I love this theatre and the amazing documentaries they play

David Parks

Watched Amazing Grace last weekend. Good movie but our sound was competing with Rocketman playing next door. Lady brought her kids to movie and they talked thru 2/3 of movie. Quaint movie theater with lots of ambiance, but I just did not have a good movie going experience in the end.

David Elkin

Love this indie theater. Lots of character and be friendly staff. Many nearby restaurants. And, a great selection of movies.

Cindy Booth

Such a wonderful neighborhood gem. Brought my 5 year old daughter to see Serengeti and The Secret Life of Pets. The theaters we saw the movies in where cozy and comfortable. Popcorn and treats were served in compostable packaging. Members of the staff even let us look at the projector. Everyone employee was friendly and helpful. Please visit, bring the kids and help keep our little neighborhood theater alive!

Fernando Arruda

Cozy and intimate. Imax screen? No, but small and intimate movie theaters, very nice and classy. Sometimes if you seat close to the screen, it actually feels bigger than what it is. I hope this review does not turn you away. It's a good place for movie lovers. Friendly staff.

Bonnie Forer

Good arts theater

Nicolas Botello

Very old school

Sage Revere

I mean dawg it aight but the screen small, feel me? And also the chairs are kinda good kinda bad

Cinnabar Afar

Saw the Movie LBJ it was great ... The staff treated us superbly and we are differently abled people. The movie audience was about 20 people all born after 1965

Tom Toren

Been going here for ages. It's a great smallish theater that's a pleasant relief in the age of multiplexes.

Cato Siamese

Old films and independent films. Everything you ever wanted to see like the Monterey Pop festival from the 60s on the 50th anniversary of a seminal musical extravaganza. Whoever's curating the selection is a genius. AC is chilling on a hot day....the perfect place to see films. A place to return again and again.

Susan Bocchini

Charming retro cinema

Ellen Jacobs

Great neighborhood gem. Always a couple of movies if not the entire weekly pics I want to see. Come see a movie, get great snacks and then do brunch, lunch or dinner in the area.. Lots of options. Avoid the crowds..come see your next movie here or the special events..

Jocelyn Pou

I love this old movie theater and it's locally owned and operated! A Berkeley gem! Just remember to bring your own cushion.

Brendan K-W

Great neighborhood and feel. Cash only however.

Kevin Martinez

My wife and I recently saw the Captain Sully movie here and really loved the theater. Although it's a bit dated it has a lot of character and brought back the old movie experience for us. The staff was friendly and the popcorn was also very good :) We will come back here again in the future.

Michael Lee

Ok art house cinema. Nothing special.

lisa handley

Charming little movie theatre hosting Frameline Film Festival.

Dog Park

Rather small but clean theatre and friendly service.

lickthemlow10

Great place very friendly and intimate cozy

Cher Chatmon Meitzenheimer

Although the theatre is worn and has seen better days the movies shown there are always enjoyable.

Donna Fong

I enjoy the selection of small independent movies that the multiplex cinema doesn't have in my town. However, the seats are old and challenging at best. The screen upstairs is small and if you are seeing a quiet film and there's a noisy film downstairs, you will hear it. I heard Lady Gaga singing during our deeply contemplating movie, To Dust.

Paul Gee

They show good movies but not always the first run.

M

Cool spot to watch a movie. Couches & drinks. I should go again

Charles Bucher

What a movie.

Ruth Adar

Limited number of ACA seats and some of them were blocked. Terrible parking.

Lora TORGESSEN CONDON

This is my place for the National Theater of London broadcasts. Great selection of some of the best cast plays in the world.

Celia Hamman-Cueto

Love this little theater for it's charm and arthouse repertoire. However, beware of the tiny seats and narrow walkways. It was built for the tiny people of decades past. Not handicap friendly. Hey! apparently, this theater is handicap able - nice. It earned an extra star : )

M Garcia

Lovely place to see a movie. Seats are a bit worn and certainly not up to the comfortable seats you find in larger multiplexes but supporting a local theater is worth it.

I went there today. I got there about the time listed on Fandango of 1:45pm and the guy says it started at 1:30pm, so I'm missing the first part of the film and blames Fandango for the error. Then at the end, I go to the restroom, which is upstairs and then am presumed to be sneaking in the cinema. Really bad service, not fixing Fandango... its YOUR job, not mine to get the times listed right and if you don't want people sneaking in, put the restroom on the FIRST floor.

Jan Gronski

This is a modest old fashioned small movie theater, but if you like art and unusual movies this is the place to go.

Joanie Chew

Always a great selection of shows, and the staff here is super nice!

Cherri Farrell

The Elmwood, with it's great variety of film choices and smaller venue, is such a bonus to the neighborhood. You can find something good to eat close by and it is close enohg to walk to for some of us lucky neighbors!

Ulli schneider

Top old school movie theater

Hannah Leigh

Love the old school vibe a lot! Very squeaky seats though.

Victoria Perron

Comfortable theater and friendly staff.

Shirley Park

Charming, small, independent cinema. We saw The Most Unknown by Ian Cheney here, and they hosted a Q&A afterward. This feels like a place that brings community together.

Robert Love

Lovely, older theater! I always enjoy going to a theater that reminds me of my childhood, and I'm very thankful they play documentaries, National Theater Live, and other non-Hollywood films!

Daniel S.

Went here tonight and seen the Kurt Cobain documentary. very nice place. Staff is great. very comfortable people are very quiet it's a great spot to watch some great indie films...... recommended

Gayle Tantau

Wonderful neighborhood theater. Movie today, Crazy Rich Asians. Great entertainment

Deebie Symmes

Absolute absolutely the best place to see a movie. Come here over any other place if you have the choice. It's small the seats are great the food is fun, and you're surrounded by cool things to do before and after. Plus they really get a great set of independent movies and first releases

alan oakley

Wonderful neighborhood venue

Angela

good theater. home nade popcorn with real butter.

Larry Newton

Usually has some good independent films.

Robert Noguchi

Nice, community movie theater on College Ave. Parking can be a challenge.

David Lincoln King

A class operation, friendly staff, great movies.

Ronald Bean

Good place

Ivan Szeto

I was in one of the smaller screens upstairs. The sound of the movie next door bred thru the dividing wall/doors so it's quite distracting.

Paarsa Nikzad

Sounds from other movies seep throughout the theater.

Son Kim

Cute little neighborhood movie place with great lineup

Zac Stein

Small theater but nice and popcorn. Pretty standard

Ky Buu

Rude lady in the office.

Bill Bagnell

Ah! Just saw Julius Caesar, National Theatre Live. This is one great movie theater that brings these productions to us.

Mark HK

We watched Ready Player One, the Spielberg adaptation of Cline's futuristic novel. Both the book and the movie are."must read and see" creations of fiction. The Elmwood Rialto is aged but well maintained although the theatre seats need to be replaced.

Joey Durkin

nice little theater with smaller movies

Bob Oxenburgh

A Berkeley jewel. A wonderfully shabby adorable theater. We see all the UK National Theatre "live" productions there.

Christina Marie

Friendly staff, food is good and I even liked my glass of wine :). I would definitely suggest checking this experience out.

Tree Gelb Stuber

Small & intimate movie upstairs

Emmalee Carroll

Great authentic Rialto experience. Love old movie houses like this. And they have Shakespeare sometimes!

Lance Batten

Great little theater Excellent sound/picture

Helen Duffy

It's important to me to have theaters that show a variety of films that are not blockbuster formula movies. The Rialto is one that brings in independent films, documentaries and unique offerings that we need to keep the big screen alive.

Marsha Gould

Neighborhood fine. Great "art house" films.

Nabil Alhadithy

Great local cinema. Difficult parking.

Robert Bowers

Beautiful and a classic theater . Vary clean.

Jeff Maley

A small theater with professional and helpful staff.

Matt Nesbit

Amazing neighborhood theater. Lots of great munchies (healthy ones, too)!

Anil Bahuman

Classical interiors and seating to enjoy movies like the good 'ol' days

14young88

Fantastic

Elizabeth Proehl

Charming theater. Smaller selection but has Indy options. Good popcorn.

Aby Swaim

Like the tartus it's small and quaint, but the 5-6 theaters are hudge soft reclining soft comfy chairs. Love this theater, because there's mainstream movies, indie films, along with theater love performances filmed to c in a movie theater

Camden Tayler

Saw a foreign film here. Theater is cute but screens are very small; if someone stands up in the theater, their head blocks the projector.

Leslie Firestone

I love this neighborhood theater but unfortunately on a recent trip there we found the theater to be extremely dirty. The arms of the seats are brown and grungy and there was food, garbage between the seats (this was the first showing of the day) and the cup holders were filthy! I understand they are a small theater but they need to have a thorough cleaning or I may not return.

Hubert Sumlin

Great time nice little theatre...great place for an intimate Blues Show live...

James Boblak

Lovely local theater with healthy food options (and popcorn:)

Chiahao Tsui

great cinema that sometimes show unique films you wouldn't be able to see elsewhere.

Richard Otter

Landmark chain theaters are great. No annoying commercials and good film selection. Seats aren't as big as in more modern venues but I'm happy to make the trade off.

fred surh

An old local movie theater featuring old great movies once in a while.

Nick Doty

Nice selection of both popular and artsy movies. Great to have a little theater like this in the neighborhood.

Xavier Lee

Small, intimate theater with often very interesting (great) selection of movies.

Kim Anderson

Great popcorn with real butter. A lovely theatre with fabulous movies that I want to continue to give my business to. I appreciate the films they show.

Manny Ellison

Yay for small independent theaters! I saw Double Lover there recently. The screen is big and bright enough. The sound is also good. Seats are comfortable.

Raul Alvarez

Not a very large theatre but nice for coming on the weekend. Went yesterday to go watch Tommorrow and it was pretty cool how after the movie finished, the actors held a Q&A session.

V O

Cosy place to enjoy a flick of two

Erin Mansfield

Needs better sound-proofing. Noise from other movies is loud enough to be distracting.

Matthew Grimm

The deli is THE place to eat lunch on a hot afternoon.

Shannon Smith Hartwell

Nothing like a cool local movie theatre that shows all types of movies!

Judith Gottlieb

Nice place to see a movie. Excellent choice in movies.

Chuck Fisher

They are showing the kind of movies I like.
