Called to start prearranged funeral plan. Cremation costs (only the cremation) were over 3x the cost of nearby places.

As an estate planning and probate attorney I work with many funeral homes in the low country. The team at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek is exceptional. Andrea Morgan, Director of Support, goes above and beyond for her families. She treats her clients with a high level of care and provides a quality service. I highly recommend the Goose Creek Chapel of the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home.

The time and assistance, and patience warrant 10 stars. Very patient about the photo's for the video! Andrea is still great . I called last week with a question, she always has the answers. Some people can "play" care and compassion. Everyone's is genuine. Makes a HUGE difference.

I really hate to leave a bad review for a funeral home but my experience with this place was terrible. Due to an unfortunate set of circumstance my dogs passed away; and At the advice of a neighbor we took our two dogs to McAlister’s to have them cremated. When we took them it was on a Friday night, after hours and the gentleman that took our dogs wanted me to write down my credit card information on a piece of paper. I told him for security reasons that I did not want to do that but I had no problem paying my bill if someone could just called me during their normal business hours. He assured me that this was no issue and that he would have the dogs cremated the next day and they would call me for payment on Monday. Nevertheless, Monday came and went and after nearly a week my wife and I decided to call the funeral home and see about paying our bill and also if The dogs had been cremated. They informed us that the dogs were still sitting at their facility due to nonpayment. When we explained what we were told the only thing that they could offer was to say it was a miscommunication. Not to mention that they said we would receive a certificate of cremation which one month later we have yet to receive. While I was already heartbroken this place made it worse I understand that to some people they were just animals, but to us they were family. This funeral home saw absolutely no regard to what we were dealing with. I highly suggest you not take your love ones and especially your pets here .

I love the attention to detail Mccalister Smith provides. They are extremely concerned with all members of the family and provide excellent customer service. I would highly recommend their services to anyone. In a time where emotions are high, they handle all of the details so the family doesn't have to stress.

We love McAlister-Smith in Goose Creek. I was just giving an account to my friend of the day my grandmother passed. They came to get her, and as they were taking her out the door, stopped so we could each have a moment with her to say good bye in my parent's home. When we went into her room, a rose and card were laying on her pillow. So sweet, with such attention to detail. Great, great people there!!

I attended a memorial service for a close friend's father at the McAlister-Smith Funeral Home. Although I generally don't like attending these types of events, I found myself quite comfortable in the atmosphere provided there. The staff was extremely professional and it was easy to tell they cared for the well-being of all those that attended and understood what a memorial should be remembered for...a time of remembrance, family togetherness, and closure. Very well done.

I would not recommend McAlister-Smith for your loved ones funeral arrangements. Very impersonal and they simply do not care. I have had a horrible experience. During our initial meeting I let Don, the site director, know that we wanted to have a slide show looping during the visitation and then a slide show during the funeral service. I asked what file format was needed and he could not tell me. He simply stated that some clients who create them on a Mac would not play on their system. I am an IT professional, so I understood what this meant (Mac / Windows Media Player compatibility issue). Don said to bring the movie on a USB stick the day before to ensure it would work. I proceeded to use iMovie to create two slide shows - one with no sound to be looped during the viewing, and a second one with music to be shown during the funeral service. I ensured my movies were in the right file format to play on a Windows computer. Don was able get the movie with no sound to display fine. However, he could not get the movie with sound to have the audio come through the speakers. Come to find out, they do not have their computer hooked up to their sound system! This is something a $5 cable could resolve. Don stated that usually people don't have sound with their slide shows. Not sure what century Don is living in... Don offered ZERO solutions and simply stated that he could not speak to how the owners have the sound system setup. He said I should have created a DVD. However, that contradicts his instructions to me to bring in the movie on a USB thumb drive. I went home very upset as I was having to deal with McAlister-Smith's incompetence with their technology setup. I got a call from Sean stating he could burn a DVD for me with the files that I provided. So....I drove back to McAlister-Smith in Goose Creek and met Sean. He burned two DVDs of my movies and they played fine in their DVD player. However, the software he used was not licensed so there was a HUGE watermark logo across my movies. Sean said he would have to get a license ($39) and re-burn the DVDs. I asked Sean if he could please call me once this was done so I would know that everything was good to go. Sean never called me. I even called the funeral home and Denise spoke to me and said Sean was driving, but she would have him call me within 30 minutes. No call. We showed up for the family viewing and the slide show was going on the monitors with the huge watermark on it. Sean left a message with the staff that was there stating he tried to get a license, but his credit card was declined. WTF? That was it? Sean could care less that he setup the video to display with a huge watermark. Even though he had the original file and could have set it up to display on the computer (since no sound was required for the viewing). He just went home, not caring that I would have to deal with this instead of focusing on my family and my father who passed away. Sean should be fired. He is definitely in the wrong business if he doesn't care about doing what he can to ensure the family can grieve and not have to worry about things the funeral home should have under control. I also feel Don failed miserably. He knew there were issues with our videos and he did not make sure they were taken care of before going home. So now, after the viewing I had to spend a couple of hours and additional money on software utilities to make burn DVD in the right format that will play in a DVD player instead of spending that time with my family after the viewing. Why? Because I could not rely on McAlister-Smith's employees to take care of such a simple task. I would give them ZERO stars if Google allowed me to. Thank you Don and Sean for adding stress to me personally during a time I relied on you to do your jobs and actually care (even just a little bit). I will also be reaching out to Todd Griffin, the General Manager, to let him know what a horrible experience I had.
