I am office manager at a medical office. Today we had an employee leave the office very angry. She did not turn in her key before she left so I felt it was necessary to change out all the locks before leaving for the day. I'd like it to be cheaper but I just realized that newer cars have these very very very expensive keys! I called Violette in the Phoenix store and she told me they had the non-electric key available in the Mesa store for just about a quarter of what it would cost to replace the one that opens the doors and everything remotely. Now I have time to save money for a duplicate for my brand new used Kia! I just feel safer having to keys and although it took a lot of research it's great to know there's a laser cutter not very far from where I live.

TL;DR Good service, abysmal workmanship. I had the ignition of my Honda Odyssey rebuilt by Acme in July 2017. Instead of properly performing the repair off-vehicle, they performed the repair in-situ and simply broke, cut, and drilled out whatever was in the way. The dealer estimated over $500 to repair the damage. -Long version below- Some time after having my ignition rebuilt I noticed I was able to remove the key from the ignition with the van in drive. It took awhile to notice because that's not something I regularly try. The repair was still within the warranty period but it wasn't worth chasing down so I let it go. Fast forward a few months and after a few near rollaway incidents I decided to get the issue fixed. Unfortunately the warranty had expired. Now normally I wouldn't complain. After all, it was my fault for letting the warranty lapse. However, what I found when repairing the ignition was so appaling that I feel I have to warn others. I got the first indicator of poor workmanship right when I got the vehicle back. There was a gap between the two halves of the steering column trim like they hadn't been clipped back together. It turns out that all of the clips on the lower piece had been broken off. No big deal, the part was cheap and easy to replace. I ordered one from Honda, installed it myself, and that was that for over a year. When I finally went to diagnose the interlock problem I noticed that the immobilizer receiver was only held in place by one screw instead of the usual two. To properly remove the immobilizer receiver, the ignition assembly must first be removed from the steering column. Honda uses breakaway bolts to secure their ignitions so removing them requires a little more work. However, it is not particularly difficult. I managed it in under half an hour despite having never done it before. I would imagine that someone with the proper tools (for example, a locksmith) could do it significantly faster. However Acme instead chose to do the repair in-situ. So after removing the one accessible screw, they simply broke the immobilizer receiver off. Honda ignitions aren't designed to be serviced. In order to replace the tumblers (which is what Acme did), the lock cylinder must be removed. The lock cylinder is held in the lock barrel by a through-hole roll pin. This is easy enough to remove. The lock barrel, on the other hand, is held in place by a roll pin in a blind hole. This makes it very difficult, though not impossible, for the average DIYer to remove. Thankfully there is a tool built specifically to remove this one roll pin. While it doesn't make sense to buy one to repair a single ignition lock since it's pretty expensive, it's a no brainer for someone who might repair a whole bunch of ignition locks (a locksmith, for example). However instead of simply removing the roll pin, Acme chose to render the lock housing incapable of retaining the lock barrel at all. They did this by drilling into the gap between the lock barrel and lock housing. As a result, the lock barrel was held in place solely by the broken immobilizer receiver. Unfortunately Honda's interlock system relies on a properly secured lock barrel so Acme's "repair" rendered it completely ineffective. Even more unfortunately, both the lock barrel and the lock housing were irreparably damaged. While the lock barrel is available from Honda as part of a recall kit, the lock housing is only available as part of a complete ignition assembly. Not only does this require you to pay over $200 for a whole bunch of unnecessary parts, it would still need to be re-keyed anyway. All told the dealer estimated over $500 to fix the damage done by Acme. Thankfully I was able to fix it myself for significantly less but it took dozens of hours of time and effort. Anyone less comfortable with tearing into their only vehicle would be out of luck.

I've always been careful where I leave my keys, unfortunately with age I've found that the thing I do best now is losing stuff. Sadly my keys are not immune to my senility or forgetfulness. I've recently gone about trying to temper this problem by making copies of my keys, but the big box stores have your most commonly used keys/locks which is fine for most of my keys but I had about four high quality locks that apparently don't move enough product to justify keeping in stock. I was referred here by an ACE hardware employee. To my surprise this store has just about every key possible (and more) the keys I needed had to practically be made by hand from some of their stock one at a time. The extra cost? none, granted the cost per key was a tad bit more than the limited ones the big box stores carry, however the cost for over a dozen keys made (all by hand and sizing) were still a fraction of the cost of one new lock. In my case, I did have to bring the locks with me so each key could be confirmed it worked, but only took 20 minutes and that was mostly the employee waiting for me to stop fooling around with all the interesting locks they have at the store for demonstration. I strongly encourage those of you to try this location out. I did not have them come to my location to do a "lock out" or unlock something for me, but I'm certain their service would be just as stellar if they did. I see there is one low rated review in regards to a programming a key for a car. I am not certain what specifically the dealer told that gentleman, but I can assure you in my case I opted to have acme do it - the dealership wanted to charge 799.99 + labor for extra keys and programming, ACME - 235 + tax for the same amount of work. I'll be having ACME take care of my lock needs from now on, I can see why they have and A+ rating with the BBB.

I contacted Acme Locksmith on a Friday at midday regarding an emergency situation. They responded immediately and we set up an appointment for Saturday morning. I inquired about their emergency pricing and was advised that Saturday services were not considered non-business hours and therefore they did not charge emergency fees. I explained our situation and not only did they fix our emergency situation but also fixed a few other lock issues we were having, all in record speed at a low price. We needed extra keys for our daughter's car and only having one coded key meant and extra programming charge. Acme was much, much closer than the nearest dealer. A locksmith is someone the average person rarely needs. Eric was very friendly and listened to my preference. In the end, it was an excellent value. A dealership would have only netted two keys (one having to be programmed with the computer and the other from other two keys) for a about the same price. Eric even programmed the extra key and fobs to make sure they worked. Something the dealership would not have done. I would not hesitate to recommend this business. Friendly knowledge people and the job done right the first time. There are many problems related to the Ford Escape and Explorer tailgate locks, as well as Mazda tribute. The Ford and independent shops fix appears to be close or at $400. The replacement solenoids have incorrect connectors and need wires spliced. These vehicles were designed for a manual key lock but is unavailable for 2001 and up models. The friendly and resourceful technicians Acme locksmith on Main and Lindsay in Mesa, came up with a solution for less than half of the aforementioned price, with no spliced wires or reprogramming. We now have a manual tailgate lock that is keyed to the rest of the vehicle and maintains the alarm arming feature. It it very sturdy and will never break. It looks and unlocks the tailgate and lift window as before, as well as work with door ajar indicator. It also looks like it came with vehicle. Go to Harmon’s to get your car key cut! They did replace my key fob but do not have the machine to cut newer car keys. They did try, after 4 attempts they wanted to send me to Phoenix to get my key cut. I asked for a local referral and Harmon’s in Mesa was mentioned. 5 min drive. I called several self-advertised "locksmiths" before calling Acme. Most businesses that advertise as a locksmith simply do lockouts for cars. I came to Acme because I needed the real deal. I have a truck box that I needed keys to be able to secure my tools, but I did not have a key to duplicate. My particular box has a more complex locking mechanism and further complicated the task. I brought my truck box to Acme and they HAND-FILED me 2 perfectly working keys! I was impressed, and that does not happen often. Not only were they extremely expert in there field, they also were very focused on customer service. My keys were both done within 30 minutes. While I waited I went and got Yoko Fast Food and watched their infomercials in the store and actually learned a lot. I will be telling everyone I know about Acme and will be calling them for all of my future needs. 9/9/2016 Just had them make a copy of a truck key that wasn't working on the passenger door. The copy works on ALL doors plus ignition!!! So I promptly made a copy of the copy and threw out the original. Thank you locksmith gurus!!!

Acme is the best safe cracker in the valley! My Big Horn gun safe I bought from Costco died 6 months after I bought it (evidently a bad motherboard). I called another locksmith, they quoted me $350 over the phone to open it, and said they would have to use a 9” cutting blade and the safe would be destroyed. When they came out they said it was different from what they thought, and it would be $650, and the safe destroyed. Mike came out, drilled the designated spot from the manufacturer, opened it, repaired the hole, and converted the safe to an old school combination lock for $525. I saved $125, AND got my safe back, better than it was before. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks Mike and Acme!
