It has gotten worse here. I used to bring my children to read books, explore the internet and meet other children. Now we are afraid of the growing number of homeless and mentally ill people in the library. NO, I'm not against homeless or mentally ill, but yesterday, my 7 year old was cornered in the childrens book section by a man who was very mentally ill. He wanted to touch her hair. Good thing i was right there and I pushed him away from her and reported him. Reporting him did no good, lady just shrugged and walked away. Last month, a man who also appeared mentally ill was cussing at this computer with me and my child right next to him. And as we were leaving, we almost got bit by a pitbull that was tied up to a shopping cart full of stuff. No more library for us.

I haven’t gotten a chance to browse the books, however, the customer service at the help desk was great at my visit- Jon and Woody both answered my questions in a timely manner and they were helpful and very pleasant.

I noticed that a lot of the things that i want to study turn out in the children department im guessing because of the school related events such as book reports and or essays I find that kind of strange.

Parking is almost $1 each hour around the library and downtown. You better park a distance away or hope its worth the money, which apparently many people do since the computers are well populated and many of the seats and desks full up quite quickly during opening hours.

For it's size, a very impressive library. Although the adult section occupies just a single floor (there is a separate location for children on the lower floor of the building), it has an very good selection of books - complemented by it's membership in the Whatcom Co Library system (which includes the many smaller libraries and the various colleges libraries in the county). It provides access to many online services and databases for research. One deficit is the in library computers set up for research are not configured properly, there are only two and they tend to "freese up" alot, forcing the user to shut down the research window and start from scratch. It has a nice section for music and DVD's. And a very modest collection of genealogy material in a very small area in a remote section of the adult floor.

So many books have disappeared in the wave of moving toward 'ebooks' instead and then the ebook selection leaves you wanting. Of actual physical items you can check out - don't trust the system to notify you of your holds. I've gotten fined for items not getting picked up that I was never notified about coming in. The two stars is earned only for the politeness of their security staff.

Good library. Their funding keeps getting cut, but they still do a good job. I agree with the review that mentioned parking, but hardly the library's fault.

One of our favorite libraries to go to! Always clean. Always friendly. Always helpful. Always a pleasure to come in and read to the kids. We are regulars and your services are so appreciated by our family. Thank you friends at the Central library and all the free classes offered to children. There are new monthly calendar sheets you can pick up at the children's section part of the library. All the events are on that sheet and information about the classes on the backside. Thank you once again!

I've been to libraries all around the US, and this is probably the worst so far. A generally outdated facility full of homeless people. Felt like an ER waiting room, full of people mumbling to themselves. Tear this down, relocate and rebuild.

I work in student services for an online public high school, I called Bellingham Public Library looking for some local resource for a student. I spoke with a few people on the phone, they took my number and within an hour called me back with a whole list of resources. I am blown away with with their helpfulness and promptness. I♡ my library! I probably spend the equivalent of at least an hour every week there. I reserve stuff online and pick it up when it's ready or I drop stuff off and browse the CD'S and DVD's they have available. I take paperwork to complete for mailing at the post office ,that's only one block away. I USE my library , and I still have the original card that I got in 1987,when I first moved to Bellingham!

Great local Resource. I do wish they were open on Sundays though. Seems like a good relaxed day to browse books that you might need for the week. With that said, they are open 6 days a week! Thanks for always being there! Easy to ride your bike there and lock it up!
