I would not recommend mourning the loss of family member at this place or it won't be a pleasant experience, I know mine wasn't. I'm sure your lost one deserves better It's very small inside! There is no air-conditioning Not a good combination Being that it's a tight squeeze inside, our relatively small family were spilling over into the lobby We were creating a light murrmurr in the lobby So the staff constantly yelled my family about being quiet Meanwhile there was a full blown church session with soul gospel music going on the other side of the wall If you can afford better don't do this place

Attended a service here this weekend and it was very rude and distasteful that u can hear the entire service of another family, and unable to focus on your service. A few of the staff was also short and rude. I definitely wouldn't recommend this facility.

I am very disappointed in the miscommunication on the funeral home. My aunt passed on December 31. The people that removed her remains we very careful and polite. The day we sat down with the director Tiffany who is very unprofessional didn't explain the cremation process as to where she was going to be cremated but she was in a bit of a hurry and pushy. My cousin was already struggling to be there. No one who has just loss their mom is really looking to be rushed while taking care of her final arrangements. My aunt stated she didn't want a service. So my cousin kept telling her that she wanted to see her before she was cremated. That seemed to be ignored totally as Tiffany never addressed it. After saying it maybe 6 times she stated she had put a request in the computer and they would contact her. The business was handled and upon leaving my cousin stated I really want to see my mother before she leaves here. So days went by no call from the funeral home so we began to call to seek answers but nobody knew anything. We started asking for the owners who aren't strangers to us. We use this black owned funeral home often. They weren't never available. They had been paid but couldn't find the check stated Octavious why in the hell you can't find a check from the insurance company. A week later we were finally able to see her before she left or so we thought. We go in the Sunday after she passed to see her. Upon entering all you smell is embalming fluid. The cleaning lady was very pleasant but she could barely move. Uncle Jerry( Leaks Sr. Brother) was sitting in the corner sleep. Then after sitting there for 30 minutes the young lady finally came and took us in the back there sat 2 caskets with bodies in them and my aunt was in this room that smelled like death looking like she did when they removed her from her house. We we're told that she was leaving that Monday. So a few days went by and no word once again from the funeral home so calls started back to them with no return call from the owners. They finally told us she was still waiting on the medical examiner to come get her and was given their number. Upon talking to the ME they stared that they had just got a call to come about my aunt nose she has been laying there with no preservation at all for 2 and a half weeks already. The gentleman stated they he was picking her up today which was on the 18th and he was going to take her to the crematory himself and would take my cousin her remains and death certificate on Monday the 21st. Why didn't the funeral home contact the family to let us know what was going on? Had it been a payment plan they would have been hounding and stalking yhe phone lines. We will never use them again and definitely won't eeccomend them to a family looking to make arrangements for nobody not even a pet. I'm very disappointed in the behavior of the staff, the smell of the funeral home, the mishandlement of my aunt, and the lack of accountability of the owners.

Many family members of mine has been serviced here and I have nothing but praise for Leak and Sons. However, I must say I read some of the other comments and many of them are none too positive. I suggest if you have issues with this facility please seek out Spencer, Sr. or Spencer, Jr and let them know your concerns. I'm sure they do not tolerate Rudeness or unprofessionalism at their business. They are not in the business of driving customers away. And anyone who does that is sending revenue to the competition. Let the owners know you're not happy. That's who makes the final decisions. Their goal is to bring clients in not push them away. Never settle with talking to the employees who have nothing to lose. Many employees doesn't care because they're not owners. Go to the owners and make them aware of your concerns. I believe you will then get the proper results. Good Luck.

Thank you to the Leak and Sons Funeral Home. A special Thank You to Leon Leak. You were Awesome, making sure that we had everything that we needed, and was treated with respect. You did an exceptional job with my husband. The cost was not outrageous, and the staff was very friendly. The only problem that I encountered was with Unlimited Flowers, the flowers that I ordered, were not there for the Homegoing Celebration of my husband. My family has been using this family company since I was a kid . You never really see the unprofessional side of a company until you have to wear those shoes I've lost my mom who could never be REPLACED and leaks and son were whom my family used BECAUSE they were like family never in a million years would I have ever seen such CARELESSNESS in a family COMPANY that been around before I was born never the less as a COMPANY I do UNDERSTAND that as an owner you have other obligations but a lack of communication should have been addressed both senior and jr. Were unable to talk to myself or my aunt about the SITUATION we were passed of to others who were unable to help the matter my moms body was pick up by leaks and son on Dec 31 my mom had insurance and unfortunately she didnt have a Primary care doctor so the medical examiner was told to come and inspect the body to make a long story short this company didnt contact me let me know that my moms body was still SITTING and this FUNERAL home my moms body had been there for Approximately 14 to 17 days I called the FUNERAL home every other day no one had any answers but unfortunately they were paid by the insurance company and I had no REMAINS or any answers I FINALLY talk to someone who gave me the medical examiner number in which he stated that leak had just given them a call UNFORTUNATELY i couldn't get the date in which leaks had contact them but I was told that someone had went out to inspect my moms body but she was not ready and AGAIN this was about the 17th day of January that she was there leaks DIDN'T communicate with me about anything I had to keep CALLING them finally I spoke with someone name Octavius in WHICH he pick up were Spencer Leaks jr Left off Octavius did his best I guess which wasn't good enough for me because I still didnt have her REMAINS I was told so many different stories by this time I was Livid and looking for answers Octavius never CALLED me I had to call him and if I called him and he never ANSWERED that when I received a call back from him my moms body was taken to the Examiners office by Octavius by this time it was the 23rd of January I FINALLY received her REMAINS on the 25th of January this company makes so much money off of PEOPLE like myself and no one has enough sense to communicate with u about your love One I feel as if it's all about money with them if I had been on a PAYMENT plan and they were looking for a PAYMENT I would have received a call the director my FAMILY set with was Tiffany Evans who SOMEONE at leaks stated that she was the best if she your best then You need to regroup BECAUSE she lacks Professionalism communication and again. I usually don’t write reviews if I could put no stars or negative stars I would, however this has really been on my heart every since the funeral I tried to let this go but I’m hurt and this was a traumatic experience this was the last memories we had of my aunt and I think the community needs to know the lack of professionalism and the kind of people who own this business they have been around death so much they have lost their compassion for people. My experience here recently was so disrespectful, hurtful, and heartbreaking. From the time they picked my aunt up they were unorganized no one contacted us to ask for pictures to even see what complexion she was, in fact there wasn’t even an actual consultation to find out what our wishes were. When my family sat down with them it was strictly about money nothing more or less my aunt had been there for a couple of days before I took it upon myself to contact them and I spoke to Mrs. Leak personally about my concerns and sent her a picture myself. We corresponded for a couple days never once did she tell me that they had already embalmed her, so the day of the wake which they double booked might I add, my fiancé went to view her and put the finishing touches on her she called me and said “your aunt doesn’t look like herself, if they wouldn’t have told me this was her I wouldn’t have known”. My heart dropped in my stomach so I asked her what’s the problem she couldn’t even respectfully tell me what she really wanted to say, so she asked me if I wanted a picture and I agreed. When I received the picture my aunt was way too dark, her foundation was half done, she looked mummified, her mouth was crooked and was not closed so obviously it wasn’t a smile on her face either. You would’ve thought she passed from a stroke the way the work was done it looked amateur and rushed. So when I told my fiancé to ask about her mouth they Initially told her she’s already embalmed and there’s nothing they could really do at this point. They were also rushing to move her to the Country Club Hills location for the wake and just In case you were wondering my aunt passed from breast cancer so I wasn’t expecting her to look exactly like herself because she was a little smaller, but it wasn’t like she passed from a trauma or anything that they would have to reconstruct anything on her, to continue my fiancé and I met them at Country Club Hills and I expressed my concerns to them and they called in Mr. Leaks son the light skinned guy I told him exactly how I felt.This guy had the nerve to be offended while looking at all the obvious mistakes, it was him and two ladies standing there one was an embalmer but she wasn’t the one who worked on my aunt but she did offer to help me and she did, she did what she could under the circumstances but it wasn’t her mistake it was the embalmer Rasheeda I’m assuming she’s inexperienced or she’s just bad at her job.I asked him about her complexion and he told me they couldn’t go lighter which the actual embalmer said herself she could go a little lighter and he spitefully told her no, then he tries to counsel me saying I’m grieving as if I don’t see what I’m seeing. When I asked about her mouth, and why they didn’t put a smile on her face he gave me some bs about putting a smile on their face is a myth and when I told him that was a lie because I had seen it done and I had done my own research prior because I had an unsettling feeling, he then told me in a condescending tone well if you know so much do you know about a natural mouth closure it took everything in me to not respond how I was feeling. I even asked if they bathed her body and I asked that, because when I looked at her hands it was something stuck to them and she still had on her hospital bracelet and her wrist was ashy underneath the band might I add, this was minutes before her viewing. Meanwhile I said this without cursing this guy but I was definitely upset. ⬇️ Continuation of this review on Simply Sweetness review ⬇️ It wouldn’t let me write it all on this one

This service was the worst I have ever experienced. There was too much confusion. Things were not done in a timely manner according to the schedule we were given. Family and friends arrived to pay their respects at the viewing of our loved one and he was not ready. When he finally was ready, it looked like a rushed job. The area used for the viewing needed a major clean up. We were told documents were ready and waiting at front desk to be picked up. We called to say we were on our way and was told there was nothing there. A donation was accepted, (which should NOT have been) without contacting our family. These are just a few things that caused extra stress on our family during a difficult time. Truely our family did not receive that "personal touch" that others have experienced.

If I could score lower I would!!!! It was dirty, they had a corpse in their holding area, with the door open and all you smelled was embalming fluid and decaying flesh they put the body in a room with no ventilation and they had us waiting in the hallway right outside the room and we all started gagging, soon after we complain they sat us in a different place. They were not professional at all!!!

Leaks did an awesome job on my dad. Philip Lowman Jr. We were happy with the presentation of our dad, husband to our mom, Pappa to his grandson Jammy, etc. One thing wrong....they need to have a pamphlet with all the partculars the family needs to tend too. After all has been said and done, we find out we need to fill out a form in order for Social Security to be informed of our dad's passing. This form was to be given to us by the funeral home. We were never informed. Got the $$$$$ and didn't complete all what needed to be done with the family. A business of this nature needs to be more informative to their customers as to what they're responsible for in order to complete family members final resting homes. This adds extra stress on us, and others when you forget to let us know what we need to do. Thank you. Again our father, and husband, etc. Look fantastic. Lisa Lowman daughter, New York/New Jersey.

My brother died he was the oldest child before I began, my family used Leak & Sons for the past 40 years from my grandmother, uncles, aunts, cousins family friends since 1970. This funeral isn't what it used to be the staff are younger and not experience like the seniors. I heard good stories about this funeral over the past 30 years and the stories was good, until my brother's death July 18, 2015 My family decided to have a Memorial Service because he was cremated, One the day of the memorial service I was told to bring everything to the funeral home, the DVD disk with his photos, Gospel CD and a Peace Lily plant. Me and my out of town cousin from Memphis did just that, one of the staff members ensured "Oh just leave IT we'll take good care and it will be in place" So on the morning of my brother's memorial service I went up their hours early to check up on their service. I notice my brother's name wasn't on the board meaning no one know which room his service was held at, when I asked about my brother's service the staff member didn't know what I was talking about, I had to raise my voice lightly to get some answers the front desk ladies seemed confused. Until one of the funeral home director ensured me "We got you" So now hours later my brother's service begins 14:00 hrs and the staff member gave my family very poor service, the DVD player in the chapel needed to be undated (The DVD video only played once you had to get up and push play to restart) The Gospel CD wasn't playing because I was told by a staff member "Oh we can't play the DVD and CD at the same time" I'm like "As much money this place makes and you can't buy better quality DVD/ CD player??? So are the service began the had a organ guy who was very horrible at singing. (I was soooooo embarrassed by the singing) We all looked around liked "WTH??" Anyway that Monday on the behave of my family, I hadgo down to the funeral home to complain about the poor and unprofessional service Leaks provided. I talked to this jerk of a manager not Mr. Leaks Sr. himself, this manager was unprofessional and we angry because I called his staff "Unprofessional" The manager stated to me "We all makes mistakes" True but you guys are suppose to be professional WHO GOT PAID!!!! This manager wasn't pleasant to talk to he seem careless about family members who policy isn't over $10,000. Mind you all,there was a big funeral in ahead of my brother service in the AM and you better believe they busted their asses to make sure that cop's sister funeral service was perfect!! Oh and the Peace LiLy plant wasn't in the chapel on the day of our service... THEY MISSSED PLACED MY AUNT'S PLANT!!! WE FOUND THE PLANT IN THEIR FRONT LOBBY AREA IN THE CORNER SOMEWHERE!!! WITH NO NAME ON IT AFTHER THE SERVICE!!!! WE GOT NOT THANK YOU CARDS UNTIL MONDAY MORNING!! Back to this manager we both settled well they settled took some money off my tab, for there mix up. I don't want to tell you the amount they deduced. Anyway I was very unsatisfied with the service we paid for and I would highly recommend not to use this funeral home again because I wont Mr. Leak Sr or the managers should instead of over staffing his workers get some people who's knows how to multitask and get the job done. Leaks needs to go back to the old school ways these new Jack's don't know Jack!

5 years ago I posted and now I'm posting again in 2019. Leak and Sons are AWESOME. If you have never seen your loved one looking as though they were just sleep, then you should use Leak and Sons Funeral Homes. My family has used them since 1984 and recently May 2019. Leak and Sons has never failed us in service or price. Leak and Sons are the best. My father passed in 1984, my mother in 2002 and my sister in 2014 and I must say, well done to Leak and Sons, My love ones looked as if they were only sleeping, the makeup was perfect. This is my first time providing a review, I felt that everyone should know how well Leak and Sons took care of my sister's remains and my family in a time of need. I was lost, calling around to funeral homes in Georgia and airlines to find one that shipped remains. I got so frustrated, then I called Leak and Sons because I knew I wanted them to prepare my sister for her funeral. My God, they took care of everything for me. The notified a funeral home in Georgia to embalm and ship, they even made sure my sister was picked up on the same day she made her transition because I did not want her to go to the county. The prices I was quoted by the funeral homes in Georgia and the airlines was twice the cost Leak and Sons charged. As I and my other love ones make our transitions best believe that Leak and Sons will handle our services.

Reasonable with prices, My family uses the facility in Country Club Hills the staff is real nice, but during the nightly viewing my mom’s makeup got messed up and one of her arms was moved. These thing was not fixed for the funeral. Some of the staff in the Chicago office need to work on their customer service skills and communicating the processes after funeral is over.

This place is terrible. The staff has no respect for the deceased. Mr. Spencer Leak Sr. has gotten too old and could careless. He should be ashamed. If you make the request for them to pick up a body from a hospital you better stay on them. It took them almost two weeks to pick up my grandmother remains from Mercy Hospital. The older lady who dealt with the insurance companies back in 2013 is rude, lazy and disrespectful. I believe she's a family member. Forget about complaining, because I expressed my concerns with Mrs. Leak personally and she told me that Mr. Spencer Leak Sr. would get back to me and I've been waiting since 2013. On top of grieving the loss of a relative, this place is guaranteed to disappoint you. After the recent news of the body mix ups, I will never use this place again.
