As the saying goes, we are never ready when a love one passes away. In December, I lost my uncle and in February, I lost my grandfather. Our family was truly impacted! However, Hutchinson’s Funeral Home truly made the process bearable and honestly relieved a big load of the stress. They treated our family with pure kindness, answering all our questions and providing resources for every detail for both services. In my opinion they went above and beyond to show compassion for our family and show true honor for our deceased family members. They took care of all the “ins” and “outs” and even reached out to the family after the service to make sure we were doing well. I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking for caring professionals to aid in creating a honorable home going service. While I hope to not need their services any time soon, if we do have another person in our family that makes the transition, we would be honored for the final arrangements to be made through Hutchinson’s Funeral Services.

The Hutchison Funeral Home has provided my family with excellent service over the years, most recently two months ago. Service to my family began over twenty years ago when my grandparents made pre-arranged funeral plans for themselves. I initially chose this funeral home because of the reviews I read. I was still nervous, because everyone's experience is different. However, the Hutchison family was top notch. The family ran business gave us options, helped with paperwork, and even helped us track down military information we did not have in our possession. I never felt like they were trying to upsell us or take advantage of my family. During the days leading up to the visitation and funeral, Hutchison Funeral Home stayed on top of everything. We never had to wait days or hours for questions or concerns to be addressed. Even when I dropped the ball on a couple of details, they were there to assist. Words can't begin to express the amazing job they performed. I am humbled by their care and concern for my family as well as my father's body. My experience was top notch.

I was living out of state when I was received the bad news that my father had just passed away. I never coordinated arrangements for a funeral before but I knew this time I would have to. Hutchison Funeral provides 24 hour consultation. I called the Hutchison Funeral Home around 5 a.m. on a Tuesday and to my surprise someone answered the phone. Mr. Hutchison was patient, polite, sincere, empathetic, and most importantly informative. Once I arrived in Detroit and began the process, they walked me step by step through everything I needed to accomplish. They were very personable and compassionate. The entire staff executed their duties with the upmost professionalism from beginning to end. The worst experience with a Funeral Home in the Detroit area. We were confident that our mothers arrangements were in good hands due to a personal relationship with one of the staff at the funeral home. My family and I are originally from Jamaica so our mothers wish was to be laid to rest in our homeland. We had a service here which went well so we were even more assured that her journey back home would be smooth traveling. When our mothers remains arrived Jamaica the funeral home there did not know she was arriving due to lack of communication with Hutchison Funeral Home. We found this out because we just happen to call the funeral home in Jamaica to see if she was picked up. The funeral home in Jamaica stated that they didnt get notification or the proper documents for our mother to be picked up so until they received the documents they cannot pick her remains up; whenever our mom visited Jamaica family would come and meet her and for the first time she arrived and no one to pick her up so her remains had to sit at customs. We were all so heart broken and in shock of the lack of communication that cause this to happen. When we had our mothers final service with burial we had another major problem; her remains had started decomposing which forced us to make one of the hardest decision on having a closed casket service. Our entire family was so heart broken about not being able to see her one last time. A few days after her burial we did some research to see what happen and found out due to her remains not being embalmed properly caused the early decomposition. My family and I are very displeased with Hutchison Funeral Home. I personally would not do business with them next time around.

I live in Texas and received news from my father's companion that he was ill. I made it to Detroit by the end of the day and my father passed away two days later. My world had been turned upside down within a matter of just a few days and I had not the slightest clue how to plan a funeral. My dad told me some months before his transition that if anything ever should happen to him, he would want the Hutchison Funeral to handle his burial services. Now, I fully understand my dad's wishes. I worked mostly with Joseph Hutchison Jr. and he was a joy to work with. Considering how distraught I was over my dad's death, I never thought planning his funeral would be such a positive experience. Mr. Hutchison took out the time to learn some things about my dad and incorporated my dad's personality and hobbies into the visitation and funeral service. For example: Mr. Hutchison made sure that my dad's favorite music was playing during the visitation. He also put on display at the visitation items that reflected my dad's interest in playing pool, riding motorcycles, and playing horseshoes. My dad was also a member of a motorcycle club. Mr. Hutchison arranged it such that my dad's biker friends rode in the processional to the cemetery through downtown Detroit. Taking that route was really heartwarming because my father worked for a company based in downtown Detroit for well over ten years. My father also loved Detroit and it was nice to see him ride through the heart of it. The services were planned so perfectly that there is nothing that I can think of that I would have changed about the visitation nor burial service. Mr. Hutchison also did an excellent job with preparing my father's body. It meant so much to me to see that my dad looked like himself. If you are looking for a funeral home to help you plan your loved one's services, I strongly recommend that you work with the Hutchison Funeral Home. You will be glad that you did.

I read every last review once my grandmother past away on dec 18th. I searched high and low to find the best place for her to go. I had no experience in funeral arrangements but Joseph Hutchinson made the experience so easy with his superb customer service. He listened to everything we wanted for my grandma. In a sense he made me feel like family. He told me not to worry about a thing and I did just that. The service was beautiful and every detail that our family wanted or needed him and his staff was five steps ahead. I wish I could give 10 stars because they deserve more than 5. One of the hardest things to do in life is having to make funeral arrangements for a love one. My mother's request was to be cremated. I called Hutchinson funeral home at 630a.m made my appointment for 1pm that same day and by 3pm my mother was picked up from the hospital. The Hutchinson 's took pride in helping my family and I with this difficult time. The understanding and patience they possessed was remarkable. It almost felt like they knew my mother personally. They kept me updated daily to let me know excalty what was happening with my mother all the way up to her being cremated. We had order several keepsake items. They kept me up to date with those as well. I have nothing but postive feedback to say. They even provided us with 'thank you' cards to disseminate to our family and friends following the internment, which was such a thoughtful touch. Wow! There are not enough words to describe how great our experience was with this funeral home and staff!! From beginning to end, they were fast, friendly and so very compassionate. I needed the service to be completed in one day, and they worked extra hard to make it happen! On top of all that, when I was paying I did not bring enough for the taxes so they discounted my price!! I offered to pay the rest but they still discounted it AND gave my children amazing treats for the road trip home. After working out the dates of burial, my experience with Hutchinson Funeral home grow to become an excellent experience. I called and talked to Joe Hutchinson, one of the owners directly and he showed sympathy for my loss and immediately listened to my needs. I grew up in Detroit, but currently live out of town and I had the unfortunate duty of burying a loved one. I had the funeral in my state and the burial in Michigan. This was my first time dealing with something like this and I had no idea of the complete process. Joe walked me through all the logistical steps of getting my loved one home. The unexpected part but truly appreciated part was that he texted me and even included pictures showing me everything was processing smoothly. I received a text the day before my loved one was to arrive at Detroit Metropolitan Airport confirming the time of arrival, another text with a picture showing that he had her in his care and then a text the day before the burial confirming the day and time. Again, I requested none of the texts. This is top-notch service. He kept me at ease and I was able to focus on other important needs. Thank you Mr. Hutchinson!!!

Hutchinson Funeral Home is a family owned business that will treat you and your departed loved one like family. Along with being reasonable and sincerely sympathetic to the loss of our Mom, the Hutchinsons took the time to explain the final arrangement process. They provided options to satisfy our Mom’s final wishes and kept us updated each step of the way. In fact, whenever Joe, Jr. communicated with me he always said “Mom is…” not “your Mom” or “Mrs. so & so.” In grief, it was very comforting to know that our Mom wasn’t just a customer to the Hutchinsons -- she was being treated with the upmost respect and care. Moreover, the building is immaculate. You can tell the Hutchinsons take great effort to ensure that every inch of the place is clean and freshly scented (no medical smells here). My original plan was to talk to someone at a more commonly known funeral home in the city, but was given a referral to Hutchison Funeral Home instead (I'd never heard of them before then). When my aunt died on 2/16 at my home with Hospice, the funeral home was right there after the nurse called them late that night...They gave my family time with my aunt before they took her and since that time, the Hutchinson family has made our grief a lot easier to handle...They treated us with compassion, kindness, and respect...My aunt's home going service was on 2/25 and it was very nice considering we were memorilazing our loved one...The father and his son were supportive and gentle with our entire family and friends...The chapel is beautiful and my aunt looked very natural in her casket...if I could give them 10 stars I would...Thank you Hutchinson Funeral Home for making our time of sorrow and pain a little less traumatizing....
