I called bc my child had accidentally locked an interior door. First, they quoted $150 to get it open, then $200 once they saw a photo. As it turns out, it took a single jab with a screwdriver as I had already taken the lock apart myself. But did they go back to $150? No, of course not. But okay, I had said $200 was okay when I thought it was a difficult job. So I then asked them if they could put the lever handle back on for me and screw in some screws. They quoted $165 for the “repair.” I had to laugh out loud. Maybe they upcharge you based on the address, but I’m not a fool. Did it myself in 2 minutes. Just a few screws. Would never use this company again and shocked to see other reviews that mention “honesty.” My interaction made me miss the days of honest people who didn’t try to take advantage of you just because it’s NYC. I guess I should have known most locksmiths are a major ripoff but hoped this one was different. Nope.

With a scary emergency of a busted front door lock, Danny responded immediately with both a price and a very competent and polite repairman. Ely was at my door within half an hour. The minim for credit card purchases is $40. I find that unreasonably high. When you need a key, it's often an emergency, and it's not nice to make someone run to the ATM. The store's hours are short: not sure what time they close, because hours aren't posted online, but they don't open until 9am and are closed on weekends. Inconvenient. The floor is often cluttered, the walls contain a disorganized assortment of random tools, and it can be hard to find room to stand in the store when there's another customer. Last, the staff rarely greets customers when they enter the store. They often ignore you until you speak up, and don't actually acknowledge requests. For example, if you say, "could I get a copy of this key," they won't say "sure, that will be $2," but will just look at you blankly until you hand over your keys.

Metropolitan's duplicate keys ALWAYS fit, and I'be been using this place for 20 years. (We lose our keys.) Unlike hardware stores and other places that have a key-grinding machine but not trained guys to cut a key or maintain the machine. It's great to find a locksmith that does it right the first time.

I lost my car key and call this company. They said the can make me a new key for my car and program the chip so I can start my car. The guy showed up and tried to program his key to my car . He did something wrong and I had to tow my car to the dealer to fix it. Not calling this company again

I am a college student and got locked out of my apartment on a Saturday night and called metropolitan locksmith. they had responded quickly and had someone over in no time to get me back into my apartment. The service was amazing and you could tell they knew what they where doing. From that moment on I continued using them when it was needed and have sent them to many friends. There store may look like its a hole in the wall but it really is a gem. I feel very safe and comfortable using them and i highly recommend it to anyone who needs any sort of assistance in that area of locks etc.

NEVER GO TO THESE PEOPLE! They are only greedy for money! Though they did let us off the hook for $5, their ATTITUDE SUCKED! I am as a TENANT living in a predominant Chinese situation. I am not Chinese and though multi-lingual (as a Swiss born person myself), I know German, Japanese, French, Nederlands. However, I don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese. my landlady is 95 years of age and even her English is limited. So I contacted this locksmith and then no one wanted to pay (thinking the other was responsible). It is not MY responsibility and I tried to tell these numbskulls (YES! Locksmith) that I am on SSI and did not HAVE $125! (Otherwise I would have gladly paid them and sent them on their way and had these people in this house pay me back). The property owner (my Landlady) did not think that she had to pay. The people who got locked out of their room didn't understand the situation and this one guy, and he is my first Iranian fellow that I had a very negative experience with because of $MONEY$ as indeed I do have a close Iranian friend living in Sacramento from (Teheran).
