REVIEWS OF Ridge Athletic Clubs IN Montana

Love love love the Ridge. It is, by far, the best Gym I have ever been a member of. I really think the only thing it is lacking is Hot Yoga. Other than that, it has everything, a stellar staff and awesome instructors, what looks like a truly amazing kids zone, wonderful classes, a clean and inviting environment, a pool, sauna, tons of high end equipment, and so much more. Even when it is busy, there is still plenty of room for everyone.

Not a bad place. Clean with enough equipment to go around, but the soap smells like hamburger. Edit: As of August 29, 2016, the soap no longer smells of hamburger!

Great staff, family friendly, and super helpful. I'm not sure what the other reviewers were complaining about with the locks, as they offer both locks or you can bring your own lock for the day. They are also one of the few places in town that have Racquetball and basketball courts as well as Circuit training and a pool. Not to mention on-site child care. Every time I've approached a staff member about something that might not be not up to par, they have usually resolved it within a reasonable amount of time.

Great staff, great facility, best in the area and has been for years!

We are currently members here. The staff is extremely friendly. They have everything you could desire if you just want your basic fitness needs met! As far as the patrons go, this isn't a hardcore classic gym. It is basically an LA Fitness with a better weight room. The crowd is definitely one of those "I just want to be lean and toned" kind of crowds. The weight room has come a long way since the early 2000's. I think the owner and management are gradually modernizing the weight area. They are definitely headed in the right direction but they are not there yet. If you are into power lifting or strongman you will have some needs met but it won't be ideal. They do not allow chalk. The bumper plate selection is limited (only two sets of 45's). They have one great squat rack and two average ones. The two shock absorbing platforms are wonderful for deadlift...but there are only two. Worst feature of their weight room is the hex plates. These plates do not stack well on the bar. They can spin and slightly move the bar away from you when you deadlift. The risk can be mitigated if you slow down your lift and reset every rep. In addition you can mix bumpers with 35lb hex plates that do not touch the ground, but it is still not ideal. Slight movement is still inevitable. They have some round 100lb plates on the leg press but they are very wide and take up a lot of space on the bar. There is no strongman equipment here. Sled and prowlers might be located away from the weight room but they are reserved for the crossfiteers. Don't even ask about logs or atlas stones they will look at you like an alien. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had a glute/ham machine. I was saddened when I realized most the patrons use the glute/ham for ab exercises but at least they have one! If you are a bodybuilder they have plenty of free motion machines and free weights. However in that area, the dumbbells don't go beyond 120lbs. Also the hoist machines are not great at all. The hoist equipment has an odd weight chart that coincides with very random weight conversions in lbs. The hoist leg press has an extra large platform and is at an extra exaggerated angle. If you are used to heel only pressing it won't work well on this. Your range of motion will be limited. They have an alternative leg press that is completely flat but it isn't the best. If you are a crossfiteer, I am not a good source. That area is exclusively reserved for "the tribe." So you will want to talk to a "tribe member." They have ropes up stairs. If you are an endurance athlete the cardio equipment is great. They have a vast selection. There are multiple treadmills, stair steppers, row machines, bikes, they even have an arm bike! It is apparent that they have invested heavily in that area of the gym. If you prefer a traditional track hang tight! They are building one. The pool is shorter than standard short course length. I estimate it is 19.5 yards in length or shorter? All I know is it is not the standard 25 yards in length. Overall, I still think this is one of the better gyms in Bozeman. Like I mentioned earlier, they have come a long way. Locally I have not found another gym that can compete with them on every level. Nationally they are still behind a lot of places you can find in most American cities.

I've only used the Fallon facility. I'm happy with the equipment, the trainers, and the other members. When I've asked other members for a spot they've always been happy to say yes. My biggest complaint is the wifi is far too limited to allow streaming video. Being able to watch what I want on demand would sure make that cardio time a lot better.

Chase Sick

Unpleasant staff. Overrated and costly place.

Member since 2010. This is the best gym at which I have ever been a member. There are ever changing machines (with entertainment centers). A large volume of machines - always can find access. Free weights and machines of many styles. My only complaint is that there are fewer free classes available if you work 8-5.

Great Gym!!

My family and I really like being members of this place. We've only been members for a few months, but the staff has been very welcoming. The environment is family friendly, and most of the members are too (which is rare). The price is a little steep for the Gallatin Valley I think, but it's hard to put a price on a clean pool for young kids in a town that so ski-centric (we're not skiers). Also, the trainers are great. Not condescending or ridiculous. They really helped us out in setting up manageable and attainable fitness plans that were based on our goals.

Ive been a member for many years and it has been getting so crowded. As the club ads more members they hardly ad more classes or extended business hours. Ive seen staff walk through the bathroom and check themselves in the mirror then leave neglecting empty papertowel dispensers, overflowing trash and garbage on the ground. I still like to go here because they do have everything and a beautiful view upstairs but need to expand with the number of members.

A lot of variety.

If it weren't the only place to go in bozeman that i could play basketball at i would not be a member. ... even at that the court isn't the best ... the child care closes to early. .. the gym period closes to early. .. no accommodation to alternate lifestyle ... example the gym hours. .. other gym members are extremely intitled and rude. ..

Really great gym with lots of amenities!

I have enjoyed my experience so far. It's really clean, and the staff are friendly. I had Y membership in another town and I had no idea a gym could be this clean/updated etc. Love the spa, too.

Patricia Simmons

I love the classes and the facility!

Hillary Owl

This is the 1st gym (other than rock climbing gyms) that I've been a member of. Honestly, they're no more expensive than other gyms around, depending on what you want it for. I wanted to go to classes and I can only do that in the morning. If I just make it twice a week, that's about $10 per class. Not bad! All the instructors are fantastic, staff are super friendly, and the facilities are super clean.

If you like a combination of stuck up employees harassing you and neglegent management, worn out/crowded equipment... go for it.

I enjoy my membership here, but can we turn off the Fox news in the main cardio room so I don't barf while I'm on the treadmill?

Sam Evans

I spent quite a while navigating the chronically crowded parking lot here. Fair warning, don't swim in the pool. And if you go to stop your membership, they're going to bill you for over another month. I should have read the fine print.

I paid for a year in advance membership for my disabled son. When his doctor put him on a med that increased his risk of heart attack and ordered him to stop going to the gym, they would not refund or pause his membership until his meds stabilzed (took 10 months). The Ridge just kept the money and billed him for another year when the first elasped. They only care about getting you locked into membership.

Jon Robinson

Had a billing/membership issue that took a little more effort to resolve than I had wanted. They met me in the middle on the issue and it was resolved. I wish I had a better experience with them but “not all gyms are for everyone.” Besides the billing issues it was a fun place to workout.

Mike Moxi

The 1 star negative reviews of this gym are the most accurate. Their lifting equipment is average, cleanliness is well below average, everyone is stuck up, its overcrowded, and WAY too expensive in every aspect. The status thing is nonexistent now because there is now clear choices to make over the Ridge. This isn't an opinion, this is just the facts.

If, as the Ridge TV ad says, “Bozeman is a magnet for quality”, the Ridge really misses the mark. Safety, hygiene, and maintenance are lacking bigtime. In the locker room expect: used wet towels on the floor and benches; grungy, gray, frayed towels that you wouldn’t use on your dog; wet slippery floors in the restrooms; broken and empty soap dispensers; broken shower fixtures; cramped lockers made worse by cramped changing areas. In the pool area expect: no staff supervision of kids; kids in the "therapy" pool (kids jumping on you, toys being thrown, cannonballs, swim races; kids in the hot tub; babies in swim diapers in the warm therapy pool (ick!). If you ask for staff to intervene, they tell you to address it with the offending members yourself or they tell you that the kids have a right to be in the therapy pool. Management is the problem, pure & simple. The potential fixes would be easy to do (example: no kids in the therapy pool, towel bins in the locker rooms, staff walk-throughs for cleanliness checks, etc.). It's too bad because the facility, other than the pool area and the locker rooms is decent.

Margaret Armstrong

The Ridge has great facilities for whatever you feel like on any given day whether it's a class, a swim, my own workout, some yoga stretching or a visit to the steam room!!!! Love the diversity of classes!

Awful, awful, awful gym! Be aware of the policies/fees that are in the contract you are signing! I cancelled my membership via email (like they told me to) and they never got back to me. I settled up my bill and thought I was all set then I get another bill from them and so I call explaining I haven't been in for 3 months and I won't be paying the bill ($50). They send me another email stating I need to clear my balance before they can cancel.. what?!! I cancelled a month ago like you told me to and settled out my bill and you never responded back to me! I will NEVER be going back to this gym. This is a joke and this business is going to fail if they don't start working on their customer service. So upset.

My husband and I joined a year ago and have enjoyed our membership so far. The slightly ritzy environment and overwhelming workout options were intimidating at first, but now I that I am aquainted with the place, I feel quite comfortable there. We often come during the middle of the day or weekend evenings, and are able to avoid the bigger crowds. I've run into a handful of fitness snobs, and one rude/pointless employee, but most people are kind and just trying to get exercise and have some fun. The membership fee is on the higher end, but it's a higher end facility. I love everything they have to offer and plan on adding our teenage kids to our membership this spring.

Everdawn Charles

Our whole family loves this place. They go above and beyond to meet and exceed your needs and requests. This club is for everyone, it’s clean, always updated and fun to be apart of. They have done an excellent job of creating a community. We have been members since 2010.

Megan Coburn

I love coming here for so many reasons. However, athletic clubs are a highly personal thing - I would strongly reccomend test driving before locking into a contracted membership. Having been recently remodeled, the club has a much more welcoming feel. The schedules of classes available are generous and varied. My boys love swimming here, especially in the winter. I especially love the family changing rooms - they make all the difference. The gym equipment is always very clean, and while the place is never really deserted, I rarely have to wait very long for the machine I want or a space to stretch. Overall, a lovely facility.

Stephanie Brown

State-of-the-art facility. People are friendly and helpful. Classes for every fitness level, focused on fun.

Twice as expensive as every other gym in town, fees and policies that they don't verbally disclose when you sign up. Then when you go to cancel, they smuggly point out the fine print on the membership policy and inform you, you will have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to cancel, or you can find some other sucker and pass along the hassle of membership to them for a small fee of 75.00! Want to use your credit card to pay membership because you earn points using it? They got a fee for that! Credit card canceled due to identity theft and they try to charge it? They got a fee for that! Want to use just the downtown facility to save money? No problem, they will charge you $10 less than if you were to use both facilities, then with the $5 credit card processing fee you're paying just $5 less than if you had access to both gyms! This gym acts like every other large corporation and bank in America, sucking the money out of honest hard working peoples pockets simply cause they create the legal environment so they can, nevermind whether it is right. I am going to happily go back to my old gym when my membership expires next month! There I will pay half the price, with no ridiculous initiation fees, no credit card processing fees, and NO HASSLE! Why people go here is beyond me, I can only assume it is a status thing...

Theses guys are WAY over priced! $20 for a day pass!!!?? Are you kiding me?? No matter what time of day, $20! And their membership rates don't get much better. Nice facility but not worth the price. There's other gyms around Bozeman with just as good of equipment and less than 1/2 the price.

Laura Stanley

Great workout home for adults and a great place to let your kids go for care while you workout!

Keith Smith

Definitely one of the bigger and better equipped facilities in Bozeman. Can be crowded and fees are high. They're charging me for an extra month of membership after I leave the state which I won't be able to use. If money isn't an object they're decent, otherwise you'll be better off checking out some of the other options in town.

M SherKenney

I have been a member of The Ridge for 6+ years. It is a wonderful place: the trainer's are helpful, accessable, anb competent, the atmosphere is fun, healthy, and not competitive. The variety of fitness options provide something for every type of person. Thanks.

Marcos Zelver

Awesome friendly and well staffed

Douglas Fir

The gym is beautiful. But the membership is predatory. Erica is very nice, if you are dealing with a membership team member. The parking is not ideal, but the gym is very nice and they are building a large expansion. Classes and instructors have been wonderful. Edit: Darryl took care of our issue promptly. Very good customer service.

this place is amazing daycare, tanning, salt water pool, eucalyptus steam room, sauna basketball court, two stories of machines from elliptical running to weights, classes daily, with a second gym downtown there's just no way to beat this gym!
