This is a two-part review as I visited Massage Bar Harbor twice in a span of five days.
Visit #1: I just got back from a deep tissue massage and a little bit of acupuncture. I think you need to know the back story. I've been suffering for the past six days with excruciating lower back pain triggered by installing heavy cast iron drain pipe in a new house job here in Bar Harbor. I'm installing all the plumbing, radiant heat, and electric in a new home for my daughter, her husband, and our one-month-old granddaughter.
The pain was so bad I could barely stand up straight. My daughter insisted that I get treatment and made an appointment. Ms. Jen Macri, a highly skilled and trained professional, was assigned to me and it was the answer to my prayers.
I tried to suck it up and hide the pain as I walked across the convenient parking lot in the rear of the building. Jen greeted me just after I entered and immediately saw I was suffering. She asked if I felt I could go up a simple flight of stairs to the treatment room. I indicated I could.
Fast forward to 90 minutes later. It's as if I was dipped in magic waters. Jen had a great sense of humor, discovered all sorts of trouble spots in my shoulders, my hands, as well as my back. Her deep massage technique coupled with a few acupuncture needles to release bound-up muscles did the trick.
Here it is just three hours later and as each minute passes I feel better and better. I can walk with no pain. My daughter and here husband are marveling at how much better I feel.
I'm going to go back next week to do some follow-up acupuncture. You're going to love everything about your visit to this hidden treasure. I can't wait to hear your review about Ms. Macri.
Visit #2: I did my follow-up acupuncture treatment yesterday with Ms. Jen Macri. It was a bucket-list item and I really was looking forward to it.
The previous massage and minor acupuncture had transformed me and I was interested to see what would happen.
The treatment started out with a short follow-up deep massage to see if certain pesky muscles were still loose. For the most part they were, but realize I had been working my butt off putting up radiant floor heat-transfer plates the three previous days in quite awkward positions.
When Jen started the acupuncture, once again I felt no pain from the needles. There were a few needles that I felt at first, but I wouldn't describe it as pain. Think more like a hungry mosquito. I was so relaxed that I didn't even know Jen was adding more of the pain-relieving needles. Jen put in 20+ needles!
The entire process was extremely comforting and it was over before I knew it. I even fell asleep for about ten minutes.
As I was leaving, Jen said I might feel far better the following morning than I did as I was walking out the door. Jen warned me about overdoing it the next day.
She was right. I felt SO GOOD the day after that I was able to keep up putting up heat transfer plates with my 35-year-old son-in-law. In fact, he told me I was wearing him out! Jen was right. I felt fabulous!
I failed to head Jen's warning and I overdid it. I was so tired at 2:30 I could barely walk up the steps at home. I wasn't hurting, I was just TIRED. After an epsom-salt bath and a nap, I felt like I could work another eight hours.
Bottom Line: If you've not done acupuncture because of some fear of pain, get over it. It's PAINLESS and you're going to feel like a new person!
Jen was nice enough to give me a small bottle of oil to help keep the great experience moving forward until my next visit.
I challenge you to book a session with Jen.
I know you're going to feel fantastic like I did.
