I can't tell you how happy I am with Mike's Metro Lock and Safe. We thought we were going to have to tow my car to a dealer when the ignition locked up. Mike's was able to come to us, fixed up the ignition, and got my car going again, and for a substantial savings! We also had them replace one of our keys. Since the electronics still worked, it was just falling apart they were able to reshell it for less than half of a new key from the dealer. The guys were very friendly and knowledgeable, answered my questions didn't make feel dumb. I could not be more thrilled.

I called Midwest Lock and Security to have a key that I already had cut and programmed for a Nissan Versa. Whoever I talked to on the phone said it would be no problem and quoted a really good price($50 compared to the $100 the place in Ames where I live was going to charge). Well worth the drive from Ames to Des Moines and back. I made the trip today (about a week after calling) and upon arriving, was told that it wasn't possible to program my key because Nissan wouldn't allow it on some of their cars (sounded odd to me that Nissan still wouldn't allow a 2009 car to be programmed by a third party). So I made another call.... To Mike's Metro Lock & Safe. He said it would be no problem, and met me about 10 minutes later and got it done just like he said. Moral of the story... Just call Mike's Metro Lock and Safe first.

Instead of spending $500 at the dealership for 2 Audi keys I looked for 6 months and tried several options to find another source. These guys are the best shop in town. Had an issue with my ignition cylinder lock binding up and needed to get it re-keyed. Called about five other locksmiths, none of them would work on it. These guys were the only ones who would take a look at it. On Saturday I went in to get a duplicate set of keys made for my nephew's car because I had lost them while borrowing his vehicle for a week while mine had body work done. I met Mike (the owner) and he was very professional and efficient. I didn't realize that I needed to have the actual vehicle there because the key had to be matched to the vehicle with a chip. So I pre-paid for the new keys and also bought a remote lock/unlock key fob. I then told my nephew that he just needed to swing by the following week and pick up the new set. The following Monday (today) my wife found the lost set of keys in her coat pocket so I called Mike to cancel the order. He reminded me that all sales are final and I remembered seeing that sign in his shop. So I felt bummed. But we talked it through and he wound up reversing his position and agreed to give me a refund, against his own policy. I was surprised and extremely grateful, which is why I wrote this review. This business deserves all our support!!! I won't go anywhere else for my locksmith needs.

These guys are awesome! The guy who worked on my car was very nice and professional. Price was AT LEAST half what i would have paid a dealership. They came TO MY CAR (no need to have it towed!) and fixed it right there, within an hour. If you want to get your life back after loosing your keys, these guys are your best bet.

Our daughter called to tell us that she lost her key to start her car. We live in Wisconsin and she is at school in Ames IA and we were getting ready to head for vacation when she called. We called another locksmith and they were very sketchy and came back with an outrageous estimate so like most of us, we called around. The next place we called was Mike's Metro Lock and Safe. Nick at Mikes Metro Lock in Des Moines is amazing! The last person wanted to drill my lock without permission but I called Mikes Metro Lock and they were able to unlock both deadbolt and knob and rekey for only $121! They were there and done with 30 mins! I can’t say enough about this company and would recommend them to anyone!! Very safe and knows what they are doing!

Earlier this afternoon, I was just getting off a 7-hour shift at work when I discovered my keys were locked inside my car! I called Mike’s Metro Lock & Safe and Chun was immediately on his way. When he arrived, he immediately shook my hand with a big smile and introduced himself. Once he got his tools out, he made friendly conversation and not ONCE did I feel like an idiot for locking my keys in my car. I feel like this a lot with other car companies especially since I’m a girl. I was so relieved that this was not the case with Chun. I will always call them in the future! I did not get the name of the gentleman who helped me, but it was not Mike, nor Roy, nor Chun. The other guy! Brought a safe in thinking that I'd just have it picked and then have to dispose of it since they don't make the blanks for that lock any longer. 45 minutes later I walked out with the same safe with a newly built lock. He tore apart the original and just rebuilt it so it would take an in-stock key. They certainly could have just threw their hands up (like I about did) and said eh just drill it out. Having never needed a locksmith before...I know damn well who I will call the next time I do need one. Thanks, Metro Lock! And to the gentleman that ended up helping me and saving me $300+ for a new safe...I hope you have a KICK ASS weekend!!

Would not go to. I paid to have a key reprogrammed and it failed the next day. They would reprogram a new key, but I would have to pay for the service again. Essentially interested in money over customer service. Also had to wait about 20 minutes to get helped and it took them less than 10 minutes to reprogram the key.

At first, I thought they were great. Now I know better. Let us begin: my wife's 01 lexus rx300, the ignition lock cylinder was having issues. The key would insert but not turn. So i remove the cylinder and take to the shop. They say they can repair/rebuild. Great! Just what i was hoping for! Get the part in about four pm, their shop closes at six. Get a call the next morning that job is complete. Reinstall in vehicle, give it a few turns and it works great. 2 days later, i leave the state for business. Later that evening, i get a call from my wife stating that the key is now stuck in the ignition, won't turn, and won't come out. Luckily, she and our 6 week old son were at her parents,' and they lent her an extra vehicle for the evening. I told her to call the place that fixed it and see what they can do. This is where the fun begins. She explained to me that the gentleman on the phone was very rude; insinuated that she had done something to cause the issue, and insisted that she have the car towed to their shop for repairs. After some back and forth she gets them to agree to come to the car to make the repair. The technician gets the old key out, and explains that there are two wafers that are bent. He then removes these, without replacing them, and charged my wife again to fix something that I had just paid to be repaird days less than 1 week, probably less than 10 key turns, prior. Needless to say i will be using a different service in the future.

My truck chevy 2006 equinox has been broken for a while but on top of that i had to come accross the problem with my car key getting lost and not having a spare. I was advised to call Mike's Metro and within 15 minutes Chun was on my driveway. In less than an hour Chun had my two key ready plus a dpare key for my mothers jeep. It was nice to know that they work with keys that have a chip in them and at a very affordable price.

Excellent service! Got a key made for my husband and I's 03' VW Passat. Most people say you can only get a VW key from the dealer, and dealers are NOT CHEAP. These guys can do it for a VERY reasonable price, and in a decent amount of time. Programmed and everything! Highly recommend!

Called late afternoon on Saturday since no other locksmiths were available to create a duplicate for my Honda Fit. He answered the phone and said to meet him at the shop, even though they were closed. He created the key in minutes and problem solved!
