From the moment my two boys and I walked through the doors of the Island Funeral Home, we knew that our experience was going to be a very positive one, which is so important when it pertains to such an important and significant life experience.
We worked primarily with Valerie Mayer, a Funeral Director who has an amazing combination of expertise and compassion. She made us feel very comfortable while guiding us expertly through the choices we needed to make in preparation for the death of our Wife and Mother which we knew at the time would occur in the not too distant future.
I can't tell you how welcomed we felt, not only by Valerie, but by Jeanne and all of the staff with whom we came in contact, every time we walked in to what to us was a warm and gracious and intimate environment, at the Island Funeral Home.
The day when our Wife and Mother was welcomed into Heaven, the two dignified gentlemen from the Island Funeral Home arrived promptly, and conducted themselves with absolute professionalism as they performed a most difficult task with class and sensitivity.
The day of the Visitation and Celebration of Life arrived, and Valerie and additional staff were present to welcome us, and then our guests. The picture boards they supplied and we had prepared, were displayed prominently and perfectly, and our digital photos scrolled through on a big-screen TV where all who attended could view them easily. The coffin and surrounding flowers looked beautiful, and that feeling of intimacy and welcomeness was eminently present, and felt by all who attended.
When the Celebration of our Wife's/Mother's Life was concluded, the staff directed a very smooth transition to the hearse, and quickly and expertly organized the funeral procession. The short journey to the Six Oaks Cemetery also went smoothly, as did the final transportation of her casket to the gravesite.
In summary, we were completely and totally happy with EVERY aspect of our experience with The Island Funeral Home and Crematory. The people we interacted with were very kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable, especially Valerie, who we can only describe as stellar. The physical place itself was very warm and comfortable, exactly what our Wife/Mother would have wanted. My boys and I recommend The Island Funeral Home without reservation...I don't know how our sum total experience there could have been any better.
