REVIEWS OF Charlestowne Mall IN Illinois

Matt Hoelting

The mall is basically dead. The one thing we go to is the movie theater and they built a fence by one entrance so you have to drive around the entire mall to get to it of you don't come from St Charles. It's an oddly fitting final frustration with what used to be a good mall.

Jay Kelly

It's dead, no really! It looks like a zombie apocalypse abandoned mall. I saw a parking lot full of car and saw it was the employees of Von Maur. I guess they shut down on December 1st 2017. MERRY CHRISTMAS! I got suckered.

Sweet DEE

Dead atmosphere. Movie theatre is still functioning and still brings a lot of business but that's all that's left of the once popular Charlestown mall

Jeff Gause

Great movie theater with $5 matinee.

MrDavidM60506

Movie theater first class.

Pamela Jacobazzi

Friendly staff. Enjoyed the food specials.

Rick Higgins

Movie theater is upgraded and really nice, but most of the mail is shut down. I think just Von Maur and Carson are all that's left. I don't even think these three businesses are internally accessable to each other without driving around to other sides of the mall.

R. Pilz

Not much left of the mall. VonMaur and the theaters thats it. Used to be the place to go. Times are changing, soon we won't have Brick and Mortar stores.

Brian Artwohl

It doesn't exist anymore, but was great 20 years ago

Angela Fanelli

Only good thing about this mall is the theater. Other than that it's empty except for 2 department stores, gym and mini golf.

Steve Gieser

Charlestown Mall is almost completely vacant. Once a bustling retail hub, now all the storefronts are boarded up. It’s spooky. The only thing that’s in this sprawling mall is the movie theater.

Neil Luka

It’s neat to walk around, the theater is the main reason I go. You used to be able to walk around the whole mall. However, they walled off an entire wing of the mall, and claim to be remodeling. The walled off portion of the mall still had businesses in it including a Carson’s, who knows if they’ll stay in business because of this. The long and the short of it is, it used to be a nice place to walk in winter but me and Irene will have to find another place.

Vincenzo Pasquale De Rosa

Not much to say as is now becoming a location of only a few businesses; Von Maur, Carson´s, the movie theater and Coolers Hawk. These are pretty good in their own right.

Amy Darling

This mall was my childhood and it was a great mall when I was little. I used to ride on the 2 story carousel. A few years ago I went and only a few stores were open. Saturday April 1st 2017 my boyfriend and I went and only 3 big end stores were open. The mall is depressing now and completely abandoned. It's now used as a trail just for people to exercise and walk around and go for fun if you are into abandoned places. We saw very few people taking photos and videos as it is abandoned and we did the same thing. The carousel is gone. The bathrooms don't have signs they are written on the wall and the men's bathroom you don't want to go in there it's disgusting. Everything is gone! There's nothing there. Elevators don't work and escalators some work but they are broken and eventually stop. I don't understand why it's still open if it's abandoned! So depressing and kind of creepy.

Octavia Jimenez

There is only a movie theater there and its super weird since there is no mall with any stores just an empty building. Very weird

Barbas Life

This place is abandon only one store open

ah om

I grew up with this mall and knew it in its prime. It has slowly deteriorated for a reason I don't know for years. Most of the time, however, I have only been there simply to see a movie, which has always been a good experience. It is only till recently that I have been around the mall again. It is a very strange but interesting feeling to see a place that you once knew as incredibly lively to be effectively empty. Especially at night as most of the mall is unlit. For this reason I don't recommend walking in the more ignored areas of the mall alone at night. It's a shame to see this place in such ruin but, at least according to the folks at lens crafters, the mall will have some changes made to it soon; there is some hope.

Marisol Cortez

Love the set up with the seats and the assigned seats

Meghan Hupp

Mall is no longer open

Cameron Tomaka

Great movie theater but not much of a mall.

Jen

I read some reviews about how awful and ghostownlike the mall feels but the main attraction is the movie theater. I don't choose to go to St. Charles as it is out of my way BUT this is the only reason why I make the trip. You usually have seating, just arrive early. The movie pricing isn't too high like other theaters. The sound is always good during the movies. They always have the movies we're looking for. We will continue to go back for the movie theater. The rest of the mall doesn't really attract us. The mall does offer a kid friendly play place type deal that also can be found on Groupon in case you're making it a family outing.

Jason Scuttler

this place is largely vacant, and all the sodas in the displays are super old and super gross looking but from what I can tell they're stock is fine. over it's a nice place to be alone with your thoughts, just DO NOT vape here, I got kicked out once for it.

Harold Coghlan

Cinema 18....clean and very comfortable

Benia Zouras

Dead dead dead as a mall, but great for walking laps without any crowds.

Dante Trujillo

Used to be a nice mall for shopping, eating and relaxing in its beautiful constructed aisles and shops, now is agonizing, most stores and shops are closed, only a couple survive besides the movie theater, which is the main attraction of this mall. What a shame!

Cynthia

Currently, only Von Maur is available to the public, but I absolutely love that store. Nice items, higher end store without having to travel to Oak Brook. Shoes, clothing, makeup, jewelry, even gift wrapping is offered here.

Susan Duling

Good place

Alice Edwards

Empty except for Von Maur and Cinema 18, both of which are very good, but the mall itself is vacant. No longer access to the mall area for walking.

Karen Faircloth

Good clean nice seats fair price

Pamela Brown

Classic Cinema has done excellent upgrade

Absy Absy

The place is run down and empty, but the big stores that remain are great. The theatre recently renovated, so that's a bonus.

Andrew Cool

New things are happening and the mall wont be dead for long! I look forward to the new and improved Charlestowne mall. They have already started construction so that is encouraging

Selenia M

This mall is closed, its says its in redevelopment, only the Von Maur and theater are open.

Tony Pronenko

Old and forgotten about. Used to be a great mall. Now, if it wasn't for the movie theater most people would have no reason to be there.

Caleb Hanson

I gave it a 3 because of the lack of stores currently in the mall, HOWEVER....it is incredibly cool to walk through what feels like a post-human ruin. There is still a very active, excellent priced movie theater here, an escape room business and a 4D game experience, but the rest is empty. They blocked off an entire wing to limit access but the rest is creepy, cool, mysterious, weird, wonderous. If you want to feel like the last person on the planet, give Charlestown Mall a visit.

Matt Ballweg

Any movie is enjoyable with their NEW large reclinable mechanic leather seats

Dennis J. Piron Jr.

We really enjoy this theater!

Nick Grasse

They will never destroy that beautiful fortress on the hill. Shining in its glory for all to see its magnificence.

Yisroel Brownstein

Honestly, I'm only giving it 5 stars because it's Charlestowne. And just imagine me saying it in the Boston accent. Charlestowne happens to be one of my favorite towns in the world!

Brenda Marano

Only a theater and Von Mawr is left but they are great places.

Robert Ramza

This place is dead. The parking lots are awful. Nothing in the structure

Philk345

Really cool throwback post modern architecture sadly it's now closed and it will be torn down

Kathi F

Used to be great place to walk in the winter.... And summer..now it's a ghost town..theyve closed it on the inside.booo

SRCVintage Electronics

I went here today. Most of the stores are closed which is good because I don't like loud malls. I loved the 90's atmosphere. It was also warm and toasty inside.

Benny Waters

A dying mall. Typical.

Dick Naylor

We live a mile away. We attend at least once a week. Movie Prices are great. NEW RECLINERS are fantastic with lots of leg room. Refreshment prices, like most theatres are outrageous. Staff is courteous.

Jacqueline Racines

Nice movie theater few but good stores

da Buchino

This place is a ghost town. There is one store and a movie theater. The owners need to just sell the place if they arent going to use it to its full potential!

David Jaworski

It's dead. Only one store is active in a once lively, active, happening mall.

William Muenster

Went to the movies

sean sain

Nice and low key

Rosemary Katona

I went to Classic cinemas to see a movie...rest of mall is pretty deserted. Movie theater is very nice

Gari Ruthenberg

Other than the Cinema and Von Mar it's closed.

Miguel Rivera

Is like a gosht mall. There is no stores in the mall and stinks

Chuck C

Great seats in theatre, but sound system is okay

Stephanie R

The architecture is pretty. It's a shame the mall is so empty. But it was great for a nice walk.

Brandon Sloan

Currently (1-3-2018) only anchor stores and the movie theater are open while the main mall undergoes renovation. The theater is still one of the cheapest around though.

Anne Alferos

Inexpensive movie tickets. New seating, very comfortable and cozy.

Augustus Ball

Pretty good. Well priced. Nice place inside. Clean environment.

wil degorski

Nice place to meet, unique stores, great movie theater screens.

Lex Fuentes

There's basically nothing there for the stores to offer and there's a huge section of the mall that isn't even being used. I wanted to buy some new shoes and they didn't even have a store for them.

Brad Corrigan

The mall itself is dead but it was one of my favorite malls. The reason I am giving 5 stars is because it has good parking and an amazing movie theater that I have been going to for probably like 15 years.

Mitchell Smith

Von Maur, Carson's, and Cinema 18 were the only draws inside. We were looking for a Christmas ornament kiosk and did not find one. I was amazed that a town this big could have a mall this empty. I hope I get a chance to change this review because stores come back.

Heather Kairys

Great place to see a show, love whar has been done to update the theater.

joan feigel

While the mall has seen happier days, the theater is terrific! The prices are great, food court is less expensive than most others, the seats are modern and the staff is very helpful and courteous. I like this theater!

Jerome Elwart

Not much there anymore.

AL TIU

Went to watch a movie with family and it's an awesome experience

Walt Martineau

It is being demolished

Clif Cable

This mall has two stores, LensCrafters and a movie theater. The rest of the place is empty. I have heard for years about how it is going to be better but so far it's not. It's too bad as it was a nice mall when it had stores.

Jim Judson

This place is being torn down in the near future. Like so many malls of its kind, its time has passed. I've watched it gradually faltering over the years. It is too bad, but the future is here. Also, the Charlestown theater is here, which is great!

missy baker

Great movie theater but the mall is empty.

Stanley Herzog

Von Maur one store left. QUALITY SERVICE.

Haley Goulson

Went for something to do on a rainy evening, did not realize it was almost empty. Ghost town! Von Maur is nice.

Andrew Cloninger

Disconcertingly empty, but still well kept. My hope is that the presence of the theatre is an indication that this mall still has a future.

Gwyn Zmolek

Very few stores and somewhat of a ghost town but the flagship store von maur is there and makes the visit worthwhile.

Dennis Hood

Not sure why you would rate a mall that doesn't exist, but Google is asking so.... One star for the movie theater which is excellent (see that rating separately). One star for Vaun Maur as my wife shops there and they still have a piano player. I'll consider a higher rating when there are actually other stores inside the mall. It's more like a haunted asylum right now.

Greg Rusin

Don't waste your time to go there - almost everything is closed. The place is good only for jogging

Mary Sotiroff

Had a great time at Von Maur. Three new pairs of shoes and all on sale!

Cody Cowan

I love this mall I did a Christmas Concert here when I was in 5th grade. I’m 29 now and I think this place is like empty. But in its day it was a nice mall

Sean Corkery

The mall is dead, but great movie theater

John Castro

It was a great place to shop

John Przybyla

As far as a mall goes this is no longer a mall but rather a large building that connects 2 stores & a movie theater. That said it was incredibly eerie walking through the mall & seeing EVERY store empty. It is interesting and strange to walk through a mall that use to have so much energy and be so alive and now almost serves as a reminder of what life was like before modern online shopping. I went into this mall to shop but stayed because I had never seen anything like this, it's definitely something to see.

K H

Only a few stores open. We went for the theater which appeared to be the only thing keeping this place open

Gregory Williams

Ok

Drew Rukavina

The place is a ghost town except the movie theater, miss the good ol days where it was a place to shop and hang out when i was little.

Isaiah Ly Buado

Kind of hard to rate a corpse.

Jennifer Diehl

Pretty much has become the walking mall when the weather isn't cooperating. There are a few stores, specialty places (e.g. Zumba classes) and a theater that are worth visiting. Unfortunately, the amount of stores and overall of the mall is not so great, thus the 2 stars.

Arslan Tariq

Nice theatre, comfortable recliner sofas and friendly staff.

Linda Miller

Great movie theater love the movie

Nathan Thorne

Always a fun place to hang out, especially if you want to see a movie. The theater is excellent. Kinda sad to see the rest of the place go, but times are a changing.

John Cerny

Sadly , this mall isn't what it used to be. All but Von Mauer and the movie theater remain, and I hope the renovation will revitalize the area.

S K

The movie theatre is great. Reasonably priced, free refills, and comfy reserved seating.

Justin Nihei

For years now, this place has been a ghostmall. Anchor stores are still open and there has been talk of rejuvenation, but I will believe it when I see it.

Hollz

Has the Charlestown 18 Classic Cinemas which I've been going to for forever and is one of my favorite movie theatres for the prices, free refills and the fact they butter your popcorn for you. Plus there's a really nice older man named Ken that takes your ticket and always offers the nicest greeting haha. He's wonderful and always cheers me up! Now that I've moved out of my parents' place and further away, I miss being a regular at this theatre. They've recently upgraded to comfy chairs so I'm glad it's still doing well! As for the rest of the mall, it's great if you want to feel like you're in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse or the rapture! Not so great if you want to shop, though.

Oceania Life

The mall is dead so don't go there! The only thing worthwhile is the movie theatre check that out! Cinema 18.

Amy Benes

The movie theater is great. The rest is super sad

Annette Friberg

A very nice place

Nicole M

This mall is dead. Theres literally no stores. I don't reccomend wasting your time to come here.

Sonja Bell

Many good stores, handicap accessible, public bathrooms, free parking, moderate to higher prices

Olbuford

The interior of the mall will be closing as of December 1, 2017. The interior was to be closed as of November 1st, with the only remaining access from the outside for the Classic Cinema, Von Maur, and Carson's (which have continued to do reasonably well as stand-alones), but apparently there was some reason for them to delay the closing. Charlestowne was a great "ghost mall" for walking in a climate-controlled setting out of the weather--I will miss it on that score--but it was pretty much useless as an actual mall. Still, I feel very bad for the few remaining small businesses that folded one after another in the months after the Christmas 2016 season. Lenscrafter's, H&R Block, a kid's theater group, and a baseball workout place closed in the spring, and by early June 2017 the management group had walled off the eastern section of the mall between the center court and Carson's. At that point four businesses that were still up and running (Root photographic studios, a hair salon, a daycare/tutoring place called "Shopping for Knowledge" and a nail/eyebrow threading booth) relocated to the west side of the mall near entrances for the movie theaters (and joining Power Gym and some sort of a 3-D printer design place called AVocations). However, not long after Labor Day both SFK and the hair salon had closed down, as well as one of the arcade joints on the lower level, and with the initial Nov. 1st closing announcement, so did Root Studios. I imagine the remaining places will limp on for a few weeks or will pack up their stuff and skedaddle before December 1st.

jose Galindo

Great place to shop

MimiMakeup 101

The only problem is the store lack. But amazing area!

Christine Pirraglia

Theater only, nice, clean, affordable

Frank Harazim

He went to the show and it was very nice very nicely done

Kurt Latos

If you're looking for a cool dead mall to explore, this is a great spot. If you're looking for an actual mall to shop at, it is not a great spot. I'm giving it 5 stars because I went to it with the intent of exploring what once was. I'm not sure what they plan to do with this place, but it sadly seemed to me that it hasn't got much time left. The movie theater looked really cool as well. Lots and lots of neons.

KEN JORDAN

The mall is closed but Van Mor is open

Craig Taylor

If possible, I always go to this theater. The large spaces between the plush recliners mean no one trips over you on their way to their own theater heaven. Only thing that would make this better is if there wasn't self serve popcorn butter. I hate that!

Kailey Solana

It's great if you don't want to interact with people and just walk in an air conditioned deserted mall lol. Can charge your phone in the middle of the floor with no repercussions

Sarah Burnett

Not much of a mall anymore, but the movie theater still stands strong. 10/10 would rate again.

Brian Jackson

Movie theater is great. Comfortable seats. Will go again. Wish you could access it from the mall, but you can't.

Nancy Treudt

Dead zone depressing. They need to do something with this place. Come on St Charles bring it on!

Lee Draper

The mall is closed there is 1 store still open and that’s it. Von Maur I think the store is called

matt flodstrom

Went to classic Cinemas Charlestown 18. Great theaters and good prices. Would recommend!

Haley Stoffregen

The mall has been going downhill for awhile now. At this point, there isn't much in the mall to check out beyond its movie theater, and that's not always the cleanest. It's still a decent place to see a movie, but the rest of the mall is practically a ghost town.

Anthony J. carrera

A long time dead mall with a couple department stores remaining. The only thing that gives it life is classic cinemas which BTW ! They're upgrading the seats to some really cool reclining comfortable with spacious leg room! I love them, 100% recommend them :)

Jason Woods

There's nothing in the mall anymore outside of the theater.

Von Hulio

This place is essentially a dead mall. You've got Von Maur (I believe that was how it's spelled) which is the nicest store in a mall I've ever been too but it's products are too pricey for my blood. The theater is also still there but that's all the mall has to offer. I remember the mall in its former glory before all it's stores packed their bags. Those were the days. Oh well, a victim of the ravages of time. The mall has a very nice look too it, I'd almost suggest going just to appreciate the way it was made. Almost

Carly Anderson

Most of the mall is gone, but the theater is nice.

MARRØN

Love this store

James Dietrich

Not rating the mall, but rather the theatre. Cannot beat the movie prices and the food/drink prices are good too. Great for teens who hardly make money. Staff is very kind n courteous.

Jim Schmidt

The movie theater is getting a make over and is kept up. The prices here for a matinee are insanely low. They have brand new leather recliners that are second to none with four button positioning, for even better comfort. The speakers and screens are top notch.

LJ Sand

Nothing there except starbucks I only drive thru mall to starbucks

Keith Kmiec

Cinema18 is the place to go. Hope the mall does a remodel soon. Great location but not many stores anymore. An serious makeover needed for the mall.

Michael chrabot

The Mall went under looks like awhile ago but the movie theater is still going. It looks like all the malls are going under.

James Lockard

The mall itself is a ghost town. BUT the Charlestown 18 theaters bring us to the area regularly. The choices are as broad as anyone could expect, the prices are below the market for the area, and there's a new restaurant and winery due to open at the west corner of 64 and the mall. I've particularly enjoyed afternoon double features made possible by good scheduling of the films. I gladly drive the 20 miles over attending more local theaters most of the time.

Heather G F

Like vomaur? Movie theater or Carson's. Your kind of place. Otherwise dead. I do feel okay letting my small children walk around without losing them in a crowd!

Jennifer Eitel

It's kind of empty in the mall now, but that can be a perk if you are looking for somewhere to walk indoors. The stores they do have are okay.

Carrie carelesscat@yahoo.com

There isn't much to do there. Many of the big retail stores have closed. Rumors is that the mall is planning on having high end stores, which will likely be too expensive. Von Mar is WAY too expensive and a waste of my time. They don't have much in the store that too my liking. St. Charles should tear the mall down and relocate Von Mar and the movie theater and put something else in place of the mall.

Milly Ace

I stopped at Carson's Pirie Scott, they were inattentive and rude.

kathleen robnett

Its literally a over blown theater. Went 2 x. Both times they had difficulty with electricity and technical issues. Never going again!

G Me

Sadly this mall is pretty empty. Von. Maur and the theater and carson's is barely holding it up. Hopefully the new cooper hawk can give it a boost in traffic.

Rich Singh

The mall is beautiful and huge. But the place is dead. No stores. Only a movie theater and Von Maur

Marj Clauson

Sad it's no longer open

Brian Belzey

Too expensive and there’s nothing there except dirt and darkness now. Let’s see what goes up when they tear it down.

Steven Lougheed

Awesome movie theater

ned flanders

I could live here. There’s tons of great food and everything you could ever imagine. Liposuction, rollercoasters, circus bears juggling on unicycles, massages with happy endings. We spend hours at the indoor water park. Parkings hard but they have a monorail and horse drawn buggies to take you around the gardens. Be sure to check their schedule of events for concerts and fireworks. They’re supposed to have Santa wrestling the Easter bunny over the crown from the Pharos pyramid. If you stay in the sky needle revolving motel check out the zip lines into the disco cave. We bought a duck that lays golden xboxes for a quarter. I’m joining the cult that meets there at midnight for free punch tonight.

Kathleen Bennett

Nothing there except the Classic Cinema and Von Maur

mary golda

Everything was closed inside looked like a ghost town but the movie theater was nice

Jaiden Sutaria and Associates

All of the theaters are newly renovated and have nice reclining seats. The rooms are always clean.

Andrew Bohnenkamp

They are running low on stores, but they have done shopping options.

Jose Vera

The mall is dieing, great for Tuesday night movies for $5 each, and walking around in a quite warm place. Kids area for playing. Great location and some main stores are still open.

Jemina Harris

Very quiet popcorn is great here.

Marcus Montgomery

This place is completely dead. The only sing there that is still in operation is the Charlestowne 18 theater. As far as they're concerned, it is the best place to take your family to watch a movie in the entirety of the Fox Valley area. No where else can you get free refills on soda and popcorn at any time of the day for any size you purchase, the candy they sell is reasonable as well as the individual hot dogs nachos chips snacks and treats. If you come to any show on any day of the week before 6 p.m. you will only pay $6 or 6:50 I can't remember to get in to see the show. Once inside, you will notice that every theater there has been completely updated not only with new screens and sound systems but with all new electronically reclining seats, lit runways so that you can see your way in and out in the dark on your way to get the kids more candy and popcorn. But the absolute best thing about the Charlestowne 18 theater is that all of the staff working together as a team pull off one of the best movie experiences I believe that you can have as far as the cost of taking your family out to do something together. I remember myself not even six months ago going out to Marcus Cinema and spending almost $100 for four people to see Ralph wrecks the internet and there was a point that I had to tell the kids no more popcorn or candy because it had just gotten to the point of absurdity financially and the theater was dirty along with not being able to find a staff member to even right the wrongs that calculated up in a 2 hour and 20 minute window of time. We will never again go together as a family anywhere except for the Charlestowne 18 theater in st-charles. There are no other theaters around here that can even hold a match to the service or cost of that service. Thank you to the Saint Charles Chamber of Commerce as well as the Kane County Board of directors for keeping a theater open on the east side of town even after surveys said that there was a 60-plus percent decline in patronage because of the placement of the Geneva Commons. How ironic it is that the Charlestowne Mall was responsible for closing the doors of the multi-generational piano Factory Mall as well as the Saint Charles mall and now it appears that we have come full circle and the doors of the Charlestowne Mall are being forever closed because of the superior quality invested into the department stores placed conveniently amongst an array of fast food and casual dining options. Like It is Well written cama karma is a son of a beep

Gail Brown

Love the comfy adjustable seats while I watched a movie!!

Gabriel Mahmood

There's literally nothing. But they do have a theater. Hopefully one day it becomes better

Cheryl Catalano

All the stores have closed. It's so sad.

David S

5 stars ha ha ha. , you would get the joke if you have been

Ken Przybylski

Another Mall going down Hill most likely needs way better management store's are fleeing . Great location there's a very nice Carson's and von maur and classic theatre ,Cooper winery and a very nice Jewel osco grocery store. Besides that it's a ghost town . My you can exercise by walking inside in cold weather looking at all the closed store's. It's ashame it's not like Oakbrook center. Just no vision and bad management
