If you need someone who will have your best interest in mind, call Ben Nelson and Racee Harrington! Things can get messy when you are moving out of state and you depend on long distance-only communication (three different time zones) but these two made everything seem so easy! We didn’t need to ask for anything since they were always two steps ahead of us! Their professionalism is above everything we have ever experienced before but they were also human enough to explain each process to us. We highly recommend this team for any home financing needs!

I have waited over a year to do this review. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't emotional. My wife and I used Academy mortgage for our home loan. We were in a difficult situation due to me being in the military and stationed on the east coast. A lot of information had to be faxed or emailed. We had a horrible experience with Academy Mortgage. Our agent was absolutely worst at responding to us. She almost never responded to her voice mail and even email. It was my first home loan and it was not "smooth" at all. We did get the loan, but I would never use them again! They sold our loan before we ever made the first payment! I WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!

This is a great company from what I’ve heard and I’m sure not all experiences are like mine. But I went to academy mortgage in March 2018 in hopes of a usda loan. My questions weren’t answered and I didn’t get clear expectations around what was required for the loan. I got a text saying sorry can’t approve you. No call. No other options. Nothing to help me further. So I looked at a different lender (landmark professional mortgage) and got my question answered and my husband and I went with a FHA loan and we just closed on our home yesterday July 2018. I only worked with one person so I don’t want anyone judging th company off my experience but make sure you are getting your questions answered and that they are professional.

We were first time homebuyers and had NO idea what we were doing, or needed or ANYTHING! We went in and had one meeting with Judy and she laid it all out in simple form so we understood the process of how everything was going to work. Not even a week later, we were pre-approved and sat down for 20 minutes with our realtor (Judy's husband) and ended up finding a home, looking at it and putting in an offer all in less than five hours!! Rates were at record lows when we went to purchase, 3.25 etc. Manager says he will watch the market to get the best rate and lock us in when he sees it. Went again to start the signing process and saw we were locked in at 4%. He was recommended from our Agent so no surprise customer was not put first. All the 5 stars were made around the same time. Really makes me wonder after the experience I had. Didn't even keep the loan, they say they hold onto 90% of the loans but of course they sold ours within a month.

After we closed on our home loan, the loan was sold in the first month, which was expected. But, I after made the first payment to the new company, Academy Mortgage sent me a letter stating I had missed my first payment on my loan and I now had been charged a late fee. I called and stated the issue, and they said it was most likely a mistake on their end. After 2 days, they called back and confirmed it was their mistake, and not to worry about it. I said fine, but asked they make sure they didn't report me to the credit bureau. They said that could not be done so soon. Sure enough, a few weeks later, I got a message from my credit monitoring service saying I had been reported for a late payment on my mortgage by Academy mortgage. I called Academy, and they said they can get it reversed. It took some time, but eventually it was fixed. Although i'm not sure yet if it has affected my credit yet. I have tried to call management to to get some form of reimbursement for my trouble with this issue and still have had not got so much as call regarding this issue, which I find to be gross negligence on their part. This issue caused me a great deal of stress as a 1st time home buyer, and lost work time dealing with the credit bureaus. They really don't seem to care about what they have done.

One of their mortgage originators gave out confidential information to an agent who was not their client. Then the originator proceeded to vehemently deny they shared the information. Later, the recipient of the confidential information gloated about their newfound knowledge and how they obtained the information. I will never send a client to this company. Risky Business.
