Great experience in this small town theater! Staff was helpful and friendly and they play the best movies unlike Wilton's cinema that seems to cater to children and the elderly.

Nice old movie theater feel. Where celebs watch movies incognito. Mostly an older crowd. Nice date movie place lots of other places to drink and grab a bite to o eat.

Movie selection is boring and seats are very uncomfortable If you live in Ridgefield, Wilton, Norwalk, etc. - stay there.

The New Canaan Playhouse on Elm Street in New Canaan is a wonderful theater with distinctive architecture, an historic theater built in 1923. The movie house is absolutely beautiful with panoramic views evoking the beauty of a bygone era in this beloved local movie theater with historic presence.

Our night out was completely ruined when we were not let into this movie theater simply because I had a small stainless steel water bottle. I agreed to leave the bottle at the cash register, but politely asked them to provide me with some water (plastic bottle?). They said it is not their problem, in fact, the woman treated us like criminals. She was rude and could care less... So, we just left. When we were leaving, I said to my husband : I wonder how they would know if I had the water in my purse... The woman overheard me and yelled: I would see it from above, I am checking everything from above.... I could not believe it! Why don't they just put a metal detector? Stay away from this place if you don't want your evening ruined.

Graham Miles

Nice small theater

Voula Stampoulidis

Small...no real food/snack options.

Wow. Expensive matinee ticket ($15?) for one of the worst theaters I’ve ever been to. Dirty, old, seats falling apart. Ancient bathroom fixtures. Caught a movie during a rainstorm and was afraid the roof would cave in or emergency exit doors would bust open to a deluge of water. Guess there aren’t any other options in the area so no updates are necessary. Keep those profits high, Bow Tie!! One star for running water in the restrooms plus one star for the projector not malfunctioning.

This theater is a gem. New Canaan is a great destination for a movie followed by stroll in quaint, Nantucket-ish town and nice dinner and drink -- fine dining, fun Mexican, elegant bars - all walking distance.
