While banking with UTFCU for a little over a year, I was extremely displeased with the service I received. I recently moved to Knoxville and chose this credit union, because there’s this assumption you’ll get friendly, personable service while banking with one. Unfortunately, every time I visited UTFCU, the front desk staff at every branch was extremely impolite. I was accused of forging a check from my father, simply because he forgot to write the date on it. I understand not taking the check, but being treated like I was a scammer was uncalled for.
Ultimately, what really broke the straw, was recent fraud I endured. Last week, over $3000 was taken from my account fraudulently by someone in California via an ATM. The fraudulent withdrawals took place on Wednesday and Thursday, but did not post in my account until Saturday. UTFCU did not catch the fraud - I was the one who caught it on a Saturday. When trying to get ahold of someone, I could only talk to the card department who cancelled my card, but had to wait until Monday to discuss the fraudulent charges. How does $3000 slip by without being tipped off by the credit union for fraud? When I asked about this on Monday, I was told UTFCU was “usually” pretty good about catching these sort of things and it could be because it was close to a weekend... Well, “usually” really doesn’t quite cut it.
I did not feel like my money was safe in UTFCU, and very rarely was I treated with respect when I visited any branch. When telling others my story, many fellow Knoxville citizens have shared they had similar experiences with UTFCU. I would not bank with them if I lived in Knoxville.
