I had been working with another lending/financing company in the local market (you know, the one you hear all over the radio). I was not happy with my experience at all. They were constantly losing information, asking for duplicate information and handing me off to yet another person. On the recommendation of a builder we contacted Sara with Academy Mortgage (we didn't end up building new but bought an existing home). She started the process with a very thorough phone conversation where I felt she really wanted to understand our situation and "the why" of everything on our credit history. After that came the typical information requests. I was expecting it to be a horrible experience, based on the prior firm, but it wasn't. She was followed up appropriately and called whenever something wasn't clear or needed more backup. She was able to put together enough information about us for the underwriters that there weren't really any additional requests for information or justification. I really felt like she was there as a partner to help us get into a home. And it worked! We closed and everything went through. Super happy with the service and the outcome.

I've worked with a great many lenders over the years (for new home purchase as well as refinance), and Sara Meyers was spectacular getting us though the loan process. Sara did a wonderful job, working well above and beyond all expectations. My wife and I had some quirky circumstances that required special attention, and Sara guided us through the process wonderfully (even supporting us with answers to questions after hours - weekends and evenings). Moreover, my wife (whose first language is not English) spoke very positively of her conversations with Sara. Our loan closed perfectly on time. The rate, although not as good as before the presidential election, was eventually better than initially expected. It's all a matter of timing. In any case, Sara is without a doubt the best.

I can't say enough good things about Academy and Shelly, I was always given upfront answers, the comfort of knowing someone was looking out for my interests, and knowing I could rely on Academy to hit deadlines that were imperative to me being able to get under contract on a house before my vacation. I was nervous to refi, I don't know much about finance stuff. The staff at Academy Mortgage reached out to me every step of the way and answered all questions direct- no run around and I never felt like I was bothering them. They really know how to get your refi or purchase done. Everything is in house I believe and They've been around forever so they have great relationships and know how to address an individuals situation. Everything costed less than I expected. They gave me different options to get different rates too, and I got a good rate. Highly recommend- thanks!

He also had helpful little videos explaining parts of the loan process. HE was responsive when I reached out to him, usually responding within a couple hours. We have used Damon Johnston of Academy Mortgage in Lakewood five times now on three different properties and two refi's. Originally a referral from a friend, I have compared rates and prices against Damon's offers four of those times and he has been very competitive each time. I didn't price check this latest refi but in comparing the HUD against my last refi on the same property, the overall cost went down for a higher refinance amount. Better than the competitive rates is the overall experience working with Damon. He is extremely professional and has a great manner for explaining the options and details of the mortgage. I consider him an extremely valuable resource and will continue to use him and his team (who have all been a pleasure to work with as well). I highly recommend them!
