news readers at their desk, plus there are TVs in the window which display what is on that television channel at the moment. Next to that is a local ESPN (sports radio and television) affiliate, where you can likewise watch the hosts at their desk from the street outside. Then there is the Film Center itself. They play many foreign and independent films, and often have the director or another important person for the movie visit and have a question-and-answer session after the film, as part of their Movie Club. When I saw the Tom of Finland biopic last week, they had had the director (a Finn himself, and so not able to be there in person) host a Q&A over Skype. I wasn't able to attend that particular screening, I went on the last night of its run. I was amazed by the turnout of the local Leather community even on the last night, many in their full regalia... And the man who took our tickets was himself a Leather boy, wearing a cute arm cuff. The other people working that night also appeared to be members of the LGBT+ community, which felt really good... Like the audience, the hosts, and the filmmaker were all "one big family." I also found customer service to be excellent, I had difficulty buying my tickets online and then getting in touch with anyone, as it was after business hours, and the final showing of the movie I wanted to see was the next evening. I sent out an (unfortunately rather catty) email, and got a response early the next day, and attempt to help me buy a ticket. Fortunately, I was able to have a friend buy the tickets for me, but I really appreciated it and felt bad about letting my irritation show in my initial email. The only warning I have is that most, if not all, films have only one showing per night, and I think there are only two films screened at a time. This means that many films sell out quickly and so I recommend buying tickets ahead of time. It would be very disappointing to arrive and the show is sold out!
Convenient location in downtown Chicago. Reasonable price, nice and cozy atmospher.
The Siskel Center brings amazing films to Chicago that you won't find anywhere else in the city. The audience consists of people who are there to see the film, not talk to their friends or view their cell phones. The concession stand includes great beer and wine. The Film Center is a gem.
Cozy, small
Where is the 10-Star Rating option? Film Lovers Love Den...
I love this place! I say in on a discussion with a film maker and it was wonderful! Large enough yet intimate with great customer service. I will be looking into a membership!
I love movies, it is an intimate place to watch movies and have a conversation about what you saw and how it made you feel. Sometimes there is a question and answer session with the creators.
Awesome offbeat films that make you think for a change!
Great venue for top notch independent films
One of my very favorite places in Chicago.
The place to go for foreign films, new movies, occasionally great film noir, etc.
Nice theater. It was kinda warm and humid inside. I dont knowing the AC was just not on or didnt work.
Unbelievable time here. I highly recommend that people check the calendar so that you can build some amazing memories as I had with family members and Friends.
Saw the excellent movie Hare Krishna. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. It is an amazing movie.
theater's are small, but the seating is close. Comfy seats but not stadium seating. But you can still see the screen irregardless. Great off-the-map movies, documentaries, foreign films, and experimental films no one else would have except the Siskel. Not even Music box or Landmark. Upscale with reasonable prices, discounts if your a student.
Awesome place
Great venue for lovers of international and independent film.
The Siskel is a wonderful place to see films that have made significant impact in the world of film or that are not as widely shown. I've seen some wonderful older movies here that are hard to find. I know they recently completed renovations, and I'm excited to see it in it's new state.
One of a kind. This is a wonderfully curated movie house. The very definition of a Art House theater. You cannot see the movies that they show here anyplace else. Foreign films, documentary films, independent films, classic Hollywood etc. This is a cinephile's dream. Become a member and you get great discounts and you help support the place. Win win. Warning though. The main theater is about 10 times better (roughly speaking) than the auxiliary theater. But what are you going to do about it.
great resource for Chicago a little peeved that with all our wonderful Cinemas film festivals film societies we have to wait almost two months after the film premiered on both coasts
Wife used to come here a lot for screenings of older films.
Small theater but comfortable. I loved the two documentaries I got to see in the past weeks. Seats were comfortable
A wonderful theater. Seating a bit tight.
My genes do not like the Gene Siskel Film Center. It's the same smell throughout the years in various events. Shockingly, it's the only bldg with this common area smell.
I went to the Siskel Center tonight to purchase tickets for Hollywood on State & was treated very poorly by an unprofessional & indifferent staff. I informed them that I wanted to buy 4 VIP tickets for Hollywood on State & a woman said "sorry the cutoff was yesterday" & immediately turned away. I was stunned. I then stepped away to check the website to see if tickets were available, which they seemed to be so I returned to the box office to make my purchase. A cashier said he couldnt sell them to me & directed me to his manager which was the same woman who turned me away previously. I stated again that I wanted to purchase 4 VIP tickets & was denied. She offered me her bossses email address & I asked her to phone her instead which to me makes more sense considering the event is less than 24hrs away. Yet again she did not accommodate my request, refusing an $800 sale. I left to email her boss Jean Aubin. I have not received a response or explanation.
Always great seeing a movie here. And the movies they play are great.
I love the diversity of films shown. There is always something for everyone at the Siskel Film Center!
Seats are smaller/older compared to the couch like seats you find at theaters now. They serve wine by the glass or beer. You'd go here for the movie selection and not the customer experience.
I've been here twice (to see death in venice and carmen and lola) and I really like this theater! It's very clean and a good place to watch foreign movies!
I. LOVE. THIS THEATER'S. MINDFUL CURATION.
Good movies, nice space!
About the nicest place to see top movies. You can join and it’s a great value. I’m not a movie geek myself but my wife is and she always leaves here with a smile on her face. Happy wife, happy life. And by the way water is FREE!!!
I got a nice video of the place
Been there 3Xs!! It's a small nice size room. Very comfortable clean warm seating room. Bathrms clean. People are polite and respectful to others. Prices are high for refreshments as usual. They serve wine not sure if allowed in theater?? All the movies I've seen have been amazing!! Will diffinently be returning with other friends!!
Love this place! Showings of great independent quality movies, cozy spot, great selection, great prices. You have to see a movie here!
A program of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Siskel shows a variety of classics, foreign films, themed film series, and other types of presentations. Seats are comfortable and spacious. There is a lounge area with tables and chairs by the concession stand, which sells a variety of items, including beer. Events occasionally include a pre- or post-presentation lecture with an individual associated with the film or another expert. The theater is conveniently located by the Lake and State L stop.
Beautiful theater, excellent film, "The Area" i saw.
Excellent venue with great movies. Enjoyed the various film festivals they have from time to time.
Movies you typically can't see elsewhere. Modern, comfortable, good accoustics.
Great small theater with good events and you can even meet and talk to some of the actors and directors. They usually specialize in lesser known movies and locally made movies and short films. They also usually have question and answer sessions after movies.
I enjoyed the entire experience!!!
Thee Debauchery Ball was awesome!
One of my favorite theaters in the city. Different movies every week, most have such limited releases I don't know where else I would see them.
Love this place. Fantastic selection of independent, documentary and foreign films. Anyone who likes film should be a member.
Very cool place, especially during summer festival season!
Toni Morrison documentary Was A WOW. Don't miss it
Great for independent and foreign films. Not your typical Hollywood theater
One of my favorites for harder to find cinema
Great place to see anything foreign/documentary/arthouse/experimental - in other words, non-blockbuster.
Small, intimate theater. Super friendly staff. Wonderful screening selections. A+ from me.
Excellent theater space, always showing both new and old art house film's. A must visit location for film buffs
Hands down one of the best special event spaces in Chicago. I hosted two events there for Social Media Week Chicago and the staff was great. The attendees were in love with the comfy seats, the great acoustics in the theater and overall vibe of the space.
The off beat films u want to see are here.. Good hard working Indy personal films.. No big budget commercial attention grabbing full of fluff moves here
If you love documentaries and independent film this is the place for you. Tickets are $12, great concession stand with beer and wine. They have a great Film Festival during the summer, the Black Harvest Film Fest.
Decent place to catch a quality film. Prices of concessions are reasonable (i.e. non-exorbitant) and my screen, though small, was generally conducive to a pleasant viewing experience.
For true film lovers and cinephiles
I fell asleep but it was a good movie..
Good thought provoking fulms
Great location and is constructed with the purpose of watching movies, I was there for the black Harvest Film Festival and had a wonderful group discussion or the panel of Summer Chicago's leading art patrons. I definitely plan to go back because they have quite a repertoire of film choices
One of the best Film theaters in town, if not the country. A location that must be visited and experienced for any aficionados of great cinema. Highly recommended
This was a great theater to stop in for our only night in Chicago. We watched the Maya Angelou documentary and were welcomed warmly with food provided by community partners. Overall it was a comfortable and high quality cinema experience.
If you're interested in the kind of movies that don't make it into normal theaters, keep an eye in Gene Siskel's calendar. Such a wide variety of fascinating stuff that I usually didn't even know about beforehand.
Crucially important institution showing historically important films you may miss or not become aware of otherwise. Three cheers!!!
Outstanding venue and location. The seats are not as comfortable as I might have liked, but it was a great experience. There are no obstructions to the screen, the audio/sound reinforcement/Dobly is great and the assembled audience seems to be conscientious, respectful and totally relaxed. The lobby is a nice, moderately sized area with chairs and tables when you can enjoy a snack, buy paraphernalia and engage others. Great place to see any movie, let alone first run or Indies.
Great place to catch some art house movies. Highly recommended.
I like the selection of these movies. The place has a nice view. The snacks are ni e, hope they could have bigger popcorns. The theater is big and with high sound quality. Seats were normal comfortable.
