REVIEWS OF Bethel Cinema IN Connecticut

Dan Gorry

Bakrkhie Bartlett

It seems that they only show limited release movies. I really love the sleepy, small town charm it has. It's always refreshing to go to a place that isn't AMC Danbury theater. The employees were very kind and helpful. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely be going back.

A small four screen somewhat cramped independent theater showing excellent movies. The seats are narrow. When it is a big movie night and the restaurant next door is busy parking spaces are very limited. There is a parking lot on the side street you can park at in in the evening. The theater has independent food and drink selections as well! Lots of choices of teas ans various baked goods and cookies. Go there to see a great movie that you cannot see in a big multiplex. Arrive ahead of time and buy your ticket head of time if it is a big movie night as seats are limited.

Thank G_d there is an alternative to mainstream Hollywood... stuff.

Lauren Gillespie

Great place, they have my flavors of ice cream/gelato. It has a really cool old school vibe to it

Janet Farella

Nice small little theater!

Kevin Meaney

The ticket sales guy is a dead ringer for Steve Buscemi!

Irene Kaye

An excellent venue for independent, foreign and first run mainstream films. A comfortable place to enjoy films away from the crowds and noisy chatter of the local multiplex. And, what makes Bethel Cinema even more attractive is ticket prices at peak times are lower than the multiplex. What more can you ask for? It'seems Bethel Cinema all the way.

Charming and quaint, shows a mixture of mainstream and indy features. 4 screens total, all quite intimate. The staff is friendly and laid back. If small screen sizes don't bother you (you can sit quite close) this is an awesome place. Priced a bit less than the major chains too.

If your in this part of Connecticut and your used to the good films (like in NYC and Boston) that go beyond the sope of the typical suburban population mindset, this is where you need to go. I will be supporting this cinema after having seen "Inequality for All" earlier today. When the light go on, you don't want to leave the theater thinking you wasted your time.

Although it takes about twenty-five minutes to get to, I do prefer the Bethel Cinema to the multiplexes in Danbury. Cozy and retro, the Bethel Cinema offers the same first-run movies at similar ticket prices, but the venue is more desirable for its intimacy than the huge multi-cinemas. Parking is an issue, however, which is why this venue didn't get five stars. The lot is tiny and ill-constructed, and it is shared with a popular restaurant. I've had difficulty getting in and out. Finally, the refreshment stand reminds me of the former Towne Theater in Pennsylvania that I frequented as a kid in the 1950s and 1960s.

Good place to beat the crowds. They usually have good indie and smaller movies. They also have gelato

Robert La Valle

Not only is the Bethel Cinema an escape from the hoopla of the mega movie theaters with their 10 gigantic screens and mindless noise of commercial successes, it is a venue that (mostly) promotes art films that are created from the heart that speak to the heart. "A movie theater with a conscience"

douglas conrad

Higher quality snacks. Polite and considerate staff. Bring lots of money.

Darcey O'Donoghue

If you seek an alternative to the soulless multiplex, but eschew the pretensions of the "art house", then Bethel Cinema is for you! No blockbusters here, just a choice of first-run films in four small theaters; some--but not all--a bit off-the-beaten-track, one sure to fit your mood du jour. Plenty of foreign flicks you'd not find outside of the big cities, but don't worry if you hate subtitles--you'll find you have a choice. Thought-provoking? Feel-good? Seriously quirky? Just looking for something NOT featuring Jennifer Aniston? Look no further! All this AND home-made goodies at the concession stand (plus the option of butter & salt in the middle of your bag of popcorn!)--what's not to like? Oh, and bargain nights to save a couple bucks on the price of admission...I love this place!

Thomas Lesko

Independent house with great movies

Jrf

Real BUTTER for corn. Tasty

Claire Whittemore

No blockbusters, just indie and Oscar buzz material, a quality that can also be reflected in their popcorn. Not your typical half-stale, fake butter coated garbage but freshly popped with real melted butter. It's amazing. The popcorn sizes are excellent, though I'd recommend going up in drink size. Other food options include chocolate covered pretzels, cookies and brownies, and gelato. Yes, gelato. I've never had the gelato, but I respect that it's an option. The theater also draws in a great crowd, usually all old people, which is always more preferable than kids, and they seem to have a certain air of harsh judgement, like they're film critics themselves, so when they clap at the end, you know it was a good movie. 5 stars.

Sherri Axcell

I love our little town movie theater! It may not have fancy reclining seats but it has great movies at a reasonable price, plus real butter for the popcorn

Kristen Delgado

frank princevalli

Nice, small old fashion theater. Seats could be a little better. Great food stand. And gelatto too !!!!

David Cooper

Quant small local theater. They show a lot of indie films and movies that you may not find elsewhere. Not the place to go see an action movie because the screens are small and the audio equipment is not on par with large theatres. If you are looking for indie, smaller releases, or documentaries this is the place to go.

How fortunate I am to live in a town that has a lovely local cinema showing (mainly) arthouse and independent film. Add to this fact that the selection of baked goods, gelato, snacks and beverages is so wide-ranging and delightful and you have a true local treasure. Don't ever change or leave, Bethel Cinema...!

First time visit. 5 stars for the movie selection (saw Lion - highly recommended, very moving) but 2 stars for the theater. While the theater is somewhat charming, the seats are very confining and uncomfortable (I am an average size female).and are packed very close. I left with a leg cramp. The screen is low and I had to constantly struggle to read the subtitles because the head of the man in front of me was blocking my view. The snack bar is over priced, and so are the tickets for the lack of comfort and room.

Yes its a charming small town theatre. Yes the staff are friendly and helpful and not like the big local chain. Yes the snacks are better than normal and the cookies are really good.
