This place is hidden behind the Phonecia market on Burnett. Pretty standard lobby area. They have massage friendly lotions and oils available for purchase. The massage area is made up of various tables surrounded by ceiling curtains for privacy. My massage was surprisingly nice. Shantel a student there was very thorough and really worked a small miracle on my soar calves. Mind you this is a school and students are still refining their skills. For the price it was a great value. I would recommend anyone to come here. A win-win for just $35 for one hour.

The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School is one of the best schools in the country. The owners are therapists of integrity and experience. Many new schools with flashy advertising have a poor curriculum and no real track record. The Lauterstein-Conway School has been providing excellent education for almost three decades. When therapists own a school rather than a corporation the quality is strikingly different. If you are considering enrolling in a massage school please do your research so that you make the best choice. If you choose The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School you could do no better.

One of the best kept secrets in Austin, which is why I'm hesitant to tell you about it. :-) Massages are an expensive and splurge-y affair. I don't know many people who can afford to receive quality massages on a regular basis--they're just too damn expensive. With Lauterstein-Conway, however, affordability is not an issue. Here's why this gem is one of the best kept secrets in Austin and here's some info to help you decide if it's right for you: - $35 for a one hour massage by one of their student interns. The massages are a real, straight-up 60 minutes, not 45 or 50 like some of the other places that advertise an "hour". - By law, you are not allowed to tip (since they are practicing for their license). - Student interns performing massage are professional, friendly, and eager to do a good job. When you finish your massage, you have to fill out a feedback form that the student reviews with you, so depending on your feedback, things could be slightly awkward. - The facilities, beds, and linens are squeaky clean. And while there's isn't a water feature, candles, or big leather chairs like many spas have, the facilities are perfectly acceptable for the price you're paying. - You're massage does not take place in a private room, but in a large room sub-divided by floor-to-ceiling curtains. So, while you have visual privacy, you will be able to hear everything going on around you. - Everything runs on time, and the office staff are helpful, friendly, and professional. - They book up very quickly and you'll likely have to schedule at least two weeks in advance. Please don't go to Lauterstein....I don't want it to become any more difficult to get an appointment than it already is. ;-)

Where to begin...25 years ago I made the decision to go to massage therapy school and after doing a little research (word of mouth and that's all we had back then) I began my training at The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School. Not only did it teach me everything about the body and how to fix my own chronic back problems it taught me how to touch others, mind and body. 25 years later a private practice is now a chain of massage spas where I have the honor of hiring the new generation of graduates. Thank you TLC!

Where do I start? There are so many positives about Lauterstein-Conway Shool & Clinic. The process of becoming a massage student was very easy. The admissions person was there for every step until I was registered for school. And, the financing was an easy process too. Let me just say, they are by far affordable! I'd checked into other school with higher cost and pass rates for board much lower. Lauterstein-Conway they have a tough program, study, study, study! But, they prepare you for the board certification. I've sat for two boards certification previous, LVN and RN. Both I felt very uneasy about taking the boards. I questioned was I ready for the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN. However, with the level of teaching alone I feel confident I will pass the MBLEX. The curriculum is tough, but when you are going to provide massage you need to know what is what and where everything connects. Oh, and, David and John (the owners) are always around the school and helping students. By choosing this school as your institution to learn massage you are making the best decision of your life!

I saw Wendi for my massage and honestly I can’t rave about her enough. She was very responsive, checked in about the pressure levels regularly, and wasn’t afraid to really work the problem areas in my upper back. Intuitive and gentle touch (when called for!). She offered some great advice post-massage and really made me feel important and heard. I am literally about to call and make another appointment with her today!

One of my constant phrases these days is give TLC student massage a try if you live in Austin or sorta close by. I live 2 counties away. So far no opportunity to suggest doing your courses to someone but not out of the question... Love n hugs.

great massages for half the price! always appointments available!

I was honored to attend this school from March 2017-2018 and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the faculty, instructors and classmates! If you find yourself seeking a massage therapy school, Lauterstein-Conway is hands down the BEST! And! a great reputation when applying for jobs post school.

Andrew

What a great experience! After looking for a place to get a massage I stumbled onto this school. When I saw the price of $40/hr I decided it was at least worth a shot. I was completely impressed by the massage I received! The student was very professional and clearly knew what she was doing well beyond my expectations. It was as good or better than other massages I've received from licensed professionals. Can't say enough good things about this place; I will definitely be back!

A Rich

This was a very calming experience. The therapists-in-training listened to our specific needs and made appropriate adjustments. The massage was FANTASTIC! Will definitely be back.

Graduated in 2017 and massage has changed my life. This school was a very nurturing place to learn and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a career in massage therapy. I’ve never had to look hard for a job, I’ve always gotten good reviews from clients, repeat clients and a wonderful feeling that comes from helping others feel better.

Tasha Miller

Such a good way to get much needed muscle relaxation on a budget while also helping future therapists practice their techniques

The staff at the Lauterstein-Conway Massage School are caring, professional and very responsive during every interaction I've had with them. The massage therapists are outstanding, thoughtful, and well-trained; they deliver amazing therapeutic and relaxing care. They have my unqualified, highest recommendation.

Chunyin Wu

They NEVER answer phones. I literally made MORE than 30 phone calls to book a massage appointment, yet received ZERO answer. Tried online booking that shows available (the time that’s not crossed out) and got declined multiple times, so I give them a call to figure out why I keep getting declined and see what I can do to book an appointment, and of course they will not answer phones. If this happens a few times, I’ll think they are too busy, but if this happens ALL THE TIME, it seems like they really don’t care.

Went for a massage couple of times so far. Both of my massages were amazing. I'm here for another right now

I attended the full-time 6 month 500-hour program. This school made an exquisite impression on me before I even walked in- through the internet reception I researched. I moved to Austin from Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend this school! The first person I got to meet and take a tour of the school with was David Lauterstein himself! I felt fortunate to really see the vision of the school through his presence. Alex Sellers (admissions) is so helpful and friendly- always willing to work with you. Heck, that describes pretty much the entire administration at this institution! I was enriched with scientific information, wisdom from seasoned therapists (Cris McCarthy and Jane Murray were the perfect dyanmic duo of instructors), and an incredible set of classmates. Internship gave me the experience I needed to walk into the massage community with confidence and openness to expand. This experience filled me with such crucial wisdom about life, how to take care of myself, and how to use that to assist others in their own healing. TLC is continually progressive, always willing to improve and learn by trying new things. They care about the student experience, because that affects the client experience. Check it out! Come get a massage and take a tour.

A blessing to my life. I love Lauterstein-Conway massage school.

I absolutely love coming to The Lauterstein-Conway Massage Clinic. Everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. The massage students do an excellent job and make me feel so relaxed. I recommend this place all the time! Keep up the great work :)

I was a part of the September class of 16 and it has really changed me for the better. The way classes are taught incorporate every type of learning: Lecture, book, Q&A and hands on. I did not do well in a typical classroom environment due to being limited in auditory and visual learning, but being able to be hands on and ask what what I am feeling rather than memorizing what's in a book made all the difference to me. The instructors were all amazing and patient and my class felt like another family. If you're interested in learning massage, this is an incredible place.

Michael Meeks

I attended a semester here a few years ago. Great school and awesome Teachers, it’s just a shame that they had a very rude and unprofessional front desk receptionist. Some nights on break I would go into to the front and attempt to purchase oils and other items needed for class and the receptionist would be packing up to leave with 30 minutes left until the actual closing time. The first few times I let it go, since I was new and didn’t want to butt heads. After a few weeks of attending and it still was happening I confronted her and she became very hostile. I called the next day to speak to someone about her, she answered the phone... I asked to speak to one of the Deans, and she recognized my voice and immediately treated me like trash. She put me on hold and a few minutes later she hung up on me. I went into class that same day and attempted to speak to one of the Deans in person and she denied me again. A few days later after one of my classes had ended, my teacher handed out surveys. I filled it out and described in detail my unpleasant experience with the receptionist, signed my name and turned it in. The next day the teacher made some comments about the surveys, then in particular noted that they were very pleased with the receptionist they had because she was a “tough character “ and that they liked her handling the phones and front desk because she knew martial arts and could physically BEAT up anyone who caused problems... I TOOK THIS AS A THREAT AND I LEFT, NEVER TO RETURN.

Monica Marler

Awesome, knowledgable, and dedicated staff. The programs and classes are top quality.

I studied at Lauterstein-Conway from 1989-1991 and participated in workshops there many times for the next 20 years. The faculty was and continues to be first-rate. I’m grateful that my bodywork education began there because they created a foundation for my life and work that I hope to continue until I draw my last breath. David Lauterstein is a rock star in the Massage world. He was a fantastic teacher and inspired me and other practitioners I know to explore the profession with creativity, curiosity, intelligence, and care. Because of the example he, John Conway, Janet Abbott, and Michael Stanborough (who introduced me to Structural Integration, which I currently practice full time) set for me at the school so long ago, I enjoy a career that is truly and continually satisfying.

Sara Williams

Haven't had a bag massage here yet! Great therapists and a great price.

I knew Massage Therapy will be a great career change for me because of the freedom and the rewarding profession wherein I become a part of someone's wellbeing. And I found this from Lauterstein-Conway Massage School. My first day in the school, I was like a baby who does not know anything about massage, pronounciations and spellings of latin words of muscles names. Gosh, being not a native English speaker, it was hard for me. But, I was determined to finish the program plus with all the solid supports from TLC staffs, supportive teachers like Cristel, Ashley, Tammie, Claire, Mark and Dave Lauterstein, everything became easier to handle. The program and school policy will mold and shape the student therapists of how to become a great professional therapists, and will be ready as soon as they finish the program. I am so proud of myself that I made a wise decision of choosing TLC as the source of all the tools that I need to become a great therapist in the future. March 2017 students who took the MBLEX so far, all passed and that is AWESOME..... I am very proud to be called Lauterstein-Conway Massage School product and blessed to have found this school. Thank you TLC for molding and shaping me as one of the best massage therapists.

Carole Osborne

For over three decades, I have had nothing but stellar experiences at TLC. From the owners down through the instructors and administrative staff, everyone is caring, capable and consistently professional and visionary in both the overarching and day-to-day details of running the school. Classrooms, clinic, equipment and other student and faculty facilities are spacious, orderly, calming, informative and accessible to all. Graduates of TLC who I have encountered have the highest levels of scientific preparation without sacrificing the equally as potent artistic and philosophic aspects of the touch therapies. Their ethics are unquestionable, and they have satisfying work in a variety of settings from private practice to medical affiliations. I wholeheartedly believe that learning at TLC will fully prepare you for a successful, meaningful career in therapeutic massage and bodywork. Carole

Love love love this school! Studying at and graduating from Lauterstein-Conway has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself. The learning environment here is so supportive and understanding, the staff genuinely want you to succeed and be the best therapist you can be. I gained the knowledge and skills for a truly satisfying career and had opportunities for employment right out of the gate.

Great friendly and knowledgable staff and students. great prices for massages. the teachers are wonderful. Great location too!

Alex Sellers

I have been working at The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School and Clinic since October 2017 and I can honestly say this is the most genuine and holistically healthy environment I've ever been a part of. The students and staff are so welcoming and supportive, I always leave the office with a smile on my face.

I was unable to even get my massage. I arrived late (and I understand the late policy) due to bad directions on Google and therefore getting lost (I called them for directions and to assure them that I was still on my way). This would have been my first appointment. I understood that my arriving late because of this issue would mean I would have to reschedule, but then I was asked to pay a late fee of $40 (the full massage payment) and not receive any services. I want to respect the time of the therapists as much as the next person, but as a first time customer who got lost because of bad directions on Google, this seems like an unprofessional way to treat people. I chose not to reschedule and don't think I will be coming back.

Sarah Schoonover

As a graduate of Lauterstein-Conway I am not exaggerating when I say this school was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's not the cheapest or the easiest program in Texas for one simple reason, it's the BEST. The tuition isn't even that much more than at the scary strip mall schools I looked at,especially when you take into account the fact that I got hired -twice- in the first week of job hunting (I had to turn one down). And I knew students in my graduating class who had jobs lined up and waiting by graduation. Having Lauterstein-Conway on a resume definitely opens doors. The teachers are very supportive and genuinely interested in helping us succeed (and I use present tense because they still care about you even after you graduate and I sometimes go back just to say 'Hi') My instructors found the perfect combination of traditional education and personal inspiration. I'm grateful every day that I didn't go anywhere else and I can't wait to go back for continuing education classes!

TLC has provided me with an AMAZING career! They gave me the tools and education that I need to go out and be the best MT I can be! Their advanced program, after the 500 hour course, is a MUST if you want to stand out and provide your clients with an memorable experience. They keep providing me with top of the line education. I just finished the MLD class and once again, AMAZING!! Thanks for everything TLC! Keep up the great work.

Amazing place to find an excellent education in massage therapy or to receive massage!

Sarah Ziegler

One of the best schools in the country! I attended and was licensed in 2016 and have been working as a TA since then because the quality of the environment and educational content are superb. Every time I walk in I am able to refine my massage practice and my holistic being. Good people with integrity.

I've had the opportunity to visit and work with numerous massage schools across the United States, and the Lauterstein-Conway school is one of the very best massage schools in the entire country. Their high-quality curriculum is thorough and well-designed, and unlike some of the more corporate schools, they truly care about their students and go the extra mile to make sure that they receive the best educational experience possible. I highly recommend this school.

I attended TLC almost 30 years ago. I can say to this day my experience was stellar. The instruction was top notch and prepared me very well to continue on a few years years later to get my Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I have been working full time in the healing arts ever since. It was a natural progression to specialize mainly in Sports Medicine Acupuncture mainly due to the wonderful grounding in musculoskeletal anatomy which TLC requires of its graduates. They also went above and beyond in teaching ethics and patient interaction which are both so vitally important to building and maintaining a practice where patient encounters involve fairly intimate intake protocols and patient contact. The education I received there has served me very well over the years and I attribute much of my success in the field to their approach to teaching and curriculum.

Aurora Uhlmeyer

I received a top education that prepared me for dream career in massage therapy. I’m so thankful for the caring folks of TLC.

Im surprised this place has high ratings. Im not trying to be a downer on the school itself here but clearly no one has tried to call the place, though I gave up about a week ago in trying. I have tried to call the place twice a day every day at different times each day except for the weekends for the past month and a half and not once have I gotten an answer when Im trying to get some important questions answered regarding their CEU. I left a message a few times before and havent even received an attempt of a call back. Either these guys like to ignore their phone lines or dont know how to operate a phone line if their life depended on it. I hate to leave a bad review and next to never do so but this is ridiculous. Theres no point in having phone lines if you havent the capacity to operate them. Save yourself some money.

It is my privilege and honor to write a review for this prestigious institution as well as for David Lauterstein and John Conway. Not only is the Lauterstein-Conway Massage School one of the premiere massage schools in the country, but they also have a time-tested faculty, and a well organized and varied continuing education program. Massage therapists will be well served to attend their many continuing education offerings. Individuals in the Texas area should review their well rounded education to become a massage therapist. Also, David Lauterstein is one of the most well known educators in the country. His expertise, background, musical prowess, and heart are present in every class he teaches.

I attended Lauterstein Conway about 4 years ago and can say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I never thought I would make a career out of being a massage therapist but after experiencing an education with some of the best teachers and staff while being in a safe, nurturing atmosphere my mind altered. I highly recommend this school if you’re even slightly contemplating being an LMT or even wanting to receiving a super affordable massage. You won’t regret it! You’ll meet some of the most selfless, caring, real people and maybe life long friends. I know I have.

Student success is of paramount importance, and the instructors draw upon years of experience to offer training across the spectrum of massage modalities; graduates are ready to practice massage therapy and clinical bodywork at the highest level. I arranged a massage while in Austin. It was great! My student therapist, Maia, was terrific! She checked in with me and was respectful and listened to my requests. I noted the therapist in the next section was doing the same. The environment was conducive to relaxation with cello music, a great choice. Thank you! A must stop when in Austin!

STUDENT BEWARE: If you are considering this school for your massage education be prepared to deal with the financing company and the school not being able to get their billing correct. You'll be getting multiple bills within a month with different amounts. IMPORTANT: You must pay your tuition on time or they will hold your transcript until you have paid in full. My advice is to avoid this business altogether.

Margarita Navarrete-Hutchinson

The student clinic has very skilled interns, ready to put the excellent training TLC provides them, to use. I have been a massage therapist for over a decade & a half; I greatly appreciate the therapists that TLC school puts out into the world. If you are already an MT, consider the Advanced Program; it is career changing (and extending).

I'm 5'4". Why is that relative you ask? It's because I went into Lauterstein-Conway at 5' 3 1/2"! My massage was probably the most thorough I have experienced! I have been having muscle spasms in my lower back and left glut and I knew I was extremely tight but I didn't know how bad it was until the student started massaging my legs. At one time I could have sworn she was massaging bone, my muscles were that tight. But when it was all said and done I felt so much better. So much so that I was going to book an appointment for later this month but when I found out that my therapist (Jen) was graduating and last week would be her last I booked an appointment with her. She's that good! I have to think that others had similar sessions because at the end our time I heard the woman in the area next to me (each area is curtained off for privacy) saying "yep, yep, yep." My only criticism (and it's not enough to warrant questioning) is the music. Yes it was quiet and somewhat soothing but it wasn't the "relaxation" music that I am used to and prefer. Heartily recommend for an incredible massage at a great price!

I completed the Lauterstein-Conway Massage School's basic 500-hour program for licensure as well as its 250-hour advanced program. The former prepared me to work in spas, and the latter prepared me to offer more advanced services in my private practice. The instructors are all highly experienced massage therapists who are dedicated to teaching the skills needed to succeed, and many offer continuing education classes in the areas of their experience. I have always been proud that I went to TLC and feel like I've made friends for life with many of my teachers and classmates.

The Lauterstein-Conway School trains outstanding massage therapists. It's not enough to just train someone to give a decent massage. Instead, TLC trains MTs for career success and longevity. They provide skilled instruction in body mechanics, good hand contact, palpation, and open-heartedness, so that MTs can do meaningful work for years while staying healthy, without injuring themselves or burning out. TLC is run by practicing massage therapists, and it shows. Other schools may offer shorter, superficial programs, but the depth of experience of TLC's owners and teachers sets them apart. Some of the nicest people, too! TLC produces strong, solid, skilled graduates, capable of helping others in a wide variety of settings. This is an amazing school.

Such a great experience! I can not say enough about this school. The atmosphere was fun yet professional and the material was taught in a way that was exciting. So much support and guidance from the teachers and staff, shout out to Tila for always being available when I needed someone to discuss my future. To anyone thinking about pursuing a career in massage therapy this is the school you want to attend!

Lauterstein-Conway has an amazing group of teachers and administrators who give students the opportunity to learn. The curriculum is comprehensive and definitely gives students the tools they need to start a massage therapy career as soon as they graduate. The internship clinic at the school is the best deal in town for a massage, the students give great massages and for $35 with no tipping allowed, you can't do better. Give it a try

Lauterstein and Conway provided me a strong foundation in massage while changing my life. The teachers and staff were always supportive and the bond I formed with my classmates was truly one of a kind. Definitely a very memorable chapter of my life ❤️

monique munro

I was unable to find the location due to bad directions provided by google maps. I let the front desk know who told me they never heard that before. I expressed that made me uncomfortable, and dismissed as this is supposed to be a place of healing and I want to feel supported as I am about to be exposed and have someone I dont know work on my body. I was told to keep it professional and not make things so personal. Which does not make sense, as someone working on my body is very personal. I do not reccommend this place. They are not respectful nor do they take their craft seriously.

Knowledgable, caring and thoughtful staff. Great place to get a massage for a discounted price. These students are doing something they truly love and it shows. Very clean environment! It is not a Spa, and yet, they manage to make you feel great (the play list is very relaxing)

David Lauterstein and John Conway are insightful and caring leaders in this community who have created and sustained an incredible program in a nourishing learning environment for decades. I first attended TLC in 1998, after receiving certification through another program in 1997 and working in the field for a year. I knew I needed better tools and a stronger foundation in order to thrive in this profession while meeting the diverse needs of my clients, and I found those tools and strengthened my foundation at The Lauterstein-Conway School of Massage. Beyond meeting those initial needs, I also found a true community which has served me throughout my career, ongoing mentoring, expert teachers, and lifelong friendships. In the years since my first training, I also attended the Advanced Clinical Training and several other workshops, and was fortunate to assist in teaching both regular classes and specialty workshops. The workshops and courses offered at TLC are relevant and inspired. The staff is knowledgeable and caring, the program is rich and always evolving, and the experiences supported in this deep learning environment serve graduates professionally and personally, for life. I highly recommend The Lauterstein-Conway School of Massage, and am grateful for the various ways TLC has supported my career and professional development over the past 20 years.
