My "Go to" place before heading up Highway 80 north to the South Toe River... Fast Food restaurants, clothing stores, building supplies store, Big Lots and a Food Lion to pick up those groceries you need before you make it to your campsite or cabin. By the way...there is no longer a Walmart at this location...it has moved to Spruce Pine, North Carolina.

Looking better at the square! Hopefully with more shops coming in the traffic will pick up and things will thrive again. It is always sad when business close or move to another location and leave empty spaces. There seemed to be more traffic and people shopping this week.

SUPER friendly staff, very willing to assist with anything. They go the extra mile honestly. Always smiling happy attitudes. Returns are NO HASSELS, and that's true! Walmart hassels you, not these guys! If it isn't working as YOU needed it to, they will GLADLY replace or refund you. They also will go out of they're way to find you coupons for your purchase, even using they're own cell phones, lol. This place is superior compared to Lowe's, as far as customer service and ease of purchasing, returning and/or just looking around for the BEST price!

I went to Fred's, which is a good little store sort of like a Walmart without the capacity for the amount of different items they have. I like most of their brand items. They have toilet paper and paper towels which is what I was going for. They also have clothes, toys, food, dog stuff, some cheap furniture, rugs, and more. I come more than once every month. There isn't too many on staff at the same time so if you need help you may have to wait a little bit. There is also a Aaron's rental, and a medical supply store, HnR block. Gogrocery is there which is a discount grocery store. Some good deals just watch for the expiration date.

I worked at Wendys when there was just a 2 lane road out there and just them and strawberry fields, not even the bypass existed. Then came the bypass, then Wal-Mart, then McDonald's. Before you knew it all of that was there. Then Wal mart decided to move to the opposite side of town. Next to the interstate and this became a ghost town. They are slowly coming back and I hope we get the movie place they rumored to put out here. If they do that. Then this whole place will spring back up and maybe it will be like the movies/pizza hut/ Hardees and roses was in the 80's they are trying though.
