My family and I have used Rodgers-Awkard & Lyons Funeral Home on several occasions. We were very satisfied at all times. Although the actual services were held at churches, the staff made sure everything ran like clockwork. They were there from start to finish. I would like to give a special shout out to Louise Pennix, whom I personally know and who has always gone over and beyond the call of duty. Even when there are family issues among the family, she played an important role in making sure the funeral services were handled and complied with the wishes of those handling and paying for the arrangements. I also know for a fact that this funeral home will "work with you" if there is a financial issue. I have referred others to this funeral home and they too, have been very satisfied with the services received.

Today I went to pick up my fathers Death certificate when I got there I opened up the envelope and there was only 2. When I signed my paperwork I had ordered 3 death certificates. I asked Clarence nwhere my 3rd death certificate was and his response was “I don’t know” then he went on to tell me that he could make me some copies. I said no I want my 3rd death certificate that I paid for when I paid for my fathers funeral, I still have the receipt with my signature on it. Well yesterday I get a call from my Uncle explaining that my death certificates were ready because my aunt Betty told him to call me. Louise who works in the office gave my aunt one of my death certificates that I had paid for. I don’t know why this funeral home think it’s ok to give someone a copy of my fathers death certificate. Clarence Benboe gave me 2 copies and 2 of my original death certificate but I explained to him that he will get me my 3rd death certificate that I paid for when I paid for the funeral service. What type of company does business like this? I have also contacted me a lawyer to see if I possibly have a case because I’m sure they have done things like this in the past but I’m going to be the one to make sure it won’t happen to someone else. As a business it is not ok to give someone an official document of the state. Don’t use this funeral home Clarence and Louise are very unprofessional and not to mention they will give out documents I’m which you have paid for. This is the main reason why black business are not trusted in the community because it’s black people like this who will try to get over on you.

Piss poor Funeral services Louise and Clarence are very unprofessional they claim to serve the black community but do a horrible job at it. They don’t care all they care about is that money you give them. GO ELSEWHERE DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!!! They don’t follow funeral ethics at all. Pitiful place and pitiful people!

We used Rodgers-Awkard and Lyons this past Saturday for my brother's services. From beginning to end they were professional and accommodating even when my attitude wasn't the best (I'm sorry) . They did a great job with my brother and I'm so appreciative. I don't want to need their services anytime soon, but I would recommend them.

I was referred to this funeral home , Im a Caucasian woman Burying my biracial son ( as if that matters) the male funeral home director explain to me that he had four funerals on a Saturday but however he could probably fit me in. Then I asked how was that even possible beans that I only seen one room to have a funeral he said 3 hour increments. He also commented that how he Services the black community. I then explained that I would prefer to have it at a church of my choice and would that be an extra cout he told me no. So for the cost I signed a contract with him and I souly then I paid cash for the complete funeral made arrangements for casket Service delivery and also the programs. My son's body did not show up to the next day to the funeral home which opened at 10 I was in the parking lot at 9:20 waiting for them to unlock the door to view my son. I then got into the bbuilding.After viewing my baby I questioned about the programs and if they were ready for me to view. They explain to me however the father of the deceased took out his three-year-old son because he did not want to submit to being the biological father of that child. I then told him his contract was not with the father it was he and I had the contract I was the one that paid for it and that I would then sue him for the fact that he breached our contract. I was Burying my second child within 3 months I then I had to cancel the programs that I had originally submitted because he made his own changes at his own discretion. I then took another 24 hours out of my time not to mention my grieving to make my own programs and I was very dissatisfied with the service and the professionalism of the staff.

In response to Ms.Lovely Black's review concerning Awkard's Funeral Home, they have done nothing wrong. On the day of her signing the paper work, we shared with Ms.Black that my mother (her grandmother), wanted a copy of the death certificate for keepsake for her sons's death. The third copy has been returned to the funeral home to give to Ms.Black (my niece). She left out of the review that I gave her money toward the cost of the funeral, paid for the rental of the church for the funeral, and the facility for the repass. I am praying that God covers my niece in whatever she is going through due to the death of my brother (her father). The family was only trying to be there for her. Again, Awkard Funeral Home has done nothing wrong. The staff of the funeral home have been nothing but professional and kind to our family during this process. I love you Ms.Black and love never fails.

People wonder why others dont support their businesses. Clarence and Louise are very unprofessional and underhanded in how they treat people.
