Our family had a service for a loved one under the direction of Lawerence A Jones in Kansas City, MO. The planning meeting was with a lady that was very kind and sensitive. She went over the prepaid funeral plan, answered our questions and explained the service well. Unfortunately we have several complaints. Please see below: 1. We asked for a obituary template but she forgot to give us one. 2. We sent the Life Reflection section of the obituary that goes in the local Call newspaper. She explained to us at the meeting that she needed the part of the obituary that goes in the Call paper no later than 10:00am on Wednesday. We sent it to her on Wednesday at 9:47am. Our family members obituary did not appear in the Call newspaper that same week. It appeared the following week. 3. On the same day during evening hours a second email was sent to the same lady that included the remaining sections of the obituary and pictures. The list of Active and Honorary Pallbearers and the Order of Service were included in the email. Friday the lady sent a copy of the obituary from the print shop. I quickly read through it and found several changes that we did not authorize: A. Inserted the word “her” when it really should have been “his” because we were referencing her brother B. Changed the format. Paragraphs were choppy and didn’t flow, colons, semi colon changes without going over it with us C. Pallbearers were not added to the back of the Obituary. D. Added a song of their choice “His Eye Is On The Sparrow “ with out checking to see if we were ok with the selection. I thought that I forgot to send the pallbearer info but searched my emails and saw that I sent it. I tried calling the lady but she was in a meeting so I decided to text her. She called me back. I pointed this out to her on the phone call. She said the print company may have started the print job but she would check to see if they could make changes. She sent me a text to say “sorry it’s already running “ I sent her a text explaining the Order of Service was also included in the email and someone added “His Eye Is On The Sparrow “ and we did not authorize that song. She never texted back, emailed or called about this. Not 1 time did she say someone will proofread and make changes they see fit without our approval. 4. When we took our family members clothing to the funeral home the receptionist was rude. She was typing when we entered. She looked up and said hello. We said hello and told her that we were dropping off the clothing. She didn’t say “sorry for your loss “ or “please have a seat” or anything! She picked up the phone and called someone to tell them the clothes were there. She hung up the phone, started humming and typing. We just stood there, not sure what to do. I asked “is someone on their way to speak to us or what do we do”? She said “ just place the clothes on the rack” she pointed to a coat rack. I took them and hung them on the coat rack. I asked “ is that it”? and she said “yes”. We said “thank you”. She said “ ummm hmmm, be blessed “ and returned to humming and typing. Very insensitive, horrible customer service! To sit there and not come from behind the desk to at least shake a hand or take the clothes and hang them up is horrible! 5. The funeral plan included a $100 check to be issued to the person that performed the Eulogy. She explained that the check will be handed to the pastor at the end of service. The check was not given to the pastor. The following business day a family member called to request the check. They told her to pick up the check at the front desk. She went to LAJ to pick up the check. She was handed an envelope. On the way home she decided to open the envelope. No check in the envelope. She had to turn around and go back to the funeral home. 6. In the book that they give the family they listed her spouse as “The Love of Her Life” instead of her husband. In the Life Reflection section it did say he was the love of her life but it also said they were married for 54 years.
