I love this little artsy theater
I went to the Shattuck movie theater in Berkeley on my birthday to see “Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri” and I was delighted to find out it has only 24 plush, comfortable recliner seats! The movie theater is small and it has a great energy about it! I highly recommend it!
Favorite movie theater, great bar too
Another Berkeley gem. Always showcasing the best films.
Good service and friendly staff. Generous amounts of popcorn. Comfortable seats that rock back and forth. Wide arm rests with metal cup holders.
Comfortable recliner chairs
Fantastic vintage theater. Comfy seats. Visiting from out of town. Loved the Berkeley vibe.
I watched more than 10 movies in 4 months at Landmark Shattuck Cinema. The staff is nice, it is generally clean and seats are comfortable. The movie selection is generally enough for Berkeley and the movie schedule allows weekly visits.
Food while I arching a movie in cozy setting
Best staff, polite, and super kind! Part of the magic of he space!
Great selection of independent movies. I wish the floor had a slope.
Nice seats. Small theater. Don't even try to take food in ... they will confiscate it ;-)
Empty during the week!!!
Theatre was very cold inside but sit are comfortable
Loved this place. Recliners absolutly fantastic. 10 screens, small to medium. No 3D or moving seats, good old fashion cinema at it best.
I love this place. Maintenance is exceptional, staff always on its toes and friendly. A great place to see a movie.
Good art house films
Nothing special with theather food. It got only 4 stars cause the chairs were falling apart. But they were still usable.
Really nice older cinema. When I was there it was not very busy. Very nice spot to enjoy a movie.
Nice theater. Friendly staff.
Great drinks, good theater and a good experience. No complaints. Seats were comfy as anywhere else.
This is a great theater for seeing new docs released.
I love the comfortable chairs! I have found before that I didn't like the movie selections they make available in the past, but last time I went they had all sorts of popular new releases.
This movies theater is top of the line. The inside is huge and looks really good. It's not your classic move theater, but fairly different-- in a good and appealing way. The staff are friendly, the theaters themselves (the ones I experienced) are pretty big and look and feel really nice. The concession stands don't have too many options, but then again is that really why your there? Really greater place, you have to see it for yourself.
Has comfortable seats and great character. Supports E-Ticketing via MoviePass

Good popcorn. Movie was okay. Place is clean
Another Berkeley gem. Always showcasing the best films.
Theaters are clean with good chairs that are spaced comfortably apart.

Wonderful selection of movies for grownups.
Great selection of independent movies. I wish the floor had a slope.
Small and rather old theaters. Comfy seats though!

Features limited release movies that you won't find at a multiplex. It's walking distance from some really great restaurant's and bars. The theater has a bar/ restaurant where you can take your cocktail in to the movie with. Order a double to last you through the movie.
Great indie theater with wide variety of movies
I love this place. Maintenance is exceptional, staff always on its toes and friendly. A great place to see a movie.
Gorgeous interior but I wish they had more of the movies often playing at the UA down the block.
Good art house films
Nothing special with theather food. It got only 4 stars cause the chairs were falling apart. But they were still usable.
Really nice older cinema. When I was there it was not very busy. Very nice spot to enjoy a movie.
Nice theater. Friendly staff.
Had a great night watching Logan. There was a 3 beer maximum, which was fine. I loved the reserved seating.
Great drinks, good theater and a good experience. No complaints. Seats were comfy as anywhere else.
This is a great theater for seeing new docs released.
Excellent theater with the latest and high quality movies.
I love the style of the Theater, that me and my friend watched the movie the mustang in.
This theater is lovely and goes above and beyond to create a special experience. As others have mentioned, the design, color and upkeep of the theaters themselves is quite nice. And the leather recliner chairs are both clean and comfortable. My kids and I appreciated the personal interactions we had with staff, from the window staff to the ticket taker to the snack sales; all were personable, friendly, made eye contact and helped us feel welcome. The staff announcement regarding safety, phones, etc. just before the show is a really nice touch.
Come here a few times to catch movies and also the Embarcadero branch. I have always had a pleasurable time watching films with Landmark. I rarely go out to theaters, but I much enjoy an authentic experience and having options such as watching movies on real film and providing space for newer and independent directors really allows me to enjoy films with deeper meaning and purpose. If you plan to go see a movie in theaters, I at least recommend checking out what is available here as you may find the movie on real film. Also, the presentation is keep in a classic cinema style, so not only will you enjoy your movie, but also the aesthetics that come along with it. Thanks for all the fun movie watching experiences, Landmark!
Transports you to another time. Very nice place. The service not so much. Pretty great prices. Very diverse and inclusive. Fantastic movies.
Convenient parking or downtown Berkeley Bart, excellent seating, reasonably priced
First time here. Beautiful old theater. Friendly staff. Used my MoviePass, this theater welcomes sticker through MoviePass couldn't be easier. Lots of nice restaurants around to enjoy before or after your movie.
Good theatre. Comfortable seats. Good movies. Go see "Free Solo".
Cleaner than most all theaters. Comfy seats and nice benches in the main hall. Great place to wait for all the members of your party to get there.
One of three excellent theaters in downtown Berkeley. Films lean more towards the artistic side but also features some popcorn flicks. Some theaters have reclining seats and there is a bar connected to the theater from which you can bring drinks into your movie. Bart accessible
Simply put a good multiplex with a good selection of first run, documentary as well curated movie fare.... good selection at the snack bar too!
Beautiful theater with themed rooms (the Egyptian and the Indian one are very cozy). I have yet to try the food but the bar is staffed with charming people and they make good drinks. It's also nice that they feature both new popular films as well as independent and foreign ones for a really nice variety.
Great as always! Found a pretty close parking spot this time. $7 for two hour meter. Movie wonderful, seated in large comfy black leather seat and full screen clearly visible and audio just perfect!
Awesome theater and staff. Beautiful theater with lots great movies. Food prices are good overall. Tons cool films
They tend to screen "smaller" films, not blockbuster action movies. Although parking may be difficult (there is a city garage a block away on Allston), BART is very close. They make fresh popcorn and a large refill ($8 Feb. 2019) is free. A matinee ticket is $9.50, which seems like a good deal. I was in a small theater, six seats in a row, with highback reclining chairs which were wide and very comfortable.
Classic Berkeley theater - including the somewhat snide ticket seller telling students he has to charge them more if they use the student discount on a matinee ($10 student price vs $9.50 matinee price). You can get alcohol from the bar in the lobby, which is nice. And some theaters have bean bags, so it's fun for kids.
This quaint little theater is well kept up and very nice in architecture and features. Unfortunately parking is a little tricky so if you want to visit it give yourself enough time to find parking.
Decent theater in the middle of grubby downtown Berkeley. Great art house, but to get in, you have to step around homeless people who gather outside. Seating comfortable and popcorn good. Too bad this place couldn't be picked up and transplanted to a better location.
Great location with a nice layout, easy to run out and use the bathroom or grab popcorn! Little bit dated.
Love this Theater. Very quaint
Better seats than California Theatre, and a consistently good film selection. But arrive late so you can miss all the ads and previews!
Love this theater. The movie was great!
Outstanding customer service. I needed a devise for hearing. They showed me how to use it & were patient. Theater seats were very comfortable & looks like going to the movies might be making a comeback. Theater was busy on an early Saturday afternoon. I look forward to returning.
Movie we saw was in a pretty small theater but the seats were comfortable. The movie we had hoped to see was sold out even though it's been out for awhile, so keep this is mind. Very close to Berkeley BART and lots of restaurants.
love this place so much! its such a cute movie theater, tickets aren't SUPER expensive so thats great. just love this theater all around:)
The 2 front rooms have amazing recliner seats! The next one has some nice cushy soft seats, and the last time I was in the very back rooms there was not so great seats. It seems like they're updating them all so it's great, because you can grab a cocktail at the bar and bring it in to your movie with you. The parking can take awhile but there are paid lots around. It's also very close to BART so that's the best option, because there's plenty of other things to do on the surrounding streets. Friendly and fast service, always a pleasant visit.
Just ok; not so comfortable seatings, good equipment, but what is really bothering is it smells really bad
Its a classic movie theatre, it's alright the food is expensive. Only cool thing is they have couches for balcony seats
Excellent theater with the latest and high quality movies.
I love the style of the Theater, that me and my friend watched the movie the mustang in.
Some of the big TVs on display at Costco are about the same size as the movie screens in some of the theaters here. The staff are friendly though.

Did find person in ticket booth disinterested in customers

Simply the best East Bay cinema!
Some people go to shrinks, I go to the Landmartk Cinemas to get my head straight. The best Indie and mainstream flicks, and plenty of them. I've seen more gems here than any theaters in L.A. or N.Y. Don't miss the ones that don't get mainstream publicity. Thank heavens for these Bijoux Palaces. And how wonderful to be able to see such great films during week days as well as nights.

Old movie theater with small screen halls and good movies.
Love this theater. The movie was great!
The seating is great. Large chairs and arm rests. Lots of space in front of you. Pillows. Other theater has sofas. Great popcorn.

Usually diverse selection of movies, including foreign selections. Smaller theatres, but still good value given the movie selection.
Just ok; not so comfortable seatings, good equipment, but what is really bothering is it smells really bad
What's not to like? Great opening night for Incredibles 2. Enthusiastic audience.
Its a classic movie theatre, it's alright the food is expensive. Only cool thing is they have couches for balcony seats
many places already easing on policies regarding bringing external food to a place. That especially applied to ice cream when people go to see cartoon. I didn't hide my cone like some other people would do, but politely asked at the front if they can make an exception for us this one time, it would mean a lot to me if they would. I know - rules are rules, but if places like Landmark on Shattuck can't make exceptions ... (I upgraded my 1star to 2stars right now, for communication. I was surprised even getting your inquiry. Thanks for that)
Delightful well-kept movie theater in downtown Berkeley. High quality films, beautiful decorations featuring Egyptian and Persian motifs. The balconies in the back theaters are fun, but the view from below is better. The big comfy chairs are great too. Come early and enjoy a drink at the adjacent full bar. They let you take the drinks into the theaters. Overall, if your film is playing in multiple places, give the Shattuck Cinemas strong consideration.
What a great movie theatre! They always have the movies I want to see. The seats are comfortable and the staff is incredibly nice. You can even get really good drinks, wine & beer at the bar and bring them into the theatre. The bartender is great & always asks what movie you’re going to see. Love this place!
A jewel for cinema fans. Great arthouse film theater. The film selection is always on point.
4:00 Sunday still is mattinee price. See films not available at other theatres. Seats large and rock.
Great place, used to work here
Park in the garage around the corner. The theatre will not validate the ticket, but it is a lot easier than searching for parking on Shattuck. Good popcorn and you can take your adult beverage in the theatre!
Great movie theater they have alcoholic beverages that you can drink in the theater the seats are very comfortable
Cool theater. They allow adult drinks frim the attached bar and have free flavor enhancers for popcorn. Also the bigger theaters are very old school. Worth a stop.
They play unique movies but it needs some updates. I would still come here because of some of the unique movies they play.
A great place to watch independent films in Downtown Berkeley. It may not have stadium seating, but the seats are comfortable and offer ample leg room. The theaters are relatively small, so buy tickets ahead of time if you want to ensure a seat. In addition to the standard concessions, there's also a bar from which you can bring in drinks.
I stopped in to see the new Star Wars. They offer plenty of showings with comfortable theatres and a good sound system. It is close to Bart and some good restaurants. There is some street parking and parking garages within two blocks.
It has been fairly recently renovated. Very comfortable sits and good screens.
Nice, Clean w/a beautiful lobby and modern movie amenities.
Small and intimate theaters.
They have a bar and let you bring the cocktails in to the theatre. Can't go wrong with that.
I like this theater. It's clean and they show good movies. The staff is helpful.
Very comfortable reclining seats! Nice employees, clean restrooms and they have a better selection of movies than most other theaters.
Good selection of popular and independent films.
When a good friend suggested we go to see the movie “ The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” I was delighted to find out that it was at the Landmark’s Shattuck Cinemas! The seats were comfortable and there was space to stretch my long legs. Best of all the seats were clean and I didn’t stick to something a previous movie goer left behind. After the movie while my friend went to the restroom I simply enjoyed lingering in the lobby so that I could look at the cool ceiling tiles or how the neon lights at the snack bar illuminated everything around it.
Seats are quite comfortable. Most of the individual theaters are small, so there's no bad seats. Some of them even have balconies! I most recently patronized Shattuck Cinemas immediately after a large dinner, so I had no desire to try their snack bar - thus I can't review it.
Lots of leg room but the seats in theatre 4 are reclining to far too easily for my back and neck. You can really relax in that kind of comfortable armchair but i wish we could change the settingbto not recline all the way.
This is my favorite movie theater in Berkeley. They have a box office where tickets can be sold but it isn't always open. You have to buy your ticket where you buy popcorn and sodas and you have to wait for those people butter buying food before you can even get your ticket. Otherwise I would give this a 5-star rating
Beautiful theater with comfortable seats. It's easily my favorite in Berkeley. In some of the theaters, there are even couches or reclining chairs. Good selection of indie movies and bigger ones, too.
We have only been here once, but this movie theater was right up our alley, where it was a more personable experience than other movie cinemas that we have previously experienced, where each showing has a much more personable occupancy of about 100 people where it feels more like the old time movie theaters where it is an old movie theater from the past, but well kept up, updated and very clean. Plus, the biggest winner is they serve beer, wine and spirits that you can actually bring into the movie showing. SOLD!!! We are definitely returning to this cinema.

They did not let me in cause i came 15 minutes before the movie start. Was told to wait another 10 minutes. WHAT THE FUDGE?!
Great multiplex Cinema—More Than a Movie Theatre! Shows Indies, Foreign, Art flicks, as well as more mainstream Hollywood guilty pleasures and drek!

It's an okay place to see a movie. The sound system is not that great though.
Very comfy seating. The bar inside had top shelf and a friendly tender. You can take your drinks into the theater.
A jewel for cinema fans. Great arthouse film theater. The film selection is always on point.
Comfortable seats and a nice staff. A better experience than large cinemas chains.
Landmark Cinemas generally show excellent foreign films, art films, and current popular films. Service is very good, seating very comfortable, food better than other theater chains, prices lower than most other chains. And "The Insult" is a very good movie, but not for children.
4:00 Sunday still is mattinee price. See films not available at other theatres. Seats large and rock.
Great place to take the Fam
Great place, used to work here
Inside is fine but the parking is awful. BART in if possible. Also there are a lot of people hanging around that block that appear to have some mental instability. If that an area of concern for you I recommend catching a film in Oakland or Emeryville
Park in the garage around the corner. The theatre will not validate the ticket, but it is a lot easier than searching for parking on Shattuck. Good popcorn and you can take your adult beverage in the theatre!
Good amount of seating, not too crowded, comfy chairs.
Great movie theater they have alcoholic beverages that you can drink in the theater the seats are very comfortable
Cool theater. They allow adult drinks frim the attached bar and have free flavor enhancers for popcorn. Also the bigger theaters are very old school. Worth a stop.
Dig the lounge style seating, independent theater doing it for the art.
One of my favorite theaters in Berkeley. Cheap tickets and great atmosphere. Also you can bring in booze from the bar.
They play unique movies but it needs some updates. I would still come here because of some of the unique movies they play.
Great discounts for students on weekdays and weekends.

We were in a fairly small theater which was nice and clean. Some of the seats, although comfy were showing a little of their age through wear and tear. Sound system was good. Staff from the ticket window to concession stand and post movie clean up crew were super polite and friendly. Would come back for the right movie.
Nice old-cinema charm. Nice interiors. Comfortable seats. But not all screens are the same. Screen 6 is very small.
Great films. Don't have to pick your seat ahead of time.
Very impressive!! I really was comfortable and it felt nice watching the movie and enjoying the atmosphere
The seating arrangement was a little out of sorts, big chairs that squeaked and didn't feel comfortable. They were just old and needed to be replaced. The movie star was Blake Lively, she did pretty good in this one.
The seats left a lot to be desired
Always screening want to see movies including artsy moive. There's several small intimate screening rooms. This is one of my go to movie house. The eclectic Shattuck Avenue is always a plus for people watching.
Always showing some extraordinary films that the mainstream cinemas ignore...Great, comfy seats!!
Not a big chain theater. Comfortable relaxing atmosphere. Attached bar let's you have a drink in the movie.. Awesome! Great staff!!!
Enforcing a rule against outside food against a small coffee drink openly carried is a put off, especially when it comes from a shop in the very hallway that leads to the theater enteance. Given the availability of two alternative theaters in a 2 block area this is also bad business.
A good movie theater.
Always been good to see a flick there
Comfy chairs in a smallish theatre made for a nice experience.
Great indepdent films!
Love this place. FYI: the Nachos with chicken are simple, but delicious with sour cream and salsa. You can get popcorn with real butter and adult beverages. Comfortable seats.
The best pop corn is here, not just butter but different dressing too like cheese
Love this theater. I was in one of the smaller ones and the chairs were like the lounge seats in first class. Fun way to see a movie. Close to a variety of restaurants to eat before or after. Parking can difficult. Food and bar available inside to take to your film.
Small theater, pretty quick to get in and out. Bathrooms weren't super clean, but it's one of the closest theaters to campus. Be sure to bring your student ID for a discount for some movies. I was able to watch a standard movie for 10 dollars.
This place is Beautiful!!
Small, nice.
I am a fan of the Landmark Cinema chain and this was my first time attending an East Bay Landmark movie theater. I was impressed with the historical significance of the building and architecture. I enjoyed the historic photographs on display in the lobby. The full-bar onsite is an added amenity.
We were in theater 8 and the chairs were the most comfortable I have ever had. I'm short and yet visibility was great. Only drawback about this theater is that the parking in downtown Berkeley can be awful.
Though this is one of the better cinemas in Berkeley, it still doesn't compare to an AMC or anything like that. The screens are pretty small and the sound isn't anything to write home about. That being said they usually have a pretty good selection of films with one big film and then a couple other films that you won't see in every theater.

Very impressive!! I really was comfortable and it felt nice watching the movie and enjoying the atmosphere
Nice theater, parking garage near by. Nice staff.
Some have referred to it as "the Whole Foods of theaters." Landmark is where the niche films show, with a couple more screens around the corner at California Theater. There's an attached bar, and drinks are welcome in all evening shows now. …

Good theatre.

Website is inconsistent with advertised showtimes
Went here to see Fences the movie. It was very well done. I also saw the play 'Fences' about 2 months ago at the Joaquin Miller Amphitheater. It was great then also!
Nice theatre staff, big, comfortable seats, good mix of popular first run films, foreign language, art and indy films. My favorite local Landmark Theatre--worth dodging the aggressive homeless population to go there, at least in the daytime.
Enforcing a rule against outside food against a small coffee drink openly carried is a put off, especially when it comes from a shop in the very hallway that leads to the theater enteance. Given the availability of two alternative theaters in a 2 block area this is also bad business.
This is a very cozy movie theater, don't be intimidated by the Box Office lines because they tend to move quickly. The insides of the actual theater is quite smaller than the rest, they include large cozy leather couches and non stadium seating. You are able to bring you "Lot 68" drinks inside the theaters.
A good movie theater.
Good variety, and a large number of screens, without feeling like an anonymous multiplex. Intelligent programming, good senior pricing. Recent upgrades have created comfortable seating and pretty good sight lines - it is an older structure.
Always been good to see a flick there
Comfortable seats and good projection / sound system. Retro decor of movie palaces long gone adds charm.
Love this place. No BS. The bar is available in some theaters and all the food is above average and priced like any other movie theater.
Comfy chairs in a smallish theatre made for a nice experience.
Good theater, always a good time, never had any problems here so nothing to complain about. What else could you ask for?
Great indepdent films!
Love this place. FYI: the Nachos with chicken are simple, but delicious with sour cream and salsa. You can get popcorn with real butter and adult beverages. Comfortable seats.
I love the look and feel of the different rooms but many chairs need repair or replacement.
Best theatre, comfortable seats..bar inside serving drinks in real glasses..
Small, nice.
Great movies!
