I've only had one other professional massage, but it was vastly different and better than the one I received here. When I first arrived, I was taken back to a small, dimly lit room with a curtain on the door. It was very warm-too warm, in my opinion. The room seemed clean and the masseuse seemed professional and pleasant enough. However, she didn't provide any explanation of the protocol, but simply left and came back 5 minutes later and asked if I was ready. I had to ask exactly what to do and what I was supposed to use as a cover. She also did not ask if I wanted any particular type of massage or if I was having any specific type of pain or problem areas. She simply came in and started giving what I thought was a very deep massage. I had to ask multiple times for her to be gentle. There were a number of times I actually winced in pain. She focused primarily on my back, upper front thighs and calves, neck and head. There was no focus on feet, ankles, or back of the legs. The lubricant used was Equate baby oil. The masseuse drenched, I mean drenched, me in it. When she moved on to my face and head, she continued to use the oil and rubbed it through my hair. I was not expecting a facial massage and went there with makeup on. Needless to say, it was smeared when I left and I worried the oil might not be great for my face. When she was finished, she did wipe me off with a hot, wet towel, but I still left feeling unpleasantly greasy. So much so that I had to immediately go home and shower. Overall, this was an unpleasant experience and felt like a waste of $60. My back was still as tense and sore when I left as it was when I arrived. Many muscles now feel bruised and tender, which may be a good indicator to some, but was not what I was looking for. I realize now I should have spoken up more, but given that I told her to be gentle more than once, I suppose I felt awkward barking out specific instructions about where to rub and how to do it. The masseuse should provide a brief consultation at the beginning of the session to get an idea of what the client is wanting. They should also use another type of lubricant that absorbs better. Oh, yeah, and while it seemed clean, there was a faint smell of cat pee ever-present during the massage itself, which was obviously unpleasant.
