Great location. Surrounded by many parking options. I visited the movie theatre on the second floor. Seats are comfortable/recline and each come with an attached tray for food/drinks as well as a service button. The first floor can be very busy/loud so if you like a more quiet environment I recommend enjoying a drink or a meal in the bar area on the second floor. I had the watermelon punch goblet which had just the right amount of sugar/sweetness which is made possible by adding the correct amount of ice to the beverage. Overall a very luxurious experience.

Absolutely bull that I have to pay $3.00 for a “booking fee” when I’m in the theater purchasing tickets. What kind of business punishes you for buying at the theater when I specifically did so to avoid online fees. I get this is a tourist town but people live here and tourists don’t see movies while they’re visiting.

What ..? This is not what downtown San Diego is intrested in going to! Really...? Sugar...restaurant and bars. Candy every where and no kids in sight! We sat down in our assigned seats that were soaked by the last movie goers soda and the food tray was covered in food that had not been cleaned off. Like being seated at a dirty table at a nice restaurant. Yuck! So silly us, we ordered wine and a bag of popcorn (a perfect Christmas meal) and we got cold, stale popcorn and warm, cheap white wine. Hummmm! Clueless help, aimless movie goers, out of order escalators (5 stories) and unfinished construction everywhere! Sorry investors/management...you can't change a first impression! Don't waste your time San Diego... Try the LOT in Liberty Station instead!

Great location, I of course had to park in the mall lot but it was labor day weekend sooo... ($18 this time in particular...but usually$20) if you don't mind the short 6 min.walk that part is ok! Theatre was clean and definitely luxurious with those prices. It was a great experience regardless, the seats were really comfortable and it was not freezing

Loved it! Extra big and comfy reclining lounge seats in the auditorium (but cool A/C so bring a jacket) Wonderful place to enjoy a movie. Nice service - they take orders and will deliver drinks, food etc to you. Yummy burgers and chicken fingers. Kind of pricey but fun to try. Everyone there is helpful and polite. Still getting up-to-speed on menu items and training. Fun addition to downtown !!

I live downtown and thought I would try our new Theater. It was unbearably hot in theater 8, and we were going to order some red wine but it was too hot. Also do not get seats in the last row unless you like to have a metal hand bar cutting off part of the screen. I'll go to cinepolis from now on.

The theater looks great, nice recline chairs and food served by the convenience of pressing a button. I wanted to give this place a higher star rating however I couldn't shake the unfriendly service we received by the staff. We ordered food right before the previews started. The lights were still on so we shouldn't of had any issues interacting with the server. Unfortunately the server would not make eye contact with my husband and I and kept looking away as if he had more important things to do. Once the movie started the servers who dropped off our food also had snobby attitudes. After the movie we went to take a look at the candy displayed in the lobby. We could hear someone behind us cursing and complaining about their day very loudly. When I turned around I was shocked to see if was one of the employees. The concept and esthetic of the theater is fantastic however if the staff is rude that's one thing that makes me very reluctant to want to come back.

The theater itself is very cool and comfortable, however, my friend and I both ordered avacado toast at the beginning of the movie. I got mine after half of the movie had already played. My friend called them several times because she hadn't gotten hers yet. They said it was coming. She never received hers. We went to the front desk afterward to ask for a refund and they claimed they never charged her even though they took her card. We also waited a very long time for them to tell us that. Bad service.

1. Movie started with lights still on 2. Projectionist repeatedly turned on a bright light ruining several dark scenes of the movie. 3. Overall sound was pretty low. 4. At one point we could hear the music blasting from an ad in the theatre next door during a quiet/sad part of the film. 5. What's the point of showing an ad for Sugar Factory right before the movie if all of your footage is in low resolution? Looked horrible. Your theatre is nice but I'm not coming back or recommending you due to the above. Thanks for making my Endgame experience whack.

First time visit, well the good - staff super nice and it wasnt very busy for a Friday night. Dinni was our bartender, upstairs bar, super nice and excellent customer service. Even overheard someone in the group saying their stomach hurt and she handed her a ginger ale. Super sweet!! Now the bad - bathrooms were super gross. Given the theater was so slow would have expected someone to check in on the bathroom to avoid it getting this bad. Honestly I would have given it less stars if it wasnt for the nice staff.

Huge new venue but still needs to work on details. Music is way too loud in the main public space. Need to work on their acoustics. We watched the new into the Spider-Verse movie and it was blurry. I now realize it must have been the 3-D version but they did not advertise it as 3-D and nobody got glasses. Weird. Also they had no beer available and then when I went to pay for our food at end of the movie they said they don’t take Amex even though it had American Express featured on the case the bill comes in. Service was very nice if still a little clueless. Menu is so big that it’s almost too much. More is not always better. I would give them a few weeks to work out the details before trying again. Also row “C” is very close to the screen. I would recommend row D or further back

Theater Box was great! Comfortable seats and great theater. Snacks were great but a little expensive. Large public parking garage a few blocks away. Fun experience if you're in town and want to see a movie.

The restroom was filthy, toilet paper strewn about and dead cockroaches on the wet, sticky floor. Service in the theater was poor, hardly what you would expect from a place that charges $24 for a dessert and $7 for a small bag of soggy popcorn.

Having walked in without knowing what kind of place this was, I'll say I was a little overwhelmed. I'm sure I still didnt see everything this place has to offer but I was, after all, only there to see a movie. Luckily, the box office was clearly distinguishable from the sugar factory/starbucks counter and the full service restaurant towards the back. $17 for an adult on a Monday night is a typical CA movie price. The bartender/cashier was jovial considering the late hour. Seats were comfy. Bathroom was clean. I only ordered popcorn but I saw things other people had ordered, shakes, burgers, cocktails, etc. It all looked exceptionally good and I hope to try something more elaborate next time. Awesome place for a dinner&movie date night.

Overall experience was okay. I called in a day ahead to make reservations which is recommended - was assured I was getting the "center seats together" which is what I was hoping for. Picked up my tickets at Will Call and had no issues, only to then get to the theater and learn that my "two seats together" were actually halves of joint seats in which 2 single men were sitting. Not ideal for date night with my significant other. I asked for assistance being moved which was quickly handled, we moved to our new seats a row down in the center and together this time. We ordered drinks and proceeded to enjoy previews. Only to have our waiter /usher return to let us know that we would need to move again because the seats we were moved to were booked. This time, we were moved all the way to the end of the aisle. DEFINITELY NOT the best seats in the house and I would recommend not booking these particular seats when you choose ahead of time. Our drinks didn't come for over 20 min. as we watched everyone else around us get their respective orders. Kind of a lack luster experience especially after going through the trouble of doing what is recommended and making arrangements ahead of time in order to get good seats. Odd side note that I normally wouldn't ever comment on, but I heard multiple complaints around me - ladies restroom has no purse hooks in stalls, smelt disgusting & lacked paper towels or enough hand dryers (1 for all to use). Overall, the candy selection was nice, movie seats reclined and we're comfortable and the drinks were not terribly overpriced for the area(red bull & vodka $7.25, makers & coke $10.25) We had a gift card to use for dinner, and made reservations. However we chose not to stay after our movie experience.

The only negative is it's in gaslamp so parking can be a bummer. But other than that it's beautiful atmosphere. The food I ordered was delicious. They have these goblet drinks... best shared! I didn't realize how big it really was, but it came with lemon gummies so that was another plus. It's comparable to the lot, comfy seats, chair service, and restaurants nearby, but since it's gaslamp you have more options. The roof top is scheduled to open in a few weeks so I plan to go back.

*Nice decor and the entrance into the candy area is different. *Service was ok. *Food quality vs cost isn't there. I've had much better food at Cinéoplis and even newer Regals *This theater is made for tall people. Shorter people may have issues with the safety bar that blocks a portion of the screen on each row. *Seats are standard stadium seating that is now common place...nothing special. *the alcohol drinks were mediocre. Their "specialty" drinks (tried 2 of them) were bland and tasted watered down I probably won't go back to this Movie Theatre portion (theres a restaurant attached to it) unless it's for a special event that's not available elsewhere. With all the talk about how great this theater is...the hype didnt meet the reality of the experience. Theres plenty of potential...they just to invest better into the experience

So me and my wife have been here twice, and both times have not been a great experience. The first time, we were overcharged (without signing or receiving a recipt) and had to wait about an hour and a half for our drinks. The 2md time we called the waitress, she said that they only had one bartender working (on a Saturday night in DownTown San Diego) which when we left saw at least 3 behind the bar. Keep in mind that everybody else in the theater was getting drinks at the same time. The next morning, I saw that we had been charged 111.00 dollars. When we added everything that we ordered, saw that it came out to around 70 so we called and we gave our information and were told that we would get a call back. Never did, so I called a couple days later and saw that the charge jumped up to 121 dollars, and again were told that we would get a call back, again, never did. Which brings me to today. We went back to try this place again, got the initial issue fixed, but it took a waiter almost 30 minutes to get to us, when 3 separate ones had come into the theater to help others. When we finally did order, I got the wrong drink, and it took almost an hour for my wife to get her slushie. This was for a 1230 movie on a Tuesday. While the food is great, stuff like this ruins the entire experience. We most likely will never go back to that place again.

Space was remodelled very nicely, but it feels mismanaged. Been a couple of times and the popcorn was terrible, shake too sugary (added sugar to a milkshake, who does that?), The theatre warm (not enough AC), the sound too low we had to complain, even the rails cover the screen a bit on some seats.... So even tho it looks flashy and new, it's missing the details and attention to make it great.

Been here twice now and so excited to have a "luxury" theatre in Downtown San Diego. I feel the place is not totally running the way it needs to be and after talking to some of the staff they also agree that they have some things to work out. The biggest issue by far is food quality. My first experience the food was so bad I had to send back two different burgers (had very bad rotten meat flavor). The fries also taste like they are cooked in the same oil that other foods are which is kind of gross (I mean how do you mess up Burgers and Fries?). Popcorn is overly salted and almost unedible. Yes, even the popcorn is pretty bad. Bar drinks are good but avoid the overpriced sweet drinks (30$ plus). Overall staff is good, friendly and attentive. They just need to fix their food quality issues and this place will be amazing. I'd say drink and watch movies here but avoid food for now. I would ask the management to visit The Lot Theatres and see how they operate - they have a consistent "luxury" product that Theatre Box does not yet match. They also have much better popcorn selections. I'm going back again this week for the 5$ Tuesday movies.. fingers crossed they have improved some things.

I am very happy to see this theater in San Diego DownTown. However the recliners are not comfortable at all and be vary of the front row seats. Lastly avoid the $40.00 cocktails at the sugar factory, just a pure waste and very limited alcohol in the drink for the price. Service was nice and the ambience is great as well.

Odd side note that I normally wouldn't ever comment on, but I heard multiple complaints around me - ladies restroom has no purse hooks in stalls, smelt disgusting & lacked paper towels or enough hand dryers (1 for all to use). Overall, the candy selection was nice, movie seats reclined and we're comfortable and the drinks were not terribly overpriced for the area(red bull & vodka $7.25, makers & coke $10.25) We had a gift card to use for dinner, and made reservations. However we chose not to stay after our movie experience.

The only negative is it's in gaslamp so parking can be a bummer. But other than that it's beautiful atmosphere. The food I ordered was delicious. They have these goblet drinks... best shared! I didn't realize how big it really was, but it came with lemon gummies so that was another plus. It's comparable to the lot, comfy seats, chair service, and restaurants nearby, but since it's gaslamp you have more options. The roof top is scheduled to open in a few weeks so I plan to go back.

So me and my wife have been here twice, and both times have not been a great experience. The first time, we were overcharged (without signing or receiving a recipt) and had to wait about an hour and a half for our drinks. The 2md time we called the waitress, she said that they only had one bartender working (on a Saturday night in DownTown San Diego) which when we left saw at least 3 behind the bar. Keep in mind that everybody else in the theater was getting drinks at the same time. The next morning, I saw that we had been charged 111.00 dollars. When we added everything that we ordered, saw that it came out to around 70 so we called and we gave our information and were told that we would get a call back. Never did, so I called a couple days later and saw that the charge jumped up to 121 dollars, and again were told that we would get a call back, again, never did. Which brings me to today. We went back to try this place again, got the initial issue fixed, but it took a waiter almost 30 minutes to get to us, when 3 separate ones had come into the theater to help others. When we finally did order, I got the wrong drink, and it took almost an hour for my wife to get her slushie. This was for a 1230 movie on a Tuesday. While the food is great, stuff like this ruins the entire experience. We most likely will never go back to that place again.

Space was remodelled very nicely, but it feels mismanaged. Been a couple of times and the popcorn was terrible, shake too sugary (added sugar to a milkshake, who does that?), The theatre warm (not enough AC), the sound too low we had to complain, even the rails cover the screen a bit on some seats.... So even tho it looks flashy and new, it's missing the details and attention to make it great.

Been here twice now and so excited to have a "luxury" theatre in Downtown San Diego. I feel the place is not totally running the way it needs to be and after talking to some of the staff they also agree that they have some things to work out. The biggest issue by far is food quality. My first experience the food was so bad I had to send back two different burgers (had very bad rotten meat flavor). The fries also taste like they are cooked in the same oil that other foods are which is kind of gross (I mean how do you mess up Burgers and Fries?). Popcorn is overly salted and almost unedible. Yes, even the popcorn is pretty bad. Bar drinks are good but avoid the overpriced sweet drinks (30$ plus). Overall staff is good, friendly and attentive. They just need to fix their food quality issues and this place will be amazing. I'd say drink and watch movies here but avoid food for now. I would ask the management to visit The Lot Theatres and see how they operate - they have a consistent "luxury" product that Theatre Box does not yet match. They also have much better popcorn selections. I'm going back again this week for the 5$ Tuesday movies.. fingers crossed they have improved some things.

I am very happy to see this theater in San Diego DownTown. However the recliners are not comfortable at all and be vary of the front row seats. Lastly avoid the $40.00 cocktails at the sugar factory, just a pure waste and very limited alcohol in the drink for the price. Service was nice and the ambience is great as well.

The theater is located right in the middle of the outstanding Gaslamp district! Not too far from PETCO stadium and the plethora of hotels in the area. We went to see Endgame for the 745 showing in theater 4... it was the worst. The AC was broken, so a three hour and one minute movie with 33 sweaty people. I swore by this theater, however I may reconsider. It was so uncomfortable and the food service took forever. Then when the popcorn came out, it was so stale it was not eatable. All of the prices are upwards of a dollar or two more than listed on the menu. Totally disappointed and unlikely to return. Waste of a lot of money.

This is very unique and different style of Movie Theatres. The building has three different Restaurants on site. All the Theatre seat recline with attached tables. There are buttons on all the seats for food, drinks, and gourmet popcorn delivered to your section. All the seats are assigned and chosen from a digital display, before the movie begins. The atmosphere is very elegant and modern, Wow !!!

The railing in front of every row of seats is terrible and blocks the screen. If it's necessary for safety, use plexiglass or something see-through. If you recline your seat at all the railing blocks the bottom 1/4 of the screen. If you're looking for an overpriced theater, you're better off going to "The Lot", at least you can see the movie.

Sitting in a small theater with maybe 15 seats it became clear the business model relies on in-theater service of food and drinks. That said, I ordered nothing and instead enjoyed my contraband beer, popcorn and chocolate. Picture and sound quality we're poor.

Two rows that are too close to the screen and two that are right in front. And I don't know about you, but I don't go to a movie to eat overpriced bar food. It has a great face lift from the original gaslamp theatre. Nice contemporary interior. BUT it become quickly apparent the theatre was design to be Instagram worthy and they did not take into consideration the quality of seeing a film in theatres. DO NOT go see a movie with a lot of dark scene, like a thriller. There is so much ambient light from the floor lighting and the projection booth (they forgot to turn off a light I believe) that depletes the quality of the picture. It is hilarious that with the remodel the escalators are still broken a lot.

Second time here, all was good until I bought 2 non alcoholic Virginia Strawberry Lemonades for $20.47 a piece total $40.94 with tax. Purchased them thinking my son and I could take the cup (plastic( as a souvenir, but come to find out that the we were followed to restroom and as soon as we walked out of the restroom Mr “In Charge” in a Salmon pinkish sport jacket asks if we paid for them and if I had my receipt. I showed him my receipt and laughed because I could not believe I was being question by Theater Box Management and then Mr Manager says that security tracked us through CCTV and that I didn’t pay for the “souvenir option” and if I enjoyed the drinks with a smirk and nervousness in his voice....I told him I couldn’t believe how pity it was for them to track us down to the restroom for two plastic cups.... geez! The service was good however the seating is a little awkward and some of the theater rooms. Extremely over priced. I don't see how it lasting very long in San Diego. It's centered around candy it's Called the Sugar Factory so I'm not surprised. I feel like San Diegians are more health conscienced. The movie and sound quality was great.

The minimum I expect of a theater is the ability to show the movie. 20 minutes after the movie was supposed to start, they finally got the pre movie ads going. An hour later the movie started. The Lot and AMC seats are better and they have free parking. And I really don't need $20 milkshakes in my life. This was a one and done.

My wife and I went to see Avengers End Game here in late April and wow- what a find! Love the location, the prices, the service, and the fact that they serve you in your seats. The theater itself is part of the Sugar Factory but is upstairs and has a full menu of food, drinks, and alcoholic beverage. The seats in the theater are overstuffed leather recliners and leave lots of space to stretch out and watch the movie. You can push a button on your seat and a waiter comes and serves you. The menu has lots of regular items as well as some really cool unique meals, snacks, and drinks. I had the Cheesey Cheeseburger (it has Mac and cheese in it) and a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. The wife and I were pleasantly surprised with the facility, the upscale service, and the prices (which were very comparable to what you’d expect to pay at an entry level theater). Hands down our new favorite place to see movies in San Diego.

I enjoyed myself once I was at my seat, but the rest of the building is desperate for a cleaning. The bathroom was dirty and several stalls were out of paper. The railings down the stairs were covered in some sort of flakey film that got all over my hands, and then my clothes when I tried to dust myself off. Maybe if they sell some d-list celebrity photos they could buy some cleaning supplies.

I was impressed til around 2 hours into Avengers Endgame 2:30pm showing and realized just how hot it was in the theater. I can only assume the AC was broken and that's why it was so incredibly hot! But, if they are trying to save on the electricity bill than they may save a lot more as no one will come back! It kinda made the whole situation unbearable. I ordered the cheesy burger with a lot of requests( mac on side) and other things taken off and they made it perfect! I was very relieved and impressed! Husband had chicken sandwich and said his was good too. I was honestly too full after all of the food to order much else and then it just got so hot that I just wanted to go. We said that we would come back again only if we called ahead to see if they were going to have the AC working or on. Other than that it was a fun day at the theater with a good lunch! Just a shame it was so overwhelmingly hot in there!

Awesome location and close to my house. Service was terrible though. I thought id love this place but I honestly don't think id go back. I tried to get a drink before going into the theater. There was not one customer at the bar, and the bartender did not even come over. She sat behind the bar on the other side on her phone. It was really awkward so we decided to just get drinks at our seat. We pressed the button 10 minutes before showtime. It took 55 minutes to get our drink. By that time I didn't even want it. $28 for a drink that I couldn't even drink because I got it so close to the end of the movie. The staff in the theater was ok but not too friendly. Ill stick with cinepolis or AMC from now on.

Came into theatrebox to watch a movie over the weekend, not only was the atmosphere and the setting amazing but the drinks were top notch as well. Our server Sean took great care of us, not only did he make sure our drinks were refilled after every time we were close to being done with them he made sure to check in with us to see if we wanted any appetizers or to try there rainbow sliders! We will be back again as this is now our go to theatre

I recommend sharing a Sugar Bowl. Plan to leave with a sugar high. Overall, the amenities were very nice. It's worth a trip!

Theatre Box in San Diego was awesome! The theater is connected to Sugar. I grabbed dinner in the theater and ordered the crunch roll and spicy tuna roll which were great. Also got the chocolate cake which was pretty mediocre. I should’ve gotten the Nutella pizza.

The service was good however the seating is a little awkward and some of the theater rooms. Extremely over priced. I don't see how it lasting very long in San Diego. It's centered around candy it's Called the Sugar Factory so I'm not surprised. I feel like San Diegians are more health conscienced. The movie and sound quality was great.

The minimum I expect of a theater is the ability to show the movie. 20 minutes after the movie was supposed to start, they finally got the pre movie ads going. An hour later the movie started. The Lot and AMC seats are better and they have free parking. And I really don't need $20 milkshakes in my life. This was a one and done.

My wife and I went to see Avengers End Game here in late April and wow- what a find! Love the location, the prices, the service, and the fact that they serve you in your seats. The theater itself is part of the Sugar Factory but is upstairs and has a full menu of food, drinks, and alcoholic beverage. The seats in the theater are overstuffed leather recliners and leave lots of space to stretch out and watch the movie. You can push a button on your seat and a waiter comes and serves you. The menu has lots of regular items as well as some really cool unique meals, snacks, and drinks. I had the Cheesey Cheeseburger (it has Mac and cheese in it) and a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. The wife and I were pleasantly surprised with the facility, the upscale service, and the prices (which were very comparable to what you’d expect to pay at an entry level theater). Hands down our new favorite place to see movies in San Diego.

I enjoyed myself once I was at my seat, but the rest of the building is desperate for a cleaning. The bathroom was dirty and several stalls were out of paper. The railings down the stairs were covered in some sort of flakey film that got all over my hands, and then my clothes when I tried to dust myself off. Maybe if they sell some d-list celebrity photos they could buy some cleaning supplies.

I’ve been spoiled; going back to a regular theater will be hard. The recliners in Theater Box is comfortable and can be adjusted to your preference. It has a built in table for your meals/snacks and drinks. A waiter is available to take your order with a press of a button. What more do you need?!

They made us wait for our reservation when we arrived 10 min early as others without reservations walked right in and there were tables available. Waiter forgot things that we asked for ie: water, napkins, silverware. We had to remind him several times

I was impressed til around 2 hours into Avengers Endgame 2:30pm showing and realized just how hot it was in the theater. I can only assume the AC was broken and that's why it was so incredibly hot! But, if they are trying to save on the electricity bill than they may save a lot more as no one will come back! It kinda made the whole situation unbearable. I ordered the cheesy burger with a lot of requests( mac on side) and other things taken off and they made it perfect! I was very relieved and impressed! Husband had chicken sandwich and said his was good too. I was honestly too full after all of the food to order much else and then it just got so hot that I just wanted to go. We said that we would come back again only if we called ahead to see if they were going to have the AC working or on. Other than that it was a fun day at the theater with a good lunch! Just a shame it was so overwhelmingly hot in there!

Awesome location and close to my house. Service was terrible though. I thought id love this place but I honestly don't think id go back. I tried to get a drink before going into the theater. There was not one customer at the bar, and the bartender did not even come over. She sat behind the bar on the other side on her phone. It was really awkward so we decided to just get drinks at our seat. We pressed the button 10 minutes before showtime. It took 55 minutes to get our drink. By that time I didn't even want it. $28 for a drink that I couldn't even drink because I got it so close to the end of the movie. The staff in the theater was ok but not too friendly. Ill stick with cinepolis or AMC from now on.

It was our first time and we really enjoyed our time there. The seats are super cool and we had dinner served to us while watched the movie. They need more blowers in the bathrooms for sure .. but besides that it was great. I would bring a blanket of you run cold .. I was fine but saw lots of people w them. This felt like a real date.

Came into theatrebox to watch a movie over the weekend, not only was the atmosphere and the setting amazing but the drinks were top notch as well. Our server Sean took great care of us, not only did he make sure our drinks were refilled after every time we were close to being done with them he made sure to check in with us to see if we wanted any appetizers or to try there rainbow sliders! We will be back again as this is now our go to theatre
