This Movie Theater corresponds to the category of Performing arts theater.
We did the rooftop cinema which had a great setup for food and a bar which is available before and during the movie. Movies are watched on comfortable beach style chairs with head phones
I used to party here.
Small and intimate theater. I want to go back for the outdoor screening
The theater has been renovated recently, and is a fantastic place to catch a medium sized production. Very busy theater bar on the 2nd floor, with full bar selections, accepting cash and credit.
Great fun! It redefines date night out to a movie. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff is great, and the food and drinks yum. Movies and music under the stars... I'd do it again for sure!
Historical than you with the combination of old World theater, cool rooftop and the bar where you can bring your cocktails back to your seat
Beautiful restored theatre, lots of history.
Went here for LA Times Oscar nominee event. I liked the old-school feel of the theater. It was fun to watch a movie from the balcony. Totally relaxed atmosphere.
Great place
Good theater for a laser show but nothing special however will be returning for movies on their rooftop
That place is awesome I love how Crystal Starr was there she was awesome!!!!!!!
Really good time
Nice venue
Good food, great service
None to bad parking...
This is named after a famous old actor, Montalban. It is a great theater with a lot of seating. I didn't get to go on the rooftop but the theater was fine with padded seating and enough legroom for a 6' person.
Saw Back to the Future on the rooftop here. What an amazing experience! Good tacos, popcorn, with fake grass and lounge chairs to enjoy the movie on.
Rooftop Cinema was beautiful and well done. Loved it!
Rooftop movies here are the perfect summer date
Hate that you have to walk up and down a million steps to go to the bathroom!! Other than that great
Funny how things are
I was here for the Rooftop cinema experience and I walked out very very pleased, drinks and food on demand , you get wireless headphones to hear the movie but they also have speakers at low volume just in case , you get blankets for when it gets cold , great views but I wish it was a lot higher than what it is .. the only downside I found it's that you have to go downstairs to go to the restroom.
Oh my lord what an amazing experience! Me and some friends went to see Pulp Fiction, and got Love Seats. $25 per person for bottomless popcorn and a glass of Prosecco- and we had love seats
Beautiful theater
I came here for a roof top showing or Pulp Fiction, and really enjoyed the vibe. The people there for the theater were very relaxed and helpful, the little drink corner was delicious and the Umami Burger stand workers were very nice. The whole experience was very relaxed and worth it. Only thing I did not like was the three story walk up to get to the roof, but the walk down was great. lol.
Came here to watch blacklist live. Pretty small and cozy place but had a blast.
First time here. Beautiful theatre in the Heart of Hollywood. Saw George Takei here. The LA Times Book Club draws great authors/people to see here.
A beautiful theater. I attended an event on the rooftop which was an incredible experience. It's a great place to go and see Hollywood.
This legendary theater is definitely one-of-a-kind. They have rooftop cinema here, where patrons can come watch great classic movies in the open air. The auditorium is huge! There are two levels of seating, and the stage was cavernous. Before the film begins, there is an announcement prepared by the great Ricardo Montalban which is unforgettable in itself. This is a great venue.
Pretty cool rooftop! Love the history behind The Montalbán
The Montalban is a nice theatre venue with a large stage and house, a lovely mezzanine area above the lobby, and a spacious rooftop outdoor movie theatre and silent disco. The venue caters to outside productions and events who rent the space for limited and exclusive use. The Rooftop Theatre (now exclusively run by the Montalban), has varied seasonal second run, classic, and cult movie programming, often coupled with a silent disco live DJ and/or bands where headphones are provided, and an Umami Burger stand and bar are available for purchased refreshments. The only downside to the rooftop venue is that the theatre was erected without an elevator, so access to the rooftop involves a four flight climb. But once at the top, the view is worth it. Loving place
Lovely old venue Saw the fabulous Pam Ann...just needed more bar staff or sell points for the later arriving guests Sadly we never got a refreshing cocktail
How can you beat a rooftop cinema?
Went to the theater on the rooftop. Great umami burgers. Be prepared for a climb, there's no elevator to the roof and the bathroom is on the ground floor Worth the effort. Lots of fun
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Awesome location to visit with your significant other or for getting to know someone. There is no elevator, so you will have a little cardio on the way to the top (only three flights of stairs). But the air up top is so freshing and the view is exquisite. There is a mini bar, food, and popcorn and candy stands.
They host really good events and have a rooftop cinema
A terrific venue worthy of the great actor!
It didn't feel finished. But it wasn't terrible. Enjoyed the show.
Came here for a comedian, stage was decent but the bar and snacks was awful.
People there are polite and nice. Wonderful venue for a great show, DRAG BECOMES HER which was great....parking was a nightmare but just park across the street for $16...self park in the parking structure of Trader Joe's.
Beautiful theatre. Incredibly accommodating staff. Top notch experience!
The seats are extremely small.
Very nice place
We arrived late to the show and our reserved seats were already taken so I went to speak with one of the staff members (Ricardo) and although he wasn’t able to recuperate our seats he really made it up to us, he came to us a few times to offer us other options to make sure we had a good time regardless. We had a great time. Although downtown LA or any of those crowded places are not my kind of places to go for fun, the Montalban is a good enjoyable place to go, good drinks and good food. Ricardo took excellent care of us with our issue but all the staff members were very helpful and friendly A+ to all.
Nice venue
Very cool movie venue
The atmosphere is great at the rooftop. The event is well organized and food is available for purchase. They also have a mini bar. There is no elevator to get to the rooftop (only accessibly through stairs). Although blankets are provided, it is pretty chilly. I have no sweater and am super cold
My wife is in a wheelchair and the staff was very helpful in getting us to our seats and making sure we were comfortable.
Large theatre with balcony. Seats upholstered but spacing is close. Good atmosphere. Wheelchair accessible and paid parking lot next door.
The place was clean. The seats were very good as expected. I would go to another screening event there despite the traffic woes.
Nice show
Nice theater. Parking lot next door can get busy after the shows with people paying. It is better to park further away and prepay. Some sections of the theater have some acoustic issues making it harder to hear. Seems to be under the balcony. Try upfront or balcony to hear better.
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" was so amazing Friday night at/on the Montalbán Theatre Rooftop. Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard were gorgeous to look at and see on the Big Screen The cold kept many people away but the true diehardsl fans (seven of us) were bundled up and sharing the double lounge chairs provided. To keep us warm we had sliders, french fries and a carafe of red red wine. Princessa and I laughed, cried and sighed throughout the movie. "Moon River" never sounded so poignantly bitter sweet.
Cool theater
nice theatre, but they give you a used blanket & you have to return it gross
It's actually a nice-sized theatre with a small front lobby, but I was there to watch a film premiere so I didn't really get to experience actual stage Theatre so I'm unable to comment on how well the theater works on that level. I believe it has a good reputation as a functioning theater when it does present stage plays though the theater is not used for this purpose exclusively.
The Rooftop Movies series at The Montalban is a great way to spend a night out in Hollywood! Be sure to get a loveseat ticket if you're coming with your Schmoopy. You can get food, drinks and even play games while you're waiting for the movie to start.
It's a nice theater, but it all depends on what you see. Parking in the area is expensive.
Would have been 5 but the a/c was lacking
The best theater experience and the staff is very helpful. Smiles all around.
you know it was small but it had that Hollywood charm that it is and it's just og as heck
Best roof top experience
Great venue to see a show
This place is very discreet and needs to be promoted, cool place to go to

unique entertainment options like roof top movies.
We were here for the rooftop cinema. The Tickets are way expensier than normal cinema Tickets but it was worth. We watched LA Confidential havent seen the movie before. It Was funny to see all the old Stars. They offer drinks, burger and Popcorn. You have two choices of sunchairs a couple one and a Single one. You get Headphones so you can not hear the noise or traffic. But you can take them off they have speaker too. We would come back if we have time and if there is an interesting movie for us.
Went for a rooftop movie. Great time
Great venue and it was truly fun hearing great stories and real experiences straight up from ADROCK and MIKE D. Long live the Beastie Boys! Miss you MCA!
The Montalban is a great venue. The chairs are comfortable, the earphones are awesome. GreAt drinks, great popcorn. Lots of stairs up and down, but still so much fun.
Was there for Sarah Chang's performance. A medium-size, cozy theatre where you can almost feel personal with the performers. Convenient parking too.
always cutting edge art and sound from this historical monument
Rooftop Cinema Club is always so much fun!
Rooftop theatre! A fun LA experience to have at least once.
Fun time for rooftop cinema
Wonderful venue and service. A must visit!
Good theater, comfy seats and a mid-sized stage. There is a bar upstairs where they offer different drinks and kinds of food with a nice view. There is also live music on events, perfect to catch a break and go for a drink before the show resumes.
Went to Premier for Sword Art Online and everything was perfect great staff and execution will recommend to friends
A very pretty theater with many good seats. Saw the Sherlock Holmes play on stage and it was fantastic.
Its an old school type of theatre. Saw a open panel about BLACK LOVE and it was awesome...
This was out 3rd year using this venue for a meeting. We plan on using it again next year.
We had a great time at the rooftop cinema! Chairs were comfy and the snacks and drinks were reasonably nice. They give you headphones to cancel out the city noise; but you don’t have to use them.
We went for a private viewing on the rooftop. We loved it. The atmosphere is soothing, the views are awesome! The sound and quality of the movie was great. We will definitely be back!
I thought this place was really fun and relaxing. You walk up to the roof (sorry no elevators but a good workout for the hammies) where there are beach chairs with blankets. Only bad part is the headphones they have you wear which are a bit uncomfortable. Also, the lines for drinks and snacks is pretty long. There is not a great deal of room on the roof so it can get crowded before everyone sits down. Finally, there is no assigned seats so get there early if you want to find seats together.
Checked out their rooftop cinema evening. It was pretty amazingly organized, food and drinks, blankets, popcorn. Outside food isn't allowed btw
Great place for the rooftop movies they have events for
It’s a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the music
Good experience overall. I got tickets for rooftop screening, but despite the fact that rain had stopped they canceled it and showed it downstairs. Seats were too small. But they gave us free drinks and the host was a fun guy. We watched Casablanca. Nice movie.
Rooftop theater, great place to see a mivie outdoors. Parking is located adjacent to the building, $10 flat after 6pm. Theater has a bar and Umami Burger restaurant stand, staff is awesome. Little pricey but its the experience of it all. Saw "The House That Jack Built" great movie. Give all three a ago, you won't be disappointed. Peace!
Walking up the stairs to the top of the roof, I was greeted by a breathtaking sunset over Hollywood, and a cool guy with a killer smile that took my ticket. The concession stand shared the journey of this theater with pictures of guests, staff, and celebrities that have enjoyed the space, and each other. The seating was comfortable for outdoor seating, and they had warm blankets for the cooler evening’s. The audio was terrific. I loved the string lights that visually reached towards the sky with the city in the background. The brat pack from the Breakfast Club never looked better on a big screen. I can’t wait to take more people here. Tip: Dress Warm because it’s cold at night.
Nice medium sized venue
I loved watching Pans labyrinth on the roof top it was such a fun experience
Bernie in the house!
Movies under stars is great experience!
Seems like a interesting spot to visit
Great venue. The only downside is the rows are very close together, leaving very little leg room.
Love the spot. Great place to take a date!
Fun place to watch a movie. Definitely seems like a good activity when not cold out
This review is based solely on my experience of a showing by the Rooftop Cinema Club; I have not seen anything in the main theater area. That said, I really enjoyed myself at the Montalban! Entry is quick and easy, and the staff is very friendly. Getting to the rooftop requires a trip up several flights of stairs, but I didn't see an elevator for disabled or those in a wheelchair (but maybe I just missed it). Once up top, you'll be greeted by an astroturfed viewing area with deck chairs and a few concession booths. The whole thing is pretty charming and Snapchattable. (Yes, I just invented that word.) They've even hidden the projector inside a giant, wooden popcorn bucket. Can you say selfie? Anyway, the box office gives you your headsets, and then you're free to grab seats and mill about until the movie starts. I should mention that the view is not as spectacular as you might be expecting; the building is only a few stories high, so you won't be able to see all of Hollywood. Still, it's pretty freakin' cool, and it's quite an experience seeing a movie under the neon glow of nearby buildings. Presentation is good with a surprisingly bright projection (for outdoors). As for food, I suggest getting the sliders; they're quite tasty! The drinks are a little too pricey for me, so I skipped those. Oh, and bring a jacket for after sunset; it gets chilly. (The box office offers blankets for free!) And finally, for parking, the garage directly next door has a $10 flat rate after 6pm. Woot!
Rooftop Movies FTW!!!
Classic 1920s theater with old style seating.
My company recently rented the Ricardo Montalban Theatre to host a film festival. We had to completely research, decide, and plan without the opportunity to visit the venue in person, as we're not located in California. They were incredibly professional and easy to work with. Their crew and staff were able to adapt to any last-minute changes we needed, and everything ran perfectly. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Awesome time watching "The Shinning" HEEERES JOHNNY!!!
I came here for the Roof Top Cinema club showing of Pulp Fiction and it was perfect! Parking lot right next to the theater, awesome date spot, drinks, nachos available for sale.
Classic Hollywood theater. Worked super well for our event
Beautifully remodeled theater. Great art gallery space in the mezzanine. Everyone who works there is super nice, polite, helpful and professional. I haven't gone to see a rooftop movie yet, but as soon as the weather gets nicer I'm game.
This place is very small and quaint so you get a very personal feeling if you see somebody live. At the end of the event the restrooms stoped working so they were directing everybody to use the restroom across the street at the Trader Joe's. The bar is only beer and wine. And the beer choices were deplorable. The only recognizable beer I saw was Dos Equis. And they weren't very cold to top it off! Speaking of warm... I don't think they're air conditioner works very well either! However I must say the staff is very friendly! And parking was very easy to find. Right next door for 13 bucks flat rate all day.
Best service friendly staff clean and fully functional facilities art on the walls was very nice.
I come here about once every couple months to enjoy the rooftop film club. The space is amazing and it's always so very fun. Great food and they show classic movies in an atmosphere that feels like a movie picnic in a best friends yard. completely with a grassy field
The best place Ever !!!
Was there for a screening through Funimation which was good. The place is older, old fashion seats, but cooks space for screening events. the rooftop has an outdoor movie night, which is great for dates or those that are into drive-in feel without the car. Drinks are pretty reasonable as well
Saw the new Opeth live concert. Stunning. No more words needed!
I attended a fun party on the rooftop of the hotel on a beautiful night. I did not mind -- but you have to walk up three flights of stairs to get to the roof and, if you want to go to the restroom, you have to walk down and then back up again 3 flights of stairs.
Rooftop screening old movie classics in the middle of hollywood - tremendously good experience! Must do (when it is not raining)
Fantastic place
When is the code geass give alway?
So fun
I had a WONDERFUL time at the 49th annual Golden Eagle Awards here. From the Gold Carpet to running into friends, a moving award ceremony, live music by ozo matli in the mezzanine, dancing salsa on the rooftop, catching up with colleagues. My manager, Sharon King, a dear friend, Sophia S Santi and I had a fantastic time. I highly recommend this fabulous place!
Seats are a pain in your legs....lol
Great place!
Amazing rooftop venue in the heart of Hollywood. Parking structure next door
Nice theater with rich history and movies played on roof.
Cute little theater around the corner from the Pantages and across the street from Trader Joe's. The theater intro by Ricardo Montalban before each performance is a hoot!
Went to see one of the rooftop movies. That's a nice setup the only bummer is you have to walk up a couple flights of stairs and if you use the bathroom you have to go back down the stairs to use them otherwise the nice setup with reasonably priced bar and Umami Burgers. You can park a block away or so and spend eight to $10 for parking and not get caught up in the rush after everybody leaves
I liked it.
The Sword Art Online Alicization anime premiere was amazing! I can't wait for the rest of the season!
Love the rooftop movie theater
Awesome rooftop movie venue
The Ricardo Montalbàn Theater is historic and it shows. The seats are not the most comfortable, especially for those with wider hips and/or shoulders. Most of the concertgoers around me were shifting often in their seats. It is within walking distance of the Hollywood/Vine Metro station.
What an experience, we saw Ferris Bueller's day off. Loved it, will be back again!
The rooftop cinema is a great time!
Love the Rooftop Cinema experience, keep it up!
Good food and drink. Great date night
Had such an amazing night definitely plan to go again
Great sound quality and thanks for hosting the Zoe film
It was amazing my classmates and I had a really great and fun time✨✨
Great venue for L A Times Books' interview of George Takei with upstairs for book signing.
My Wife and I Enjoyed the Rooftop Cinema on the roof of the Theater !! Great Views !! Helicopter fly over the Top - Large bathrooms !! 1st Class Experience - Safe Parking Garage Next Door !! I would Recommend This Place to My Friends & Clients !!
Beautiful classic theatre yet modern and fresh inside. Art displayed upstairs. Would love to come here again.
Amazing staff and so much fun
Beautiful theater. The allow food and drinks (alcohol too) inside the theater.
Great theater!
Good leg room
No real view for the sunset because it's in between a bunch of buildings but it was such a fun experience! They had a bar open the whole time, you could get burgers before the movie and they give you blankets if you get chilly! Parking is easy at the parking deck directly next to the building. Def recommend
I came here this past Thursday for the Rooftop Film Club. The decor was so cute!! Super friendly and attentive workers. Food was pretty good. My Moscow Mule was watered down but, I didn't mind since I didn't want to drink that much anyways. They prove headphones and blankets for you. Thursday was unusually windy so I was freezing to the point I couldn't sit still. My insides were so cold. I will definitely ask for two blankets or bring my own next time! Such a shame most of the dates are sold out already. TIP: Place your headphones or blanket to reserve your seat before you get your food or beverages! :)
Gorgeous venue. Backstage amenities for staff/artists is great.
Good venue for a variety of entertainment.
