I can not say enough how compassionate the people at this funeral home were. My father died while my parents were on vacation, and the people at Schoen Funeral Homes were so helpful walking us through the process to get him cremated and back home again. They were compassionate, knowledgeable, and kind during the hardest days of our lives. We could not have asked for more.

Complete lack of respect for the deceased. This firm ignored the written, notarized wishes of the deceased regarding decision making and possession of his remains. When the usurping “family” was unwilling to pay for services, the company shipped the remains to the city morgue without ever contactIng the original person who should have rightfully been directing all decisions. Only two months later is the right thing being done, thanks to the morgue calling to inform of an impending city burial and giving opportunity to intervene. A man of dignity and his loved ones have been denied peace for months due to this uncaring facility.

This was an incredible funeral home that offered us wonderful service and comfort during such a horrible time. They executed the service off site at our synagogue perfectly and the amount of people that commented on how beautifully everything was done really made the day a positive experience. I can not recommend Patrick Schoen and his team enough. This experience will stay with me forever, despite the sadness behind losing our mother.

My teenage grandson died suddenly and unexpectedly in Children's Hospital. We are located out of state. I was handling the arrangements for his cremation and trying to figure out the logistics of getting him back to our home. I called Jacob Schoen & Son. It was after 6:00PM. Whoever answered was very nice and asked me some information about my grandson. I explained I WANTED INFORMATION regarding transporting his body versus cremation in New Orleans and costs. I was told someone would get back in touch with me. After waiting a little, I contacted a local funeral home in the area in which I live. They assured me that they would be able to transport him at no charge and handle everything. The next morning, I received a phone call saying that Jacob Shoen Funeral Home had picked up my grandson's body from Children's Hospital at 2AM. (They had been able to do this because they had the information the person had requested initially - his full name and date of birth.) They were not on the hospital paperwork nor were they authorized in any way pick him up. They told my local funeral home it would cost $500 to retrieve his body from them. It is 5 miles from Children's Hospital to Jacob Shoen Funeral Home so they wanted $100 a mile basically for picking up my grandson's body and transporting it 5 miles. I called Children's Hospital and after several phone calls, they handled it. I do not know how it was resolved but I hope they did not pay the money. This is despicable. There was no misunderstanding here. I have to wonder why a 2AM pickup. I know traffic can be a bear in NO but that is suspect on top of not having authority, not returning my phone call and trying to get $500 to release for the body of my grandson.

I recently suffered the untimely and unexpected death of a dear, dear friend. The anxiety of having to handle arrangements along with all the other details needing attention while I was grieving a deep loss was overwhelming for me. When I arrived at Schoen's and I first met Funeral Director Kevin Hasson I was comforted by his quiet demeanor and calming words. Kevin helped me through some very stressful circumstances and for that I am extremely thankful. It wasn't the business-as-usual attitude I am so often faced with, but his help was kind and compassionate Thank you Kevin, and all of the Schoen's staff I was in contact with, for helping me during my ongoing time of grief.

Beautiful place. Kevin was so sweet. The only problem my sister in law and I had was that no costs were discussed. And we had to ask how much everything would cost. Also we were never asked what the budget was.

The funeral went very well and there weren't any problems. Everything was done as planned and Stefani was a huge help. I appreciate all the work done for my grand aunts funeral and am very thankful for everything done.

First of all, let me say, the prepaid funerals are a joke. My dad bought one, and paid on it for years. So, when my dad passed, they showed me the casket they were offering at the time for that prepaid funeral. Basically, it was cardboard covered with this fuzzy material. So, when we wanted to step up the casket and told them we would be more then happy to pay the difference. Well, they said, either take this casket, or we will allow you $500 off a funeral. So, as you can imagine, this is a very emotional time and I couldn't believe they treat people like this. They will tell you anything to sell you one of these crummy policies. You are better off, buying life insurance and you can buy what you want when a loved one passes. Don't let these leeches have your money.

A special Thank You to Funeral Director Stefanie Weigel, who was a great help and voice of calm reassurance during a difficult time. In addition to assembling an excellent slide show on DVD, she even helped carry my Mom's casket (along with the priest she found for us!) to its final resting place. The Schoen Funeral Home is a beautiful building, and we were able to say goodbye to my Mom there with all the respect and dignity she deserved.
