My family and I began our search for a funeral home a few days before our mother's passing. The Greater Portland area offers a myriad of funeral home options for families to choose from allowing individuals the ability to select a funeral home that best fits their needs and budget. Considerations effecting my family's decision on which funeral home to select were cost, reputation, facility, services provided, proximity, and parking.
Starting with the facility. The location is convenient no matter where you are coming from or going to afterwards. It is spacious and allows for a large crowd of people to move around freely without feeling cramped. People don't have to worry about on street or side street parking because the parking lot allows for more than enough cars. The facility, entry, and rooms are current and pleasing to the eye. The staff are professional and welcoming. Water and coffee is also provided offering an inviting atmosphere for those who wanted to stay and visit for awhile.
We decided on a non-traditional theme for our mother's celebration of life and not only received the free-will to do what we wanted in terms of setting up the room, but we also had the assistance of our Funeral Director to help us do it.
The hearse. My original thought was that a hearse is a hearse is a hearse... but in the end, having our mother take her last ride in a new, clean, and classy hearse added a touch of class that I hadn't considered before. Even the funeral procession was handled in a manner that made it feel like our mother was being honored and left no option for the interruption from outside traffic.
Pricing and transparency. There are no hidden costs and we didn't feel like we were being sold something we didn't need or couldn't afford. We were provided with funeral package pricing as well as a list of all services provided and the individual costs. You can make it easy and select from several packages or go through the individual services and choose only the items you want. In the end, our mother received the dignified, honorable, and classy service she deserved.
Lastly, I attribute our overall positive experience and five star rating to the Funeral Director, John Tanguay, who I felt, went above and beyond his role to provide my family and I with the empathy, respect, friendship, and top notch service we needed during this difficult time.
I highly recommend Jones, Rich & Barnes.
