I intended to purchase a lock set at a big box home improvement store and have it re-keyed there. I could find no one to help me for the longest time. When I finally convinced an employee to help me, he couldn't. And there was no one in the entire store who could re-key the lock. Fast forward to Alford. It is staffed from top to bottom with accessible, helpful, knowledgeable, courteous human beings. The service was like I imagined it to be in Mayberry, if Mayberry weren't fictional.

I've been using Alford Safe & Lock for about 7 years now. My first contact with them was assistance with maintaining some original door hardware on some 100 year old houses. They are extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of locksmithing. Every other locksmith I used before seemed to be short staffed. Alford has a large staff with several trucks. Large jobs to small jobs, re-keys to lock repair, they do it all and are very friendly and helpful. Another advantage for me is that they are in the downtown area which is where my business is located, so that's also a big deal to me. I never felt comfortable going to a "big box" store for locksmith work. I even started purchasing some name brand lock sets through Alford because for just a relatively small amount more money you get a much higher quality product than at the big box stores. I like to learn things and they are always eager to explain things allowing me not to have to call them on small things that I may be able to do myself. Lastly, if you haven't been by their business, go check it out. It has been refurbished recently and looks great. You also can park right by the front door unlike walking through a huge big box parking lot. Thanks Alford for the great service over the years!!!!! A+ A+ A+!!!!

I bought an antique storage unit and the lock was not working. I called Alford Safe and Lock they gave me option of bringing the unit in ( saved a service call) or they would come to me. I brought the unit to them. They made a key to fit and repaired the original lock. I enjoyed my visit. Great people.

When the top lock on my 1950’s front door broke, I called Alford Safe and Lock, one of our long standing local businesses - the kind I prefer to patronize. An afternoon call brought next morning service. The seasoned locksmith, Jimmy H. knew his trade well. As lock parts of this vintage are irreplaceable, I am so grateful that he was able to accurately diagnose the multiple aspects of the problem, patiently try different remedies, and ultimately get both the top AND bottom locks working again. In his initial explanation of my options, (in the event that the top lock could not be repaired,) he revealed his respect for the integrity of older architecture and a reluctance to do something aesthetically incompatible with it - which I really appreciated. Based on this excellent service, I highly recommend this company and this particular locksmith.

I called and asked if they could cut a blank 2008 F150 key and how much it would cost. The man I spoke with said he could do it and it would cost $65. I said to him that the price was high and he told me (with an attitude) "why don't you can go get it cut where you bought it". The next place I called was Able Safe & Lock. They were very pleasant and said they charge $2 to cut that type of blank. I went straight over to Able Safe & Lock. If you want to get ripped-off by a jerk with an attitude, go to Alford.

I would recommend them for when you need more specialized work. At Alford the base price for a rekeyed double cylinder lock is $33. At Home Depot it's $25 or $20 if they waive the rekey fee. Same Kwikset 665 3 SCAL SCS lock. (square corner adjustable latch. don't know what SCS is.) They didn't ask me what lock color I wanted. You can't see what's going on. I found they were not methodical to get what I wanted. Prices were said orally. I prefer to be able to compare prices easily. Then, as other reviewers have said, they're not, uh, inviting. They're not mean at all, but I gave up asking the other questions I had. Similar experience the two previous times that I've gone.

Largest key selection, knowledgeable, and great customer service... The Kwikset 400 T 's at home depot or Walmart come with plastic spindles. Locks are not the place for plastic parts, and definitely not worth saving 2 dollars to buy some junk from a big box store when you have local experts around.
