I figure while in NYC I can find any service. Not so with the few locksmiths I called in Manhattan. I needed a very important Key cut to code that had been broken. After 1/2 dozen calls to LS's in Gotham, they either wanted to replace the cylinder or were mobile tech's who aren't willing to make dupes. Disappointed, I figured i'd have to give up getting the key back. On a lark I tried a locksmith as I headed north. Larry the Locksmith saved the day. Five words, Courteous, Knowledgeable, Professional, Fast and Fair. They were able to take a destroyed master and make dupes that work. Located in charming Riverdale NY, if you need a city locksmith, I highly recommended his service. Very pleased.

An old fashioned (even though it opened about 20 years ago) neighborhood hardware store. They keep commonly needed hardware in stock, make keys, and know all about it. Sure, the Home Depot has a larger quantity, and sometimes you need that. But usually you don't, and there isn't a Home Depot around for miles anyway. What you get here is the knowledge and experience to get what you really need, and come up with an idea or solution when you don't have one. It takes the experience of a neighborhood hardware store to do that.

I was charged $85.00 plus tax ($7.54) for coming to my apartment and replacing 3 loose screws on my door lock. My mistake for not asking for a quote before the job was done. I didn't dispute the charges because I was alone in my apartment and I didn't want an argument over the bill to escalate. The technician must have left my apartment thinking that he took me for a fool, but he only fooled himself. Why? I was thinking about adding an extra lock to my door and asking Larry The Locksmith & Hardware to install it for me, but I won't be using their services in light of what happened. Edit (12/20/2018): Please note that my complain has nothing to do with the quality of service. I admit that the locksmith was very courteous, respectful and professional in his interaction with me. Furthermore, he completed the work to my satisfaction. My complaint has to do with the fact that the standard service call was $85.00 and that I wasn't properly informed about it.
