Our experience at McClendon Mortuary in our time of need was Outstanding. The staff was very professional and sincere. From beginning to end I felt that my desires for the services were respected. The services were beautiful all the way through. I don't believe that any other mortuary service could have dona a better job at any price. I truly appreciate this family and their business. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars this business deserves a 7 star rating. I highly recommend McClendon Mortuary to all in need.

It is already difficult to bury a parent, but the compassion and kindness I received at McClendon Mortuary made the death of my mother easier to endure. Every person I had contact with at McClendon Mortuary comforted me, ensured that I was informed and satisfied at every step of the way. My family and I will always be grateful to the McClendons' for their exceptional service. I would recommend them to anyone who has lost a loved one.

John Doe

Horrible, horrible service. If you want a positive experience when sending your loved one off, do not choose the McClendons!

This funeral home is awful. I wouldn’t bury my dog there. My brother had his funeral last year Dec 21, 2018. When my Mom made funeral arrangements David had her to sign a piece of paper stating she was the next of kin to get my brother death certificate. My mother called these awful no compassion for life or death of people for 4 months to request my brother death certificate. My Mom finally found out today that David have his “frat brother “ the death certificate saying he was the next of kin. And he also told my Mom & me to go on Hanley to get a copy if we want one. Quote on Quote. He handed my brother 7 death certificates. My brother corrupt my brother which was a veteran in real life. Didn’t do nothing but take his money him and his wife lives in Arizona and did nothing but lived off my death brother money. I told David all this back in December. How can y’all still be in business after lying for 4 months about a death certificate. Please don’t deal with this business especially David and the owner very corrupt people. You will regret dealing with these people I give them a 1 star.

They sent my love one away and his moma was not happy! He didn’t have a good home going and got nothing that was asked of them. This is a parents last time seeing their child they shouldn’t have any problems but they cause her more! The casket and everything was all wrong!

Javonte Wilson

They showed excellent service. I would recommend them to anyone I'm not easy to impress but I was surprised with the treatment I got while dealing with the loss of my loved one and am still getting. Thank you so much for all you have done MeClendon Mortuary. I will never forget you all I just wish there were 10 stars because you deserve it.

Didn't give the family exactly what was ordered, made do with what they had on hand seemingly & never offended the family compensation form this horrific error! Wondering how many other families have they deceived this same way at thier time of bereavement in hopes that the family will just let it pass without questioning them... families should be given what they pay for & not just handed altered possible cheaper substitutions without approval from the family. Bad business in my opinion!!!

We have had 3 family funerals here. A Vietnam vet, a middle aged man with no insurance or plot, and a grandmother with minimal insurance and a family plot. Each time we went to them, we told them what we needed and David sat with us and worked out how we could be served. They were all different, with different prices, but all very reasonable. Just go talk to him. I highly recommend.

Your most traumatizing moment is the point at which you get a call from home, that your nephew was murdered. The 8 hr. ride from Atlanta to St. Louis was an unbearable trip, full of disbelief and anguish. However what was more terrible is being screamed at by the proprietor of the funeral home subsequent to seeing he had cut out paper emblems and posted them on my nephew’s coffin, the wrong one at that. However, to have him approach me aggressively at the burial shouting that vault cost more than the one was ordered, regardless of whether it is the wrong one or not and then at that point unfastening his jacket as though he was going to follow up on that aggression in front of dozens and dozens of friends and family. When I left the St. Louis area in 2008, I don’t even this this place have ever been heard of but now it the fool of the memorial service group on the amateurish way of the proprietors and how they require so much cash forthright regardless of whether there’s a policy in place, set up that more than covers the bill. PLEASE I BEG ALL THE GRIEVING FAMILIES IN THE ST. LOUIS, DON'T TAKE YOURSELF THROUGH THE ADDITIONAL GRIEF YOUR FAMILY WILL ENDURE IF YOU PATRONIZE THIS JOKE OF AN ESTABLISHMENT. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE ONLY OPEN ON HALLOWEEN TO PROVIDE GRUESOME TRICKS AND GAGS FOR PEOPLE WHO COME TO THEM. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN FOREVER!! SUCH AN EMBARRASEMENT TO THE OTHER BLACK BUSINESS OWNERS IN THAT COMMUNITY THAT ARE SERVING THE CITIZENS PROFESSIONALLY AND PROUDLY.

This funeral home was responsible for butchering my bestfriend home going. They were very unprofessional and did not conduct business in any manner someone grieving should have to deal with. They constantly made mistakes on orders and were upset when confronted, then they came up with a quick plan that was awful and rinky dink. DO NOT USE THIS FUNERAL HOME

Katrina Evans

My grandmother's funeral was held at the location on HallsFerry and I tell you the experience was needless to say a Horrible one. First, they never lined the family up, where the children of the deceased should have sat on the front row. They literally, allowed whoever was in the front when the doors opened to sit on front row, then second and so on. I've never been to a funeral home where they didnt tell the folks that were already in there seated to get up and clear the room because the family is coming in first. They allowed folks to stay seated that were already in there while the family came in. I mean I was totally in disgust!!!!! I know that radio personality is always shouting this funeral home out, but he really shouldn't because their service is beyond disgraceful.

Mr. Mc Clendon is a very bless spiritual man that I would like to thank God for having to have the pleasure of brining into my life. Mr. Mc Clendon embrace me my family through one of our most difficult time of our lives while dealing with the lost of our love one. Mr. Mc Clendon and his son David was a true blessing for my family and I, They walk us thru every step of the way while still keeping it very professional. I cant say enough about how great they were to us, they went above and beyond making this journey for me and my family as humble as possible. Thank you Mr. Clendon you and your family for all you did for me and my family, I pray thatGod continue to bless you and your family business.

David McClendon

Dear Families, While making arrangements with one of our Families, a poem was presented to honor their loved one. The Family Member shared with me that the poem came from an article they had read. This is how it went: "God has given you His promise, That He hears and answers prayer, He will heed your supplication If you cast on Him your care." They wanted it to be printed on the back cover of the Obituary, hoping to console other Family Members and Friends. Therefore, I'm taking the opportunity to share it with you, and your Loved Ones, hoping it brings some consolation and peace during your time of Sorrow.

LAURA HARTON

From beginning to end, the McClendon family provided five star service. When my father passed, my brothers and I chose McClendon Mortuary, and we are so glad we did! They not only were professional and compassionate as we made arrangements for our father's home-going, they exceeded our expectations with class and dignity. Bless the McClendon family as they have been a blessing to us.

Ausar Varner

I would not recommend them they sent one of my friends away very under par and treated his mother with little respect if you want you family member to Rest In Peace and well do your research with them.

The McClendon “family” are just that...family. The service(s) rendered to my family in our time of bereavement were impeccable! During the time of grieving, we’re not always aware of the little things people or companies try to do for us. With McClendon Funeral Service, they not only remembered the smallest details, they orchestrated them with compassionate care, as though it were their own dearly departed. The entire staff were professional yet direct. Compassionate yet exacting of what our package entailed (no confusion). Leaving our family only to say goodbye in peace without worry or concern about the necessary process of sending a love one Home. Kudos to David McClendon for his staff(s) training and professionalism, as well as a special thank you for the personal touch of LaVerna McClendon, the “Compassionate”. I would and AM highly recommending McClendon Mortuary Service to “families” during their difficult times of saying goodbye. Sincerely, V. C. Johnson

My experience with this Funeral Home was when a family member passed away earlier this year and I attended their funeral. The level of professionalism was not there the care and responsibilities of a funeral home they failed at. In my experience funeral homes are suppose to make sure your loved ones home going smooth and rememberable but they did not do this they did not take care of my loved one in a manner that he should have been taken care of. Things that were requested of them was not done to my loves one satisfaction I feel as though that they failed at there job.

Jean Mcclendon

To our Bereaved Families, and Family Members, it has been our sincere pleasure to have serviced your Family during your time of sorrow and grief. We shall continue to lift you and your loved ones up in Prayer. We along with The Entire Staff, Thank you for selecting McClendon Mortuary and Cremation Service as your Funeral Home of choice.

Thank you so much the Nolen Family for the wonderful service that you provided for our family from start to finish

This was one of the places I called to get pricing when my loved one passed away. I actually went there and tried to speak with someone, there was a lady at a desk who said, "Come back a family is here viewing their loved one, and no one is available to help you." By the time someone gave us a call back, we had already chose Granberry Mortuary. From the NUMEROUS reviews below looks like we were SAVED, Granberry done an excellent job and treated us like FAMILY!

Funeral Homes are supposed to make you feel at home! Help you get through the death of your loved ones!!! They were very disrespectful to my late cousin ERIC D CLARK’S Mother Mrs. Angela Huggans! They didn’t take the necessary time to take care of my cousins body. They gave him the wrong casket, and knew they did and in the same breath and tried to argue and insult my cousins intelligence while she’s going through this traumatic time ! I remember him saying “Well it’s Blue” INCORRECT!!! IT WAS THE WRONG BLUE!! (Photographic proof) How low class of them to paste paper pictures of prayering hands on Eric’s Casket! (In place of his actual plaques) They ordered the wrong vault ! They had to take my cousins body back to the funeral home !!! FOR ANOTHER NIGHT! My cousin had to endure the entire burial service over AGAIN!!! Who wants to do that??? How careless could you be to treat my family like this after all we’ve gone through already. They were paid, yet we still received VERY horrible service! What a highly jaundiced impression to leave on such individuals! OUR VOICES WILL BE HEARD! SAY MY COUSINS NAME!! ERIC D CLARK (SM00V) Let’s go to say this is a BLACK OWNED BUSINESS! With all that’s going on in America if we can’t help our own, than how can we be trusted! These men the Father and His son should be ashamed of how they treated our family! We will have JUSTICE FOR SM00V! ERIC WE LOVE YOU ! And on the behalf of McClendon Funeral Home they will pay for how they treated you!!! ZERO STARS : For overall professionalism, Couth, Hospitality, Love and Care!!

Ric Sigma

All that was important to us, you professionally honored; all that we were unable to think of, you did. To have a loved one treated so respectfully at death means everything to the family. Our everlasting gratitude to you for your caring of my father and all of us. Thank you and God Bless You and your wonderful Wife!

Jane Doe Gates

Only reason I have a star is because it’s required to, But my love one was sent off and it was a poor, horrible experience. And when asked to correct the things that were done wrong it was done poorly and unacceptably. This funeral home got over and i would never recommend anyone to send their love one home from this place.

Candace Blankenship

They had the worst service of any funeral home Ive ever seen. They gave the family the wrong casket, the wrong vault, and messed up my friends body for the funeral so the family couldn’t open the casket! I refuse to believe their service is as horrible as it was. If you want your family to be satisfied with the homegoing service, DO NOT GO TO THE MCCLENDONS! We love you Smoov... karma is coming to the McClendons.

Tori Hill

McClendon Mortuary provided excellent services for our family member Tony Blanchard on April 3, 2019. We cannot thank David and his Son's enough for the professional and attentivenes to our families needs during this difficult time. The memorial and service was A++. Tony just looked like he was sleeping in heavenly peace. We would highly recommend McClendon Mortuary for your family members. Job extremely well done. Outstanding Services by McClendon Mortuary and Cremation Services.

I wouldn’t recommend this funeral home if I was dead the experience my family went through i wouldn’t wish that on anyone it was sad and pathetic. A funeral home is suppose too be there for the family in their time of grievement but nooooo they weren’t worried about how they did things as long as they got their money just poor service and selfish. My mother didn’t get too send my brother off because they bullshited everything and didn’t respect her wishes nor my brothers. I could get real nasty but don’t let these selfish, disrespectful, trifling, no good people have the privilege of burying your love one.

Funeral home employees should consist of thee most compassionate & understanding customer service people seeing as how when one comes to you they are suffering a great loss and needs that (extra) understanding & patience to help work through this extremely emotional time when decision have to be made for their loved one. I cant understand how, when one comes to you that they are treated with such disrespect and zero compassion for their loss. Are you really in this thing for just the buck?? Because that is exactly what it felt like when I watched my sister make arrangements to bury her baby boy and all of the specific details and choices she made was a non-factor!! What you may deem as small to someone that lost their CHILD it is everything!! IF you are going to give what YOU want the customers to have and make the choices for them then why would they need to come sit with you for hours to discuss things that aren't even available!! Your job is to give the customer what they want and PAY for (even if it causes you to work a little harder to get it done) NOT for you to try and LOOK at people and determine how deep their pockets are!! I am totally disgusted with YOUR services that were provided and you can rest assured I will never, ever refer anyone to McClendon Funeral Home!! I only chose a 1 star because I had to otherwise it would not be!! Maybe you all need to go to some sensitivity training or something because you have to realize that these arrangements that are being requested are a 1 time get it right type deal (or its supposed to be) there are no do overs and if its not done correctly that one and only time this does nothing but add to the grieving process!!

We've used McClendon Mortuary a few times and have decided to make them our family service provider. The facility is very nice, clean and modern. Mr. McClendon and his staff are knowledgable, professional, personable, and caring people.

Karmeen Powell-Childress

Dealing with the assassination of your eldest son is already life-changing and heartbreaking. My friend payed McClendon THOUSANDS to ensure that the homegoing process for Erick was less stressful; they FAILED. When we tried to resolve issues, their team began to become hostile. At one point, Jr., clearly frustrated, began taking off his jacket as if he was preparing himself to harm my mother! There are no amount of words to describe the additional pain and suffering that McClendon has involved Erick's family and friends in.

Vic Newman

Your extra attention to all the many details and the many extra things you did will always be remembered and appreciated. All the special touches you added for us meant more than you will ever know. You are such a wonderful gentleman and should be so proud of the difficult job you do each day.

I had a great help from this funeral home. My mother passed away and they were so much help for me that I told them that I want my going home service with them we God call me home. I mean it from the bottom of my heart they were a great help to me.

At least they had enough parking for a funeral that was postponed

The McClendon Mortuary was fabulous with my family. My mom had been sick for awhile so we were worried about how she may look. But to our surprise she looked beautiful. Thanks to Jason McClendon he definitely worked his magic. I can't stop singing praises to the McClendon Mortuary. I truly thank God for them they really got us through a tough time. I love them all Mr. & Mrs McClendon, David, Jason and Ms. Audrey . Much Love to you all and God Bless.

I really talk highly of this funeral Home . They did a well job on my mother Bernice Brisby funeral ,they treated us so kind .I recommend my best friend there for the home going of her son . My other friend for the home going of his brother . Now they pull some kinda bull.... On my Uncle funeral they gave my cousin and family a set price ,for his funeral last week .so they had him Cremated and said that they will take the remain to Jefferson Barrack . Guess what it not included in the price now ...they won’t Lawrence Hayes to pick up the Urn ⚱️ Monday 08/26/2019... and take it there himself how sad..his favorite Uncle I know it going to Be very hard on him, how sad is that ..I Am crying now OR he can pay 200.00 dollar in they will deliver it to the cemetery .when they said all this was included in the price This is Regina Brisby posting this ...They said a funeral Home will milk you until they got that whole Insurance Check .. SAD ...I told my children to take me there on my passing .. That had change now find another..Regina..

I would not recommend the McClendon funeral home to ANYONE. If you want your family member buried the right way, do NOT use this funeral home’s services. My god brother was killed on New Years Eve, and we spent two full days discussing prices and arrangements with Mr. McClendon Sr. who seems to be senile at this point. Originally, we wanted a fully open casket (a “full bed”, in funeral home terms) Mr. McClendon Sr. Stated that it would be “very expensive” and that if they sell 7, they would get a trip somewhere nice... basically saying that they don’t ever sell the full beds. He then tried to call one location, and stated that they didn’t have any so we couldn’t get them anywhere else. Due to his negativity, we decided on a light blue casket, with white sheets, that had a praying hand embroidered into the open part of the casket. We chose the Monticello vault that had both his name plate engraved with his name and birth/death date, attached to the vault, and an engraved feather on the other side of the vault. On January 6th, the day before the funeral, the family was invited to the funeral home to see the body for the first time. My god mother was already distraught due to her son’s passing, but then the funeral home had gotten everything wrong with the casket as well. The casket was a dark blue, with white sheets. There were no praying hands on the silver plates; the plates weren’t adorned like the casket we chose. Not only that, but his legs were so distorted and his legs were turned in a highly unnatural fashion. I guess Mr McClendon Sr. had this done so we couldn’t open the casket for my god brother. It was truly depressing seeing him distorted that way. So fast forward to the burial on Monday January 8th, we get to the cemetery- and the vault is incorrect too. It’s a royal blue, with scratches, the side says TITAN not Monticello... and the feather isn’t there, nor the name plate. My god mother asks me to pull up the picture of the vault we chose, and McClendon Jr once again has to try to fix the vault. Another burial scheduled for the next day. He brings us back on the 9th to the cemetery- and the previous vault had been spray painted, and he found a plastic feather similar to the picture and a plastic nameplate. Overall, they messed up every aspect of my brothers homegoing services that they were responsible for. They gave the worst possible service and distorted my brothers body! I would not recommend them to ANYONE, not even my worst enemy.

Where do I start,,,,,,on the the worst day of a person's life, when a loved ones passed, please, please think about the remains services that you choose. They were not only rude to the parent, but not professional. Alot of things that was purchased, was not there. The way the person was put away was totally unacceptable. They had actually released the entire family from the service and the remains had not been seen. And the only things that was offered was a Ahh...sorry. all I can say is WOW. I WOULD NEVER WANT TO HEAR A AHHHH SORRY AT MY LOVED ONES SERVICES. May God bless them in all that they do, and bless their business to become better, and have more concern and consideration for the families that choose to trust them with their loved ones on their last days.

From start to finish, our relationship with the McClendon family was above and beyond our expectations. It was apparent from day one that we were working with a blessed family and they were going to be a blessing to us. They worked with us in preparing and completing a home-going service for our loved one with compassion and professional expertise. While we were dealing with the emotions of losing a family member, the McClendons made our journey as painless as possible. There was no detail left to chance. Mr. McClendon went over the process step by step. We understood our options for selecting a service that would be not only dignified but comforting. Their goal was to make sure that they met and exceeded our expectations before, during and after the funeral. The McClendon Mortuary and Cremation facility is beautiful. And the McClendon family stands highly recommended by our family. Thanks so much.

Dorcus Thomas

McClendon Mortuary and Cremation Service gave me and my mother excellent service. Mr. McClendon and his son where professional and went out of their way in every step of my fathers funeral. My father a Veteran passed away of a heart attack. Mr. McCledon handled everything from picking up my fathers body from the hospital, too helping us pick the funeral package. They have packages to suit every financial situation. Mr. McCledon got on the phone the same day and called VA and arranged his burial site service. We had no minster at his service and he had a minster come in and say some words. His body was presented beautifully and the floral arrangements and music was excellent. The decor of his establishment was elegant, clean and quiet. His son came by with some paperwork and spoke to my mother. The whole staff was kind, efficient and courteous. Mr. Mccledon went above and beyond the service they gave my family during this time of loss. I would highly recommend them to all my friends and family.

I am speaking on behalf of the late John Gene Burnett family , this is the second time our family has used McClendon mortuary services and we were thoroughly and completely and aesthetically pleased with the level of service., Once again. on the night of the wake, so many of our family and friends who are not familiar with the McClendon mortuary were commenting on the location ,commenting on the facility , and commenting on the work that was rendered. Not only was the level of service at its highest level , so too was the hospitality of the employees , I say employees but they seem more like extended family members who were genuinely concerned. There were a few that were very very very inquisitive regarding the casket that my father was laid to rest in for more information regarding the casket please contact the McClendon mortuary and mention my Father John Jean Burnetts casket , and they will give you all of the much-needed details .Thank you once again McClendon family

It’s already unfortunate of loss of my boyfriend of 3 long years.. the love of my life.. the family, friends and I have been through so much and are still in disbelief of this, a homegoing service is suppose to be a unforgettable moment, the rememberance of a love one suppose to bring comfort and great care. As you can see, many have already expressed there feelings on this matter, And this is just terrible, no one should have to be treated as such, especially when thousands of dollars are being spent. I advise no one to choose this funeral home for your loved one. Justice for my baby...!

Jason Vasser-Elong

Jr. saves the day! I had an unbelievably poor experience and its unfortunate. So upon the initial meeting, Sr. mentions that he had just returned from skiing and travelling and then begins to speak about the different packages they offered. We agreed on an amount and spent about 20 minutes coming up with the money, but before I signed, I noticed that the sales tax was extremely high, close to $1000.00. Anyway, I asked Sr. if the sales tax was really that much and he said that that amount read $300 some dollars, when it in fact said something different. I verified with my siblings that the amount was nearly $1000.00 and Sr. persisted to berate my family, he even called one of his vendors and complained to him about us saying (while we were in the room mind you) "these folks don't have any money, I'm doing the best I can, you know how it is." I was so mad I began pacing and his son Jr., caught the mistake on their end and drew up a different itemized list for me to sign. At this point, Sr. had left the building. It gets better, at the burial, this guy makes an announcement that "the family is paid in full and doesn't owe any more money!" It took everything in me to remain respectful while doing my best to bury my father.

Dajuan Williams

My last review got erased because I used profanity in the way I feel about the McClendons. They messed up my bro’s homegoing services by messing EVERYTHING up from the casket to the vault... seeing his mama cry so hard from their mistakes right after she just LOST HER CHILD... I have so many words for y’all. I hope I never see them in person ever again.

Melanie Jackson

Funeral homes usually consists of professional staff members that understand how dealing with the death of a loved one is the single most difficult circumstance to work through. Grieving families seek Funeral homes out for guidance and assistance during every step of the way, from the time they are notified of the passing, to the days, weeks and months following the service. Instead, our family was told, “it should not matter… that the specifics requested by the family were not carried through”. It was more important for McClendon Funeral Home to take a cut throat-let’s just get this over with approach. There was a lack of compassion and unprofessionalism shown during the entire experience of our loved one while utilizing the services provided by McClendon Funeral Home in January 2018. It is apparent that this funeral is not committed to building trust, following through on contract details and attentive to the bereaved family. The quality of service was unpleasant, offensive, repulsive and ultimately distasteful. It is apparent that McClendon Funeral Home does not take pride in attention to details. Our bereaved family was not awarded the opportunity to experience a funeral home who maintains a high standard of professionalism. During this very emotional time, McClendon Funeral Home made it just as difficult by not meeting the needs, which demonstrated that this was a nonfactor for their business.

"Comfort & Class" They help you through the entire process of loss, mourning and most important… celebrating your loved ones life with the dignity that they deserve! David McClendon Sr. and his Family showed us respect and professionalism from the beginning to the end giving us peace of mind and closure.

Words seem inadequate to express our sincere appreciation for your help during the loss of our beloved Mother. Not only were we touched by your professionalism but your personal care for each of us. You were so willing and quick to answer our questions and offer assistance to be of help. Thanks also for your gift of the dress. She was absolutely beautiful. You did a magnificent job of preparing her body for eternal rest. Your prompt response and concern for the family will forever be remembered in a warm way. Thanks again on behalf of the family."

Miles Nettles

Poor service with all honesty it doesn’t seem like they really care but that’s just my opinion

shacquille Edwards

They way the treated my friend Erick Clark was disturbing and his family received nothing but disrespect. The position of his body, the casket, the head stone was all incorrect and disturbing to all and i wouldn’t have put a star if it had let me post without putting it

NDPendent Media

It always gives me a bit of hope when a company actually goes above and beyond the call of duty and provides excellent family support. “You brought comfort and compassion to our entire family at a very difficult time. You may say that is your job; however, I feel you went above and beyond that in answering questions, filling my requests for many items, and handling our large family with so much kindness. Your thoughtfulness and consideration are very appreciated. I have received so many compliments on how beautifully everything was handled - in every aspect. Your service is impeccable. You are a class act and I am so happy that we chose to use your services.

Antonia Pearson

McClendon Funeral Home failed to provide outstanding service when entrusted with our loved one. The owner was more concerned with boasting about his professional background and enterprise vs. meeting the needs and wants of the family with care and compassion. It was enough that our family was dealing with the loss of our loved but to have the funeral home provide a BOTCHED homegoing celebration caused further grief and devastation. They take advantage of your weakest moment. You pay for one casket but they give you another cheaper and of lesser quality casket. Then when confronted, they deny, lie and try to bully you into believing you’re so grief stricken you don’t realize you’re being scammed. We literally had to have a 2nd Graveside service the next day because they ordered the wrong VAULT. The body had to be taken back to funeral home to switch vaults, then we returned back to gravesite the next day to finally lay our loved one to rest. DO NOT TRUST McClendon MORTUARY and CREMATION SERVICES with your LOVED ones.
