My wife was at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Center Huntington's Disease unit in upper Manhattan for almost three years. She died in January 2016. Nine months earlier I made prearrangements with Crestwood Cremation and Funeral Services, and on the day she died all I had to do was call her priest (from the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine) and Crestwood. The person who picked up her body was very gentle and compassionate, and two weeks later when I went to Crestwood to get the ashes and the death certificates, everyone at the funeral home was incredibly caring, kind and sympathetic. The price was fair and took care of the entire simple cremation. I cannot recommend Crestwood highly enough.

My younger brother unexpectedly passed at 31 after living on his own in Manhattan. He moved from our hometown of Chicago 6 years ago. We didn’t know how to proceed in an unfamiliar city. I cold-call funeral homes, and that set the path for our family’s closure. Crestwood’s professional courtesy and sincerity were immediately apparent. They took my dad and me through the process at our own pace, step-by-step, so we understood how to navigate the city’s bureaucracy, contact estate planners, and finally setup a private ceremony. Crestwood had the patience to work with us while my mother was on the phone back home, certainly giving her a hand in the decision making progress. My mom flew in a week after the death. Crestwood opened its doors to her a day ahead of the service, an unexpected but welcome gesture. Looking back, this set them apart and softened the sharp pains of a difficult situation. No surprises, no shocks, just smooth. Not sure if we could have done any better.
