I go to UW but rarely visit odegaard, normally go somewhere quieter. Since I was already in the building for a meeting I decided to go to the top floor to get some un-interrupted studying in. entering in the study area it immediately smelled like old carpet. 5 minutes into sitting down i started having a coughing fit. Decided to tough it out to study but it just got worse. Left 10 minutes later and am currently sitting in red square hacking my lungs out. Pretty sure there was mold in the air since I have a sensitivity to that. So much for uninterrupted studying. Didn't they recently renovate the building too?! They need to fix the ventilation and that horrible moldy smell!

Many hours have been spent here studying and working in groups. Usually a little louder so if you need something quieter then go to Suzzallo.

The library is an awesome place to study however there is no internet if you aren't part of UW

Cem Millik

Terrible. Too crowded, too loud, there's no enforcement of any kind of library-appropriate conduct; computers are often occupied by those playing video games, those watching nonacademic videos, aloud, through speakers. People laugh, yell, etc. Stopped coming here freshman year, 4 years ago. I do however like that it sequesters people who are apparently unfit to be in a library environment, as well as staff unfit to mediate a library environment, so that I can go somewhere else and it'll be quiet there...

A great place to study whether you're a student or a member of the public. On the third floor there's a quiet study area that's useful when the first floor is crowded with talkative people.

It’s a good undergrad library to study since it’s 24/7, especially the first and third floors, but the second floor can be very noisy and oversaturated with Chineese international students who speak Mandarin out loud and play League of Legends in the study computers like a cafe shop. The undergrad tutoring writing center is useless if you’re looking for a quick feedback on your assignment. They spend an entire hour brainstorming and trying to understand what you’re trying to say in a sentence, then “TIME is UP”

A good place to study. It's hard to find tables during the popular times and could spend a good 10-15 minutes finding a spot to sit down (especially with friends). The third floor has much more room and is known as the quiet room.

Ananya Garg

Heeyoon

A bit noisy but I got my stuff done

Aman Mishra

It's a library... But with a lot of students and computers... And is a good place to study.

Most importantly, there's not enough ventilation. Floorplan problem: one has to walk around a ways to reach the stairs or exit, which is only from one corner on the lower of top three floors. Other stairs and exits are emergency only

MANY hours have been spent here in research and creation over the years. The only thing better than their fat pipe Internet and hardware/software products are the exceptionally helpful friendly courteous kind Staff.

Cozy yet stylish place with great choice of DVDs and books

Great place to study, only complaint is how crowded it gets. Any other places to study late night?

Shikhar Varshney

As a UW student, this library is quintessential for my pending homework and assignments as it is the only one open 24 hours, 5 days a week. Even on the weekend it is open the longest. You can reserve study rooms, have 100s of iMacs and around 30-40 windows PCs as well if you don't bring your laptops. You have seating from couches to stiff wooden chairs. There is a quiet study area at the top floor if you want silence, as the library is kind of noisy in other areas. At the help desk you can get markers and adapters and help! Even for public use before closing time, library is pretty good I believe, but as a UW student you would find yourself here a lot.

batool altaher

My favorite library for studying.

Nice place to study

No printer? Seriously? After all we pay in tuition, we should not have to pay to print something. I went to the writing center in Odegaard and had the WORST experience. Ananya was not great to work with. All she did was ask me questions like "how do you feel about your paper?" and "what do you think you need to do to have a better essay?" She provided no input on my paper. It felt more like I came into a therapy session with my paper. I honestly feel like there was no point in me coming here today. Staff needs major improvement.

One of the many libraries on campus! Study hub for most of the freshman on campus

Yes, open 24 hours. But no, not very nice to work in. Yes, they have a ton of resources. But I just don't like studying here. It smells, is always packed, and just not comfortable.

Casey Penk

Odegaard has always looked ugly from the outside. It's a pretty awful brown brick contraption. The new Odegaard (which is the only Odegaard I've ever known) looks much better from the inside, though. Its wide-open floor plan and tons of natural light deserve credit. This is a model for how libraries should work in the modern age - giving people lots of room to study, plenty of computers, and a selection of the most popular books and movies. I appreciate how they highlight books - they put them on a table by the reservation desk so you run into them on your way in or out, or when you go to the bathroom. This makes it easy to organically run into something interesting, at least sparking your curiosity. The place does get pretty noisy; groups come here to "study." People also mess around frequently; it seems like people are only working half the time. Computer slots are also limited. Despite the gaming ban plenty of people still play online games like League of Legends and DoTA. This is totally inappropriate for a taxpayer-funded resource, and I wish they'd take a more aggressive stance on kicking these people out. If they don't need to study they should go home and not be allowed back in. I'm giving Odegaard a relatively high score in large part because of the nostalgic memories I have of studying here. I remember pulling my only all-nighter at the University of Washington here to finish a document. You can stay here all day and no one will lecture you. It's a good place to zone out, or focus, or wander, or see your friends. Odegaard is everything you make it.

I used to go here pretty much every single day. It gets a bit loud and crowded but it’s okay. I loved that the computers had access to the entire Adobe creative suite and Final Cut Pro for UW students and faculty - emphasis on the HAD. Now there’s only Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, and another one I can’t remember. It was annoying bc the computers that had those programs were either in rooms where they hold classes or on the second floor- where people like to play games. Please, if you’re going to use a computer with two screens, take advantage of the programs instead of just typing your essay on Google Docs. If you’re going to do that, go to the many rows of computers. The sound rooms are great and they offer equipment that you can borrow for your time in the sound rooms. The bathrooms feel somewhat gross and there’s almost always a line for them.

Kinda loud, but I pretty much live here so... #UndergradEnigeneer
